Brand New DVD+R's eject.

I bought some brand new Memorex DVD+R's 4.7 GB and my Macbook ejects them.
I can watch movies, play CDs, etc. But I really don't want to keep buying DVDs until I find one that works. I think this is something to actually pursue under warranty, but has anyone solved a similar problem?

To reply to myself, maybe the "combo drive" doesn't burn DVD's? I can't remember - does anyone else remember? (The MacBook marketing info doesn't say "combo drive: burns CDS but not DVDs" - it was some kind of subtle thing I had to ask about over and over in the store in person.)

  • HT2499 I inserted a brand new DVD and it quit half way through and gave me the "skipping over damaged area" message.

I got this laptop refurbished from Apple in July. It was originally released in October 2011. I have watched DVD's on it previously, but lately, in the past 3 weeks, it's been pooping up the "skipping over damaged area" message. I put in a brand new DVD and half way through, it did it again, and I can't get past it. Any thoughts on what the problem may be?

You can just open Terminal (in Utilities) and run the rm command (make sure you type it exactly) and then reboot.  With /.AppleSetupDone gone the system will think it is the the second part of an installation, i.e., after it installs and reboots and starts the Setup Assistant.  You will see the Welcome and music all over again and then you can go through the setup prompts again, this time specifying a password.

  • Brand new DVD "skips over damaged area"

Hello there....So I shot hdv, edited in native hdv 1080i60, used compressor to make a best quality 150 min ac3 and m2v, and used dvdsp to format, and disk utility to burn the image. But right when it finishes burning, and I play it in DVD Player, around 30 min in, it skips and freezes. The image plays fine but the dvd doesn't. The dvds are sony dvd+r. Bad dvds? All my software is up to date and i'm using a hv30 and lacie 7200 external firewire 400 drive.

Could be a bad disc. Try another set of quality media and see if it works. Also bitrates are important too. what were your settings?

  • HT2499 My DVD player on Mac Book Pro is immediately ejecting the DVD. What could be causing this problem? The DVD is brand new and just out of its packing.

I just bought a brand new DVD, but my Mac Book Pro is automatically ejecting it when I put it in to play. Any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it?

  • A dvd will not eject from my brand new IMac. I have done every suggestion in the help area. Any suggestions on how to get this DVD out of the computer?

My brand new IMac will not eject a DVD. I have tried everything that was suggested in "help". It didn't recognize the dvd, and whenever I try to eject it, it is not highlighted. I have tried to restart while holding the track pad, and nothing happened at all. The dvd is from the library...so it needs to be returned! Any other suggestions?

Have you tried all of these?
    1. Pressing the Eject key while opening the iMac.
    2. Pressing the Eject key while closing down the iMac.
    3. Holding down the Option key while restarting the iMac.
    4. Using Disk Utility to try to Mount, Repair and Eject the disk.
    5. Holding down the Mouse while restarting the iMac.
    6. Pressing the O and F keys while closing down the iMac.
    7. Opened Applications > Utilities >Terminal and typed in 'drutil tray eject'.

  • Why cant I burn my purchased music onto a new dvd?

    Hi,
I wanted to make a backup of the music I have purchased from the Music store. I have not burnt any backup CD’s or DVDs at all yet.
There are 134 songs with 697.3MB. (This doesnt mean much to me to be honest!) As this is too much for a CD I thought I would burn a DVD.
As per the ITs “help” instructions “to create a data CD or Burn DVD” I went into Itunes preferences and selected the advanced botton, then “Burning” header, then Disc Format and selected DVD and Preferred speed tab to 2x. I have also tried maximum speed.
The brand new DVD is a Panasonic DVD Ram 3X speed 4.7GB 120 mins rewritable.
All songs were checked and were in the “Purchased folder” I selected ‘burn disc’ from Itunes window and put the blank DVD in as requested...’checking media’ appears in the iTunes window.......
the DVD is continually ejected with no explanation as to why!
I have also “highlighted’ all of the songs and completed the same procedure as above with the same result.
I tried moving the selected playlist to a new folder with no joy again.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thx George UK

    SuperDrive: Ejects DVD-RAM Discs
The SuperDrive, included with some Power Mac G4 and iMac (Flat Panel) computers, does not read DVD-RAM discs.
    Symptom
The DVD drive ejects every DVD-RAM disc, but accepts DVD-ROM and DVD-R discs, which appear on the desktop without any issues.
    Products affected
Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio) with SuperDrive
Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver) with SuperDrive
Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver 2002) with SuperDrive
    iMac (Flat Panel) with SuperDrive
    Solution
The SuperDrive does not read DVD-RAM discs and will eject them. They will not appear on the desktop, nor will the Finder display an alert box or error message. For more information about the discs that are compatible with the SuperDrive, see article 58770 "CD-RW and SuperDrive: Specifications and Usage Information."

