I just bought this phone 2 days ago, and as I've come to find out I believe I'm actually missing certain settings. The setting that allows me to set a password everytime it locks is not there, also when i hold my finger down on the screen the apps don't wiggle for me to rearrange them. Anyone else having these problems? I had technical support call me and all they could tell me was to restart the phone which didn't work.

How can I get a Brand New iPhone 3GS as a warranty replacement phone?

Does anyone how I can get a brand new iPhone 3GS as a warranty replacement for my iPhone 3GS? I already had the phone replaced once with a refurbished phone that has a problem with becoming frozen and unresponsive. This occurred ten times since I got the phone on 4/16/2011. I have tried doing a hard reset and have also restored the phone as a new device. I have an Apple Care plan. I am concerned that the refurbished phones will not be reliable due to my experience with the refurbished one that I got as a replacement.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

If within warranty (yours is since the warranty is one year) and not abused, Apple will exchange it at no cost.

Messed with kexts, killed kb/tp on brand new mac!!! help

ok, i was trying to disable mac's usb ports to see if that would let windows in Parallels get access to it (later learned this was impossible) so that I could read/write to an external ntsf hard drive. One method with SOME potential that I found on a very trustworthy anonymous website was to remove a kext file called IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext. I found this advice on numerous web pages which all also assured the keyboard and trackpad, etc, would not be harmed.
I removed the kext by copying it to the desktop, and then trashing the original. It... sort of worked. My mac no longer grabbed the USB, but Parallels didn't either. But I was still having the original error in Parallels, so I tried the same thing with the similar-looking IOUSBFamily.kext. Nada. Butkis.
Note: when I moved the kexts to the desktop, their icons changed to folders. Does this mean anything??
So anyway, it didn't work. So I moved both kexts back into Extensions. But then the Mac could not detect the USB port like it did before I did anything.
Note2: I am a relative mac newb and have no idea if this is the proper way to install/uninstall kext files. But I figured if it couldn't find the files, couldn't use them. And if they were returned, no harm no foul, right?
So anyway, I figured I needed to reboot, and now my keyboard and trackpad and anything USB related won't work. The only access I have is using the Install Disc to startup, where I DO have a working keyboard and mouse (just not when booting from HD) I can get into the terminal and tried various things with the IOUSB kexts but nothing worked.
So.... HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
I now have, basically, a brand new, dead macbook!!
Is there any way to fix the kexts manually through the (limited) terminal, or from the install disc? Or..... am I way off here and it has absolutely nothing to do with the kexts?!?! oh god........

How do I get repeat voicemail alerts on my new iphone 3GS? Please help.

I got the new iphone 3GS. Right now, if someone leaves a voicemail it beeps once and that's it. This is fine, except when I am not near my phone when this beep sounds. (I would have to manually check the phone to see if anyone called).
I would like the phone to beep as a reminder that I have a voicemail waiting say every 5 or 10 minutes until I listen to it (or purposely acknowledge there is a vm for me and decide to listen to it later). Can anyone tell me how to set up a "repeat" voicemail alert? (Every phone I have owned has had this).

It is surprising iphone does not have this feature. My 5 year previous cell phone had the feature, but would also give you the option to disable it if you just wanted 1 beep. That way if you step away from your cell or get busy, you at least had a repeat reminder to check your voicemail. This is CRITICAL in Emergency situations (medical) or time sensitive things that can come up, especially if you don't know about them in advance.
Can we have more discussion on this? Are we sure this simple feature does not exist for the iphone?? Is there an Application I can get that will help solve this problem? I am sure I am not the only one who could benefit from it.

Brand new at copying DVDs - need help.

Hope that I am in the right forum. I'm brand new at using DVD copying since I've only had this computer for about a week. I've had problems in copying my home video DVDs on DVD+R discs which were created on a Sony DVD recorder. These are obviously not copy protected. I tried making a copy for a friend but ran into problems, phoned Apple and followed their instructions for copying and burning -R discs but that didn't work for me. On my follow up call, they suggested that the problem may be either the +R disc (rather than -R) or the fact that the discs were not burned on a computer but rather on the recorder. They suggested the use of other software. So I searched the web andI downloaded something called Mac the Ripper and using the dialog box in that program, do have the contents of one disc on my hard drive as far as I know. But I don't know how to copy (burn) onto a blank disc either using this same program or something else. In other words, what are my next step by step instructions to burn what I hope I have on the hard drive onto a blank disc - I still have +R discs left so I'll likely be using them. Thanks for any help.

