Branch Office without network

Hi!
We have been trying to use a branch office install on a single computer for concurrent access from multiple (local) clients.
This works like a charm as long as the computer is on a network (dial-up up or LAN). When we disconnect from the network, new connections to the BO database tends to take several seconds.
The BO machine OS is Windows NT or 2K
I suspect this delay has something to do with the network connection. We have tried to install Microsft Loopback Adapter to remedy this. The result is that it is a little bit faster than before, but the delay is still there.
Is the Branch Office multiuser listener bound to a specific network interface? If so can it be changed? Or does anyone have any other ideas...

It is possible that a PC responds slowly when connecting to the a MU listener when the PC is not on the network. Check how the DSN is defined. Defining it as a localhost may speed up.
MU Listener uses Windows sockets to open the connection.

  • Branch Office - client network (Unauthenticated)

    Hi There,
I have a remote office(RO) (just two users) that I want to connect to our head office (HO). The HO subnet is a 192.168.4.X/23 with GW 192.168.4.1. The RO subnet is 10.10.10.x/24. I am using a non-microsoft site to site IPSEC vpn tunnel between the two sites.
I have route statements on both sites, and I have transparent traffic routing from both direction (literally the equivalent of an any-any ACL). I can ping devices on both sides from the other side. I have even been able to do port scans from both sides to
the other side of computers with no issues (for clients/servers that have their MS Firewall disabled).
On the RO I am handing out DHCP in the RO subnet a small range of IP's with the DNS servers pointing to the HO DNS servers. I have also added the WINS servers to the RO DHCP options. I have name resolution working properly, and traffic for internal resources
    routes properly over the tunnel.
The problem I am having is that any client that I put in the RO, it's network says "OURDOMAIN.local 2 (Unauthenticated)" and it has Network Type listed as "Public" and I cannot change it. When the same client is connected in the HO, it
shows "OURDOMAIN.local (Authenticated)" and access to all our servers works properly.
In the RO, I cannot connect to any of our domain connected servers services (file shares, Exchange, print server, I can't even RDP into any machine from the RO into the HO), outside of getting DNS name resolution.
I have created a subnet in sites and services for the RO, and I have added that subnet to the HO Site. I have even added a DNS reverse lookup zone for the RO subnet, but I'm not getting any registrations in there.
Placing an RODC in the remote office is really not an option (I have to do this on the cheap, additionally the physical space is very small).
I feel like I'm missing something stupid. Would appreciate any assistance.
    With regards,
    Tim

You cannot share files on a public network. You will need to fix that to get file sharing working.
If all else fails you can change the security settings to allow unidentified networks to be private. By default they are set to public.

  • Branch Office Connectivity

    hi
we have firewall setup in our main office with following setup:
we are running DC on Windows 2008 Servers with MS Exchange 2010, lync 2010 and ip phone as well.
planning to setup AD replication to our branch offices for network drive access and group policy update; kindly advice on this.
    Best Regards,
    Ramesh TP

    Hi
i think you mean about best practice topology.
First of all,you will add Additional Domain Controllers on your branch offices. Also This ADC will have DNS,DHCP role based. And will deploy a File server.
Important point is structure you want to build.
    This is a detailed article about domain topologies, So please check this article about your questions;

  • Simulating small branch office in lab network

    Hi,
I have to setup what seems to be a very basic configuration, but it doesn't work.
In our lab there is a cluster of switches with a 3550 that does all the routing for vlans.
I need to simulate a sort of a small branch office that has one connection
to the outside world (the lab network).
    Here is my design:
    Vlan 230 (the internet)
A port on 3550 is in vlan 230 and is connected to e0/0 (172.26.230.150) on 2611 router.
    e0/1 interface on a 2611 is (192.168.1.1).
    A PC is connected to e0/1 (192.168.1.12).
From the router I can ping any host on vlan 230 and other vlans,
I can also ping the pc connected to e0/1.
However from the PC I can only ping 192.168.1.1(e0/1) and 172.26.230.150 (e0/0)
    Below is my configuration
    Thanks for your help.
    R2611-1#sh run
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration:
    version 12.0
    service timestamps debug uptime
    service timestamps log uptime
    no service password-encryption
    hostname R2611-1
    ip subnet-zero
    ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.9
    ip dhcp pool 192.168.1
       network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
       default-router 192.168.1.1
    interface Ethernet0/0
    ip address 172.26.230.150 255.255.255.0
    no ip directed-broadcast
    no ip mroute-cache
    no mop enabled
    interface Ethernet0/1
    ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
    no ip directed-broadcast
    no ip mroute-cache
    ip classless
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.26.230.1
    ip http server
    no scheduler allocate
    end

