BPM with iTunes 5.0?

Is there a way to detect the BPM for a specific song? Would be very helpful in order to create a compilation with songs with similar BPMs.
Any ideas? Thanks for a hint...

The only problem with this is that "beats per minutes" depends on what beat you're talking about. If you want to group things with similar tempos, you could create comments like "fast" "slow" "walking tempo" "really fast", etc. With a BPM analyzer, you may not get an accurate representation of the tempo, especially if you have music with irregular meter, or very ethereal stuff, or anything that lacks drums or percussive instruments. For example, running a bpm analyzer on the first movement of Shostokovich's 6th symphony would probably not yield accurate results.
In short, if you're willing to go to the trouble of manually entering the BPM's anyway, you might as well just make your own custom tempo distincitions.

  • How to Share BPM Data with iTunes Match?

To ensure my Songs have current lyrics and reasonably accurate 'beats per minute (BPM)' data I've regularly used 3rd party tools.  Using one of the computers with my complete library this data is updated typically on adding new Songs / Albums.  Have noted recently that the lyrics, BPM and so on immediately updates on the library concerned.  However, these updates do not appear to be replicated with iTunes Match?
Whilst the Songs are immediately listed for download on all other libraries, the additional data is not being shared.  How can iTunes Match be tempted to share such data?
[I do have an inelegant method under a post for Metadata from early '12 but hoping that a neater solution has now been identified?]

After careful assessment it appears that there are no improved methods for reliable sharing of Song data with iTunes Match beyond the basic method identified in this thread.
Investigation by beaTunes reached the following conclusion:
Even if beaTunes updated those privileged fields - I don't think that guarantees that all other fields are also synced.
Sounds to me like iTunes Match is fundamentally flawed :-("
It would be very helpful if Apple would allow users of iTunes Match and 3rd party developers to signal when Song data has been updates such that iTunes Match can ensure Songs across the (up to) 10 devices are synchronised.
Until such time, only adding Songs with iTunes Match off, updating Song data as needed prior to switching iTunes Match on seems the pragmatic route forward.  For Songs otherwise imported they need to be removed and re-added in this style to yield consistent Song data.

    Where are you located?
Just go and buy an iTunes gift card at any store in your country.
Then follow all the steps you did, but when it asks you for the credit card number, there shoujld be a GIFT CARD option which will let you load your account witht eh funds form the gift card without providing a credit/debit card #.

  • Is anybody else having problems with itunes (10.6.3.25) and ipod touch (5.1.1)?

Lately I've been having a ton of problems with iTunes and my iPod Touch (4th generation). Lots of error messages such as can't connect to itunes store, incompatible application, ipod detected but not identifiable, invalid response received from device, unknown errors [mostly (0xE8000001)], problem with audio configuration, etc. I've done everything I could think of. Uninstalling iTunes (with all the components) then reinstalling with the newest version (10.6.3.25), running diagnostics and such. If it does appear (about 2% of the time) then iTunes freezes and/or it won't sync. I also try to change some info (song title, artist, artwork, etc)(when it DOES come up) and it shows up on itunes but not on my ipod. My ipod appears on my computer but not in iTunes under devices like its supposed to. I've been to all the support threads I can possibly find and NOTHING has helped. I also had the latest version for the ipod touch (5.1.1). And I've never had any issues with iTunes or my iPod touch before. I know I should probably try restoring my ipod but I absolutely do not want to do that unless I have to because i have a lot of music, apps, movies, etc I'm not able to back up. Also, I'm using a Windows 7 computer. Please Please help if you can, I am frustrated because I can't do anything.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem
    Then try restoring again.

  • How can I sync my iPod Classic with iTunes 11.1.4 and Windows 7 64-bit?

