BR*Tools  -  OMS/RMAN

Hi,
Can the BR*Tools actually replace all Oracle OMS/RMAN functions?
Systemlandscape: NW04s and Oracle 10.
Thanks,
Galia

Hello MMK
You need to have access to sapinst guide..
service.sap.com/instguides ->
SAP Netweaver ->
Netweaver 7.0 ->
Installation ->
System Copy Section ->
pick your components.
cause in here there can different things that need to be considered.
System Copy
If you want to perform a homogeneous or heterogeneous copy of an existing SAP system based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0, use the following System Copy Procedures:
For EHP2: ABAP, ABAP + Java, or Java.
For EHP1 SR1: ABAP, ABAP + Java, or Java.
For EHP1: ABAP, ABAP + Java, or Java.
Hope it helps

  • BR*Tools and RMAN Restore with Netbackup

    I want to do a restore of Oracle database from production to test database as a different Oracle SID.
    We use BR*Tools integrated with RMAN and tape library is Netbackup.
    On production database the policy name is different as compared to test database.
    Could someone please help me, how I can clone the production database to test database from the full backup.

  • Never worked on Non-RMAN Backup tools

    I have never worked on Non-RMAN backup tools. I have only worked on databases which are below 1 TB in size. If you have an Oracle 10GR2 Database which is 5 TB in size, would you still recommend RMAN for it?
    Do third party tools use RMAN internally ie integrated to it?

    My production DB is 800gb in size and it takes 3.5 hours to take a full backup in compressed mode. This means , it will take around 15 hours to backup a 5TB database !!
    Hi Jack,
    You are not obliged to do full backups with RMAN. You can use this strategy for example :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup004.htm#sthref412
    You will have a fist full backup (image copy) to do but after that only incremental backups will be done. Much space is needed of course but it works well.
    Best regards

  • RMAN and archivelogs

    Hi All,
    We are about to implement RMAN instead of brarchive/brbackup. For us the major disadvantage of using RMAN is the way it handles deletion of the archivelogs after backing them up to our TSM storage manager.
    When using brarchive a single archivelog is deleted from the archivelog filesystem once it has been backed up to TSM, in this way freeing up space in the archivelog filesystem. When using RMAN the backed up archive logs are only deleted when the complete bunch of "to be backed up archive logs" are actually backed up to TSM. This would mean that if the archive log filesystem fills up (e.g. due to problems with our storage manager or heavy archivelog creation) the space in the filesystem is only freed after the complete RMAN cycle has finished. The database would be hanging untill that time. When using brarchive a single archive log will be deleted once it has been backed up, thereby creating free space in the filesystem immediately and the database to be running normally again.
    In order to keep our systems running when the oraarch filesystem is filled up and RMAN is running we can increase the size of the filesystem untill the RMAN cycle has finished and the archivelogs are subsequently deleted. However we are wondering if there is any other way in which we can make sure that the system keeps running. E.g. is it possible to use an 'overflow archivelog filesystem" to which oracle switches once the initial archivelog filesystem fills up? Or any other method?
    What's best practice for this?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Bart Groot

    Hello Bart,
    i am sorry, but in your previous post you said that you want to "implement RMAN instead of brarchive/brbackup".
    Now you are talking about the init<SID>.sap file again.
    If you use native RMAN you have some backup scripts (for full backup, archive log backup, etc.)  in which you can specify the FILESPERSET clause. If you still want to use the BR*Tools with RMAN (which uses the init<SID>.sap file) you can specify the FILESPERSET clause globally .. so it is used for archive log files and full backups, etc.
    But as i already mentioned that should be no problem, because of in huge environments not all files should be in one backupset.

