BPS Newbie!

Hi Experts!!
   I need a favour from all of u gurus. I am new to BPS. i would like to know what knowledge do i need to learn BPS. It's very urgent for me .i do know bw310 and bw305. i tried to take training from sap america but all seats were booked.
For practising BPS can i practice in same server in which i do sap-bw? Meanwhile i am going thru the help.sap.com documentation.
It would be great if anyone could plz send me some traning materials or documents on BPS. MY mail id is [email protected]

Hi,
Having knowledge of BW should be sufficient to start, some experience in BW would also help.
You could very much try accessing BPS on your BW server, may not have some of the functions particular to SEM if the SEM package is not installed. But would still have most of the functionality you would need to start with.
The transaction where you do most of the modeling in BPS
is BPS0. It is changed in NW04s.

    Fields to be changed typically have only single or range values for source values and single values for target values.
    Fields for conditions usually support multiple selections.

    When you execute a planning function, the data of the planning package is processed in subsets. Those subsets are created by BPS. The users does not see them. If you are in BPS0 you can use "Execute with Trace" and each line in the trace corresponds to one internal package.

    There's no relation. FOX have it's own set of functions.

    There are no data slices in BW.

    There are a few books out. Search Amazon or SAP Press for "BPS".

  • BW work experience before SEM-BPS?

    Hello,
    I am a SAP newbie.  I have 5 years of Object-Oriented design and development experience using C++/Java.  I also have a MBA and have worked in product management/marketing for enterprise software products (customer requirements gathering and defining next version of product, sales support on closing deals) and in strategy developoment. 
    My goal is to work in SAP-SEM, leveraging my technical and business background.  I am currently taking training in BW as  was told that I need to understand BW in depth before working in SEM. 
    I am wondering whether it is required/recommended that I work on one or more client projects in BW before I take up a job in SEM-BPS or another SEM module in order to be effective in a SEM job (after taking training in the appliable SEM module) or whether I can directly take up a SEM job without having to work in BW (but getting trained in BW and practicing the module on my own).

    I suggest you go thoroughly through the standards related to accounting and consolidation:
    IFRS 3  - Business Combinations
    IAS 1 - Presentation of Financial Statements
    IAS 7 - Cash Flow Statements
    IAS 14 - Segment Reporting
    IAS 18 - Revenue
    IAS 21 - The Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates
    IAS 27 - Consolidated and Separate Financial Statements
    IAS 28 - Investments in Associates
    IAS 31 - Interests in Joint Ventures
    IAS 32 - Financial Instruments: Disclosure and Presentation
    IAS 36 - Impairment of Assets
    You should understand some basic accounting rules, like any profits/revenues/gains are always credit turnovers (negative in BCS), not only in the balanse sheet, but also in P&L etc.
    Don't know any particular books that would be useful (certainly, there are some, I just don't know).
    From the courses, it's without doubt SEM240, and probably AC660.
    And I'm sure that in your neighborhood you'll be able to find some courses related to consolidation issues provided by Big Four firms. Might be very useful.

  • SEM documentation for BPS

    Hello Everyone,
    I am starting a newbie in SEM and my client wants me to learn and get a feel of it before he can start me off on that.     Hello Amit,
    In order to understand the BPS you should have some basic knowledge about the BW. BPS stores its data in BW InfoCubes and uses BW master data etc.
    There is a quite low level introduction into the main features of the BPS that can be found in the NetWeaver 04 rampup material. Use http://Service.sap.com/rkt and look for SAP NetWeaver04. Look for BW 3.5 and the use the learning map for solution consultant.
    Why is the material to be found at the BW site but not a SEM site? With BW 3.5 the BPS was moved from the SEM to the BW and is now called BW-BPS. The underlying technology and main principles remain the same thus it makes sense to read an introduction to the BW-BPS in order to learn about SEM-BPS.

  • BPS Security

    Dear Experts,
    We are caught in a strange situation. One of our users who should have access to only her op unit for eg: ABC10, seems to have access to all the Op Units. The reports are accessed via portal by this user. The security admin person looked in her user profile and said everything is set up the way it should be. Is there anything, we need to do from the reporting side to set up authorization. I'm a newbie to BPS, so any help would be appreciated. The reports do have one characteristic, which is restricted to the Dept Authorization. But still, the user can view the report for all the op units.
    What precisely can we check from the security, portal and reporting side ? Please help.

    However, when we go to SD01 and bring up the user and click on the roles tab, we see that the user IS restricted to the correct op unit.
    We've also noticed that most of the reports that are not working well are based on a multi cube, which is a combo of actuals cube and plan cube. So we dug furthere to see how the querries based on the plan cube are behaving, and they restrict fine. However the queries based on actuals cube are not restricting fine.
    In the recent past, we've loaded some data to actuals cube during an enhancement, that's about it. So, we our admin person is not sure either.
    Is there anyplace else you suggest, we research ?
    Please advise.

