BPS Layout and Varibales on Data slices

Hi Frineds,
I have some doubts in BPS. Please clarrify me with the exact answers.
1) What is the optimum time for excuteing Manual planning layout?
2) Can we create Varaibles on Data slice in both BW BPS 3.5 version and SEM BPS? In which versiona we can create varaibles on data slices? I nwhich version it is not possible to create varaibles on Data slices?
3) One basic question: Does planning package contain keyfigures or it contains only Charactgerstics?
4) what is meaning of Selection Varibles in BPS?  I read one document like we can create Selection Variables in Accound based modeling but it is not possible to create Selection Varaibles in Key figure based modeling/
I gone thorouth the help documentaion and other documents but i didn't get clear idea on above issues.
Please provide me ur suggestions and valuable answers for above questions.
Will assign the points.
Best regards

  • Navigate from WebDynpro Application to BPS Layout and vice versa

    Hi,
    Please see the following Problem Statement:
    We have WebDynpro applications and BPS applications in our project. All the applications are published via SAP Portal. Both areas (WebDynpro and BPS) have same selection screen (Selection fields are common). Is it possible to call
    WebDynpro application from BPS layout (on click of button)and also passing the selection parameters to the WebDynpro application and vice-versa.

  • BPS Layout - Combinations on transaction data issue

    <p>
    I've got a planning level with some characteristics (10) and one key figure (0QUANTITY). All the characteristics are restricted for one value in the level, except one, which is restricted by an exit variable for one or more values (depending from other parameters). Letu2019s call this characteristic 0MATERIAL.
    On this level Iu2019ve got two planning layouts: both have Material on the lead column and quantity on the data column (with all the other chars in the header): layout 1 displays all the possible combinations, while layout 2 displays only combinations from transaction data.
    This way I let the user select the material with layout 1 (writing on the quantity column), and with layout 2 I show him his selection (only the materials with quantity other than 0).
    </p>
    <p>
    Everything is working fine when Material is restricted for more than 1 value:  I can see the material number on layout 2 only if I set a quantity on layout 1.</p>
    <p>When material is restricted for only one value in my level (with my exit variable), both layout 1 & 2 show one record (with the material number and a u20180u2019 quantity); in deed Iu2019m expecting layout 2 (which shows only combinations from transaction data) to be empty.</p>
    <p>
    It seems like the system is adding a dummy record in my layout: it happens even if I delete all the data in my infocube.
    Does anyone know how to fix this and display layout 2 with no records?</p>

    Hello Marc,
    I'm sorry but it's not that easy
    There's no data in my cube (I deleted all the data requests in RSA1), there's no data in my planning buffer.
    If I change the selection in my level, adding another material (with the characteristic restricted for two values), everything works fine:
    -layout 1 shows 2 rows (with quantity = 0);
    -layout 2 shows 0 row (there's no data, layout is blank).
    If in my level I restrict the material for only 1 value, it will result in both layouts showing 1 row, with 0 quantity.
    I tried to reproduce the issue, building a dummy level with some chars and a key figure. Every char is restricted for only one value, except one char (on the lead column in the layout) which is restricted for two or more values: everything works fine.
    But if I restrict the lead char for 1 only value, the layout supposed to show the transactional data shows me a dummy record (it's not blank).

  • Hit PrtSc on new keyboard layout and lost clipboard data?

    The new keyboard layout place the PrtSc button at the bottom row of the keyboard between left Alt anc Ctrl.
    I think some of you might have already tried that, when you try to press the right Ctrl or Alt (for example try to press Ctrl+V... etc) or even just accidentally hit the PrtSc key, and then the text that you copied will be cleared in the clipboard so you need to go back and copy again.
    Even worse: You can't recover if you cut and closed the application, then hit PrtSc and let the clipboard to be overwritten!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    There are two ways to deal with the problem: (1) bypass Windows print sceren functionality or (2) install a clipboard manager.
    To bypass Windows print sceren functionality you can install a program. An opensource example is Lightscreen. You can configure it to directly save the print screen into your document directory instead of overwriting the clipboard. There is an extra benefit, that you don't need to do print screen, then open Paint, then paste, then save the image just to upload or save it.
    An opensource example of clipboard manager is Ditto. It tracks changes in the clipboard and save a history of everything. In case if the PrtSc key overwritten the clipboard, most of the time you will be able to recover.

