BRAND NEW Airport Extreme Wont Connect to Internet

I'm trying to set up my AEBS and I run the wizard and everything checks out ok, then when the router restarts it says that I do not have a valid IP address and that it is looking for my PPPoE host.
I connect directly to my DSL modem via the Ethernet cable that WAS in my WAN port and it works fine, so I know my modem is fine.
Any suggestions?

Try changing from PPoE to "Ethernet" set Configure IPv4 to "DHCP"
This is done in AirPort Utility (manual setup)>Internet

My new aiport extrem wontconnect tomy time warner cable modem

Have you power cycled the modem for long enough to deregister the previous client/router MAC address.. it can take 20min or longer off time. If the cable modem is also a router then the AE has to be in bridge mode.
Sometimes there are connection issues.. modem to WAN port of the AE..
Exactly what modem do you have?
Are the connectivity lights on when you plug in ethernet?

  • New Airport Extreme only connected with N protocol

I just got a brand new Airport Extreme. I disabled wifi on my verizon fios router, plugged in the ethernet, and went through the Airport's setup. I'm connected on all my devices and the range is so much better, but it doesn't seem like my MBP has connected using AC. Below, I have included some information about my computer and the router. Could anyone advise me on how to connect using AC? Do I need to do anything other than the default setup? I noticed in advanced options on the router, that 5ghz is not enabled by default? Also, I'm sitting about 10 feet from the router with no obstructions.
    My Computer:
Model Name: MacBook Pro, Late 2013
      Processor Name: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
    My Airport Extreme:
Card Type: AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0x134)
    Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (6.30.223.154.65)
    Locale: FCC
      Country Code: US
      Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
    My Network:
Network Utility Link Speed: 217 MBit/sec
    PHY Mode: 802.11n
      Channel: 1
      Country Code: US
      Network Type: Infrastructure
      Security: WPA2 Personal
      Signal / Noise: -41 dBm / -92 dBm
      Transmit Rate: 156
      MCS Index: 21

5ghz wireless is in fact working.. but the Mac is setup to connect to the strongest signal not the fastest.. so you have actually connected to 2.4ghz N wireless..
The way to fix this is simple.. change the wireless name for 5ghz in wireless options of airport utility.. ie.
Make the name short and sweet.. no spaces.. no apostrophe.. just simple.
Mine doesn't show as much because I refuse to buy the AC model..
But you can make sure your country is set correctly.. and all the rest can be left on auto.
Then in the laptop force the connection to AE5ghz or whatever you name it.

  • Just bought a brand new Airport Extreme and having trouble with it being recognized. I have a Mac version 10.5.8. Is my computer compatible?  I have the Airport Express now and it works fine.

Just bought a brand new airport extreme and having trouble with it being recognized.  My mac is version 10.5.8.  What should I do?

The new AirPort Extreme needs the 6.x version of AirPort Utility, which comes packed in with Lion 10.7.5 or Mountain Lion 10.8.x......or......you can also configure the device using an iPhone or iPad running a recent iOS.
    From Apple's Specifications:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    A few options.....
Borrow another Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion for 10-15 minutes and set it up. The Mac running 10.5.8 will be able to connect to the wireless....but it will not be able to make any changes to the configuration of the Extreme.
Update to Lion or Mountain Lion.....but check first to make sure that your Mac will support the operating system first.
Use....or borrow an iPhone or iPad to set up the Extreme

  • Brand New Airport Extreme Doesn't Wake the iMac

I have been having MASSIVE problems with Back To My Mac, so I figured the Airport Extreme was the problem, since it was two years old. I replaced it with a brand new one. Now I have two problems: Back To My Mac still doesn't work, and the brand new Airport Extreme cannot wake the iMac.
The iMac has "wake on network access" enabled. The two-year-old Airport Extreme was able to wake the iMac.
What do I need to do to enable this feature on the new Airport Extreme?

No, that doesn't address the problem. The two-year-old Airport Extreme could wake the iMac with either a wireless or an ethernet connection. According to Apple's documentation, if the preferences say "wake on network access" it means both should work, and they used to.
The brand-new Airport Extreme cannot wake the iMac at all. When I installed it, I used the new Airport Utility to copy the settings from the old one. Could it be that some setting necessary for waking the iMac was set incorrectly by this process? If so, how do I correct it?