After assistance from ‘b Noir’ (and losing--then finally regaining--my DVD/CD reader in the process), I finally installed the iTunes Version 11.1.4 update on my Windows 7 64-bit PC.  So I am again able to import music from CDs, play music on my PC with iTunes, and burn CDs as I could do with previous iTunes versions.  Then, however, I purchased some new music and tried to sync iTunes with my iPod Classic for the first time since the update to 11.1.4.  So far, I have been spectacularly unsuccessful.  Can anyone help me?
With previous iTunes versions, sync was automatic when I connected iPod to a USB port.  Now when I connect iPod Classic to PC's USB port (I've tried two different ports), iPod’s screen says “Connecting” but iTunes doesn’t open.  And while iPod is connected to the USB port, I can't open iTunes by right-clicking its icon and selecting “Open.”   (ITunes, however, always opens OK if iPod is NOT connected).  With the iPod connected to a PC's USB port, I opened Windows 7 “Devices and Printers.”  Devices shown included both (a) the “Apple iPod USB Device” and (b) “Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.”  I right-clicked each of these device icons in turn and selected “troubleshoot.”  Both times, the report was “Troubleshooting couldn’t identify the problem.”
I am also unable to properly “eject” the iPod.  I tried ejecting (a) from the Windows taskbar's Notification Area, (b) from Windows “Devices and Printers” and (c) by right clicking the iTunes icon and selecting “Eject.”  Nothing worked, so I reluctantly pulled the cable out of the iPod without ejecting.  That causes a yellow triangle with an exclamation point to appear in “Devices and Printers” for my PC—which disappears after shutting down and rebooting the PC.
If I start iTunes and THEN connect the iPod Classic to the USB port, iTunes does nothing and almost instantly freezes (shows as “not responding” in Windows Task Manager and I have to close it via Task Manager).
Suggestions, please, on what I need to do?  My iPod Classic continues to work just fine, but I can't put any of my newly purchased music on it and I guess it will become an expensive paperweight if the battery happens to run down.  If nothing else, is there an old version of iTunes I can download somewhere that likely will work with the iPod Classic and my PC setup? Thanks so much!

    Hi turingtest2,
Thanks so much for your response--yes, I've seen the TS1363 document.
I was able to open iTunes, start the iPod Diagnostic Device Connectivity Test, and connect the iPod when prompted to do so.  The only problem reported by the diagnostic program was "No iPod, iPhone or iPad found." So it does seem as if the TS1363 document should apply.  But I have tried connecting the iPod after executing each of Steps 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9 shown there and nothing has worked so far.  Details follow:
--Went through the iPod Classic troubleshooting assistant--except I did not "reset" the iPod (because having all my "old" music available on the iPod has value to me).
    --Restarted iPod Service.
    --Restarted Apple Mobile Device Service.
--Verified that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.  There is no down arrow or question mark or other indication of problem with it.
--Tried two different USB ports (I assume that is what is meant by "change your iPod's drive letter"?).
    --Temporarily disabled Norton Antivirus.
For some reason, there are 368 files and 60 folders in the Temp folder under my user name, and it looks like at least some are "read-only."  Windows wouldn't let me delete or move the folder, even after I turned off Norton AntiVirus and closed the programs in the "Notification Area" that I could figure out how to close.
I'm very reluctant to get into messing with Config files or registry keys.  And I have already tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes 11.4.1 so many times.  I'm not sure what to do but am considering uninstalling all of the Apple products (again) and try installing an older version of iTunes.  Or maybe I should try to install iTunes 11.4.1 on our Windows 8 laptop and see if the iPod will connect to that (although I really need to be able to sync to my desktop PC).  Probably won't have time to do either for a few days--too many other things to do.  But please let me know if there's something more that's relatively simple and low-risk I could try.  Thanks again!

  • Ipod Touch 4g will no longer sync with iTunes - help!!!

I have an iPod Touch 4 and am using the latest version of iTunes 11.0.2.26 but can no longer get my ipod to sync with itunes.  When I click on Sync I get the message 'waiting for changes to be applied' then 'finished' but it does not sync.  I have completely restored my ipod and have uninstalled iTunes, Apple Update, Quicktime, Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support before reinstalling iTunes.  All my music in iTunes is from my own library rather than purchased from iTunes.  It all used to work fine and I feel I've exhausted all my knowledge in fixing this and need some assistance.  Can anyone help?

