BPM Vs Alert

If I want to use ALERT, should I need to have a BPM in my Scenario?
For example I am doing a File to File scenario, after successful execution of this process, I want to Trigger an Alert, whether it is possible? If so, how to do this?
Thanks.

Hi
You can trigger an alert without BPM.
In File to File scenario also you can trigger it from alert inbox.

  • BPM: Confirming alerts doesn't refresh alert status

    Hi Colleagues,
Have anyone dealt with refreshing problems in Solman's BPM?
If I have a red alert and process it, I proceed to confirm the alert.
In this node, status is changed to green (some cases into grey).
If I get back to the first screen in the BPM, process is still in red leading to confusion to our local monitoring team. It doesn´t matter that no other alerts are current unconfirmed.
You can refresh as many times you want, system remains in red.
I have a message in support but response process is really slow.
They just recomended to apply latest version of note 0001255970 but no effects were observed.
We are in ST 400 SP 17.
    Thanks,
    Renato Petrulis

Just as feedback from SAP Support, it´s not an error:
(...) Let me explain the difference between Current Status and Open Alerts a
    little more:
Every MTE (MTE: Monitoring Tree Element. It is the actual measurement that you are interested in. For example, BDocs con ErrorBDocs con Error defined in component BDocs con Error is an MTE) has configurable thresholds. The thresholds define the values which, when exceeded, create an alert instance. Both yellow and red thresholds can be defined. The alert instance records the time at which the threshold was exceeded, and also have a corresponding status i.e. if the red threshold is
exceeded, a red alert instance is created. When you hit the 'Confirm' button, you are actually clearing the alert instances.
Whereas, in the Current Status view, you actually see the current value of the MTE, which can be red or yellow or green irrespective of what hadhappened in the past.
Therefore, the expected behaviour is that when all the alerts are confirmed, the MTE shows green in the Open Alerts view. But the Current Status view continues to show the actual current status, which may be red or yellow or green. Therefore the DSWP transaction is actually working as expected.

  • BPM and alert message

    Hi, all
    - in transaction ALRTCATDEF, i have specified dynamic text for my alert category
    - in my BPM there is control steps
    - In the bpm, i have created a variable ERR of <b>string</b> type in a container
    - in the container operation i have assigned my variable ERR with ST./p1:MT_STRING
      ST is contained:
         <MT_STRING>
          text
         <MT_STRING >
          (for example)
    - in the control step, i have specified my alert category
    - the alert message i have specified with this text: error &ERR&
But i have recived mail with only 'error'. The content of my variable ERR did not display.
When i use the variable of <b>integer</b> type, this prooblem does not appear.

  • BPM: Confirming Alerts - pro's and con's.

    Hi all,
In Business Process Monitoring in the alerts view, you have the option to confirm alerts - primiarly I assume to remove the yellow or red alert status from the summary screen of alerts, so that operators can see at a glance which monitors have a status other than green. Other than that - what are the benefits and drawbacks (if any) of confirming /not confirming alerts?
Would there be any concerns with system performance / table overflow by keeping many unconfirmed alerts in the list?
From a BI trend analysis point of view, will both confirmed and unconfirmed alerts be transferred to the BI cube for trend reporting?
For example, we could configure BPM to send a notification when there are 20 yellow alerts of a certain type. Only on notification (email) will a user go into BPM to view the alert in more detail. So, the number of alerts in BPM could add up very quickly and only get confirmed every so often.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi,
    1) Your understading is correct to some extend, the confirmation of alert is to know the status of any new alerts at an istance. so it forms easier for us to locate. Confirming should be done, if the alert is really looked upon and solved, so easy to track. If you keep it unconfirmed, you ll always get the old alerts in queue leading to the overall rating to be misleading sometimes.
    2) You have to plan/so sizing on your solution manager accordingly to negate any system performance issues.its impact will be very less.
    3) yes.You wil get all the alert. You can see all the confirmed alerts too.(there is an option available).
    4) This shouldn't be an issue:). The alerts remain the same in the BI. Sizing matters.
    Thanks,
    Jagan

  • Elements from BPM in alert container. Possible?