  • Brand New Airport Extreme and Motorola Surfboard 5101 Connection Dropping

I'm going to add to the chorus and point out that my brand spanking new Airport Extreme continually loses internet connectivity with my Motorola Surfboard 5101 modem (this is used on a Time Warner connection).
Disconnecting the Airport and connecting directly to the modem via ethernet cable works flawlessly as does using my old Linksys router. With the Airport Extreme it will work for a number of hours and then drop the internet connection. Airport Utility shows the Airport Extreme as having a green light while the internet connection has the amber "disconnected" light, but, as I said, cutting the Airport out of the connection leaves my internet connection stable and flawless so it seems the problem is either the Airport or the combination of the two.
So, is the only solution to replace the cable modem with one that works with the Airport? If so, how do I know what will work and what won't?
Should I return the Airport? Get a completely different 802.11ac capable router (which one)? Perhaps there is some arcae setting buried deep in the bowels of one device or the other that needs setting?

It's ok, I got. You have to put in password "BT"    Never had to do that before, but it works....maybe this helps someone else.

  • AirPort Extreme Not Connected to Internet

I have been trying all day to connect a new AirPort Extreme base station. The base station appears to be configured correctly, in that the green indicator light burns solid. But I can't connect to the Comcast Internet: I get an error message that the Ethernet cable is unplugged (it isn't). I've powered down, reset, and restarted the cable modem; and have disconnected and reconnected the power supply to the base station numerous times, but still no Internet. When I reattach the Ethernet cable directly to the Mac everything is fine. I can't tell whether or not the base station is pulling the IP address, etc., from Comcast. Anyway, I'm getting nowhere with this, and would greatly appreciate input from this discussion group. Thanks very much.

Hello driverdude. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Although I know you tried multiple resets, please try the following to see if this will get you Internet connectivity with your Comcast modem ...
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, or until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • New Airport Extreme, Green Light,  No Internet

Trying to get wifi connection so my mom can use her new ipad I bought her for Christmas and so guests can use wifi when they visit. I connected this new airport extreme 802.11n Wi_Fi to their comcast modem. After connecting get green light on airport extreme but now no internet connection on mac desktop computer. Have tried resetting modem, powering off airport and computer... still no internet. Internet works fine using comcast modem but does not connect to internet at all with airport extreme. Help. Extremely frustrated and ready to return this airport extreme.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
It's likely not the AirPort Extreme that is causing your issue. It is the cable modem.
Perhaps you were not aware that a cable modem must be completely reset whenever there is a change in the device that the modem is connected to? Your ISP should have made this clear to you. A good reset often takes 30 minutes or more.
Push the reset button on the modem
Power off the modem for 30 minutes
Pull the battery if it's easily accessible
Power down the AirPort Extreme and your computers
After the wait period, power up the modem first and let it run for 3-4 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Then power up your other devices the same way
Please post back on your results.

  • I have a brand new airport extreme. I just ordered a WD My Book Studio 2TB Mac External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 Can I partition this and use one 1tb as a time capsule and 1tb on my desktop of my mac as a wireless hard drive? If so how?

    How would I do this?

To partition the WD My Book, you could temporarily connect it to your MacBook Pro via USB. Then use the Disk Utility to partition it into two separate partitions of whatever size you choose for each.
Once partitioned and formatted (I would recommend HFS+), you can then disconnect the drive from the MacBook Pro and attach it to the new AirPort Extreme. The Extreme should now "see" the drive as two separate drives. You would then use the AirPort Utility to share out both drives.
For Time Machine, you would just need to select the appropriate shared drive.

  • Airport Extreme wont connect too my router

Airport extreme dosent connect to my router via my ethernet cable, i just get a orange flashing light. Do i need to configure my router?

The ulitity program need to be updated after downloading its all sweet now. I just have too FAT 32 my External HDD and it will be fully operational

  • Cannot get my new AirPort Extreme to connect. Tried everything the manual suggests. Old router works fine.

AirPort Extreme will not connect--have tried everything manual suggests.

With what device will the AirPort Extreme not connect?
What is the make and model number of this device?
If this might be a cable modem, you do know that the modem needs to completely reset before it will communicate with the AirPort Extreme, correct?

