I have signed up for iCloud, and I have Notes, Reminders, Pages, and iCal shared, accessible through those apps, on my iPad, iPhone, and MacBook. BUT...when I go to icloud.com, it acts like I don't have an account yet. How can I get to iCloud?

Thank you so much for explaining it so clearly! So, I can create Pages docs and Numbers spreadsheets on my iPad and save them to iCloud so that I can access them from anywhere...I just can't open iCloud directly on my iPad, only from a computer.

I couldn't see any reason why it would be bad for my particular macbook, and it downloaded without a problem.

In what way is it terrible? Mountain Lion is pretty stable. If you are having problems, most likely they are unique to your particular system and can be fixed. If you don't like some of the new features, that does not constitute reason for a refund.
If that does not suit you, you will have to discuss a refund with Apple, as they are the only ones who can say. Note that the App Store terms do say that all sales are final, so you are not guaranteed a refund, especially since whatever problems you had are not due to defective software.

Always want to keep the boot drive with more free space than may seem necessary for performance and to function at its best, 30-40% free or even 50% is not excessive.
Ideal is to separate your system from your data.
You should always have bootable backup / clone of your system
Don't use a green drive for system or data though.
When you are done cloning system and/or data, remove the old original and keep as backup.
Then move the system drive to #1 - no matter what you want to reset the default boot volume to where the system is.

By staying with 10.5.8 you are not going to receive security updates, might want to consider 10.6.8.

I think there is bug in the new itunes, i tried almost everything can't figure out why its showing the secure link to itunes has failed !!! :( i am very upset because of it.. it is giving me hard time cant even backup my device....i tried everything :((((

almost tried everything....reinstalling ....32 bit 64 bit.. itunes. msconfig. antivirus disabling.... full antiviurs scan, installing on different computers.. using a different network....netshell command and what not.....dns flush....everything static dns...what and what not ....still problem is persisting ...can anyone help please....internet is working absolutely fine...checked everything else everything is good...but itunes cant even backup my device (((( feeling sorry for myself..

The first step should be to run your network connectivity tests.
iTunes help>>run diagnostics, just check network connectivity tests.

On the right side of the br5owser there is a scroll bar, that scroll bar does not have any contrast and is almost invisible, can't find it ???

Have seen some other questions similar to mine and they may be about same issue , but they say that the scroll bar vanishes, in effect it is still there but nearly invisible. Trying to click on it without knowing the exact location however causes the page to scroll uncontrolled. The other questions advised people to reset their browser to default but that didn't help at all. Have had this same issue for about the last 6 versions of firefox, all say in the 30s versions. Tried adding high contrast in Windows as an experiment but that didn't help at all either. Been trying help for some time and just now decided to ask my own question as other questioners may have given up or answerers may think it is resolved.
In searching through help files it has led me to find a space based theme for the browser that I enjoy, but does not solve issue of course, so... all is not lost. Took a jpg of the image of the browser that shows the issue and am trying to upload it but looks like it is stuck in upload mode. Ugh "high speed" , anyhow maybe it uploaded and is not showing, the bar on the right is about 3/4 of the way down the side if you can see it, almost invisible.

Hi all, I've had very slow speeds from my homehub for almost a week. I've tried a factory reset on the hub to no avail. I also spoke to technical support in India I think, but they were no help.
When I perform a speed check the speed from the exchange to my house is fine, it's after that it dies a death.
I've checked all cables and it is not cabling after the hub as this problem effects internet tv's that are connected via ethernet cable and others that are wireless and also tablets that work on wifi.
In the last week I have had download speeds as low as 0.03 and for only a few hours last Monday has it been OK all of a sudden. I presumed a fix elsewhere but the problem came back an hour or two later.
At the moment we can't use iplayer, youtube and every webpage takes ages to load. It's quite horrible.
Has anyone got any idea's what could be wrong and are there any diagnostic tests I can run on the hub to see if it's borked.

It sounds like you are constantly needing to restore your phone because it keeps going into recovery mode. Usually putting a device into recovery mode and restoring it can help isolate an issue to your iPhone hardware if an issue persists afterwards. I would try manually putting it into recovery mode and restoring it 1 more time:

Installation stuck, almost finished, can't cancel? mac osx 10.6.8

I've just purchased Creative Cloud, the installation is stuck nearly at the end. I can't cancel it. it's been about half an hour now just showing the blue line running but not going any further. it doesn't show up on the force quit menu either.
how do I get out of here and get this installed?

HT1291 my start up disc is almost full, can i migrate from disc 1 to disc 4 in the same mac pro desktop machine

I have a mac pro quad 8, my start up disc is 500 gig, my time mach disc is 500 gig, i have these in position 1 and 2 in my comp, i have 2terra byt disc in possy 3 and possy 4 in the mac pro, can i migrate in the same mach. from start up disc to disc 4 and once completed can i then change disc 4 to strt up disc bay one position. as such then have a start up disc wich is two terra bytes? and if so how do i go about that. your help is much apreciated , thanks.

