  • Brand new iMacs with Lion will not read DVD-R

Our business has just purchased 3 x brand new iMacs (3.4Ghz) pre-loaded with OSX Lion 10.7.2 and NONE of them will read a DVD-R containing important files I need to access. However, the trusty 2 year old iMac running Snow leopard sees the files instantly....what's wrong with Lion...?
My 2 year old MacBook pro was updated with Lion a few months ago and hey, it stopped reading DVD-R's....how interesting....! It can't be ALL of the superdrives failing, so it's obviously a fault with the OS...seems to be a VERY common problem, so what's the problem in getting it fixed?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

  • Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion a gray bar sometimes appears when loading software?

Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion, sometimes a gray bar appears under the Apple that begins to shade to dark as it loads OS?  It does this on occasion.  One time the system loaded was VERY slow and terrible colors.  Pulled the plug, re-started the computer and it did not do this.  As I say, its only on occasion, not every time.  I noticed in the discussion page there were problems listed for 10.6 nothing for Lion.
    Please advise, if possible.

You should see this 4 option menu.  Click on Disk Utility:
In Disk Utility, Select FIRST AID and then VERIFY and then REPAIR the disk.
    Ciao.

How is the C6200 connected to the iMac, is it via USB or Wi-Fi? If it's via Wi-Fi please make sure it's connected to the router using the printer's Network Wizard. Then click System Preferences - Print & Scan and assuming the iMac is on the same network as the printer, if it is the printer should be seen. If it's not then click the + sign and add the printer. Apple provides instructions in Printing Overview OS X Lion

What version of Logic do you have?
And if you end up upgrading, it's only $199 now.

  • Since one month I have a new Imac with Lion.

Since one month I have a new Imac with Lion.
I installed Ilife'11: when I open IDVD it doesn't find the Idvd themes.
    What is happening?

To get to the App Store, you need to upgrade the Tiger machine to Snow Leopard.

  • Is it posiible to install FCS 3 on a brand new iMac (with topped specs)? It will come with Mavericks and that might be an issue....

I'm wondering if it is even possible to install the FCS 3 on brand new out-of-the-box Mavericks OS.... I need FCP 7 for my work. I allready installed FInal Cut Studio 3 on my Mavericks MacBook Air, but that OS was an updated one, from the previos version. It works greate (rendering is a nightmare though :-)).
The thing is that i have read meny post about People unable to Install Finac Cut Studio 3 on a brand new - not updated - Mavericks....
Will i I be able to install Final Cut Studio 3 on a brand new iMac with Mavericks out-of-the-box?

    Yes,
I have friends who have FCS 2009 (aka FCS 3) running on 10.9 machines from fresh installs.
Be aware that if you use a third party output device (Kona, Decklink, MXO, etc) you must have the updated drivers as well.
One friend had such issues with his Blackmagic Intensity card in a MacPro that he went back to an earlier OSX to find stability.

  • Who has a brand new Mac with Lion?

I've been reading about all these issues with Lion. (yes i realize most people who are happy don't post) Most of the time when someone has an issue someone else says that their system must have been screwed up prior to the upgrade or they did something wrong, or have software that causing the issue, etc. I'm wondering if any of you are having issues with Lion on a brand new Mac? A new computer that came with Lion or at least a brand new computer that you installed Lion on as soon as you took it out of the box. Something NEVER used without Lion.
Seems to me that if the vast majority of brand new Macs that come with Lion installed are working great then the problems people are seeing may in fact be something that already existed in their system prior to the upgrade. But if people with brand new virgin Macs are having issues with Lion then it HAS to be system bugs.
I think this information could be a good indicator if the OS has a ton of bugs or if it simply does not get along well with possible existing bugs your computer may already have.
I have two 2009 Macs and I'd love to upgrade to Lion because i like to keep my systems current but honestly I'm afraid too!!

I bought my iMac (mid 2011 model) in July (brand new) and have Lion 7.1 installed. I have found many things which I would class as being "a different way of doing things from what I am used to", through "oddities (some annoying)", and a few that are clearly bugs, such as the Magic Mouse pointer going AWOL for about 45 secs. once per day, very short mouse battery life (eg., a few days), Mail not showing the addressee when doing a word search. But I have not had any killer problems like many of the other posters such as Wifi not working. I just grit my teeth and hope that Apple will soon get things straight.
Someone said that Lion should have been classed as a beta release and I think there is some truth in that. However, it is important to realise that the people who post here are the ones with problems, not satisfied customers. How many Lions have been sold? A million?
I was put off initially when I got my iMac and was glad that at that time it came with Snowleopard, but I took the plunge and am glad that I did. I like many of the features in Lion.

  • Brand new iMAC, Mountain Lion installed, dashboard widgets will not download. Webpage times out. Any suggestions?

Just purchased a brand new iMAC and sucessfully performed download and install of Mountain Lion (free upgrade). Discovered that dashboard widgets will not download as webpage times_out in both Safari and Firefox. Already set security to allow downloads from 'anywhere' but with no change. Downloads from anywhere else works fine, just widgets won't work, and I've been trying for several days now. Any suggestions? (firewall is off).

  • Leopard iMac now,iPad2 now,new iMac with Lion coming in May,how do I handle moving to iCloud?

especially email, which is now in MacMail.
As titile says I have an aging pre Intel iMac running 10.5.8, an iPad 2 with the latest iOS and I am going to replace the old G5 iMac with a new iMac running Lion in May.
So I will transition my MobileMe to the Cloud before the world as we know it ends...
My question is whether I can get ahead of the game by using my iPad to move to the iCloud now, and catch up with the desktop transition later--will this result in chaos later?
I did not do a search for this because I could not fathom how to phrase the search .
I would be grateful if some iCloud gurus could unravel this for me.
    TIA
    Caroline

You can do either, if you migrate to iCloud now you will need to use iCloud.com from your browser to access your calendars and contacts though as iCal and address book will cease to sync.

How to I burn to a DVD my project edited on my new  imac
If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • Old iMac with Snow Leopard to new iMac with Lion - can I do this?

    Hi folks,
    1.  I have a 6 year old iMac running Snow Leopard (can't upgrade to Lion)
    2. Just bought a new iMac running Lion.
    3.  I want to migrate all accounts, files, apps, etc from old iMac to new iMac (about 150 Gb worth)..
    4. I would normally connect both iMacs either with an Ethernet cable or via wi-fi network and run Setup Assistant to move everything to the new iMac.
Based on my experience doing this on other Macs I have, I know it's gonna take 8 to 10 hours to migrate everything over to the new iMac so I'm looking for ways to migrate so my iMac isn't tied up all day and I don't have to spend all day in front of the computer making sure all is o.k.  So, if I make a bootable clone on a separate portable drive using SuperDuper, can I hook that drive up (instead of old iMac) to my new iMac and run Setup Assistant that way?  That would free up the old iMac to use while the new iMac crunches away copying all those files from the portable drive.  Will that work? Has anyone done this successfully?  Any cautions or things to watch for?
    Thanks everyone,
    Ed

    Linc,
Thanks for the info, but I want to use an external FireWire drive as the target disk, not the old iMac.  I'd need to keep the external FireWire drive connected to the old iMac in order to use the screen, keyboard, mouse, etc.  Could I just connect the FW drive to the new iMac and then start up the new iMac in hopes it would "recognize" the external FireWire drive through Setup Assistant?