    Hi!
Is it possible to define container elements in TCODE ALRTCATDEF and fill them with values from a BPM? I have read about this and it seems to be possible when coding an abap application, but can it be done from the BPM at runtime?
    Thanks!
    regards Pavel

    Hi Pavel,
If you are using the fault message's to get the errror details.
It is possible to trigger the alert ...with all the information which inturn is coming in the fault message.
Do an RFC call in the fault message mapping to RFC  - SALERT_CREATE.
If not then the easy option
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/13/alerts-with-variables-from-the-messages-payload-xi--updated
    Which doesn't suites your requirement...

  • Alerts in Integration Process (BPM)?

We are just beginning to use Alerts in PI 7.1.  If an error occurs in an integration process (BPM), will it trigger an alert if the Alert Rule is defined wide open?  Or do you actually have to trigger the alert in the integration process with an additionl step to trigger the alert?

The Alert has to be defined in ALRTCATDEF.....no matter where the alert comes from (IE, AE, BPE)
If an error occurs in BPM and you have not mainatined proper exception handling for it then....and if the processing shows in red in SXMB_MONI then the alert will be raised as IE alert
However if you have implemented exception handling for a step and then in that exception branch you raise an alert then your BPM will raise alert....the subject of your alert email will be Process <ProcessID>
BPM related alert can be either with static text (using Alert Container Variables) or Dynamic text (using some value from payload)
Please note that to raise an alert from BPM it is not compulsory to only raise it as a Dynamic Alert......static alert can also be raised.
The documents which are available for lower releases are still applicable in alert creation.....so existing blogs/ docs should work

    Abhishek.

  • Problem in BPM Alert configuration

    hi all,
i have configured BPM with alerts putting Control step. i not am able to get the container variables reflected in my alert.
can any one tell me what is the procedure to capture the errors(container variables like MESSAGE_GUID....) in BPM
    Thanks,

Edited by: Smitha Madhavan on Sep 4, 2008 9:14 AM

    hi,
please make sure that u have defined the container element in ur BPM. please fill your veriable with your definde veriable in container step.
you can fill these veriable with 2 type of data\
    1) fill with payload which is comming ,
    2) fill with the system defined veriable
if you want to fill with system defined veriable you need to write a small UDF
    java.util.Map map;
    map = container.getTransformationParameters( );
    String constant1;
    Constant1 = (String) map.get(StreamTransformationConstants.INTERFACE_NAMESPACE);
now return this out put to some veriable .which can be assigned to container veriable.
you can use following system defined veriable.
    MESSAGE_CLASS,VERSION_MAJOR,VERSION_MINOR,PROCESSING_MODE,MESSAGE_ID,TIME_SENT,INTERFACE,INTERFACE_NAMESPACE,SENDER_PARTY,SENDER_SERVICE,RECEIVER_NAME,RECEIVER_NAMESPACE,RECEIVER_PARTY,RECEIVER_SERVICE,MAPPING_TRACE

  • Message in Alert from BPM

    Hello
I have control step that sends Alert. The messasage contains BPM containers as &varilable&.
Alert catergory has been defined in ALRTCATDEF with Workflow type but I don't see a message from BPM in Alert Inbox.
What do I need to add into my alert category in order the message is to be displayed in Alert Inbox?

    Hi,
I have the same problem as Denis. I created an alert category with dynamic text. As alert classification I have set WEBFLOW (this type wasn't part of the standard  classifications, so i created it). In my BPM I trigger the alert within a control step. The alert is thrown, I can see it in the alert inbox, but without description an without long text. As short text I see the name of the category and the string  "(Die auslösende Anwendung hat Sie als Empfänger bestimmt)".
Can anybody help to fix my problem?
@Denis: Have you solved your problem? How?