Yes, you can. Use Disk Utility to clone one disk to the other:
Clone Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
     1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
         button.
     2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
     3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
     4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
     5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
         to the Destination entry field.
     6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
         the Source entry field.
     7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the Disk 4. Source means the current startup drive - Disk 1.
Note that a Time Machine backup drive needs to be a minimum of twice the capacity of the drive it backs up. If you have a 1 TB startup drive, then you need a 2 TB backup drive if you use Time Machine.

I've been looking around for a freeware java compiler for my GF and everytime I find one it says somethign about it requires something else.

If u missed it, u can try clicking on the link "Products & API" on yur left. Then choose the JDK u wan. but for normal computer programming, Standard Edition is good enuff. Click on "JavaTM 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SETM)" link. And yup here u r. click on the "Download
J2SETM v1.4 Now!" link and u r on yur way. Click on the download under the SDK colum where the operating system is of yur choice. using windows? den click on the download in the windows(all version) row and under SDK column. den after tat read the agreements (if u wan) and click on the ACCEPT button. click the other, u will never get to download the SDK. :)
In this last screen click on the link there and the download will start. onli around 38MB may take ard 5 hours on a 56kbps modem. (guess). if u think it is too long to wait, use download manager tat can resume download to get yur stuff.

IPad mini screen has went almost black can't see the screen

iPad mini was working great then all of a sudden the screen went black , tried to reset and the apple logo appeared then the screen went black . Can take screen shots and when I access Siri it says please connect to the internet but the screen is still black . When I now try to reset the screen is constant black and can just about make out the apple logo in certain light . I have tried a full reset using iTunes but still the black screen - any suggestions ?? The LCD screen had just been replaced 1 week ago and worked great

It could still be a hardware problem somewhere on the iPad. If you have restored the device, there is nothing more that you can do software-wise. I would take it to an Apple Store and ask them to take a look at it or go back to the repair center and see if they can correctly diagnose the problem.

Time Machine almost full, can I start a new drive and NOT delete old one?

Because I had an External HD crash, I was wondering if I can start a new External Hard Drive (500 GB) from scratch (meaning I don't copy old files to it) and keep the old one as a back up to the back up??? Also, I have NOT been backing up the applications and on the new drive, would like to do that. If I move the old stuff from the 300GB, won't the Applications take up most of the 500 GB??
Or is is simply better to copy everything over (I asssume it all remains on the old 300 GB hard drive) and simply let it start rewriting? My iMac is gettin on in years and I'd like to be prepared should something happen to it.
And as you can tell, I am not very techie so please feel free to talk down to me.

Again, I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean put the old TM drive "on the shelf" and start fresh on a new one, then yes. Eject and disconnect it, then format the new one (see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #5 if you're not sure how). Give it a different name, so you're sure which is which, then select it as the destination via the Time Machine Preferences window. TM will do a full backup to it, so may take a while.
The backups on the new drive will be completely separate from the old ones.
If you ever need to see or restore from the new ones, use the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per #17 in the above link.

No -- your Applications folder is probably in the range of 10-20 GBs.wn to me.

"Other" disk space is almost full; Can't restore "firmward file"

I am not quite sure what has happened with my mini. First of all, I did just get a new computer. I think this was the first time I hooked up my mini...maybe I missed a step here. I downloaded iTunes 7.0. Now there is some new summary page and it is telling my that my ipod has 3.60 GB of "other" information. I tried to erase and start over using the 5R strategy. I cannot restore because I get an error message stating that "iPod cannot be restored because firmware file cannot be found."
Needless to say, I am having serious issues. If anyone has some ideas, please let me know. I think I may have read the available information on the apple site, so any other info would rock.

I tried that and now there is an error message that says: The ipod cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application.
There is also a pop up window titled "Autoplay" that seems like it very quickly scans through my library.
It did help and took my iPod through most of the process, but it did not complete the restoration.

ive been getting the java.sql.SQLException: Incorrect syntax error for one of my sql nested statements. i cant seem to find similar egs online, so reckon if anyone here could help, really appreciate it.
as im putting the nested sql in jsp page, it has to be with lots of " " n crap. very confusing if there are nested.
heres the sql statement without those "" that i want to use:
select top 5 * from(
select top+"'"+offset+"'"+" * from prod where cat=" +"'" cat "'"+"
)order by prodID desc
when i put this in my jsp pg, i had to add "" to become:
String sql = "select top 5 * from("+"select top"+"'"+offset+"'"+" * from prod where cat=" +"'" +cat+ "'"+")order by prodID desc";cat=" +"'" cat "'"+")order by prodID desc";
all those "" are confusing me to no end, so i cant figure out what should be the correct syntax. the error says the syntax error is near the offset.

If offset is, say, 10, and cat is, say, "new", then it looks like you're going to produce the SQL:
select top 5 * from(
select top '10' * from prod where cat='new'
)order by prodID descThat looks exactly like incorrect syntax to me... top almost certainly can't handle a string literal as its operand... you almost certainly would want "top 10" instead of "top '10'"...
If you use PreparedStatement, you don't have to remember what you quote and what you don't and you can have your SQL in a single static final string to boot...
