Brand New 27" Imac Bootcamp and XP SP2

I just purchased an Imac 27" this afternoon. I was planning on playing Aion on it, so I used an old Windows XP SP2 disk. Windows seemed to have installed fine, and I managed to get the Ethernet adapter working, but the problem I'm having is that most everything with this Imac is not recognized by XP, so I have a TON of unidentified devices under device manager. I downloaded the Catalyst driver set for the ATI radeon HD 4850 that this computer has, and installed them, but it still doesn't recognize it and is using standard VGA drivers.
I tried using the disk "Applications Install DVD" that came with it, hoping it would have some of the drivers, but it doesn't even show up in XP. The guy at the Mac store said that this computer wouldn't have any problems running with XP and I'm getting a little frustrated with it tonight, so I hope someone can answer this question fairly quickly so I can stop worrying about it.
Is there something I'm missing to just copy all the drivers over? Or would it just be easier to go out and get a copy of Windows 7 to throw on here.

From Apple's FAQ: To install the drivers, insert the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD immediately after successfully installing Microsoft Windows. The installer should start automatically. You only need to install these drivers once.

I would not install any drivers that do not come from Apple because even though the hardware may be made by a specific vendor, the drivers you download do not take into account other features or roms on the Mac Logic Board or Video card.
Apple has not released official drivers for Windows 7 at this time. They said they would by the end of 2009, but apparently they've let the date slip. Oh well, Microsoft waited a few years before releasing the product itself...
WinXP SP2 and up is supported by Apple and BootCamp and drivers that are specific to Apple hardware.
It's kind of a shame that you bought a Mac to run Windows though...

Note: At this time BootCamp doesn't support 3TB drives - this is due to a memory allocation issue with Windows. Check out this article on a/an (unreliable) work around. I say unreliable because some people are reporting success and others failure. At this time if you really need Windows it probably would be better to use virtualization software like Parallels, VMWare, or VirtualBox.

I just bought a brand new Cannon GL2 camcorder and I am trying to import some video footage into Final Cut Pro version 5.01. Whenever I put up the Log and Capture screen and turn my camcorder on the computer starts to think(the spinning color wheel) and not let me do anything else not even press play unless I completely turn the camcorder off again which defeats the whole purpose of me even importing footage. I don't understand why the Log and Capture screen won't let me import any video my old Sony Digital Hi8 was importing just fine a day ago, but now that I bumped up to the GL2 for some reason the Log and Capture screen isn't doing it's job so well by the computer starting to think(the spinning color wheel) instead of working. I have used the Cannon GL1 in the past and it worked like a charm. So I don't understand why the GL2 wouldn't be any easier? It is just giving me this problem and I don't know wether it's the firewire bus or what? Can someone please help me with my dilemma?

Ha...ha..very funny...but ah yeah from reading other posts on the "Canon" GL2 I figured out that you can't have multiple devices plugged into the firewire bus at the same time while you're importing video into Final Cut Pro. That's a HUGE bummer...thanks guys for your help you where fast and reliant. But now I have another problem my internal hard drive only has 4 GB out of 75 GB and my applications take up at least 40 GB of space. How am I going to connect my 600 GB external hard drive to the computer and import footage at the same time? Can you guys help me with this now?

I don't know enough to not follow directions. I bought the software brand new in a sealed from factory box. Had it sitting around until - last week when I deleted flash on my computer and had to upgrade to the new OSX. Mountain Lion doesn't use iPhoto - so I had to go with something else. Since I already had this new - unopened package I opened it up. Shut down all running programs - inserted the disk and followed all the directions for installation. Still it didn't work.
I have now uninstalled it (the proper way) and am going to try again.

