Branched to new discussion ?

When I click on this Hyperlink I get the following error message:
It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake.
How do I access these ?

Continue reading, but learn the differences.
Opinion polls ("Does anyone else have a problem with Genius Bar??????!!!!!!" -- not the telltale poor punctuation) are disallowed.
Open complaints ("Genius Bar %^&#$%$ !!") are open for removal.
Some of the posts do "walk the line", that is true.  But moderators do not like to interfere, and only do so with gross violations.
It may get confusing, but please do not simply avoid asking a question if you have a specific issue ... better to start with "highly resitricted" and learn slowly how to open up the reach of your postings than to hurt yourself by not asking anything.
And stay *very very* happily ignorant about "jailbreak", for both your personal life and life in this forum.

  • New Discussions: for day time use only? (-: A darker blue, please!

Thanks a lot Mods for your efforts.
I spend some time on these boards every day, so I can see things are going better and better.
I like the new Discussions better than the previous, especially everything that comes with this new ability to put much more on one page (like being able to see A LOT (not only five) of "Recent topics in this category", or that the topic's titles can be longuer than before, or being able to read the whole thread without jumping to "the next 15 posts" like before. I set "My Posts" to "50", this too was not possible before. Etc.)
    Now my request:
At first I thought, like many others, that the "blue dot" and the "blue half-dot" were too small, and that we couldn't see the small grey "New!" because it was not red.
Now after all this time since Nov14, I finally understood what was wrong, because
    (1) the new kind of eye fatigue I didn't experienced before, and
    (2) a change in my computer's room lighting configuration.
The real problem is not the blue dot size (altough I'm sure if it was a square it would work better), it is its environment.
We have a white line after a light blue line, and this is a great feature to differenciate between topics. Works great within a thread too, to differenciate posts.
But one side effect of this is that the whole page "feels" slightly blue.
I'm not sure, but a human eye physicist could perhaps explain another kind of (more insidious?) side effect caused by the alternance of lines. Perhaps depending on which color are chosen for them?
Anyway, there is no problem with a page that "feels" blue, when the text is black.
The problem starts when the text ALSO is blue. Especially light blue...
I find the text blue color too light. Even the "visited link" purple is too light.
Given that the background is blueish, I mean. Otherwise it'd be fine.
This was not easy to understand, because the [defect/effect] is not obvious: the overall picture is nice.
But it became obvious to me when I saw that I have no problem IF I set my screen's brightess to "very bright".
New Discussions: for day time use only?
==> Please, would it be a problem (or too difficult to set perhaps?), to try a darker blue text for two or three weeks, see if we like it better? (along with a slightly darker purple for the visited links).
Thanks again for all the great work!

    Hi Axl,

I thought it was interesting.Hopeful this color issue can be alter but deepening the colors as you & many have requested.

  • 'New Discussion' form

    Hello everyone
I have a Discussion Groups page in a collaboration room template.  When a user goes to create a new discussion in one of the discussion groups, the discussion topic title field is labeled as 'Name'.  I'm interested in changing this label to 'Discussion Title' or something similar, because the users are getting a little confused as to whether it means their name or the name of their discussion topic.  However, I don't know where to go to change this attribute.  It isn't an XML form, and I don't think it's part of the layout set.  Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!  Points will be rewarded
    - Fallon

    Hi,
In general speaking, all the metadatas fields have associated a bundle file. This file allow to do the translation to differets lenguages.
You can find this attribute (property metadatas), see which file is using and then modify it.
Each field has a label key, within bundle file you must look up this label and change the value associated.

  • Collab IDK Store a new Discussion message security settings

I am working on an ASP.NET 2.0 application that creates a new discussion message. When I login as administrator I am able to store the message. I receive the following error as a user configured with admin access to the project workspace discussion:
    (remote) storeDiscussionMessage: Undeclared Exception Type
    com.plumtree.remote.rat.XPUndeclaredBackEndException: Failed<br>Not allowed post messages
The application is developed using App Accelerator. The Remote Session is created by using this.m_portletContext.GetRemotePortalSession() in an ALIPortlet Page.
Any info regarding the required user security settings for creating a message through the IDK is greatly appreciated.

I can't belive how fast the hosts are. By the time my above reply was posted you were already in the MacBook Pro Forum. Hopefully you'll get the solution to your problem now.

  • Missing text markup features in the new discussions platform

    Hi guys,
The old discussion platform provided us with ability to use some useful markup for:
rendering a source code (with syntax coloring) - [code] ... [/code]
    rendering a text with a fixed pitch font - <tt> ...</tt>
    referencing other forum messages - {message:id=1234567}
    referencing other forum threads - {thread:id=1234567}
    referencing forums - {forum:id=83}, etc.
I cannot find any equivalents in the new discussions platform, which makes composition of messages more difficult. Are there any equivalents?
    Dimitar

    Dimitar,
right now there are no replacements for the old tags. You can use the advanced editor to insert code into posts (which has it's limitations). Please read How to use the forum editor to create professional documents (Tips & Hints) for some more hints.
Links to threads and messages can simply copied into the post and the the editor will convert them to something nice. Or you use the add link button from the toolbar of the editor.