  • Overwrite functionality with BPS layouts

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement,  when the actuals data has a missing field, I should display the record using BPS layouts and then be able to overwrite the record with a new record that I input from the layout which would have the missing field. Can this be achieved?

  • Display Document in a BPS layout

    I activated documents in my BPS layout and the document attribute for 0COSTCENTER.  Cost Center is in the header area of the layout. I created one document, however, the document icon shows up on every cell in the layout?  Can anyone tell me how fix this?
    Thank you!

    Hi William,
    documents are assigned to a characteristic combinations; since in your case only 0COSTCENTER has the document attribute all cells in the planning layout are assigned to the same document. Thus the document icon is displayed for all cells.
    You can not change this.

  • Master Data Save Through BPS - BI and BPS Related

    Hi,
    I have 2 questions regarding BI and BPS working together.
    1.Does all infoobject used in BPS layout have to be master data enabled to avoid BPS created master data? By this I mean, if an infoobject doesn't have 'with master data' check box enabled, and has only'with text' enabled, the new masters created in BPS gets saved to the infoobject? Is this how it is expected to behave?Is there a work around to avoid creating master data from BPS?
    2.We have a multiprovider for actuals and budget. Budget comes from BPS which has only cal quarter. But the budget and actuals cube have year and quarter. In the actuals we are deriving quarter and year from trnasaction date in update rule. But for budget, we have only quarter being entered by user. Is there a way to derive the year and store in budget infocube so that reports derived out of the multiprovider can show year correctly for both budget and actuals?
    Thanks
    Suja

    >1. BPS cannot create master data at all and that setting is irrelevant fo bps. Users can only forecast on existing master data.
    This is wrong. If your infoobject doesnt have master data, then values inputted in layouts will be written into the infoobject.
    >1.Does all infoobject used in BPS layout have to be master data enabled to avoid BPS created master data?
    By this I mean, if an infoobject doesn't have 'with master data' check box enabled, and has only'with text' enabled, the new masters created in BPS gets saved to the infoobject?
    yes
    >Is this how it is expected to behave?
    I think, yes
    >Is there a work around to avoid creating master data from BPS?
    The only way, i suppose, to create infoobject with master data

  • Dynamic creation of data slices by admin users in BPS

    hi
    Can we create planning function so that administrative users can create data slices  as per their timings.
    kind regards
    Sarah

    Dear Sarah,
    I donot have any sample code as of now as I am not able to access a BPS system. But let me tell you that this is simple. Create a exit planning function. Then create a FM and assign this FM in exit function INIT FM. In the FM do the following insertions to the data slice tables.
    First have a look at the tables UPC_DATASLICE, UPC_DATASLICET and UPC_OPTIOS. Create a 22 character unique GUID. You can use the standard function modules for this. Let this guid be guid_new. Then get the maximum sort id of data slices for your planning area from the table UPC_DATASLICE. Now add 1 to this maximum sort and have it as sort_new. Now insert this guid_new, sort_new, your planning area name as a new row in the table UPC_DATASLICE.
    After that insert sort_new, your planning area name, your new data slice name to the table UPC_DATASLICET.
    The characteristic value restrictions of the data slices are held in the table UPC_OPTIOS. For the particular GUID each characteristic restriction has one row each. Consider that you are creating data slice for the year 2008 and material 'M'. So in table UPC_OPTIOS there will be 2 records with GUID guid_new. One will be for '0FISCYEAR' and the next record will be for '0MATERIAL'. See table UPC_OPTIOS for the structure of the records. You should use function module 'UPC_OPTIOS_INSERT' to insert into the table UPC_OPTIOS. Goto se37 and have a look at the function module for the structure.
    Dynamic refresh of the buffer:
    If u are creating only 1 data slice in 1 transaction then you should do the following:
    PERFORM BUFFER_DATASLICE_GET
    IN PROGRAM SAPLUPC_DATASLICE
    USING DS_AREA_NAME "insert your data slice area name here
    'E'
    CHANGING ES_AREA_SLICE.
    PERFORM BUFFER_DATASLICE_UPDATE
    IN PROGRAM SAPLUPC_DATASLICE
    CHANGING ES_AREA_SLICE.
    CALL FUNCTION 'UPC_DATASLICE_COMMIT'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'UPC_DATASLICE_SAVE'.
    This will refresh the data slice buffer!
    I think this is sufficient enough for ur requirement. You should be able to do it easily now! Feel free to ask if u have more doubts.
    Regards,
    Ares!