  • Oracle RMAN and SAP Databases

    Hi all,
    Am mainly an Oracle DBA and had just recently return to supporting SAP customers after a 4 year absence of supporting non-SAP customers.
    Anyway, I have some question on using Oracle RMAN with SAP databases. Backup softwares are Netbackup and Data Protector.
    I managed to get the backup working, that is, there is no issues, Oracle RMAN backup using SAP's brarchive and brbackup works alright. My question is about using an Oracle RMAN catalog. I've read thru several SAP documentation and cannot find one where I can use a RMAN catalog.
    Reading from
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/d1/43d7cab9a04a409cc46876e36762c2/content.htm
    Does that mean I cannot use a RMAN catalog? Had anyone managed to use a RMAN catalog to do the RMAN backup?
    *Another question I have is, do I need Netbackup and Data Protector if I want to run RMAN backup to disk via brarchive and brbackup? Does backint requires a SBT library to use RMAN? What I mean is, I want to use RMAN but doing backup to disk instead of to tape which means I don't need the tape library installed, will backint know that this is the case and will not look for the tape library?
    Any advise or feedback on this will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Extracts from http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/d1/43d7cab9a04a409cc46876e36762c2/content.htm are as below:
    The Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) is an Oracle backup program. You can use it as a command line interface (CLI) or as a graphical user interface (GUI) in the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM). We support RMAN with the SAP backup tools BRBACKUP and BRARCHIVE.
    RMAN uses the System Backup to Tape (SBT) interface to back up to tape devices. We implement SBT using the SAP backup library. External backup tools can implement this interface as a dynamic link library (DLL).
    Integration
    By integrating RMAN into BRBACKUP, you can add security and flexibility to important functions in existing backup strategies and tools:
    · The recovery catalog is not used. The backup information is stored in the control file. After the backup, the control file is also backed up. In a restore, the control file is restored first, followed by the data files.
    · The integration of RMAN into BRBACKUP also guarantees integration into the SAP Structure linkComputing Center Management System (CCMS).
    · BRBACKUP tape management functions as previously (that is, as when using the SAP backup library).
    · You can still use the BACKINT interface with external tools.
    · All previous SAP backup strategies are supported while using RMAN. Nevertheless, RMAN is not supported for standby database backups and split-mirror backups.
    · The following components are delivered with the standard Oracle8 installation:
    ¡ RMAN with the Oracle SBT interface
    ¡ Backup library and backup tool Networker from Legato
    ¡ Legatou2019s BACKINT interface implementation (as of Oracle 8.0.5)
    The SAP installation also delivers the SAP backup library with BRBACKUP and BRARCHIVE.

    Hi,
    This question has been answered by Stefan Koehler. Not sure why the thread is not updated by his response. I am hoping to give him the max points actually.
    It was a very good response which is as below:
    Subject: Re: Oracle RMAN and SAP Databases
    Message: Hello,
    > Does that mean I cannot use a RMAN catalog? Had anyone managed to use a RMAN catalog to do the RMAN backup?
    Correct - if you are using the BR*Tools and RMAN you are not able to use a RMAN catalog with it.
    You can do manual catalog syncs, but the BR*Tools are not supporting a catalog database.
    >Does backint requires a SBT library to use RMAN?
    Check this documentation (Point "RMAN Backups Without Backup Library"): http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/3f/9d800e1aec11d2b42c00609419997a/content.htm
    > Any advise or feedback on this will be very much appreciated.
    We are also using RMAN for taking backup of all our oracle database (SAP and non-SAP), but without any BR*Tools.
    That is also possible - check sapnote #105047 (Part "50. Recovery Manager (RMAN)").
    As you mentioned, that you are a fulltime DBA you should have enough knowledge to use RMAN without BR*Tools.
    Regards

    Thank You Very Much.What's the db version and o/s? Where did you read the term logical corruption in datafiles? AFAIK, datafiles get physically corrupted only. The logical corruption happens within the blocks , for example some index entry pointing towards a null rowid. I am not sure that I have come across any situation/reference where this corruption is mentioned for files as well. To check it, the best possible tool is RMAN which can do the job by some simple commands.

  • How to do oracle  backup,restore,recovery using php?

    Is there anyone know how to do oracle backup,restore and recovery using php? any tips... is there any ways to do that?

    Are you referring to performing RMAN backup operations via the OSB web tool? RMAN operations are managed, not via the web tool, but through RMAN command line or Oracle Enterprise Manager (EM)

  • Backup of database on 11.2.0.3 problem

    hi,
    i have database running in 11.2.0.2 on linux 5. the database is on no-arcvhive mode. I am trying to take the cold backup from rman script but the problem comes when the script tries to start database in mount but it says the the service identifier or listener does not know service is running:
    rman target sys/pws@dbname <<EOF
    spool log to /tmp/backup.log
    run {
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL t1 DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/location/db_%d_%u_%s_%T';
    sql 'ALTER SYSTEM FLUSH SHARED_POOL';
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    backup Database format '/location/%d_FULL_%u_%s_%T.bck';
    alter database open;
    backup current controlfile;
    sql 'ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE';
    release channel t1;
    what i am doing wrong?

