after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • Brand New HP Pavilion Laptop 15-ab023cl network/ethernet drivers

I am trying to put Windows 7 64-bit on a brand new HP Pavilion Laptop - Model 15-ab023cl. It came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled, I have Windows installed, but cannot get the correct Ethernet and Network controller adapter drivers. I downloaded the drivers from HP that say they work, but it will not install. Any help would be appreciated

Hi: For the ethernet driver, download and install the second file on the list from the link below. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false The parts list for your model indicates it has an Intel AC wireless card. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=6943827&swItemId=ob_144425_1&swEnvOid=4058 That being the case, you would also need the Intel bluetooth driver... http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=6943827&swItemId=ob_147738_1&swEnvOid=4058

  • Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what amI doing wrong?

Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what am I doing wrong?

It's possible the reason it seems so slow, is that a backup might be in progress - and since it's the first backup everything on the disk is something that Time Machine is backing up and is being transferred across the WiFi at the same time as you're trying to use your Internet. So you're competing with Time Machine data flying across your WiFi along with your internet stuff. So if this is indeed what is happening (look at Time Machine to see if a backup is in progress), either pause the backup to a more convienent time or live with the slowness till the backup is done this first time, and after that you probably will not notice the "competition" on your WiFi. I like to schedule the Time Machine backups to late at night rather than once an hour (the default), but that schedule should be whatever you feel most comfortable with.
There is a handy free utility called "TimeMachine Editor" that you can get from http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/ that lets you create your own customized backup schedule. You can create several schedules to fit your working conditions. I've used it for several years with never a problem. I don't have anything to do with the company - just a happy user.
    Good luck...

  • Brand New Hp Pavilion - Hard Disk *beep* and *scratching*

Bought an Hp Pavilion dv4-2145dx from Best Buy about a month ago.
2 weeks into the purchase, I noticed the computer making a "beep" sound (not from the speakers). Each time it would beep, the light below the picture of "3 discs" on my laptop would light up. (hard disk, or hard drive I believe)
It would do this maybe once an hour, or a couple times an hour, or even a few times a minute. It varies. Recently it started making a "scratching" noise (very light, not loud though, coming from the hd area). It will "scratch" for either a quick second, or a few seconds. Each time it does this it sounds like my brand new $600 laptop is about to just crap out.
After the support on HP chat got me absolutely nowhere (even the chat support cant speak english..unbelievable.) im still stuck here. I flashed my BIOS, it didnt do a **bleep** thing. Here I am with a brand new $600 laptop that feels like its about to just crap out. I did some research and I heard Pavilions are known for having faulty hard drives or something on new models.
what should I do to go about fixing this? for free, also. Theres no way im shelling out more cash for a faulty product.

HP does not make the hard drives so HPs are not any more subject to hard drive failures than any other brand of laptop, but such failures do happen. Hold down F10 as you power up to enter the Setup (BIOS) and look for the hard drive self-test. Run the full version. If errors are noted, HP will replace the drive under warranty for free. As I understand it they will ship a new drive and you have to give them a credit card number but they reverse the charge when you return the old drive. Or you can send the unit in. And Best Buy would have let you return it within 14 days and exchange for another one without a restocking charge if it was bad and then BB would have had to deal with HP.

  • Brand new iMac loosing Airport! Very dissapointed!!!

    Hi,
I have a brand new iMac 21.5". The first time I used it, it said there was no Airport installed. I phoned apple support and they told me to flash the pram. After that it found the Airport card.
Now it has lost it again and flashing the pram does nothing. This is very dissappointng - its BRAND NEW I haven't changed anything. Looks like I might have to return it....
    Thanks for any help.
    Theo

I'm so sorry. It's rare that one needs to send a Mac in for replacement but it can happen. The posts you see here in the AD forums are but 1% of the total Mac sold so please don't get the wrong impression. It's better to send it back now instead of trouble shooting and getting more upset. The Airport card may not have been installed correctly or it's defective. One way or another you'll have a new iMac soon.
*"I spent hours setting up the computer when it first arrived and now I'll have to do that all again. "*
It shouldn't take hours to setup an iMac. Did you check the System Profiler to see if it recognizes the Airport card?
If not and if you haven't already boxed the iMac up, click the Apple Menu then click: About This Mac then click the "More Info" button. That will launch the System Profiler for you. Under Network on the left, click Airport. See if any information shows up on the right.