  • Airport Extreme wont connect to the internet

I recently had to shut down my AE Base station. When I went to reconnect, I was no longer connected to the internet. I have tried everything I can think of from shutting the whole thing down, to full factory reset, but for some reason it will not work. I can see and connect to the airport itself, the Cable internet works (I am connected by the ethernet cable to write this), but I cannot connect through the AE. Also, I can connect to the airport through the Airport Utility, but the Airport Setup Assistant tells me I do not have the correct hardware installed??? Can anyone give me some steps to follow that might help me to work through the problem?
I have a cable modem connected to Virgin Media (which is definitely working)
The Cable modem is connected via cable to the WAN port as it has always been.
nothing else is connected to the set up, although before reset I also had an Airport express connected as a slave, elsewhere in the house. I have tried to use this directly instead of the Airport Extreme but with no luck.....
    Finally, I have no firewalls
    Many thanks for any help

    Welcome to the discussions!
If you haven't already done so, try a full modem reset as follows:
Push the reset button on the modem and then power the modem down
Pull the battery from the modem if it is easily accessible
Power down the rest of your network....all devices
    Wait 30 minutes
Make sure that the modem is connected to the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AirPort Extreme
Power up the modem first and let it run 4-5 minutes by itself
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Power up each of your other devices one at a time, waiting a few minutes before you start the next device.
    Please post on your results.

  • Airport extreme wont connect to a website

hi i have a problem with my airport extreme, i love it to bits but this week as i was updating my website it decided to go screwy. it connects to the internet fine except for one site....my website, i know the site is live as ive asked people to check it and its ok, when i take out my extreme and connect either thru my airport express or direct to the cable modem its fine and loads the site as normal.
ive looked on the discussions for an answer and most point to a dns addressing issue ive worked my way through the kb article, but to no avail nothing works, tried hard and soft reset, downgraded the firmware upgraded the firmware, left it powered off for 12 hrs, left it powered on for 12 hours etc etc but it still wont load my site, im pulling my hair out here can any one help.
one thing i did notice even though its set up to pull the dns info automatically the subnet mask was set to 255.255.252.0, where usually its 255.255.255.0, set this up manually to the 255 number restarted but its still a no go.
any help would be appreciated or if anyone knows of a way to factory, factory reset the airport so i can just start from scratch as im not sure wether for what ever reason some residule info is being cached or kept in a log or something in the airport that is causing a factory reset to no fully reset it.
    hope some one can help.

never found a soloution after a week of trying, finally i rang apple support number after 20 minutes they told me that they were going to have to charge me for phone support or that i could make an appointment with the genius bar, i dont have the money to waste on phone support, especially since im pretty sure i tried everything to fix it.
so i relented said no and made an appointment with the genius bar. two days later on my birthday took the drive upto birmingham, armed with all my information of what had happened and what i had done to fix it, 2 minutes into my conversation with the genius, he said no problem take it to the cash desk and theyll swap it, and they did. i couldnt have asked for a better response and this experience has restored my faith in apple products. im sending this reply using my new extreme and my website www.build34.com works again.
so my advice dont spend time trying to fix it, dont ring tech support, just make an appointment with the genius bar. oh yeah at the same time i took my macbook back as the battery was pretty much toast (gen 1 every problem under the sun happened) they swapped the battery as well, god bless apple, their customer support is A-1, and i had 2 of the best birthday presents ever.

  • Macbook2.1, OS 10.4.8, Airport Extreme wont connect to Actiontec GT701-WG

I can't get my macbook to connect to Qwest-DSL wireless gateway modem (Actiontec GT701-WG). A Dell laptop connects without any problems. I've tried a number of things: WEP, no WEP, Access lists. I've recycled the Actiontec, rebooted the macbook, etc. No luck.
Airport sees the network but when trying to connect I get "There was an error joining the Airport network Home". When running Network Diagnostics I do get something in /var/log/system.log:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport:Error:W irelessAssociate2() = 88001006 for network Home
I've been through both Qwest and Apple support and they are pointing fingers at each other. Any ideas out there?
    Thanks
    Macbook2,1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Let's double-check both your Actiontec & AirPort settings.
    For the Actiontec:
    Wireless Settings
    - Wireless: On
    - ESSID: ACTIONTEC
    - Channel: 1
    - Security: Off
    Wireless MAC Authentication
    - Enable Access List: unchecked
    LAN IP Address
    - Device IP Address: 192.168.0.1
    - Device LAN Netmask: 255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server
    - On (enabled)
    - Beginning IP Address: 192.168.0.2
    - Ending IP Address: 192.168.0.254
    - SubnetMask: 255.255.255.0
    - DNS: Dynamic (enabled)
    Services Blocking
    - All options should be blank.
    Website Blocking
    - All options should be blank.
    NAT (Network Address Translation)
    - On (enabled)
...and for the Mac's AirPort Extreme Card:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
    - Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)
First try connecting your Mac directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the Actiontec's LAN ports. Can you access the Internet? If so, disconnect the Mac from the Actiontec, and try again wirelessly. Can you still connect?