You are not performing nat on the router.
This is typically required on a box which provides internet connectivity.
Probably the other hosts on vlan 230 have no route back to the pc on 192.168.1.1
Configuring nat on the router will resolve this problem.

  • Small branch office network

We have a small branch office (7 users) that will be moving to a building that has a Wireless Residential Gateway (Model: DPC3829).  This device provides wifi for 2 other tenants on the same floor.  Can we connect another wireless router to this wireless residential gateway device and create our own SSID so that we don't have to use the wifi settings that the other 2 tenants connect to?
I've attached a picture of what the back of the DPC3829 currently looks like.  I am thinking I can plug that yellow network cable into another wireless router and create our own wireless network (obviously off of their internet connection) for our 7 users.
    Thank you for your help.

u may but any plane wireless device and run it in bridge mode (shouldd run by default i beleive). Then connect one of its lan port to any one of the lan ports available on the DPC3829 thing.
you are correct in what you want to do, and it can be done no problem.

  • ASA5505 I cannot reach to an outside network from a branch office

My customer has a HQ office and many Branch offices. In the HQ there is an ASA5510 configured as a default gateway, From HQ customer must access to internet (everythig works fine), from Inside LAN should reach to anyway including special services like Credit Card service provider and others (it works fine). From Branch offices must reach Inside LAN hosts (it works fine), from Branch Offices must reach DMZ (it works fine), from branch offices should reach CC Service provider and here's the point of this Q, From almost all branch offices they reach CCSP fine but branch offices where an ASA5505 is installed (Offices that reach CCSP have a RV042 installed or a TPlink ER6120 installed) but offices with ASA just can ping to LAN side of CCSP's router.
I think ASA5505 conf is an opened door configuration. Here's the 5505 configuration and also attached the network diagram. Some one can help please

    Hi,
Are the branch offices connected to the HQ through some ISP MPLS network since I do not see any L2L VPN configurations on the ASA5505?
I presume this is the case. Since you say that the connections between Branch Office (with ASA5505) and HQ LAN work fine it should tell us that there should be no routing problems between those networks.
The diagram possibly also suggests that all the Branch Office connections come to your HQ network through the same Router at the edge so if other Branc Offices connections CCSP work then there should be no routing problem between the Branch Offices and the CCSP (atleast regarding your part of the network)
    Now, some questions.
Does the ISR Router forward traffic destined to CCSP directly to the Router at 192.168.2.249 ?
Does the Router with the connection to the CCSP use the Internet to reach the CCSP or is there somekind of dedicated connection between these networks?
If the Router towards CCSP uses Internet then does it lack some NAT configurations for the source network 192.168.27.0/24? Does it perhaps lack a route towards the network 192.168.27.0/24? Or is there any possible errors in the configurations (wrong gateway IP or network mask somewhere?)
Is there any ACLs configured on the Router that has the connection to the CCSP that might block traffic?
Does the CCSP have all the required routing information to pass traffic towards the network 192.168.27.0/24? (If were talking about a dedicated connection and not traffic through the Internet) Have they allowed traffic from the mentioned network 192.168.27.0/24 to their servers/network?
Have you taken "packet-tracer" output from the ASA5505 to confirm that the ASA configurations allow the traffic and dont drop it for some reason?
    For example
    packet-tracer input inside tcp 192.168.27.100 12345 193.168.1.100 80
You can modify the IP addresses (source/destination) and the used destination port and protocol to match the connections that are actually attempted.
Have you monitored the connections on the ASA when users attempt them? This should atleast tell you why they are failing or give a hint. You could also configure traffic capture on the ASA5505 if you wanted to make sure if any traffic was coming from the CCSP towards this ASA (return traffic for connection attempt)
    Hope this helps :)
Let me know if I missunderstood the situation wrong somehow.

