Brand new 5s- sometimes phone numbers display when receiving calls and texts instead of contact name. Hard to know who is calling/texting! A few times I've tapped on the text message icon and I can actually watch as the conversations turn from showing just numbers to the contact names. Same thing when looking at call history and voice mail- sometimes it shows numbers and then I'll go back and the contacts will be back. So frustrating!

You don't dial *228 to update the Preferred Roaming List on 4G phones; I"m surprised the call went through. The PRL updates are handled by the SIM card.
Try this and see if it helps: turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, and wait a few minutes. Then re-insert the SIM card, turn the phone back on, and give the phone a few minutes to re-establish a network connection.

On some emails and websites phone numbers appear for a second or two and then disappear. If I reload the email or website, the number again appears for a second or two and then disappears. This doesn't happen when I open that same email or website in Internet Explorer.
Do you have Skype installed, I have seen similar reports about Skype causing this. Skype include a "number highlighting" option, and it may be malfunctioning and hiding the numbers instead of highlighting them. If that does not help, try the procedure in the [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article, this is likely to be caused by an extension/theme issue. -
All of a sudden all of my contacts as displayed on my iPhone have lost their formatting. So the numbers all read as 1234567890 instead of (123) 456-7890. And, what's worse, is when I go to the texting app, all of my texts are still there, but instead of showing me the contact name, all I see are the unformatted phone numbers of where they came from.
Any ideas on why? It's a Verizon iPhone 4S. This lack of formatting is not showing up on my Mac nor my iPad. Would a re-sync fix this? I'd hate to have a re-sync screw up the info on my computer and pad, though...
RockI too am having the same problem, and use the *228 then killing all my open apps solution to bring my numbers back to the correct format. However, as just a one time fix, I keep on getting the same problem again after a few weeks, and last week, after a few days of doing the *228 fix. Does anyone know what is causing this problem on Verizon iPhones? As a point of information, I was previously on AT&T with my iPhones until my wife transferrred me over to Verizon (on her business account because she wanted to surprise me with a new iPhone 4S).

Brand New Pavilion DV7 Shut down twice when first started, and keeps shutting down for no reason
The problem I have with my new HP Dv7 is it keeps shutting down. This can't be due to over heating as when I first switched it on and went through the setup process it restarted twice. Took me three attempts to get just past the registration section.
Reading on the forum pages it looks like quite a few people have had the same problem. Is there a software fix/update to solve this problem? or do I have a faulty laptop?

MarcPlease identify your notebook/pc with more than the series number. Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc at the barcoded sticker. Post items numbered 1 and 2 on the following image.
Post the installed operating system version ( and whether it is 32 or 64-bit)

My sound has recently gone on my iphone4s, this only happens when I use my phone myself. The sound works when i receive a call or a message etc but I am unable to watch videos or play music, the sound also doesn't work on games. Please can anyone help with this issue or let me know how to fix it if experienced the same problem?
Remove all apps from multitasking bar. Double click Home button then tap and hold an icon and tap on little x on every app. Then reset. Hold down Home and Power button until Apple logo appears.

Phone not vibrating when being called or texted
Ringer is on silent and when a test or call comes in it doesn't vibrate. I have it set to vibrate on Ring and vibrate on Silent.
Do you have "Do not disturb" enabled in the Settings?
If not, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Appel logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting. -

I googled this problem and lots of folks have experienced it, however there is not a consensus for a resolution.
Alexandribill, I have been having the exact same issue. I got a new phone and restored my contacts. If the # doesn't have the area code first then the name isn't shown. I just added my husbands area code to my phone and called my phone from his and now his name shows up...Ugh, I have to go through and manually add the area code to all my contacts....
I'd say Verizon needs to rewrite their program to include the area code in the restoring from backup process! -
My iPhone recently broke so I was sent a brand new iPhone to replace it, however, since receiving this phone, I cannot access anything which was previously backed up onto iCloud from my last iPhone. Please help me!
If you are trying to restore to an iCloud backup, this has to be done during the initial setup process. If your phone is already set up, you will have to go back to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content & Settings, then go back through the setup screens again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below). Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to complete.
Also, your replacement phone must be running the same iOS version or higher to restore to your backup. If you are running an older version of iOS than the device that was backed up, your backup will not be visible when you choose to restore to your iCloud backup. If this is the case, you'll have to update your replacement phone first. -

I messed up badly by trying to restore my brand new macbook pro by doing restart then command R and choose disc utility repair now when I start ,all I get is the white screen with a folder and a question mark,What can I do???help please
Can you still boot to the Recovery partition using Command and R whilst booting? Or did you wipe the Recovery partition as well?
If your Recovery partition is still intact, you can simply boot to it and reinstall the OS via the Internet. If you wiped the Recovery partition, you can hold down Command, option and R keys whilst booting and boot into true Internet Recovery mode. You'll be able to reformat the hard drive, erasing all partitions (format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a dingle GUID partition) and then reinstall the OS that shipped with your machine.
Note that you should use a physical Ethernet connection when restoring over the Internet - it's three times slower if you use wifi.
Try your Recovery partition first and if that doesn't work, use Internet Recovery.

She needs to deactivate iMessage on her device and the re-activate using the correct number.

Yes 10.8.2 is the latest version of Mountain Lion. 10.7 was Lion and 10.6 was Snow Leopard.