Seems like you've tried the most important steps in troubleshooting, so that's good.
What I'm wondering is: when you deinstalled iTunes and all those other things, did you do it in a specific order, according to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 for windows Vista/windows 7 or http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925  for windows XP  ? I don't see Apple Application Support in the list of components you deleted. I would recommend removing everything again in the specific order using the article you need and trying again to sync.
Also: try creating another user account on your computer and syncing again, because sometimes software issues are user-wide.
hope this helps, keep me posted

  • My Ipod Classic (160G) no longer synchs completely with iTunes (93G).  Have reset and restored to no avail.  AM about to try roll back to a previous version of iTunes, which has been on auto update.

My iPod Classic (160G) used to sync flawlessly with iTunes (93G).
Recently, there seem to be fewer folders syncing.  In particular, it is not syncing more recent adds.  It also occassionally refuses to sync at least one mp3 downloaded from  Amazon.com, giving an unable to sync message with an error code or 50.
I'm running iTunes version 10.7, and the software (2.04) on myiPod is current.
I only use the iPod for music.  I have only one playlist.
Reset and restore did not fix the problem; I'm considering rolling back to a previous version of iTunes.  Are there any other  ideas to consider?
    Please advise.

iTunes and its sync process with your iPod have been know to choke once the amount of data that needs to be transferred, replaced, or updated, reaches a certain size limit in GBs.

  • No Disk error when syncing with iTunes

Whenever I sync my iPod Classic with iTunes, I get an error message saying "there is no disk in drive, please insert disk into drive E: (my dvd drive)". The sync succeeds, but I need to dismiss the message a few times. Has anyone seen this and know how to stop it?

  • IPod Classic - ok with Windows, not with iTunes

    Hi,
    I have a Classic 160GO iPod.
    Suddenly this problem appeared :
    - no music or pictures were recognized by my iPod, but the disk space was used for "Other"
    - this iPod is not known with iTunes
    - This iPod is known as a removable hard disk, via Windows 7 (Main computer), Windows XP (secondary computer), a linux thing (a friend computer).
    1. I already checked this iPod with the diagnostics mode (see https://discussions.apple.com/message/19048752#19048752)
    result is :
    - reallocs : 0
    - Pending sectors : 32
My understanding is that my iPod hard disk is ok and valid.
    2. I followed most of the recommended way to repaird the iPod as per Support (8 out of 10)
    NOthing is working.
I confirm I have installed the latest version of iTunes.
    3. I read the following page : https://discussions.apple.com/message/19158071#19158071 to find the relevant firmware.
But the iPod Classic 160GO is not in the list.
    My questions
--> Do you have an idea to solve my problem ?
--> What could happend i I format my iPod with windows ? It would be only a hard disk after, wouldn't it ?
    --> I f I format, is there a solution to re-install the iPod software (= firmware ?)
    Thank you for your help.

The iPod hardisk is  looks new from the Reallocs and ON Hours, but, it is rebooting more to get the correct spin for data verification, causing tImeouts,  so the Pending Sector will increase.
There maybe something, near the iPod environment, that is causing the drive to fail, and overheat, if it has not already been damaged, or maybe it is just one Hardisk, that slipped through poor quality control.
You can bring the Retract, Realloc and pending number low, by doing low level format, see this article, but your problem of Hardisk rebooting to find a good cluster, wont go away
    Just my thoughts.
Magnets are the primary cause of hardisk crashes,  I would also suspect, using your handphone, while it is near the iPod would also be bad, see the YouTube video on hardboiled eggs using handphone.