  • New Discussions forum/mailing list request

To whom would I address a request to make a new Discussions group (here on discussions.apple.com) and/or an email list from lists.apple.com?
I would like to see a new forum (or forums) in iTunes for programmers. Perhaps one for Macintosh and one for Windows. This forum would be for programmers who are trying to write programs that interact with iTunes through the Apple-provided APIs, and would like assistance.
There doesn't seem to be an existing forum or mailing list for these kinds of questions.

To whom would I address a request to make a new
    Discussions group (here on discussions.apple.com)
and/or an email list from lists.apple.com?
This is the right place to ask for a new forum. There is one already for developers in general:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=727
If it is assistance from Apple you are seeking rather than from other developers, I think the channel would probably be
    http://developer.apple.com/

  • New discussion format comments

Firstly, I understand that the new discussions are just being put online, so I understand the problem of about every other page selection (query, back, anything) in Safari gives me the page not found error. I assume that gets fixed, soon.
Secondly, the old discussion had NEW content in threads marked in RED, easy to see when scanning many pages of posts; the new blue bubbles are difficult to see quickly.
Thirdly, ALL of "my posts" are marked as having new content, even if they don't since the changeover. It means I'll have to read all of them to clear those blue bubbles. I've got over a hundred posts online right now, so that's quite a lot. Maybe you folks could fix that?
    Ed

I guess I can't edit my recent posts anymore, either...or remove them...
My "level" came back into my "my public profile" with a whole new point total (>4000). I guess their is a new leveling system.
And I found the "mark all read" at the head of each discussion area (though not on the "my posts" list); it was obscured before by one of the many blue question marks I see when the system continually fails to load all or parts of a page.
The new servers don't seem to work very well. Lots of lost stuff: images (blue question marks), formatting tags (whole pages not formatted correctly), and "lost connection, page not found" by Safari.
I guess it will get better over time.
What was wrong with the old one?

  • I Hate the new Discussions!

If you get lucky, all the topics in iPod will show up. Sometimes iPod nano will not be there, other times, only iPod with Video will be. Secondly, after I post a response, it brings me to this wonderful blank Apple screen.
What ever happened to the Warn Apple feature that they introduced about 4 days ago?? Maybe they didn't like it...
    MV

Or just make a rule that there's only one login
screen name allowed per IP address. It shouldn't be
    that hard to implement.
Sure, you can get around that still and it might
cause pain for those who have a family and multiple
persons use the discussions in that family, but it
would prevent most from abusing the system (and thus
    giving themselves points).
It would also cause major grief to large organisations and educational institutions which only have a single external IP address and potentially hundreds of users behind that IP address.
To be honest on the old system you could do the same thing, but as voting was tracked it was pretty easy for the Mods to spot (and I suspect that the same tracking is in place for the new discussions).

  • Why the new Discussions format is so wrong

This topic is not for what we like or don't like about the new discussions format, nor about what works and doesn't work. It's about philosophy.
Why do people come to the Apple Discussions? Why are the Apple Discussions so popular? What will the new format change?

Why do people come to the Apple Discussions? Why are
the Apple Discussions so popular? What will the new
    format change?
I believe there are at least three reasons:
    - To ask a question / get an answer
    - For discussion
    - For community
The new format focuses on the question/answer format only. It discourages discussion and destroys community.
Community is what makes Apple great. When someone becomes an Apple user they join a community.
The old Apple Discussions was a place for discussions, as well as for question/answer. The community joined together to help, to answer questions. It was a team effort.
The new format makes Apple Discussions like many other discussions, not a discussion, but a question/answer depot. Two people can be helpful, one can give the answer. End of discussion. End of community.
The old format encouraged partnership, the building of a helpful community.
The new format is individualistic: Question - answer - who's next?
Think about other help forums you have posted in. They are question/answer based. Once you have the answer to your question, do you go back? Rarely.
Why do the "experts," the ones with answers, come to the Apple Discussions? To help people, and also for community. The new format discourages discussion. With community gone, people will leave and look for community elsewhere. Then who will answer the questions?
The new format focuses on the question/answer format only. It discourages discussion and destroys community.
    Do you agree? Disagree?