  • Questions on BPS BAPI calls and PDF forms

    I will need to create a button on a BPS form and that button is supposed to call a BAPI.  One of the buttons will create a PDF of the form (using the contents of the form) and print said form to a 'default' printer.  The issue is that not all cFolder users will have an ECC logon name.  What am I to do in this instance?  Will I need to pass some type of credentials to the ECC backend in order to run this BAPI?
    Also, how can I get the contents of the form(s) to the BAPI?  I assume that I will need to create the PDF in the code of the BAPI.  Please be patient with me as this is my first time to work with cFolders and/or BPS.

    Hi Davis,
    Well, if you are able to log on the BPS application (thus, a Web Interface if I'm not mistaken) then it means that some user is logged on the ABAP-side. It is either a "personal" user or a technical (common) user, that is used for anonymous access.
    You will certainly be able to track down this user with the SM04 transaction.
    You should be able to add a button to the BPS page. One idea would be to call an URL with an ICF service behind that will be able to process the parameters contained in this URL.
    It will be this very ICF service that will call the BAPI.

  • BPS- PS Retraction Problems

    Hi,
    Am using standard FMs UPR_COST_PLAN_INIT and UPR_COST_PLAN_EXEC to retract Primary Cost plan data back to Project Systems.
    I have set up a sender structure called UPB_SND_COPS, pointing to receiver structure UPB_RET_COPS.  I have two lines in the dictionary structure section: /1SEM/_YS_KYFS_005ZARMPP03 and /1SEM/_YS_CHAS_005ZARMPP03 which relate to my planning area.
    QUESTION 1 - do I need to put anything in the offset, field length, field value fields?
    I have set up the transfer rules in transaction UPB_RULE.  This is where I have the problem.  I set up the transfers and ran the retraction and nothing was posted to R/3.  When debugging I saw that all of the fields I had set up rules for were blank when sent to R/3.
    If I go back and, instead of transfering from the sender to receiver structure, I hard code a value for all the fields in UPB_RULE, then it creates records in R/3.
    Has anyone encountered this problem?
    Does anyone have any decent documentation on this retractor?

    But when he performs this planning function there becomes an error that he hasn't an Authorization. System can not to read data from {#,V_ZFUNDS,ZSPA2} because User hasn't an Authorization ZOFUND = #. But ZOFUND authorization have not been selected for ZICPA2 infoProvider.
    Have you any comments?
    2) We have given an authorization value '#' for this User to solve the problem. And now User can see all values in the list of authorization relevant variable in the BPS. I think it's not correct. For example he can see only '#', '01', '02' values for autorization type variable in the BEx Analyzer .

    To answer ur first question, as u didnt select infocube2 for authorization and the planning function level contains 0FUNDS_CTR, system cant read any record from infocube2 example {#,V_ZFUNDS,ZSPA2}.
    Now after giving # access, he can see all values for the variable but the planning function wont work because authorization is not checked for cube2.
    i hope u should give authorization check for cube2 also. and see giving only # value to cube2.
    i didnt understand what exactly is the planning function doing.
    i guess it is dealing only those records which have 0funds_ctr as # from cube2.

    It's a no brainer between the AirPort Extreme and Airport Express.
    The AirPort Extreme has 6 wireless antennas up at the top of the "tower", while the AirPort Express has four, so the Extreme has significantly better wireless speed and range than the Express.
    As you know, the broadcast power of wireless routers is limited by law, and most routers are running full blast. Apple routers are not known for their broadcast power, so what we cannot tell you is whether the Extreme will outperform the existing wireless router that you already have in terms of range.
    Also as you know, the speed of your Internet connection is limited to the plan that you have with Verizon. An Apple router cannot take the speed of Internet connection that it receives from your Verizon plan and make it go any faster.
    A user who has both the same Verizon router as you and an AirPort Extreme might be able to tell you how the products compare in his home.
    But...and this is a big BUT...... the bottom line with any wireless router is that you will not know how well it performs in your home until you try it out in your home. To think otherwise would be foolhardy at best.
    Buy from Apple and you have a 14 day return privilege in case things don't work as well as hoped. Other stores may offer a similar option. Check first, before you buy.

  • LIST OF VALUES not Populating in BPS WEB INTERFACE ( LAYOUTS )

    I have created a WEB interface for BPS in BI ( version 7.0) .  But when i execute this in internet explorer, I do not get the LIST OF VALUES for Material. 
    When I click on "input help" the system open a new window for "Value selection".  When I specify the material code, it gives me blank LIST OF VALUES.
    But it is working for other fields like Customer, UOM in the same layout.
    Please suggest some solution.