  • The crux of syncing with iTunes: Data minimization & changing settings

    Hello everybody,
I have a couple of questions regarding the syncing of "stuff" between my Mac and my iPhone.
I used to own an iPod (3rd generation, quite a while ago), and I always had my own system of storing music. The thing is, I have my music on CDs: I understand that, in order to get them on an iPod/iPhone, I need to convert them to a different format. So OK, I rip my music and move it to my device -- but why would I want to keep a copy on my computer? I already have two (CD & iPod), why would I need a third?
It doesn't seem to be exactly what iTunes is about, but I did manage (at the time with my iPod and now with my iPhone) to make it understand that I wanted it so. I rip my CDs, move them to my device, and then delete them from my computer.
Of course, nowadays there's the iTunes Store. Since I don't have a physical media for music bought on it, it's OK for that (and only that) music to be stored on the computer -- it's my second copy in case something happens.
When I got my iPhone, it took me a couple of tries to set iTunes up like I wanted to; during those tries, I erroneously deleted and had to re-transfer my music to the iPhone. The "Sync Music" checkbox is, apparently, extremely powerful.
A couple of months later, I find myself in a similar pickle over the apps. With the apps, I believe it to be even more understandable: Unlike with the music, I can't even use the apps on my computer -- so why would I want them there? Some apps, particularly games, have an enormous (storage) footprint! I could save many a gigabyte by not having an (unnecessary) copy on my computer. I have them on my device, and the Store knows which ones I purchased -- couldn't I simply re-download them should the need ever arise (i.e., unrecoverable hardware failure)?
Like with "CD & device" for music, I'd have "AppStore & device" for apps. Everything's backed up. And my hard disk wouldn't be so stuffed.
My iPhone is my primary device for the apps, since it's the only way for me to use them after all. So I download, update, and occasionally delete apps -- all through my iPhone.
The thing is, when I connect and sync it with iTunes, things go "wrong". Apps previously synced and later deleted (on the phone) remain on my computer. I never needed them there, now I don't even use them anymore -- and still there's a copy occupying space on my computer. Worse, those apps want to be updated. Apps that I don't have thus don't use want to be updated. How silly is that? The term "Sync" for iTunes appears to be a one-way process: from iTunes to the iPhone. (At least for most intents and purposes; contacts and calendars seem to work just fine in both directions.) But why? I buy all my apps and all my music on the iPhone. Once connected, iTunes warns me that there is "bought content" on my phone, which isn't on my computer (and it's not as trivial as it should be to transfer it back); but it doesn't know what has been removed.
As I mentioned earlier, the unchecking of the "Sync Music" checkbox solved (most) of my iTunes troubles regarding music.
But I had no idea I'd have to go to the same trouble for apps. (I believe it has to do with the fact that it seemed so absurd needing/wanting to have a copy of an app on the computer where you can't even use it.)
So now I came to realize I probably (I'm not even sure myself) want to do the same thing with the apps as with my music: uncheck the "Sync Apps" checkbox for my iPhone.
But would I have the opportunity to re-download my apps, as I speculated above, should I ever need to? (In other words: Does the AppStore work as a "backup"?)
And, more to the point: How do I uncheck "Sync Apps" without having my iPhone "wiped"?
Toying around with that checkbox is what caused me to have to re-transfer my music to the phone a couple of times. And in fact iTunes states, when I try to uncheck the "Sync Apps" checkbox: "All existing apps and their data on the iPhone will be removed." I don't want that at all!
What is right now: My computer is an incremental storage pool of what was and is on my iPhone, in order to change that setting, the iPhone needs to be wiped of all and any apps.
What I want: My iPhone is my primary app source, I don't want any app on my computer.
What I could live with: My iPhone is my primary app source, I want my computer to be a mirror image of my iPhone.
Ultimately, I have my own system for music and don't need backed up apps on my computer. I use iTunes merely as a tool to transfer data between computer and phone (primarily), as a phone-settings backup system (secondarily), and to manage my iTunes account (really seldom).
I don't need iTunes for anything else. I have my "music machine" (to which I regularly connect my phone, since it contains a lot of music) somewhere else; surely my laptop with iTunes on it isn't the better option.
Does anybody have an answer for one of my many questions? Do you have any ideas or suggestions for me on how to deal with the (quite intrusive and obnoxious) iTunes? They would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Nicola

Copy the entire iTunes folder out to the drive. If it is too big to go as one copy stuff over to another computer in batches. It is important to have not only the media but the library file in order to properly restore your library.
See also this User Tip. Assuming the machine won't connect to the internet you could download the SyncToy installer on another machine and then transfer it with the thumb drive. If it will connect to the net don't forget to deauthorize the machine before reformatting the hard drive.
