Brand new 30 GB iPod frozen

I followed the steps...installed the software and plugged in my brand new iPod which was functioning before I plugged it in but then it TOTALLY FROZE and has been this way for three hours. I have tried to reset my brand new iPod about 20 times but nothing seems to help it from being frozen on the menu page. I have read others have had this issue but resetting is not helping me...help, help, help please? I was so stoked when I opened this gift but now I am soooo sad!!!

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Do you mean you plugged it into your computer or into an electrical outlet?
If into your computer, were you using USB?
Have you made sure that the hold switch is in the off, rather than on, position? This might be the source of your problem.
Hope this helps.

  • My Brand New Refurbished Ipod Touch is not working

I just bought a brand new refurbished Ipod touch 32GB (current generation), after a week it shows flickering white screens. I seldom used it for the whole week. When I went to apple service centre they told me that the water leak indicator turns into purple colour supposedly white. I ask them, how this thing can happen, because honestly I was always keep it safe and never been contact to any liquid or soak into water. Then I went to another service centre to get second thought – same feedback was given to me. The warranty was void because of the water leak indicator turns into purple colour.
Anyone can help me to resolve my case? Honestly, I seldom used my Ipod touch, never been contact with water and it was always safely kept. Maybe there is some problem down the factory line, why it was refurbished? What is the history of this iPod touch? Maybe from there, something can help me that can prove that is the original problem of this iPod touch.

i also got a refurb Touch. luckily, mine works as expected.
a refurb enjoys the same warranty as a new one. take yours to an Apple store near you and have it replaced.

  • I have a brand new 8gb iPod touch 4g which has 0.43gb of other data right out of the box.

I have a brand new 8gb iPod touch 4g which has 0.43gb of other data before I've even put anything on it.I appreciate the OS takes up about 1.5gb, but this is in addition to that. There is absolutely nothing on the iPod and I've already done a factory reset.
The amount of yellow "other" data seems to go up and down if I click sync (although it is not syncing anything). There is no other data on the device. Is this normal?

That is about right.  Normally it is about 1/2 GB.  If can grow because of corrupt files.  Then it is necessary to restore the iPod sometimes from backup works but sometimes a restore to factory defaults/new iPod is required.  The other is made of ite items that do not fit the other categories listed.

  • Band new 5G Ipod Frozen before I could do anything!

My new 5G ipod is an hour old and Frozen on the main screen (music/photos/videos/extras etc.). I loaded the new version of Itunes that came with the ipod onto my PC. I connected the ipod and bam- frozen. Now my PC won't recognize the usb device and I am dean in the water. I tried reset - nothing. I didn't even get a chance to format it to windows. It is just locked up.
Yes my pc is compatible. In Fact I had a 20 Gig color ipod that worked flawlessly. Uhg. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

My 5G did the same thing. It was stuck on the "select a language screen" when I first connected to my PC (Windows). I called Apple and they fixed it in 5 minutes. To get the iPod unfrozen, I switched the Hold button on and off 6 times. Then I held the Menu Button and the Center Button down simultaneously for about 15 seconds until the screen went black and the Apple icon appeared. When I turned it back on, my computer recognized it and went automatically into iTunes for the download process. Has worked well since.
Hope this helps...really hope at this point you have already gotten it to work. My happened and I was steaming until I got it fixed about 4 hours later.

  • Brand New Replacement Ipod Touch

This is really basic. I think I know the answer anyway, but I thought I'd ask just to check. I got a brand new replacement 4th gen ipod touch today. I just brought it home and haven't done anything to it yet. This is actually my 3rd replacement. The previous one I had received from the Apple store came inside the plastic casing the same as if you were to purchase it. The one I received today still had that thin plastic peel protector around it but I just wasn't given the case it would go in. They just gave me a brand new ipod like that. My previous ipod was last backed up a few days ago in my itunes. With this new one, would I have to synch it just like a new one or would there be anyway to transfer anything that had been backed up? As I said, this is really basic but I'm not very familiar with Apple products. I just know how to use an ipod.
Also, a seperate question but since it's been a while since I last had a brand new ipod, should I be leaving it to charge or something before using it or... What exactly should I do?