From all the helpful information posted here, I have found out that copying DVDs is not quite as straightforward as I had hoped it would be using my new computer. I would have to purchase software which isn't supplied on my iMac such as Toast or Popcorn to do the job as far as I have found out from a number of sources. Toast is a bit more costly than I want to spend for just this one task although Popcorn is more reasonable. I am beginning to think that for the few DVDs that I really need to copy for my friend, the easiest route is to use my DVD recorder, transfer the contents of the DVD to the hard drive on my recorder (yes, the recorder does have a 160 GB HD) and then burn a blank DVD from the recorder's hard drive which is what I have done dozens of times in the past. Of course, it takes 2 hours to transfer the video from a DVD (assuming it has 2 hours of video on it) to the hard drive and then only about 4 - 7 minutes to burn the video onto a blank DVD from the HD of the recorder. Using the computer, I had hoped to reduce the time it takes for that first 2 hour step with the recorder. I'm not even sure if Popcorn would significantly reduce the time for transferring the video from the DVD onto the computer. I'll have to evaluate whether or not the cost of something like Popcorn is really worthwhile for me. Thank goodness, copying audio CDs is much more straightforward on the computer. Having problems with brand new battery installed...Help please!

Here's my problem. I just recently replaced the battery on my 13" Macbook. The brand new battery ordered from Apple arrived on Saturday and up until last night everything was great. Now all of a sudden the computer is doing the same things it did with the old battery. I am getting the green light on the MagSafe Adapter even though the battery is not fully charged. I am also alternating between "Not Charging" on the battery icon and a "X" on the icon.
I did some reading and tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. I even uninstalled Leopard and reinstalled Tiger (updating everything afterwards), thinking maybe it was a software issue. (I just recently installed Leopard and hoped it was just a bad install.) None of that really seems to work.
There is one slight exception- the SMC reset. After I do the SMC reset I get the amber light from the adapter, the icon shows charging and all is well for about 15 to 30 minutes. Then I am back at square one.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on what could be going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It seems like you have eliminated all the easy fixes for your problem - what is left is the computer itself. Call Apple (800-275-2273) and explain the troubleshooting you have already done. They should set up a repair for your computer. If it is out of warranty you may have to pay for the repair.

HP 5514 not printing with brand new black ink cartridge

Ok so I have the same issue as everyone else here - new cartridges but won't print - specifically black. Other colors print fine. Cartridges have expiration of 2016 and were made in China. I put a new one in last night - got 2 pages printed out and all was good, color printed, black printed. Woke up this morning and no black - nothing, nada, zilch. I did everything recommended - multiple passes on cleaning, checked vent holes, etc etc etc...have now lost most of my color ink from printing the test pages - still no black.
So my unit of course is out of warranty - so now what? Like the others - product was not overly used - a few pages a week - nothing massive. So it should still have life left you would think.
Next steps please? Really can't afford a new printer no matter how cheap they are these days...and with no warranty - what are my available options????

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5514, you are unable to print in black ink.
I would like you to continue here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, I understand you may have done some of these steps already but I need you to complete all steps in order to resolve the missing black issue you are experiencing.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still unable to print in black ink, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker

5th Gen. Brand new ipod DIED! Need help on this.

Hi: I purchased my 30 gig ipod from B&H store in New York and I also have purchased an extended 3 international warranty coverage which sold by a company called `Mackcam`. Their website is www.mackcam.com and they are totally BOGUS! Knowing that I am in Turkey and probably assuming won't push this further away, they haven`t answered my warranty claim since mid June.
What happened to my ipod video is that after holding it connectted to USB 2.0 port for 4 hrs' suddenly computer at work came up w dialog box `USB device not recognized`despite it was already connected to the port and had been working for 4 hrs. Then i took it home and worked fine w my laptop only 1 day. Ive put some songs and disconnectted w fully charged battery, listened in the bed but after 10 minutes I ve noticed that battery indicator was red and showing 1 / 5 energy. I shut it off and next day I plugged onto USB, a blinking shock indicator show up but it never charged again nor my computer recognized the ipod.Lately same day my ipod has died since then I have been trying to charge it periodically but no hope. It looks totally dead.
My question is that how do I find out if the problem is battery or hdd inside is burnt? If the problem is battery' and since my so called `warranty` doesnt respond to my claim I will buy one of those toolkits for battery replacement sold at Ebay. If the problem is HDD i have nothing to do more. I will never buy apple product ever again.