  • Brand New iMac unable to read data DVD or eject it.

    Hello all,
I'm no good with technology so please bear with me.
I just purchased a brand new iMac a couple of weeks ago, and I'm attempting to run a Data DVD that I got for an online university class.
When put in to the disc drive, one of two things happens:
    1) It fails to recognize that there is a DVD in it.
    2) It eventually recognizes it (about 5 mins), but then shows nothing on the disc.
after that it is nearly impossible to eject the disc without rebooting the computer or pushing eject a million times and waiting 10 minutes.
Assuming the disc is good (the rest of them are, but I'm getting a replacement just in case), what else can I do?
    Thanks.

If it just does it with the one disc the disc is likely bad. Get a replacement disc.
If it does it with multiple discs the drive may be faulty. With a new Mac I'd take it back to the store.

  • HT2494 Usb super drive is not playing my dvds.  keeps ejecting them.  It is brand new

USB SUPER DRIVE IS NEW.  MAC IS NEW.  THE DRIVE IS NOT ACCEPTING MY DVDS.  KEEPS EJECTING THEM.
I HAVE THE MAC, 21.5 INCH INTEL BASED DESK TOP

I have the same issue wherein my external usb superdrive is ejecting the DVDs.
When I had the Snow Leopard, I was able to copy the DVDs into my hard drive, or even just watch DVD films.  Since I have the Mountain Lion, the DVD films which I used to be able to watch were not able to be read anymore ... it ejects them.
I did not notice it when I upgraded the Mountain Lion, because I did not watch any new DVDs.  Noticed this only couple of months back, and been searching for the solution.

  • CD/DVD drive suddenly not working on brand new macbook pro?

I have a BRAND NEW 15" macbook pro, was ripping some commercial cd's into my itunes, when the computer , suddenly stopped recognizing them at all, they dont even show up on the desktop . It ejects them fine. What is the deal? Is the cd dvd reader defective? Please advise...

    Firstly, try resetting PRAM…
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Failing that, insert a DVD and see if it works. If it does then I would contact AppleCare as this would most likely mean you have a failed CD laser (it's different to the DVD laser).

  • BRAND NEW LENOVO K300 5316 1BU (WON'T BOOT FROM DVD SUPERJULTI DRIVE/CD-WRITER

Would appreciate info from the Lenovo Community as to what might be the problem and a fix.
I just received my new Lenovo K300 5316 1BU. As one of the first tasks I made a Lenovo Repair Disc.
To test my disc I rebooted my computer with disc in drive. During reboot I pressed F12 to get to the proper menu.
I chose the cd/dvd drive as the first boot option. It showed that the drive was recognized stating Boot Priority but then went directly into my Windows 7 deskop.
I called Tech Support and tried everything with them with the same results.
They instructed me to do a complete System Restore to see if that corrects the problem.
I have not done this yet since I will do a backup of my present setup, not to loose all my hard work and time setting up all my programs and settings.
Before I do a complete system restore I would appreciate any comments or suggestions from the community regarding this situation.
Do you also believe that doing a full system restore will help or should I send this computer back?
I do find it hard to believe that a computer less than a week old would have this problem with the DVD Supermulti Drive /CD writer.
If I still have no success after a full restore or a resolve from the Lenovo IdeaCentre Community then I will return this computer back to TigerDirect.
To conclude I would like to mention the following regarding this brand new Lenovo K300 5316 1BU top of the line desktop computer.
One of the reasons I purchased this particular desktop was because of the Lenovo Windows 7 ENHANCED operating system that Lenovo has been advertising so much.
To my surprise and disappointment, this BRAND NEW Lenovo Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit does not have the Enhance version, it is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit only.
Apparently, Lenovo is making some with Enhanced and some without.
Finally, another reason I purchased the 1BU version is because it has a TV Tuner.
To my surprise again, the TV Tuner card in this model does not have an FM Tuner, which almost all TV Tuner Cards have. So, as a result, no FM Radio with Windows 7 Media Center.
Thank you for taking the time to read this long post, but thought it was important to share with the community.
Comments and Help will be most appreciated.