    Hi,
    By default, the PMON process registers service information with its local listener on the default local address of TCP/IP, port 1521. If the listener configuration is synchronized with the database configuration, then PMON can register service information with a nondefault local listener or a remote listener on another node. Synchronization occurs when the protocol address of the listener is specified in the listener.ora file and the location of the listener is specified in the initialization parameter file.
    After Shutdown Database the Default Service Name is removed from Listener as you are connecting remotely on Database using TNSNAMES the service must be registered statically on Listener.
    Configuration of static service information is necessary if you require remote database startup from a tool (like RMAN).
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/network.112/e10836/listenercfg.htm#i483130
    Why you are executing "sql 'ALTER SYSTEM FLUSH SHARED_POOL';" during backup ? (just curious)

  • Best way to schedule MySQL backups.

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to use our Mac mini Server to schedule MySQL backups FROM another server.  The newer MySQL Workbench does not have a way to schedule backups, but I did find AutoMySQLBackup:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/automysqlbackup/
    Has anyone tried this with success, or is there a better/any other option?  Again, I need to connect to MySQL on another server and backup the database locally - making offsite backups.
    Thanks in advance for your help - Vijay

    RMAN is the only utility that can read RMAN backupsets (which are the default) - forget about export/import for this purpose as they are completely different tools.
    RMAN has some validate functionality built in but the best way to test to actually perform a restore. See the above link for details on that.

  • Oracle10g database backup

    Hello,
    I would like to make a online backup on oracle10g database, For my understanding. RMAN need sys privilage. and need input the passwrd to scirpt if I want to run the job by manually and i don't want to use admin privilage to perform online backup.What backup tools is the best..(export...file level backup)? or I need to buy some third party tools like "netbackup for oracle agent"...etc
    Thanks

    What backup tools is the best..(export...file level backup)?Oracle recommended tool is RMAN, which comes free with Oracle Software.
    RMAN has a rich set of features and if you use it effectively allows you to automate complete backup and recovery process.

    This database incarnation has not been registered at the repository catalog. Issue the register command.
    Be aware if this happen to be a cloned database, database id should have been reseted with the newdbid tool, othewise rman will consider it is an unregistered cloned copy of a current database.

  • BIA 7.9.5 - DAC Server keeps crashing - libc.so SIGBUS error (Solaris)

    Can you help me solving the following issue or provide me hints please?
    At the customer site we have BIA 7.9.5 running on Solaris 10 (SPARC). Unfortunately, the DAC server is crashing quite frequently with the following error:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
    # SIGBUS (0xa) at pc=0xff256514, pid=14595, tid=443
    # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.5.0_16-b02 mixed mode)
    # Problematic frame:
    # C [libc.so.1+0x56514]
    (See below, one of many crash logs…)
    Reconstruction:
    The dac server is started with the OOTB startserver.sh command. A custom execution plan is started. After a while and completely random a (random) workflows fail with the DAC logging as shown below. So, it has nothing to do with a specific workflow. Restarting the DAC server and restarting the execution plan makes the DAC server to continue the execution plan.
    The consistent part is the ‘SIGBUS’ error referring to libc.so.1. The number behind it (memory address?) differs per crash.
    Specifications:
    •     Solaris (5.)10 64b SPARC (Solaris 10 5/08 s10s_u5wos_10 SPARC)
    •     DAC 10.1.3.4.1 (updated with patch 6849481)