  • Specify branch for new users - ep60, ads

We have an ADS with three different branches, holding internal, external and IT Users. We connected our EP60 development system to the top branch (flat hierarchy).
So it's possible to logon with all the users from the different branches. But if we create new users, they are put to the top branch. How could we tell EP to put new users to the external branch?
We configured three different LDAP Data Sources. This works, but it takes a long time to login! So it would be better to just define one Data Source and we would just need an additional property which tells ep where to put new users. Is there anything like this?
    Thanks,
    Markus

    Hi Markus,
did you solve your problem already ? We have the same requirement and would be glad to get a solution.
    Thanks in advance

  • New  discussion category request -- Applescript & Automator

Dear Administrators, Jay T. et. al,
I think it would be a nice addition to the Aperture Discussion if you added a new sub-category for us: Applescript & Automator.
Scripting and automation will be a big part of Aperture's future success. It will make it easier for us propeller heads to monitor developments it we have a dedicated category we can subscribe too. I won't subscribe to the entire General Usage cagegory because there would be to much daily traffic on unrelated topics.
I don't think this will prevent the general audience from seeing interesting posts on these topics.

It would be nice to have a good location for more technical posts along those lines. Don't let the lack of one stop you though!

  • Could This (new discussion format) Be Any Worse?

I've been participating in the Apple support forums for a good many years. They have been very useful and I've supplied a number of useful support answers. But now it's pretty much all gone. It's very difficult to find specific things and it's now impossible to see, at a glance, how many people have both viewed and replied to individual threads. That's critical for identifying big issues--especially those that accompany a signficiant operating system upgrade. Further, the text is so large that much less information can be displayed on a computer display. Finally, when you go to Apple Support your display is completely taken up by big square blocks--can you say "Windows R/T?" I guess all good things come to an end.
The best that Apple Discussions ever was was two changes ago. The previous iteration was tolerable even though it was confusing for newbies.

    Doctor9fan,
You said (formatting is mine for comments in context):
On a personal note the problems for me are as follows:can't see which are new posts or which have been updated,
This frustrated me as well.My workaround, oddly enough, is eMail Client, eMail Foldering, eMail Rules and eMail Notifications from here.
    WorkFlow goes like this:
    Turn on eMail notifications (duh)
    Follow posts (ditto duh)
To organize latest replies, In eMail Client,
    create Inbox folders to taste
create rules to sort incoming mail into tasty folders
    sort views to taste
    read the post
if I wanna reply, click link that jumps to the post on the page ( do my replying)
I choose to delete the email, which
    selects the next email automatically
    repeat 3.1 - 3.7 until
    el finito
    You continued:
now the pages have a 'more' button while this seems a positive step if you read a post & then go back to the discussions list it doesn't go back to the page/post you were viewing so you have to click on 'more' again which gives you a new set of posts rather than the ones you were originally looking at.
Command + Click & Command + W are my best friends
    From Ian's User Tip - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7311
    - From  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6414838
    (This my workaround - CCC)
PROBLEM: When I use the 'View More' button, then the browser 'Back' button, then 'View More' again, I do not get the next oldest page but an older one. This makes viewing older posts very cumbersome.
Click the 'View More' as many times as you want, yielding a really long list.
Use that page as kind of a Base Camp.
Instead of a plain Click on a link and BrowserBack to navigate, try command Click to open a new tab with the target link.
When done, close the Tab - and you are back where you started.
The link you command Clicked will likely be Underlined to remind which you clicked.
You may even find that you like this better. I like the idea of a Base Camp. We can go 'Home'.
    Also, you continued:
The only positive is that now there's no delay when typing a message.
I find just the opposite is often true for me. There are times when the previous sentence I just keyed may take 30 seconds to draw!
I think, it has to do with AutoSave feature, but can't prove it. I VERY often get this alert - I mean VERY OFTEN
Aside: The thing lasts 5 seconds. By the time I attend to it and start to read, it disappears. The link is DEAD. Nuthin. Nada. [Close] is DEAD. Ditto.
It is only after these start, that only sometimes the slow draw of keystrokes follows.
A handful of times, the [Save Reply] does nothing. Actual Post of Reply is hit and miss. I first copied my post before trying reload => Reply again, but AutoSave appears to actually work often enough to Restore when doing so. I have been rolling the dice since Restore has been working and not copying. so far so good I guess
[Restore] and [Delete] anomalies are for a post I will start later, after I can make some sense of them.
Hope the Tip(workaround, actually) and workarounds help.
Ian's whole User Tip has some neat tricks

  • I dont like the new Discussions at all!

I don’t know about you all but the new Apple Discussions is confusing! I mean why the heck can't we have custom icons? I mean I feel like a level 1 again. Can we get the old one back? The old Apple Discussions was inviting to use and easy but the new one is kind of a turn off. Well that’s is just my 2cents. More to add- And why can't I post more then once every 30 second?
    Terry
PS. what happen to spell check?

"I remember the last big change from a few (?) years ago."
Then, no doubt, you'll remember the extensive and painful issues WRT responsiveness that that "upgrade" caused. There were ongoing problems for several months, all due to the platform the Boards were running on (Web Crossing, now retired with this newest rollout).
"Now, I'll end up on a blank white page after I hit Post Message!"
This is a known bug that the sysops are working to resolve. It did not happen on the trial version of this new system that was in testing a couple of weeks ago.