  • Windows 8.1 laptop not connecting to domain in branch office

We have a problem with a laptop.
It is installed in our Head office (The Netherlands), just like all other laptops by using an image.
Tested and working on the domain.
The user had to go to one of our branch offices (China) and when he connected there, the laptop just won't connect to the domain.
When he plugged in the laptop, it keeps trying to connect it's directaccess.
Other laptops (same image) immediately recognize the domain network, but this laptop just won't.
I am able to ping everything on the local network (MPLS connection), from HQ to all Branch offices but not access them.
I've tried changing the DNS settings, but without any result.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
According to this tool's description, I think it should be helpful to check system current enviroment, such as network, certificates, etc. problem. Actually according to your description, I doubt it probably network enviroment of ISP problem, but we should
find a way to verify our suspect. Then this tool would be convenient, it also would generate a trace log and it would be helpful with troubleshooting.
The DirectAccess Client Troubleshooting Tool is a graphical application, based on the .NET Framework, which checks the health of a DirectAccess client by running various tests.  Built-in health tests: The following tests are currently implemented:

  • Branch Office Mail Server?

I have Mac OS X providing mail services to about 100 users at a main office. We are opening a branch office with 20-30 users. I'm wondering if it is possible to setup another mail server for the branch office using the same domain. The users at the branch office are moderately heavy users who will often deal with lots of attachments. I would like them to have an IMAP server that is local to them for better performance and to reduce traffic on the main office network.
I thought I'd give it a try. There's a field called "Mail Server" on the mail tab of WGM for each user. I put the address of the branch office server in that field. However, the main office server keeps the messages in its own mailstore. So, what's this field for? It doesn't seem to do anything.
I see a way to accomplish this by editing the postfix alias file for each user and adding a line for each branch office user like branchofficeuser: [email protected] but that wouldn't be so nice if I ever have to turn over administration of these servers to someone else.
Is there any way to distribute mail for users of the same domain across more than one IMAP server without resorting to entering aliases to subdomains for each user?

  • Branch Office DC Demand Dial VPN connection keeps failing

    here is me issue
Our Branch Office DC is connected to Main Office DC with a Demand Dial Connection in RRAS Everything is connected fine for a little bit then its like the connection just gives out, it stays connected but i cannot ping the branch office DC with the local
IP from the Main Office or access any network shares on it. When this happens i have to disconnect the server at the remote office and wait for it to reconnect im currently baffled as there are no Error LOGS to help me along and there doesnt seem to be anything
that would be causing the issue for now until i get some answers as to what is going on i opened a command prompt on the DC here at the main office and i typed "ping 10.141.70.25 -t100" to monitor the connection more or less and when i see it timeout
i reconnect it, i also have the networking tab open in task manager to monitor the LAN and RAS (Dial-In) Interface  the LAN doesnt seem too active but the RAS Interface does its got a constant network utilization of 0.28% and the Demand Dial interface
on the remote office DC has a Utilization of 0.38% (Server Just disconnected as i was typing this and the utilization on the VPN connections on both servers went through the roof) heres the troubleshooting i have tried so far
    1. Rebooted both office DC`s at the same time
    2. Rebooted the branch office DC alone (this helped a little because the connection is staying active longer without fail)
    3. looked through all RRAS configuration on both servers to see if theres any mistakes by any other administrators (None Were Found)
    4. Used wireshark to see if there was anything interfering or that would cause this to happen (Nothing found)
    5. manually connected to the server in multiple ways like accessing network shares and remote management via MMC and manually making the servers replicate to see if any of that was causing issues and it wasnt
My thoughts: im starting to think it may be a switch or something causing the connection issue at the branch office because the main office has all new routers and switches and just recently got a 100.00MBPS connection but nothing was affected for a good
month so im not thinking it is the new connection or anything at the main office if theres something im overlooking here please let me know if some ipconfig /all results are needed i can provide them