  • Printing problem-new HP Laserjet P2015 and VERY slow printing-

I have a new HP Laserjet p2015, and while it does print, it is VERY slow—typically about 1 page per minute even for plain black-and-white Word documents. Much time spent with HP support, even got a new new machine… they're out of ideas and think it might be OS related…
Where do I begin to troubleshoot this?
Printer is connected directly to computer via USB.

I have downloaded new drivers, removed and added the printer multiple times, etc. As I mentioned, I've spent a few hours with HP support, tried new USB cable, even got a new machine. They now believe it's something with my system.
Any reason to believe that reinstalling my system software will help?
By the way: Printing from Text Edit is not faster. Or if it is, not very. In any case, it's not a realistic solution

  • New CS4 links panel is very slow

I have 3200 links and using new CS4 links-panel is insanely slow. If I delete or update an image when links panel is open, I get the beachball for 10-15 seconds.
The beachball also rolls for many seconds when simply opening the links panel. Seriously slowing the workflow.
Tried to click off all info and thumbnails, no change.
This used to be a breeze in CS3.
Anyone else experience the same? I use MacBook Pro 2.4 Intel with 4 gigs ram.

Do you have any suggestions of what might be the problem?
I tried same document on CS3 and CS4, and CS4 has very slow links panel.
I have no trouble when there are just a few links, but I have 3200 links to maybe 15 different multipage PDF's. CS3 handled this perfectly.

  • Brand new MacBook + Boot Camp = Totally eratic, slow, unusable track pad!

I see the long thread below but wanted to report what's happening with the new multitouch one button trackpad on the brand new MacBooks.
It is unusable in Windows under Boot Camp.
It behaves in completely erratic ways. You can't select any text - drag over some and it won't stay selected when you unclick. There's out of control scrolling when you're inside little windows like start menu options, making it impossible to click on settings. There are weird delays with clicking generally, sporadic 2 or 3 second delays. There are control issues, sometimes the pointer just jumps around uncontrollably.
This isn't about fancy stuff like right-click or page scroll not working. This is about core required point and click type stuff that you simply can't do without a mouse or a very incredible amount of patience. It's useless.
I bought the MacBook because it can run Windows, which I need sometimes. If there is no resolution I will definitely need to return it.
I'd add I have zero issues with the trackpad under Leopard, it works perfectly.

    Hi Velasquez.j,
Thanks for the tip about the 3-finger right-click, and turning down the scroll lines. I'm running XP on the new MBP 2.53GHz. These 2 tips worked for me. Scrolling is better, though still not perfect. The right-click was driving me crazy that I couldnt do it! The 3-fingers seems to work - but not 100% - it still misses sometimes, but it's better than not working at all.
I'm not surprised the trackpad is erratic in general though. My previous machine was a late-2006 MBP and sometimes the trackpad pointer would jump all over the place, "jiggle" in place, and other wierdness like that, under XP. I am pretty happy with bootcamp in general, but I really wish Apple would make the effort to ensure that the trackpads work CORRECTLY under Windows. Right now they seem content with a bare half-baked minimum. Sorry, but it's not good enough.
For now, if you want to avoid pulling your hair out, it seems a mouse is pretty much a requirement for using Boot Camp on a portable

  • Brand new iPod touch 4th generation VERY short battery life.

So the other day I went in to replace my old iPod touch for a new one because the home button was getting stuck and wouldn't work. So everything worked fine and I got the new ipod. Well It's been a few days and I've noticed that the battery life on this ipod isn't long at all. It'll last me maybe 30 minutes of usage. I've done everything I can to try and save battery life and it kind of helps, but not really. When I got this new iPod, I restored it from a previous backup instead of setting it up as a new iPod. I've read that doing this is the number one reason for battery loss in new iPhones and iPods. Is this true??
What should I do? I'm guessing that the battery isn't bad because it's BRAND NEW! I was going to take it to Apple, but I'm not sure if they'd find anything wrong with it since it is a brand new battery. PLEASE HELP!