    Master data is avaliable for the Material Code.  The problem is in Internet Explorer and not in SAP GUI .
    If i run Planning folder for the same layou in SAP GUI it is working fine.

  • Newbie Alert: Problem with saving downloads to a network drive

    I'm a new Mac user so, I apologize for the newbie question.
    I've have a NAS on my home network. I can see it and access it just fine. I have Firefox set to ask me where I want something downloaded. I don't get the option of putting, say a PDF in a folder on my network storage device.
    I can put it anywhere on the iMac's hard drive or even a USB/Firewire drive but not a network location. In Windows, you'd map a drive and be off to the races.
    How do I do this on a Mac?

    im an I.T student in Adamson University here in the philippines i went here to ask help about our activity in school about java. our professor told us to make a program in java (btw were using netbeans) that will ask the user his birth year and then the output will tell the zodiac sign of the year entered. she told us (our prof) to make it using showInputDialog. and then to show the output we must use the JOptionPane.showMessageDialog.

  • 10.5 Server : Standard Installation : Newbie Tutorial /  Setup Walk-Through

    Hello all,
    I recently setup OS X Server 10.5 for a client after doing it many times at my home. I could not have possibly done it without the help of this discussion board so thanks to everyone asking and answering questions!
    To help other server newbies easily setup Server 10.5 (as apple claims), I'm hoping to make a basic installation procedure that will always work for newbies. Right now it's not exactly "detailed" - just the basic steps to ensure success.
    Below is my setup procedure that has worked well for me (especially at my house). It's for a Standard installation; and we'll be setting up the server to include Mail (local only), iChat, VPN, File Sharing, iCal, Web Server/Wiki, Apple Remote Desktop access, and Time Machine (may not work well).
    Please let me know if I'm missing something that will help ensure this setup works as perfectly as possible on any system.
    +to help make sure this works, try using all the names i've used below (besides perhaps user names & passwords); like "server.house"+
    *1) Setup Router*
    • ensure router is properly connected to modem/internet
    • router lan address = 10.0.2.1
    • subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
    • dhcp on
    • dhcp server starts at = 10.0.2.9
    • dhcp server ends at = 10.0.2.99
    • dns server (opendns servers) = 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 (not a completely necessary step, but may help ensure it works)
    • port forward to 10.0.2.2 = vpn (udp: 500, 4500; udp/tcp: 50)
    • port forward to 10.0.2.2 = ard (tcp: 5900, 5988; udp/tcp: 3283)
    *2) Install/Setup Server*
    • startup server computer with installation cd and start installation process
    • choose "Standard Installation"
    • setup administrator account with the following settings:
    user name: Administrator
    short name: admin
    password: admin
    • setup network settings (choose manual configuration):
    manual ip address = 10.0.2.2
    subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
    router = 10.0.2.1
    dns server = 10.0.2.2
    search domain = house
    • primary dns server = server.house
    • server name = server
    +choose all the services and let installation complete; wait until desktop loads+
    Verify things are initially okay:
    • Open safari, and type "server.house" in the address bar (ensure wiki appears)
    Good, now:
    • Download latest 10.5 server combo update, install, restart.
    • Run software update until all updates are installed (may require several restarts)
    • Setup a dyndns account for your server, install dyndns software (make sure it's updating via web and the ip address doesn't start with 10.x)
    *3) Setup Server Preferences*
    • open server preferences
    • go to file sharing: turn on file sharing
    • go to vpn: turn on vpn
    shared secret = somethingsecretive
    ip address range = 10.0.2.101 - 10.0.2.199
    • go to users
    • make new user(s) with all options enabled
    +you should now have all services in server preferences enabled (if not, enable them) and user names setup; for good measure, restart the computer again+
    *4) Setup Client Computers*
    +make sure client computers have all software updates installed before proceeding+
    • Open system preferences: network
    • Make a new location called "Server"
    • Set TCP/IP to DHCP
    • DNS Server = 10.0.2.2
    • Search domain = house
    • Click apply
    It's probably a good time to double check that the internet works - open Safari and google something. Good, it works.
    There are two ways to setup the client computers to connect to the server with basically no manual configuration needed:
    First way:
    Go to system preferences: accounts: select user name to associate with server: select "server account" (if available): enter appropriate info for user on server: wait a bit: restart computer
    or (if "server account" isn't available):
    Second way:
    Open finder: applications: utilities: directory utility. once opened, it should automatically find your server. if it doesn't, click the lock, click "plus sign", type = "open directory", server name = server.house, click ok
    • enter appropriate info to connect to server and ensure it's set to automatically setup all services, once finished - restart.
    *5) If the automatic setup didn't work, here's how to manually setup the client workstations:*
    Safari
    • Open Safari and type "server.house" in the address bar, enter user/pass, make sure it connects to wiki.
    iChat
    • add new jabber account
    • jabber id = [email protected]
    • server = server.house
    • port = 5222
    • kerbos = on (you can leave off if you want)
    You can test by connecting to your Jabber account
    VPN
    • open Network in system preferences
    • click lock
    • click "plus sign"
    • interface = VPN
    • vpn type = L2TP over IPSec
    • service name = server
    • server address = your dyndns address
    • click advanced
    • dns server = 10.0.2.2
    • search domain = house
    • click ok
    • click authentication
    • enter user's server password
    • enter "somethingsecretive" in "shared secret"
    • click ok - click apply
    You can test by clicking "connect" - after verified, disconnect.
    _File sharing_
    • Open finder: click "Server" under "Shared"
    • If it connects as guest, click "connect as"
    • enter your server username/password
    Drag a file to and from a folder to make sure file sharing works
    Mail
    • Add new mail account (imap)
    • Incoming mail server = server.house
    • Outgoing mail server = server.house
    • Outgoing authentication = kerberos 5 (or password)
    • user name = [email protected]
    • enter password
    Check to make sure you get the server welcome e-mail and that you can send email to other users on the server.
    *Time Machine* (very problematic at this time)
    • Open Time Machine in System Preferences
    • Click "options"
    • Eliminate as many folders as possible to keep backup times shorter; click done
    • Click "change disk"
    • Select "Server" disk; click "use for backup"
    ** I highly recommend using local SuperDuper! backups and/or Retrospect for networked backups to the server. Other options include the dot mac Backup application or online backups (google it).
    *If you have PCs on your network that you want to be able to connect to the server for file sharing*
    • Open Windows Explorer (my computer)
    • Click tools: map network drive
    • Enter "\\server\public" (or if you setup a user account on the server for the pc user(s) i think you can use "\\server\pcusername" - and follow the next two steps)
    -Click "connect using different user name"
    -Enter pc user account username/password
    • save settings
    Check to make sure the drive shows up and you can move files to/from server