    Hi all... I have reviewed posts by Greg Rakers, ttc1 and user11306733 and this is my contribution:
    I assume you have the following requirements:
    1. Solaris 8, 9 or 10.
    2. SPARC 64-bit
    3. DAC 10.1.3.4.1. OBI Apps 7.9.6 and 7.9.6.1 required DAC 10.1.3.4.1 with Patch 8760212. OBI Apps 7.9.6.2 required DAC 10.1.3.4.1 with Patch 10052370. OBI Apps 7.9.6.3 required DAC 10.1.3.4.1 with Patch 12381656 *(Customers on all versions of OBI Apps using DAC 10.1.3.4.1 are recommended to upgrade to this patch)*. Patch is available for download on the Patches and Updates tab in My Oracle Support at http://support.oracle.com.
    4. Informatica 7.1.4, 8.1.1 SP4, 8.1.1 SP5, 8.6.0 or 8.6.1.
    5. JDK Standard Edition 1.6.x. for Solaris SPARC 64-bit_
    I've noticed the following:

    1. You're using JDK 1.5.x. I think this is the problem.
    2. PATH variable is set with INFA_HOME/server and INFA_HOME/server/bin paths several times.
    3. LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable does not neeed to include java paths.
    4. LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set with INFA_HOME/server/bin path several times.
    5. You are using Korn shell (ksh).
    -> ttc1
    my LD_LIBRARY_PATH is pointing to oracle Home and Informatica home.
    ie. /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/client:/opt/biee/prd1/Informatica/PowerCenter8.1.1/server/bin
    1. Your oracle path is incorrectly set in LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. INFA_HOME/server/bin is ok.

    +#+1. You're using JDK 1.5.x. I think this is the problem.
    You need to fix the following:
    -> Greg Rakers
    1. You must install and use JDK 1.6.x.
    2. You must set INFA_HOME/server and INFA_HOME/server/bin paths once in the PATH variable (recommended).
    3. You must delete java paths from LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable (recommended) or change them for the new ones (JDK1.6.x) if you need them.
    4. You must set INFA_HOME/server/bin path once in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable (recommended).
    5. You must use unix shell (sh) to run startserver.sh command
    -> ttc1
    1. You must set LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable with $ORACLE_HOME/lib32.
    -> user11306733
    1. You must install and use JDK 1.6.x.

  • Shutdown insufficient privilege

    HI i have oracle 9i with window xp professional, i want to take DB backup
    I connected with scott/tiger when i give shutdown command it gives me error
    insufficient privileges
    and when i connect system/manager even it shows the same error
    pls write me how can i give privilegs to scott/tiger

    yogesh i don't understand why you say this.
    >> 1) You can take hot backups, which are little painfull, but you can get your data in original form. You can use use tools like RMAN for this.
    Why do you call hot backup as painful ? RMAN has wonderful features which makes life pretty easy allowing you to make a consistent backup of your system with zero downtime.
    >> 2) If you go for cold backups then, whihc is the easiest approach, but are always at risk of loosing the current data, which is not backedup. For this you need to write batch/shell script wihc will take DB down copy files and start it again.
    why do you feel you will loose data. Actually in a cold backup, you don't loose any data at anytime. You shutdown the database neatly, backup your files bring it up again. There is no transaction happening then. Only thing is it results in downtime and your strategy of coldbackups depends on the service level agreements you have with your customer on downtimes.
    Now coming back to the actual question of how to backup.
    Go for RMAN hotbackups, since your db is too small, you can go for full backup everyday.
    Also once a week, you can do full logical export of the database.

  • Running OMS and RMAN catDB in one db

    We have a centralized repository db, where RMAN catalog server is running and OMS, running as well. Now, we've discovered the different nodes on our OMS rep. How can I incorporate these into registering new databases for RMAN. If I can connect to different databases thru OMS. Tnsping should work, so that I don't have to put entries in tnsnames.ora for RMAN to connect to target databases, right?. But this is not the case. Can someone help.
    Thank you,
    Mary

    Hello,
    Ora 00603 Oracle server session terminate by fatal error.
    Ora 004030 out of process memory when trying to allocate 4120 bytes(pl/sql) MPCODE,BAMMA, BAM Buffer) The ORA-04030 error message is interesting. It means that the OS doesn't have enough memory for Oracle.
    So you may monitore the Memory usage of the Server during the Symantec Backup, and check for any activity. May be the Symantec Backup runs when other Batch Jobs use already a lot of memory . You may also have to extend the RAM of the Server.
    Also, check for the RMAN script used by Symantec and compare with the "manual" script. May be, some options are used with Symantec and consume more resources on the Server.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin
