Brand new IMac can't connect to Internet while using Vista Ultimate

The subject is pretty much it, but basically.  We just bought a brand new IMac and I happened to have an old copy of Windows Vista Ultimate lying around and wanted to partition some hard drive space for gaming.  During the installation a message popped up that said Lion only supports Windows 7.  I went through with the installation and after Windows started I loaded in my old Snow Leopard CD.  I installed the drivers and went through the set up.  Everything seemed fine, but I am unable to connect to the Internet.  I plugged my desktop in via Ethernet to my router but still no Internet.  In my device manager there are many devices, including network controller, that have yellow exclamations next to them but I don't know how to update them or where to get the drivers.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I would be happy to take any steps to relay more information.  Thank you!

New motherboard. So unless you can find, and want to mess around, which is why the pdf guide and all the faqs tell you what and how to install, and that only 7 is supported.
Vista SP1 is no longer supported even by MS.
You have Sandy Bridge based system with Thunderbolt, hence it needed new device drivers.
Windows 7 64-bit SP1 Home Premium System Builder is $95

  • Brand new iMac i7 restarts for no reason while using FCP

I have had my iMac i7 for less than a month. I am having the same issue... The computer blanks and restarts with no warning whatsoever.
This is happening while editing/playing back video in Final Cut Pro 6.0.6. It is a multicam edit – 5 streams of 1280x1080 HD footage. I know this is very taxing on the machine, however, I am monitoring the system stats and it doesn't appear to be redlining.
Regardless... If it were too taxing on the machine, I could see FCP crashing, but the restart thing is weird. I'm ready to send this thing back to Apple.
All RAM is factory-installed Apple RAM. No modification have been made. All system and app updates are current.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!!
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi maooley
Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    +1. Shut down the computer.+
    +2. Unplug the computer's power cord.+
+3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.+
    +4. Release the power button.+
+5. Attach the computers power cable.+
+6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.+
Then restart resetting the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
+Restart holding the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears and hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.+
This is also a good time to check for any loose power connections and/or replace an old surge protector.
Then if *"the computer blanks and restarts with no warning whatsoever"* it is likely a hardware problem and you will need to contact Apple Support. > http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • New iMac can't connect to iTunes store.

When I click on the iTunes store it tells me that  it is "...temporarily unvailable. Please try again later".
    Which I did...many times...but I'm still not getting access.
iMac is online just fine, and my laptop and iPod Touch can get into the store, but not my brand new iMac.
    Any ideas?
    thanks...

Yes, there are currrently, numerous reports of iTunes store outages. Apple's System Status page shows all systems go (colored green), however, many other iTunes Store users - especially ones in other countries are reporting problems/outages/unavailability, etc... with the iTunes Store. The reports are just starting to go viral in the mainstream media.
I would read about it later this evening... For now, I wouldn't worry about your new iMac

  • Brand new iMac, can't partition using Bootcamp

I just got a 27" 1TB brand new iMac three days ago. After copying over all my files from my previous computer (PC), installing some software packages and configured the Mac the way I want it, yesterday I wanted to partition 80GB out of remaining 330GB with bootcamp to install Windows 7. After one hour it stopped with an error message that it wasn't able to move some files and I would need to re-format the HD and start again.
Is there really no other way? It took me two days to get to where I am.

Did you use the Boot Camp Assistant to partition the drive?
BTW you should be posting in Boot Camp forum located at:

  • My brand new iMac won't connect to the internet - the Air is fine?

    Hi All,
Loved my Air so much I bought an Imac today to do some serious work - but it won't connect to the internet.  It won't load any external webpages, the wireless symbol in the menu bar is at full strength and in settings it says its connected to the modem.  Its also finally recognising local time.  It can also 'see' my Macbook Air in the 'Migration Assistant' but doesn't connect.  The Air can't find the Imac in the 'migration assistant' and just spins.  I've rebooted the modem, turned both on and off, checked  Safari settings eg extensions (none loaded - its new today).
Essentially I've not been able to view a webpage with the new Imac at all - very frustrating and disappointing. (The Air was a breeze to set up).
I'm not very technical so does anyone have any suggestions?  Or do I just return it?  TIA.

  • Brand new iMac, Can I restore from Time machine or start new?

My Mac Pro died a month ago so I am replacing it with a 27 Inch iMac.  I had a time machine back up on my Mac Pro.  When I get my iMac can I restore from the time machine so that I don't have to go through installing all of my programs again or should I start fresh and install everything fr

It's probably "better" to put a fresh install of everything but it certainly isn't the easiest or fastest. I'd say if everythg was running fine at the time of your last TM backup I'd restore from the TM probably using Migration Assistant. Installing and registering a bunch of software can be a pain. I've always used Migration Assistant when I get a new Mac. What happened to the Mac Pro? Is the hard drive still available? You could stick it into an external enclosure and migrate from that.

  • My iMac can't connect to internet wirelessly

I purchased a 27" iMac in 2013 version 10.8.5. For no apparent reason, my iMac won't connect to the wireless. According to my iMac I have full bars but when i open my browser and try to connect to any website, the page won't open. The browser continues to try to load page for some time and eventually displays "Safari can't open the page "http://<website address>/" because the server where this page is located isn't responding." I had, prior to this problem, and still have, after this problem, other devices connected to the same wireless router without problems. My current wireless router doesn't have a password, however, there are no neighbors close enough to connect to my wireless router. I've restarted my computer, shutdown my computer, restarted my wireless router, turned on/off Wifi to no avail.
Per System Preferences>Network>Wifi, i have a green light with status: Connected. My Airport Utility however switches back and forth between connected and not connected. But regardless of what my Airport Utility says, I can't access wireless. I'm looking at the IP address and my macbook pro is connected to the same IP address without any problems. Does someone know what's going on?
    Please help!