    - Follow these instructions:
iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
    - I doubt it is new. You will only get a new one if they do not have any refurbished one available. The refurbished ones include a new back and new battery. If new it will come in a brown box, not like a retail new one.
    - Just charge untill it is fully charged and then use it.

  • Brand New 8Gb iPod: Available Space = 7.43Gb

I just plugged in my brand new iPod, supposedly with 8Gb of memory available. Now I understand if some memory is chewed up by software/firmware etc, and that some 'rounding errors' show up with memory scaling. However, I find it hard to believe that there is over 500Mb 'missing' from the iPod. That's 7.125% loss of space, 7.43Gb out of 8.00Gb.
So my question overall is... is this normal and expected, or do I have a particulary unhappy set of flash memory? Are there any steps that should be taken, or is this a 'just eat it and be happy' kind of thing?
    Thanks for the help,
    -R

    It's normal.
The OS accounts for a few mbs of storage space.
It's the way that storage space is calculated by manufacturers, and the way that computers read it differently.
Read this. Although it refers to hard drives (and the nano has flash memory), the calculations are the same, and that accounts for the so called "missing space". The decimal/binary difference affects all types of storage including both hard drives and flash memory.
iPod: About the hard disk size.
Hard disk: Is it missing space?
This is the excellent explanation by forum member Rich Fleming.
<quote> "The Flash in the Nano needs to emulate a hard disk, so that any computer it is attached to sees it as a valid storage device.
When you are using a DoM type of storage system, the Flash memory will behave exactly like a hard drive, and is subject to the exact same Binary vs Decimal discrepancy in the capacity measurements.
A 4GB Nano is 4 billion bytes (decimal 4,000,000,000) of storage... according to the operating system. This is because the operating system doesn't see it as a Flash memory. It sees it as an actual hard drive.
As such, 4 billion bytes to the operating system is reported as about 3.7GB of storage because of the decimal-to-binary conversion." <end of quote>

  • 1 iPod Touch, 1 iPod Nano (Brand New) & 2 iPod Classics Not Reconized

    Hi,
I have 1 iPod Touch, 2 iPod Classic & 1 iPod Nano (brand new one)
Since the iTunes V9 update none of them will show up in Windows or iTunes.
I have tryed the 5 R's, wiping everything off the computer and reinstalling it, reinstalling iTunes and more!
    Still nothing
Have any of you had the same problem and managed to solve it ??
    Thanks in advance

Sorry, I followed both guides and uninstalled everything - rebooted, reinstalled iTunes like your second link instructions said.
PC sees all devices fine in Windows Explorer (and makes the pling sound when I connect them, they just do not show up in iTunes.
(ipod nano, ipod touch 32GB, iphone 1st gen, ipad 1st gen)
Manually starting or restarting all itunes/ipod related services doesn't do a thing either, nothing will sync.
    I'm at a loss.

  • Brand New 80GB Ipod connects on and off with my usb cable

hi, i just got a new 80gb ipod for xmas, and when i plug the usb cable to my ipod, it connects sometimes, and sometimes doesnt, and when it does, it disconnects sometimes too, i usually have to keep moving into different usb ports and one will work, then not work again, then work again later. i even tried my friends cable and its the same thing, i think somethings wrong with the port in the ipod, can anyone help ?

Turn it off.  If it got wet somehow, you may try drying your ipod off.  The slow method would be a sunny window sill.  You could use a hair dryer on LOW, pointing it at the contacts.  When it drys out, charge itand try a hard-reset. If it still doesn't function properly....  ?

  • How can I make my brand new 160GB iPod Classic work?