Brand New To Photoshop...help please

     I'm a student using the free trial software. My first objective is to turn construction docments into resume pages. Fairly staight ahead I think, but I'm running into a few snags early.
    First, when I open files things are a bit blurry. Zooming in it's terrible. Not at all like the look I'm getting on the schools computer. I'm getting a mesage to "uncheck the use graphics processor checkbox in the performance panel of the preferences dialouge" Is that the preoblem? Where is the preferences dialouge located? I'm assuming my laptop is lacking, but the graphics capability I do have works perfectly with other programs like Revit and AutoCAd
    Also, when I try to drag an opened file to the blank canvass I'm getting a message the says "The target document depth does not match the source document" Is that the bit rate?
    I'm setting the new page Resolution at 300 Pixels/inch. Is that on target?
   And if I could, one more question. Working with 11x17 my files are dragging over to the canvass no problem On 8 x 11 they wont drag over. Weird.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you are getting a messgae that you should uncheck the graphics processor then you should do so. Some of the features of photoshop uses the graphics card to process instead of using the CPU. Off loading is meant to speed up the amount of time it takes to do something.
If your graphics card lacks the power or does not have the ability to process, then the CPU must do it and therefore the reason to uncheck the option.
As for where to find the preferences, that depends on whether or not you have a mac or windows computer. It is located in a difference menu structure for each system. This is why it is always important to specify which OS you have when posting a request.
On Windows you will find it at the bottom of the edit menu. On Mac, I think there is one menu option just before file. Click that then go down to preferences. {ctrl-k on windows, command-k on mac}
When the preference dialog opens there is a list of sub options on the right side find the one for performance. Click on it, then on the right side uncheck the graphics processor and finally click OK.
As for the ppi, 300 is or was the recommended value for printing. Some now recommend less. It is a personal preference of balancing between file size and quality. I still use 300ppi as that is what I was taught years ago.
As for physical size it should not matter what size it is when you drag a file, it should go to the document's canvas. It could be possible that either you are not seeing the image becasue it is too large or too small. Or you are seeing an affect from the graphics card.
When you drag the image onto the canvas. try zooming in or out if that does not help, let us know.

Brand new black macbook, not enough battery time!

hello! i got my macbook about a month ago. it will usually go about 3.5 hours on a charge if my screen is at the lowest brightness setting. this morning i turned it on, fully charged, put my screen on fully dark and set garage band to record. i do this a lot (i'm a musician and record all of my private lessons and practice sessions with garage band, and barely ever remember to bring my charger). this morning, however, after 45 minutes of having GB run with the screen on black, i turned the screen back on only to find that the battery said i had only 50 minutes of charge left. before i started recording, i had it on for about 10 minutes, in which time it went from 99% charge to 90% charge.
i have had an issue with the fan seemingly always running, to the point that if i am listening to music i have to put earbuds in to even have a shot at hearing it (granted, it's classical music, so it's quiet to start out with, but still). i read a post about the fan problem, and pretty much as soon as i opened it, my fan quieted down (figures). for instance, right now, i only have safari running. no music playing. and it's on full blast. any help is greatly appreciated for either of these issues. thank you!

Hi robyn_basson: It may be worth checking to see if there is "hung" application. Go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor. Once it is running, click to show CPU, sort by CPU Activity, and also select show all processes and see if there is an activity or application using a high amount of the CPU. Print jobs seem to be a popular culprit.

Brand new iPhone 3GS 32GB, put sim card in, turned on, Slide for Emergency.

I just bought an iPhone 3GS with 32GB black, I used the pin to eject the sim card socket, and put the sim card in.then i pressed the silver power button at the top right corner for 3 seconds, it turned on with the gray apple. Then it comes to "Slide for emergency" with this itunes icon.
Now what do I do?

Ok seems to work. Thanks very much. Connecting to iTunes solved the problem. I presume I was one of the few cases where the iPhone didn't work without being hooked up to a computer first.
(I had read reports about this happening to people after they had upgraded, or 'jailbroke' their phone, but since I had done neither of these things, I was worried)
All iPhones have to be activated through iTunes. Usually it is done at the store when you buy it.

I have two problems with my brand new iphone 3gs...

The first question I have is how do I get my phone to accept photos in text messages? I can send them but not receive them.
Second, I keep having No Service on my phone when my husband can be sitting beside me and have service on his. We both have Telus as a provider and he has an iphone 4 and I have the 3GS. Anyone else encounter similar issues? Thanks. I just got this phone so it's frustrating.

I did have one on it, and I thought the same thing since then I have took the case off. Didn't help. The Apple phone support tech even asked if the on off button was stuck and had me press it, so I did and you can feel it push in and release fine.

Swapping brand new black iPhone 4 for a white one

I recently lost my white iPhone 4 and managed to pay for a new one through my insurance, however I was sent a black iPhone 4. I have not used the new phone nor removed it from its packaging. Would I be able to trade this in at the apple store for a white iPhone 4?

If you didn't get the iPhone from the Apple Store, then the chances of them allowing an exchange is very small, but you can ask. Most dealers, and this includes the Apple Stores, will only accept a return of a product purchased from that store.