    Hello, littlemold
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you have already processed most of the relevant troubleshooting steps for this issue.  This could be related to your router assigning a self-assigned IP address.  I would recommend going through the steps in the article below.

  • Imac can't connect to internet but ethernet working

Any ideas on how to resolve this, has me baffled. In an office where all other computers can connect but for some reason this imac can't.

Is the  indicator next to Ethernet in the left Network panel breen or red?  Green should indicate it is enabled.
Did you se your IPv4 setting appropriately (probalby DHCP).
Try using alternate DNS servers such as OpenDNS (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) or google's DNS's (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4).  Click the Advanced button, TCP/IP, and renew your lease if you are using DHCP.  Configure IPv6 as Automatically (or off?).  Also make sure all proxies are off.
For comparison look at the Network settings for one of the machines that is working.
Finally, is this machine connected to a router that may have its own problems?

  • Can't connect to internet while connect with spaeker

I just bought airport express from istudio. I wanna surf the internet while connect the speaker too. how can i do
so i wanna get how to set up this one. I use dlink access point plug from dlink router

Hello yosarena. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
In order to surf the Internet while streaming to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), the AX needs to be configured to "Join a wireless network."
(ref: AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless > Wireless Mode = Join a wireless network)
This will allow you to connect to the D-Link's wireless network for Internet access and stream to the AX simultaneously.

  • Iphone 5 wont connect to internet while using data or Wifi after iOS 7.0.6 update

I just updated my iPhone 5 today to iOS 7.0.6. No matter what conection I use, data or wifi connection, I can not connect to the internet or use any function involving the internet.

UPDATE - I got my devices working on my wifi. Here's what I did:
    1. On your iOS device - go to "network settings" and select the associated network and select "forget this network".
    2. Reboot your iOS device.
    3. Change the wifi (WPA2) password on your wifi AP.
    4. Re-join the wifi network on your iOS device. Put in the new password.
--> If your system is like mine, the device will now connect to your wifi network. I suspect the SSL fix somehow munged the password encryption for the existing password, but changing it on both ends somehow fixes it.
    good luck!!

  • IMac can't connect to internet dial up after start up.

I've a problem every time I try to make a connection to the internet directly after starting up my iMac. The very first time I try to log on to my ISP the Mac appears to make a connection, the status window in Internet connect indicates that it has (generally 52-54000bps), but when I try to surf, my browser can't find any sites, same with email. I get the standard connection noise when dialing out, occasionally the noise drops out mid way through, but it always makes a connection. Sometimes it will disconnect after about 30-40 secs, sometimes it doesn't. When I reconnect a second time I get good speeds and can stay on for hours. This is happening every time I boot up and dial out, basically I now expect to have to dial out twice before I can get onto the web every time I switch on the computer.
I've read a few threads re this problem, it seems the iMac has a software modem which can cause some problems, but there doesn't seem to be too many complaints about this exact same issue. Should I be getting a Mac tech to sort this out or is this a generic issue that may be resolved in a future software update? This is a new Mac – my second as the first nearly flew out the window after a kernel panic. Apple tech support in Sydney don't seem to have heard of this problem, and have told me to re install the OS again, which of course I have, plus run disk aid and re set the permissions etc etc...
The ISP has given me an alternative dial up number which actually works the first time I dial in, but I only get speeds of 28000bps. Can anyone shed any light on this? Will I get a similar problem if I went to Broadband?
    Thanks for any comments...

Unfortunately I've not got any help on this issue. An Apple tech has told me to try changing the modem settings down to V34 which I did, the connection worked correctly but I was only getting speeds of up to 33000bps, real speed tests showed I was actually only on 28000bps, same as when I dialed the alternative number given by the ISP, not good enough. I don't have any other devices connected to the phone line, in fact the line is only used for the internet. Maybe there is a problem with this type of software modem, but then why isn't there more comments here, unless everyone else is on broadband. Apple and my ISP seem to think the slower connection is more reliable, it is but at a cost. Not sure why this is considered better when the speed is so slowww. Like Seb above I don't have any problems when I'm using a Windows lap top on the same line.
Anyone out there know the answer??? There are at least 3 of us with this problem...

  • New iMac, can't connect HP 1315xi all-in-one printer

iMac is Intel Core i3, 27", 3.2 Ghz processor speed - OS 10.6.4.
I've tried to install from disk several times, but can't get the printer driver installed. I Receive a message that the printer is 'currently being used by the user'''', you may not be able to use now. To use switch to user'''' & quite running HP apps'.
I've never had a problem using this printer on my G4 (previous computer). I don't know what 'user' they are referring to. I am the administrator, & I am logged in as such.
Do I need to check w/ HP, or Apple? Any suggestions? Workarounds? Thank you.

This is probably very simple. Open System Preferences-Print & Fax then highlight the printer on the left and click the - symbol below. This will uninstall it, then disconnect the USB cable. I would recommend doing a SMC and PRAM resets at this point. I will list instructions for that below. Next restart the computer and then plug in the printer. If the Mac doesn't see the printer and prompt you to install it then go back to Print & Fax preference click the + symbol and it should see the printer. From there it should be intuitive. If you still can't get it you have 90 days of free phone support with any new Mac, use it and AppleCare can probably help you get it connected. The phone number is in your owners manual.
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • My new iMac won't connect to internet, will connect to network.

I have a 3 week old 2012 27-inch iMac and this morning I turned it on and it wouldn't connect to the internet. It connected to my home network just fine, just not the internet. I assumed it was my router's fault, but every other device in the house connected to the internet just fine. I have already tried turning it off and on again, many times, as with my router. I have also tried turning the Wi-Fi off and on in System Preferences. Any help?

Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router (or what yo are connecting to)
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