I bought a 160GB Ipod Classic in January and have just tried to use it for the first time and it has been a disaster! I have spent hours trying to use it and failed. I have been using iTunes for some time now and have recently successfully set up Squeezebox to use the iTunes music I have uploaded from my CDs.
All started well - my system recognised the new hardware and iTunes started. I registered and said I wanted to synch my music and my photos and away it went. After 2-3GB of uploads I got an error saying
"The Owner's iPod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." On pressing 'OK' it then said I'd got an unknown error. Pressing 'OK' again took me back to the first error message. I then tried everything I coould including relaoding iTunes and eventually got it started again. This time it got up to about 8GB (of about 10.5GB) before abending in the same way. Since then I have failed to take another step forward in many hours.
When I connect the iPod to my PC sometimes it appears briefly in 'My Compter' then disappears. Then the errors loop thus:-
START:The iPod itself says "Connected" the a few seconds later it says "Ejecting"
The device manager has a USB Mass Storage Device with an exclamation mark on a yellow background which then says
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for'safe removal' but it has not been removed from the computer (code 47). To fix this problem, unplug the device from your computer and then plug it in again"
Doing this the causes the process to sytart again from START above.
On one occasion only, after a few hours trying, I got a message "Your iPod need to be reformatted to work with Windows" and it opened up iTunes and then sat and did nothing.
Running the diagnostics in iTunes says "No iPod found". The diagnostic information is set out below:

Have solved my own problem. My PC sits on the floor so I have a four-port USB hub on my desktop with one port in use. I use one of the other three ports for USB-related task. As I was shutting down for the night I had a - what turned out to be inspired - thought about whether there was an adequate power supply from the hub. I then tried the iPod USB connection directly into the front of my machine and everything worked. It seems that an inadequate power supply was the cause of this strange set of conditions.

  • Error 1418 on BRAND NEW Video ipod - Only 48 hours old!

    Hi,
Just upgraded from a click wheel ipod to a new 80GB video Ipod. Installed itunes 7.02 and everything worked fine. Last night got the message saying an update was avaliable for my ipod so I clicked update and since then I get the following messages
    1. The ipod could not be read from or written to.
    2. The ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored
    3. Unknown error - 1418
    I have tried
    1. 5r's
    2. Reformat through windows
The ipod now says it is corrupt and needs to be restored through itunes but itunes only returns the 1418 message.
I have googled this to death and there seems to be alot of issues with the new firmware. I am really annoyed as I havent even had chance to listen to my music yet and ive spent alot of money on it.
Any one have any ideas please, any other Video users had a similar problem after the firmware update?
    Thanks

The link works for me. However, here's the post.
iTunes7 & 5th gen iPod updating - is this possible solution? (winXP)

Downloaded iTunes 7 and you've gone through the 5 R's until your red in the face?
    * This probable solution 'stumbled upon' using a 60GB video. I have no idea if the process will work the same for nano. But if your desperate and have backed up your library... full steam ahead.
If you've noticed that your iPod does not show up in My Computer, but shows up in iTunes, and the new Update or Restore option within iTunes (Summary tab of a recognized iPod) doesn't work (choosing 'Update' gives you error 1417 and 'Restore' gives you error 1418 - whatever they mean) then give this a try:
    1. Restart your computer - just to make sure we're all on the same page
    2. Start up/Load iTunes
    3. Connect your iPod to your computer - it may take a little time for iTunes to connect to your device
    4. When the dialogue box pops up telling you that a new version of firmware (ver. 1.2) is available choose: INSTALL
    5. As iTunes shows you a progressive bar of 'installing' (the bar scrolls across again and again) use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option in your taskbar and stop "Apple iPod USB Device". The computer will then tell you that the device can now be removed
    6. "Installing" continues... plug in/connect iPod again. The "Install" continues like nothing's happened. Weird, huh?
    7. Apple logo and Update status bar should now appear on your dimmed iPod screen (because of no backlight)
    8. At this point, dialogue box pops up on computer to tell you that updating continues
    9. "Do Not Disconnect" symbol will then show on your iPod
    10. Process finishes after a time, and now the Summary tab says the iPod has been updated.
HA!!! If this is all that troubles you - HUZZAH! And I hope this helped.
Now that we've come this far... I've found that when I normally open iTunes and plug in my iPod to aunto-sync, I now get ERROR (-50) -> Mac needs to get a database online or something to tell me what these 'errors' mean so I don't freak out when I get one...
    1. Go BACK to the Summary tab or your recognized deive in iTunes. Now choose RESTORE. Make sure whatever is on your iPod can be replaced
    2. This part takes time
    3. Computer will pop with dialogue box saying that iPod is restored and being changed to factory settings
    4. Prompt then pops up for you to name your little iPod. At this stage you can choose to 'Auto-sync songs and vids when connected' or 'Auto-sync photos' and from which directory. It's up to you.
    5. iTunes will then thank you for registering your iPod. From this point, the files are copied to your device. Depending on how large your library is affects how long this process takes.