  • Auto deploying branch office printers with Direct Access

    Hello there
I am implementing my first Direct Access topology and have a question. We will have branch offices with workstations deployed using Direct Access for administrative purposes. We have staff moving around from branch to branch with the goal to
make logging on to the network and accessing resources for users as automated as possible. One of the questions I have regards auto configuring branch printers for users using Group Policy. The branch offices have workstations, printers and NAT modem/routers
with DHCP - but no servers.
If we have a stand alone network printer, how do we list that printer in Active Directory allowing the user to auto-configure it using group policy? If we install it on a server at Head Office, would the print job travel there first and then back to
the branch? Obviously this is not ideal. Or can it be directed straight to the printer using a script or something?
Alternatively we can install and share it on a branch workstation and list it in the directory, but would this not be same the problem as above? This is not ideal either as it would depend on the workstation being always on and available.
    Any input Direct Access gurus?
    Thanks in advance
    MIS5000

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
We could have 2 possible solutions for natively deploy printers using Group Policy without the need for any scripting:
    1) Group Policy Preferences – available in Windows Server 2008 and later
    2) Print Management – available in Windows Server 2003 R2 and later
    http://blog.powershell.no/2009/11/08/deploying-printers-using-group-policy/
Did you try to use the Print Management? You can share printers on a network and centralize print server and network printer management tasks using the Print Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. Print Management helps you to monitor print
queues and receive notifications when print queues stop processing print jobs. It also enables you to migrate print servers and deploy printer connections using Group Policy.

  • Branch office installation of Oracle 8i Lite

I have developed a Java application using Oracle 8i Lite. I know, how to extract a required datbase file and supporitng run time files using deploy utility for stand alone machine. Thus, i can zip and send those file by email or thru web server to the client for installation on stand alone machine.
Since we can not use the Web to GO server, we want to send the Branch office database and its run time files (Only required files for running and not for developing) for server as well as for client to work in the LAN in the same manner as how deployed on stand alone machine without sending the Oracle lite CD and without using the Web to GO server.
In short, we want to install the Branch office Database machine files and Branch office client files by sending only required files in email without using web to go server and without sending Oracle lite CD.

  • Branch Office CME design Verification

    Hi All,
Please refer to the attached network diagram.
I need to verify this can be implemented and would work.
We have a branch office moving to a new location and they intend to keep their existing CME (for business reasons),  provided by their local service provider with ISDN line for calls to the PSTN. This is managed by the service provider and we have no access to it. However we would like to grant them connectivity to the existing corporate voice network via an IP VPN connection, which shall be put in place soon. This will enable  the branch make site to site calls within the corporate network
With a SIP trunk between the internal and external CME, I intend to make all the phones register with the Call Manager, however on the call manager , set a route pattern for calls going out to the PSTN from this branch back to the internal CME and this will then be matched by a SIP dial peer  directing the call to the external CME out to the PSTN.
My worry is with the delay  that might be introduced when making a PSTN call as the internal CME has to first contact the call manager in order to know where to send the call.
So my questions are as follows,
    1. Is this solution feasible especially in terms of delay? If not,
    2. Are there any other ways to achieve the same scenario
    Thanks,
    Yomi

Are the phones at the branch office going to register to the Internal CME? If so, all configuration for outbound dialing will be done on the Internal CME, not on UCM. ie. dial-peer on the Internal CME for outbound dialing. For phone connectivity back to UCM, you will have a SIP trunk between UCM and internal CME and that is perfectly acceptable. You "might" see some quality degradation but that is to be expected from Internet based WAN connectivity. If your RTT delay is greater than 150ms, then you might see some quality issues.

  • Branch Office Direct Printing - server offline?