What brand DVD drive did you install? Some third-party drives won't boot by holding down the C key at startup, because they lack the Apple/OEM drive's ROM programming. I recently installed a Memorex (manufactured by LG) DVD burner in a B&W G3, which is recognized by Toast and (with PatchBurn) the iApps. The compatibility problem occurs when selecting a CD/DVD as the startup disk using the Startup Disk Preferences/control panel or by holding down the C key during the restart. In either case, the drive ejects the disk during the POST, so that I have to immediately close the tray and hold down the C key again, to persuade it to boot from the disk. Is this similar to what you're experiencing?

  • New (Penryn) MBP instantly ejects DVD -R DL media

    I recently bought a 2,4 GHz Penryn MBP with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-867 (Firmware: HA13) optical drive. Profiler states it CAN burn DVD-Write: -R, >>>>-R DL<<<<, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW media.
However when I insert a brand new FujiFilm -R DL (I tried 3 of them) - the drive spins up then down and then ejects the DVD without any error message whatsoever. I have extensively searched the Forums, however I can not find my specifig problem answered anywhere.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in avance,

i have the same machine, (early 2k8 mbp) and i can burn dvds and cdrs but NOT dvd-dual layers! It craps out usually at the verification process with this message (in console)

I have YET to be able to burn any Dual layer disks at all - at least 9 bricked in a row so far.
So, i called applecare, got the machine sent in to be "fixed". They had it for TEN days, and then returned it to me with a "we couldnt duplicate the problem" message! I then tried to burn a dual layer yet again getting a wonderful coaster... According to the console it doesnt appear they tried using dual layers when they tested.... But anyway, zapping P-RAM, making a new user, the usual stuff didnt fix it. Tried 3 different companies disks too. Does the same in Disk Utility, and Toast. No dually layered love... period.
I havent called back in, because im afraid id be tempted to reach through the phone and strangle and innocent... i think ill try a clean install next, because i cant afford to go another ten days without it.

  • The optical disk unit ejects the disk after loading my new DVD-RW.

Problem: My Pioeneer DVD-unit doesn’t accept the grand new DVD-RW disk. The DVD unit is just checking the disk for 30 sec and then ejecting the disk. On the contrary I can read the same DVD brand type DVD-RW whre I have burnt some songs with my Amilo PC.

USB connections are by nature designed to be plugged and unplugged as needed.
Unless the BackupDrive is backing up, you could potentially drag the drive to the Trashcan before disconnecting the cable, and then disconnect.
The Scanner should also have no issues being unplugged.
If You don't need the keyboard while burning, You could unplug that.
The Mouse you'll likely need, to interact with the burning software, so probably that would not be a good thing to unplug.
All in all the Scanner and Keyboard should be the least hassle to unplug.
For the future you may want to buy a USB HUB so you have more USB ports you can use without having to unplug things.

  • Brand new iMacs with Lion will not read DVD-R

Our business has just purchased 3 x brand new iMacs (3.4Ghz) pre-loaded with OSX Lion 10.7.2 and NONE of them will read a DVD-R containing important files I need to access. However, the trusty 2 year old iMac running Snow leopard sees the files instantly....what's wrong with Lion...?
My 2 year old MacBook pro was updated with Lion a few months ago and hey, it stopped reading DVD-R's....how interesting....! It can't be ALL of the superdrives failing, so it's obviously a fault with the OS...seems to be a VERY common problem, so what's the problem in getting it fixed?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • I have a brand new iMac that does not have iDVD. Made a move on iMovie installed a 3rd party burn prog. but DVD won't playback on my regular dvd player. Need to burn one that will. Help!

My new iMac did not come with iDVD as they are not using iDVD any longer.  I made a movie that I needed to put on a DVD that would play on any external DVD player. After calling Apple twice, they recommened a 3rd party program so I downloaded "Burn-osx" and made the DVD; however when i insert it into my player connected to the TV it gives the message "disk error --playback feature may not be available on this disk".  Ok--now what?  I am up against a time line here--need the DVD for a graduation party! Help! What am I not doing correctly?

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie. Get iDVD.