  • Brand new 160gb ipod classic - Stuck on charge "Please wait..."

Unpacked my new ipod classic about 2 hours ago and connected it to my iMac to charge.
It is stuck on the "Charging, Please Wait.." screen.
I have already reset it numerous times, tried different usb cables, usb ports, plugged it into the wall and nothing...

Well I left it charging over night and still the same result
    "Charging...Please Wait"
I guess back to the store it goes.

  • Brand new N73 is frozen solid

I have resently purchased a new N73 from T-Mobile (through contract ) . Unfortunately after 5 weeks the phone is now frozen . All I get when I switch the phone on is the back-light and the blue nokia symbol . Also , clock and date is working and showing when phone is not in use .
But I am unable to connect to the main menue or any other menues or procedures . I have contacted Nokia support and after trying several procedures they sugest taking the phone to a Nokia outlet . Also , T-mobile have informed me that I cannot receive a new replacement phone as I informed them of the problem them 3 days after the 4 week deadline.
Then main issue I have is that I have some important medical photos on the phone and have been told by both Nokia and T-Mobile that they cannot guarantee that my photos will be saved if the phone is fixed . Infact T-mobile have informed me that the liklihood is that photos will be lost .
Will appreciate if anybody can give me some advice on how I can somehow save/recover my photos before getting phone fixed . I have tried using Nokia PC Suite through a USB connection on my Dell laptop but no luck . I should also add that the phones memory was almost full ( I was getting warning messages ) when this problem occurred .
Thanks for any help/info that you can provide .

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Brand New White iPod Touch Sound Distortion

As title. I've literally just received my new iPod Touch, synced it fine and when I play any song, there is dreadful distortion. It's definitely not the Headphones as I've just tested on both my Classic and iPhone to which the same song sound fine.

Me and my brother each bought a mini ipod today, and we both have the same problem. the ipods are skipping parts of songs and getting stuck, like a cd player does when the cd is scratched. please help!

  • Brand New 160GB Ipod Classic Not Responding to USB 2.0 connections Why?

I bought it online from Apple as a Christmas gift back in September. It charged succesfully using a wall charger but when connected to Windows PC's and Laptops(also running windows)neither computer recognized the Ipod as a connected device. The Ipod itself did nothing when connected. It showed no error screen nor did it begin to charge as most do when you connect them to a PC. What is seen on the screen is all the different menus you have to choose from like music, video and what not. All the stuff your supposed to see. I have no idea why it is not being regoznied by any PC unless it is incompatable with USB ports. If that's the case what am I to do about it? Aside from not connecting to PC's it appears to be working fine. The preloaded games play as they should and it does nothing out of the ordianary. Wall chargers work with it but attempted connections to PC's with USB 2.0 ports garner no response from the device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had difficulty making my 160GB Ipod classic recognized as a device by my PC. I pushed and held down the menu and cener buttons for a bout 5 seconds. The apple logo appeared and ever since then my computer sees it as a device and it works as it should.