That's not a reset pin. There is no reset hole in which to poke it. Neither is there a reset button. It is the SIM removal tool. If you had it, it would save you the agony of finding a paper clip.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Community. I'd like to help you with the installation and printing issues you are having with your HP Laserjet Pro M201dw, on your Windows 8.1 operating system. I can certainly understand your frustration, it seems like you have attempted the install multiple times. First, I'd recommend running the Print and Scan Doctor, to see if it can resolve any errors in the software without having to re-install. If it does prompt you to re-install your software, I would suggest uninstalling all M201dw software from the Programs section of your control panel. Once that's done, do a cleanboot of your computer. You can find instructions to complete the cleanboot here: How to perform a clean boot in Windows Note: This will turn off all non-essential startup items, so if it's another program on your computer that is causing the installation to lag, it should resolve the install issue. Rather than installing from the download or the CD that came with the printer, I'd suggest downloading and running the HP Printer Install Wizard. My friend and his wife own an accounting practice with 4 staff.
They use IRIS Accountancy Practice Software, which itself uses the latest SQL Server technology and Microsoft Windows XP.
He has a PC at home, which his wife uses to work on the office system.
He needs to replace a PC and is attracted to the iMac for home – attractive, space saving, etc.
He is not technical and relies 100% on third party support who also supply his PC’s.
IRIS and the support company say the IRIS software will not run on Apple.
I have tried to persuade them that with an iMac, Bootcamp and Microsoft Windows XP he will be running IRIS on a PC not on an Apple. Am I correct?
Does anybody have experience (good or bad) of such a set up?
Is the iMac with Bootcamp and XP, 100% a PC? This is a business decision and he will not buy the iMac without 100% confidence.

MacBook Pro was rated as one of the top three Vista laptops and supports 64-bit versions.
I think running on Apple meant "doesn't run on PowerPC" actually, and there are programs of course that aren't ported to OS X.
A lot of IT organizations run servers as virtual environment to better use idle resources and lower costs. Apple's Xserve is often used for running Windows 2008 or any other flavor.
You might even want to look at VMware products and run XP inside OS X.
You can't run OS X as a VM except in OS X server, which is a shame, great for testing.
Your iMac is Intel Mac.
Compaq was one of the first, along with a German company, to provide "100% IBM Compatible" ISA hardware. Eventually, it became "PC" rather than the longer name, microprocessor (with mini and mainframe being the other two main architectures).

Adobe Premiere crashes brand new 27" imac!

What is it with Adobe and letting their customers pay big bucks for software that doeasnt work.
Why do you guys let the customer pay for the research and development?
Can you imagine what its like sitting in front of a computer for 8hrs a day that you are unable to use.
How do I explain to the boss why im sitting bone idle 8hrs a day for coming up to 6 weeks now after he's
just blown £5000!!!! on crap that doesnt work!!!!! Ive spend near 4hrs on the phone to adobe with no one
having any sense of urgency or the need to keep their customers happy!!! My estimation of adobe has
gone from the filmakers best friend to biggest waste of time on earth! Adobe wont even offer any compensation!!!
I am completely disgusted. Just try to imagine what its like sitting infront of
£2800 worth of software and that I cant even START on the work load I have. This is the single
most frustrating and rediculous thing ive experienced.

I have purchased CS5 Master Collection on brand new IMac i7 solid state hard drive
Premiere causes the mac to instantly crash in a very random irregular manner, never the same thing.
I can work for a little while, import files and play from timeline, but its so unstable that if you click on anything,
it instantly kills the machine, completely dead. other times it blacks out the screen and continues to play the
audio but no control over the machine at all, even after the audio stops, i have to force quit the mac.
Other times the mac info screen appears saying you have to hold down the power key to kill it.
sometimes it doesnt crash for several mintues and then bang!
Ive have had many online conferences on adobe connect with several kind and professional adobe personnel for whom Im
most greatful, allbeit , it has taken way too long to get anywhere with this issue and adobe.
Ive spend hours following a very long list of fixes; permssion repair and preference delete etc etc.
but still no service.