    Hi All,
We are implementing Branch Office Direct Printing and I have a question about when the server is down or, in the case of a WAN connection to/from the branch going down, the client being unable to reach the server.
I could have sworn I originally read about Windows 8/2012 being smart enough to send the print job straight from the client to the printer in cases where it can't talk to the server, but now I seem unable to locate that information.  Is that indeed
    the case (hopefully)?
    Thanks,
    Wes

Branch Office Direct Printing may benefit your organization in the following ways:
Client      computers running Windows Server 2012 obtain printer information from the      print server, but send the
print jobs directly to the printer. The print      data no longer travels to the central server and then back to the branch      office printer.
The      printer information is cached in the branch office, so that if the print      server is unavailable for some
reason (for example if the WAN link to the      data center is down), then it is still possible for the user to print.
The      client computer renders the print job before sending it to the printer.      The major difference between Branch Office Direct
Printing and Client-Side      Rendering (CSR) is that Branch Office Direct Printing does not send the      print job to the server. Instead the job is sent directly to the printer,      resulting
in a significant reduction in network bandwidth usage when the      printers are centrally managed.

  • Branch Office will not host Microsoft services/servers - Sites and Subnets

    Hi,
    The scenario is the following:
    1 Domain. Windows 2012 R2.
6 sites. 1 DC per site. 3 subnets per site.
    5 sitelinks.
The sites diagram is the following:
The branch office "SITE04" will not host any Microsoft service/server/PC. Network routing/flow scheme will not change (branch office SITE04 reamins routing traffic to/from SITE05 and SITE06).
    The questions are:
Does the existing SITE04 subnets must be deleted?
Does the existing SITE04 site must be deleted?
Does the existing SITE04-SITE05 and SITE04-SITE06 site links must be deleted?
if yes to any of the above questions?
How to redesign the subnets/sites/site links?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks MrX for your response.
The SITE04 branch office will not host Microsoft-based PCs/Servers/Services. SITE04 will be used for network traffic routing purposes and will host servers from another platform.
    Why to mantain SITE04 subnets?
    Thanks in advance!
In this case, maintaining the subnets would be optional.

  • Branch Office setup

    Hello All.
I have a problem with a branch office setup, and I can't for the life of me think of what the problem is.
I have a remote office setup, using an ASA 5505 that is set up to establish an easy vpn connection to the central network.  The connection at the branch office is a 20/5 cable modem, the central network has a 25/25 fiber connection.
The issue I have is this.  Wired clients work fine at this branch office, at least 95% of the time.  I have a lightweight AP there that can come up and join the controllers at the central network, no problem.  I haven't done anything with H-REAP because there are really no resources locally they need that would allow them to do their work, so all traffic is tunneled back to the WLC.
Wireless clients can authenticate to the AP, and I can get 15-20ms ping responses from them all day.  Latency never comes close to the 600ms proposed limit with CAPWAP.  Yet, for some reason the performance of the clients is problematic.  Webpages will frequently not load correctly, they experience some freezing, and with one application we use - it refuses to load completely.
If we bring these same computers to an AP connected to our central network, on the same SSID, they work flawlessly.
Something about this particular location is causing a lot of grief for our users.
For what it's worth, we are running WCS 7.0.230.0 and the WLCs are on 7.0.116.0.  The ASA is running a pretty basic configuration, pretty much out of the box with the easy vpn configuration entered.
Any help on this would be appreciated, I am at my wit's end with this setup.

    Yes, 20/5 Download/Upload.
So I did as you suggested, here are the results with a 1400 byte packet:
    Ping statistics for 172.16.253.50:
        Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 99, Lost = 1 (1% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 17ms, Maximum = 2208ms, Average = 42ms
That 2208ms response was an anomaly.  I ran it again and got this:
    Ping statistics for 172.16.253.50:
        Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 93ms, Average = 21ms
With this one specific application we're testing with - it stops loading at a predictable point, every time.  However, I can remain VNC'd to this machine the entire time, and do anything else on the machine, but the application will fail to load at the same point every time.  But like I said, if I bring that client back to our main network, it works just fine, so it's not the application itself causing the problem, and we have other, smaller issues with other applications we have.  It's really bizarre.
It's really not acting like interference.  I just set up a new site with an identical configuration - but with a 3502i AP, and I can replicate the behavior at that location too.  Unfortunately at this time we don't have anything to study the traffic with - I actually have a call on a solution for that this afternoon.