    Good idea! I forgot about the web server port forwarding, that will allow the wiki to be seen over the internet.
    One question: what does adding the dyndns address to "Server Admin > web > settings > sites" actually do? I'm not too knowledgeable about Server Admin.

  • CRM fields not populating in BPS layout for opportunity Planning 0crm_order

    We are using SAP CRM 5.0 SP09 with BW 7.0 SP 09.                                                                               
    When creating an opportunity in CRM, the product data ( quantity ,
    values) are not appearing in Planning tab( SEM-BPS Layout) .

    In your CRM system, check your mapping from CRM to BW are correct.
    You can do this in transaction SPRO. Menu path 'SAP Implementation Guide --> Integration with other mySAP components --> SEM --> Change mapping between CRM fields and InfoObjects'. Select planning application 'OPP' and click on 'Mapping table - system entries' on the left.
    In here you should see the mapping from the InfoObject to the CRM field (eg. Infoobject 0CRM_EXPREV uses structure CRM_BW_OPPT_H and field name EXP_REVENUE).
    In order for the value to be passed to planning you must tick the 'Empty' checkbox on.

    I'm currently working on BI-IP with planning function "Repost on Basis of Characteristic relationship" and it works well but i would like to know if there's something like this in BPS.
    Some old projects are in BPS and there are some derivation by characteristic relationship. In BPS if an attribute changed from the last writing a new line is created with the new value but i don't think there's another line to cancelled the fisrt one (line with old attribute value).
    I hope someone can find an issue for my question.

    Let's take an example to be sure we speak about the same thing.
    I've got a Web Interface for the input where we need to fill one Order Number with an Amount. On my Planning Area, there's a derivation by characteristic relationship for profit center (attribute of Order Number).
    I fill my interface with Order Number A and an AMount of 10.
    In my cube i have something like :
    Order number = A / Profit Center = AA / AMount  = 10
    If my master data changed and my new profit center for Order number A is AB. If i changed my data in the input with the value 20, in my cube i've got something like :
    Order number = A / Profit Center = AA / AMount  = 10
    Order number = A / Profit Center = AB / AMount  = 10
    For me it's not good because i need to have 20 in my profit center AB and 0 in AA like how it works with BI-IP and planning function "Repost with characteristic relationship". SO i need to have 3 lines in my cube
    Order number = A / Profit Center = AA / AMount  = 10
    Order number = A / Profit Center = AA / AMount  = -10
    Order number = A / Profit Center = AB / AMount  = 20