    Hi,
From your answer, can I confirm that alerts I defined in ALERTCATDEF can be used by for Non-BPM interfaces?
The essential difference between BPM and Non-BPM alert triggering is BPM allows a control step to trigger an alert.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Thanks.

  • BPM CACHE REFRESH -

    Hi Guys:
I would like to capture the Customer Credit Memo to create alert message with it when there is already exists in R/3. I am using BPM, in the BPM i created container element P_SETTNO to capture the customer credit memo number from XPATH expression. When I am testing it cannot get the value for the container element. Then I thought it's better to refresh CACHE so that it can get the latest version. While refreshing CACHE(sxi_cache) it's giving below error.
" The Value of Expression &INF_SPLITBYLINE.P_SETTNO& Cannot Serve As the Source of an Assignment ".
    We are on SP19...
    Any clues/sugesstion please.
    Thanks,
    Venkat.

    Nilesh:
No luck so far. The sequence of steps I did after delete and re import BPM.
    1) Assigning expression value to container variable p_settlement, it's is some how
doesn't like the expression, it's giving same error as it was giving about
         expression.
      2) Then I removed expression and assigned constant value to p_settlement.
This time no error when activating BPM, but alert message is empty. I am
concatenating text like below in the alert message.
         <b>text &p_settlement& text</b>
      3) Then I even removed container variable and provided static alert message text.
Alert message is displaying in the Alert Inbox.
    What I am suspecting is
    1) it's not accepting expression value when assigning to container variable p_settlement.
    2) When I concatenate text with dynamic value (&p_settlement&) for alert message, it's not understanding to combine static and dynamic data.
I am trying to achieve here is if the settlement is already exists in the custom table, it should send alert to the intended receipients so that they can take action on it.
I hope you can understand the problem.

  • Customized Autoreaction messages in BPM -Emailing Detailed Display contents

    Hi,
Please let me know if it is feasible for emailing the contents of the detailed display in BPM via alert mail that gets triggered .
I know that there are BADI's available for enhancing the auto reaction messages. But these BADI's doesnt have the details regarding the contents of the detailed display.
Eg.I have alerts for incomplete sales documents in my BPM.
In BPM session,I will be able to view those documents only by clicking the detailed display for each alert. I wanted to know if this content(List of all sales documents) can be emailed as an attachment along with the email notification sent to the users. This way the users need not log into solution manager at all for viewing the documents. They can just view the list of incomplete sales documents in the email if it is possible to send them in an excel .
    Thanks,
    Bhuvana

    Hi,
it is technically possible to create such a solution, but so far we are only providing such a solution as part of SAP MaxAttention or SAP Safeguarding engagements where we work closely together with a customer. Anyhow attaching document information to an email is not really satisfying as the number of documents might be very large and also as it bears some security risk if the email gets outside the company or otherwise into false hands. For this reason we are evaluating if a solution can be provided in the future that allows a direct link from the email to the document list in the backend system. But I cannot say anything about a possible availability for such a solution.
    Best Regards
    Volker

  • Emulate Fault message in BPM

    Hello
I have read all related topics
    fault message in BPM process
Alert monitoring and fault message types
Using Fault Message Type in BPM
    but no answer..
I have synch BPM that send synch request to RFC and a mapping step. Then I have to catch exception (of send step or mapping) and send fault message in exception handler.
I haven't a proxy. I want to create fault message manually and send it. Is it possible? I cannot create an interface of fault message type.

    Hi Sergey,
As far as I know, it's possible to catch the mapping/send exception.
It's also easy to define an exception branch for this exception, and inside the exception branch, send a "normal" message in a send step.
However, as far as I know there's no way of specifying a BPM send step that sends a fault message.
At least in my experience, regular messages are just as useful when sending error information.
    Cheers,
    Ofer