  • Hp pavilion 500 - 281 Adding second drive

New HP Pavilon 500 arrived today.
I have the sata drive off win7 pc with blown m.b.
When I hook the sata up,  the PC does not recognize the second drive ???
If I hook it up to my Dell with Win7, instantly recognized, so I do not understand (computer manage/disk management)
Std sata drive 1TB W/D hard drive
If I want to boot from USB  Stick, I cannot get my PC to recognize. I thought I could just go into setup and change boot order so the sandisk usb is selected ? But at least computer/manage/diskmgmt shows the usb stick.
Does not seem to change the boot, it just wants to go into windows ??
    Thanks, Howie

I believe you have WIN7 with a UEFI BIOS. Here is a way to check.    Also a link I suggest you read.  Look for a Security tab.  Somewhere in the BIOS tabs is a list of the SATA ports.  Sata 0 (your initial HD) and Sata2 (your disk drive) should reflect being ENABLED.  Sata1 likely reads DISABLED. See here, source LasVegasWireman.  Also, look at this commentary on a similiar series unit.

  • I have a brand new Mac i3 --It seems so slow!!

I have bellsouth internet and a wireless router from belken. Any suggestions? email slow-downloads -sending pictures- updates all very slow!

pcrickman: glad to hear that helped. The Transmit Rate at 24 is kind of poor. In G mode, 54 is the best. Might be interference; try a different channel. Most people are on 1, 6 & 11. Try some channels in between, but not adjacent. Maybe play around with the antenna or the location of the router, if possible.
Not sure what you're supposed to be getting. The download speed is fine. The upload is OK but not great. You might want to call your ISP about that, since I would have thought, with that download, you'd be getting a better up. I'm on a slow DSL with 1mbps down and .38 up. But this is usually good enough for browsing and relatively small downloads. Not so hot for downloading a large file, though. The huge 10.6.7 combo update took me over two hours. Yours should be quite a bit faster.
Joseph: you don't need to use any of the options on the site or have an account with them. Just put those numbers in for Ethernet DNS. You'll only know if it helps, if you try it.
One good thing about openDNS is that their servers are patched against DNS poisoning, phony redirects.

  • New Pages V5 is running very slow

I was using the previous version happily for  6 months, using the shapes and shadows, dimensions etc to create great looking and very fast design plans. The features were surprisingly good and the process very quick and easy.
As soon as I downloaded V5 all this stopped . Whilst it seems the feature are still available, the speed has become so slow, I can't use ANY of the original files, and creating new ones is far too slow.
I was & still am using a MacBook Pro (1 year old )
Can anyone help/suggest anything to speed things up ???
    Thanks

No, Geoff, the features aren't the same. The list of missing features is in the high 40's in length. Apple have announced that they will restore 4 of them and make changes to two others, in 6 months.
There are other reasons for slowness that have to do with the Mavericks upgrade and iCloud syncing that could be contributing to your problems.

  • Upgraded to new MobileMe Calendar and now very slow updates

    System:
    iPhone 3G, iOS 4.1
    Mac: 10.6.4
"Upgraded" to the new MobileMe Calendar.
Now BusyCal, iCal, MobileMe and iPhone do not sync quickly (sometimes takes 30 minutes for iPhone or more). Sometimes I need to launch iCal to get MobileMe to update. On the iPhone need to leave on for a long time or turn on and off.
I think I've gone through all the conversion steps and FAQs: Apple's, MobileMe, Mac, iPhone and BusyCal.
Maybe I was just spoiled with iPhone via Airport.
    Any comments/suggestions?
    Thank you.

I'm seeing that problem as well and I can't figure out what why it's slower. I figured it's a bug so I reported the problem at Apple's iTunes Feedback page.
On the other hand, iTunes 9 converts MP3s to AAC format at least twice as fast as iTunes 8 did, which is a very welcome improvement.