  • Loading data from excel to BPS layout

    Hi,
    I have BPS layouts in place and also excel sheets which are exact replica of those layouts.
    I know 2 options to load excel data into the BPS. These are:
    1) Copy and paste the data from excel to BPS layout.
    2) Create a flat file in line format from excel and then use method explained in document "How to Load a Flat File into BW-BPS Using SAPGUI.pdf".
    Is there any other way I can upload the same?
    Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
    thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Pankaj

    Thanks to Vlad, Laurent & Srini for prompt replies.
    But here the user needs to load data directly to the transactional cube.
    So it is a case of "instead of keying in values" on to the BPS planning layout, user wants to upload the data from excel into the BPS layout.
    Planning is done on SAP GUI and not web browser.
    I am able to do the same using the document "How to Load a Flat File into BW-BPS Using SAPGUI".
    But in this case the data needs to be converted into a simple csv file in line item format before it can be uploaded.
    Is there any way, where we can upload from excel file without having it to change to csv format as required in "How to Load a Flat File into BW-BPS Using SAPGUI"?
    thanks in advance.
    regards,
    Pankaj

  • Change Data in BPS Layout: Exit Function

    Hello everyone,
    We are using BW-BPS and we need to make a sort of a certain characteristic in a Planning Folder. In the specific Planning Folder it was defined an exit function and it was assigned a function module.
    We implement the following code:

      ENDLOOP.

      UNASSIGN: <ls_data>, <ht_head>.
    ENDFUNCTION.
    When execute this function, we get a DUMP (ASSIGN_TYPE_CONFLICT). Does anybody have any suggestion how to change a hash table or somehow make a sort in this hash table?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ilda

    Hi,
    After some changes in the code, it seems that xth_data table is assuming the “new content”. In debugging, we could see that the assignment was made and xth_data records are now in a different order. But when executing the BPS Layout assigned to this planning function, all the lines (records) still in the same place. The Layout doesn’t change.
    This is the code:
    FUNCTION Z_ORDENAR_CLASSIFICACAO_PLANO.

      <ls_data_copy> TYPE ANY.
      CALL METHOD cl_sem_planarea_attributes=>get_instance
        EXPORTING
          i_area      = i_area
        RECEIVING
          er_instance = lr_area.
      CREATE DATA lr_t_data TYPE (lr_area->typename_t_data).
      ASSIGN lr_t_data->* TO <lt_data>.
      <lt_data> = xth_data.
      CLEAR xth_data.
      l_sortfield = 'S_CHAS-0CMMT_ITEM'.
      SORT <lt_data> BY (l_sortfield) DESCENDING.
      MOVE <lt_data> TO xth_data.
    ENDFUNCTION.
    Does anybody understand this behavior, why the changes in the user-exit are not assumed in the BPS Layout?
    Thanks,

  • Data columns in BPS layout

    Hi,
      My current BPS layout has three columns, they are cost,price and margin respectively. The user now ask to add another column call "alert" after the margin column.
    The logic is that if the margin is less than 10%, then the alert column should marked with "X", otherwise leave it blank.
      In order to add a column after margin column, the added column have to be key figure which will not allowed characteristics,while all the other key figure type such as amount, quantity, date ect will not take
    "X".
      Any idea or suggestion.

    JW,
    If Margin is the last column on your layout, what you do is in the last layout definition screen, add the locl excel formula to the column after where the margin would appear.  Then you just use simple excel formula to do it.
    For things to appear only if there is data in the row, I typically use an IF in the excel formula and check for values in cost, price, margin.  Actually it would be 2 nested IFs.  One to check for value and the other to determine the 10% and mark it with a X...  In purely excel formula, there is no distinction between key figures and characteristics since it is only Excel.
    Hope this helps.