Dead Pixels on brand new 24" iMac

I picked up my 24" 2.8GHz, 1GB Ram, 320GB HDD iMac on Friday the 22/02/08, and the first thing I noticed was a few dead pixels. There is a green one in the top left, one in the middle/right top and what seems like a clump of about 2 or 3 in the middle of the screen. I am very annoyed, I paid alot of extra money for a 'Premium Mac.' I will not settle for just letting this go.
So, what is the warranty/general rule for pixels?
Will they replace it gladly? Or say there isn't enough missing pixels?
This is a brand new fresh out of the box Mac. If they refuse to replace it I will just return it because I'm not satisfied with the quality.
Is there a time period in which I can return an iMac because I don't think it is good quality?
P.S. I love my iMac! But seeing it with such a defection is breaking my heart, this is my baby!!!

The policy on pixels varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but one thing is consistent: none of which I am aware have a zero defect rule. Most companies look at three different factors: location, clustering, and number. A couple dead pixels clusters in the middle of the screen tends to be regarded as more serious then a couple dead pixels clustered on the edge. A moderate number of pixels scattered about the screen is considered less serious still. All you can do is 1) first deal with the local dealer and if that fails, 2) try dealing with corporate.
BTW, if you do a search on fix dead pixels, dead pixels, and dead lcd pixels, you'll find there are a lot of programs that claim to do just that. In general, I've seen more success with stuck pixels being fixed (they are always on) rather than unlit pixels, but I've even seen them revived on occasion through the use of these programs.

Brand new 27" iMac will not sleep

I have a brand new iMac 27" and it will not sleep. It just turns itself back on again.
I have the same hardware peripherals as I did on my 20" iMac.
I tried the energy settings, shutting off the wireless mouse, and I still can't get it to sleep.
I have read I can shut down "processes" but I'm afraid to as I don't know which ones to shut down and I don't want to mess up the system.

EDIT: I just tried to make it sleep by using a schedule and it worked. It stayed asleep. So what do you think?

Try holding down command-option-P-R at boot time. Let it chime. Keep holding the keys down until it chimes again, and then release them, and see if it boots OK.
If that doesn't work, then power it off again, unplug it from the wall, wait 30 seconds, plug it in and try.
If that doesn't work, then reboot it, hold down command-R at boot, and try to get to the recovery partition. If you do, launch Disk Utility and try and verify the disk.

Brand new 20" iMac won't recognize Ethernet cable - can't get online

I just got my iMac and cannot get the ethernet cable to recgonize. I know it works b/c I'm using it this very moment to type this on my Powerbook. When I plug it into the PB, I get the yellow,then the green once it connects. However, when I plug it into the iMac, I get nothing. I thought maybe I needed to configure Built-In Ethernet, but it won't let me select configure or connect. The assistant won't recognize it either. I posted in the Tiger forum mistakenly, but thought this forum would be more appropriate. This is what I posted (for more detail):
I just unboxed my new iMac and can't get on the internet (I'm on my powerbook). The problem is this; in Network, it says "The cable for Built-In Ethernet is not plugged in." Only, it is. Can't be the cable b/c that's the cable I'm connected with right now. So, I go through "assist me" and when I click on "Assistant" it takes me to the Intro page where I'm supposed to give a Location Name. I do this, calling it "home." The ver next screen, after clicking "continue" takes me to "How do you connect to the internet?" The problem here is that, of the 5 options, only one is selectable. Airport is the only one that can be selected?? "I use a telephone modem to dial my ISP" as well as "DSL Modem/Cable/Lan" are all greyed out..they cannot be selected. I use an ethernet cable. Why is this not able to be selected? It's very frustrating. I've turned off Airport and Bluetooth, yet I still cannot check any of these. I need to check "I use a cable modem to dial my ISP" but I can't b/c it won't allow me. Can anyone help me here? I can't use my brand new iMac and it's kind of a bummer. I thought these things were plug and play? Thank

Well I tried that and nothing. I'm completely stumped. I have no idea why this is happening. And it's weird b/c, everytime I'm jumping back on here, I'm just unhooking the ethernet cable from the iMac and plugging it into my PB. And, nearly immediately, i'm up and running, connected with the PB. How can it work on the PB and not on the iMac? And why would those options be grayed out on the iMac? It's like it just refuses to let me check them and/or configure. That is very weird.
