Brand new iPad Air 2 only charging to 99%?

i have a brand new Air 2 purchased today. Its been on charge since this morning and will only go up to 99% charge... its been like that for the last 4 hours... is this normal? am i doing something wrong? My trusty 4th gen always held full charge. I know its only 1% but dont know if this is a sign of a dodgy battery or something?

Memory effect has nothing to do with it. Calibration of modern batteries is all about the microprocessor control circuit for the battery being accurate. This affects charging and reporting.

The battery has an internal microprocessor that provides an estimate of the amount of energy in the battery as it charges and discharges. The battery needs to be recalibrated from time to time to keep the onscreen battery time and percent display accurate and to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. You should perform this procedure when you first use your computer and then every few months after that. If you normally leave your Apple portable computer connected to AC power and very rarely use it on battery power you may want to perform this process once a month. The website www.apple.com/batteries has more helpful information regarding batteries and offers an iCal calendar to remind you to calibrate your battery.

  • Malware on brand new iPad Air

I have a two year old IPad 2. my wife has a brand new iPad Air.  In the past five days we have both been infected with malware in the safari browser (and Chrome) which first pops up as ad cash, and then perpetuates to dozens of advertisment pages before freezing. Can anyone please help and advise on how to get rid.  We are in Thailand and suspect this might be chinese?

If you think there's some malware on your devices, you have to do a factory reset, as I suggested.
However, there are a couple fo steps you could try to avoid this. Go to Settings, Safari  and ensure that Block pop-ups is ON.
Then go to Settings Safari and choose Clear Website Data and History.
I expect Chrome has similar options, but I don't use it so I don't know what they are exactly.
That should give a you a clean start for Safari. If you think the issue results from a specific website, you can visit that site and see hether you get stung again. If so (a) repeate the steps abaove and (b) never go back to that site.
If you get the proble with all websites, then you must to do a factory reset.
The issue on Macs arises when people download (or are tricked into downloading)  malware such as MacKeepoer (an espedially notorious example). It is not possible to download and sintall this kind of malware on a non-jailbroken iPad. The *only* ways you can install on an iPad are (a) via the App Store or (b) via a developer profile or (c) via a jailbreak. That being so, the suggestion from otehrs that the porblem arises from a websitre (or maybe a group of websites) is almost certainly correct. The steps I outlined above will allow you to break the connection with those sites. If that doesn't work, factory reset

I bought a brand new ipad air, but I am not allowed to download ie. pages and keynotes for free, as promised?

The free only counts for devices activated after September. So first you need to activate the iPad (go through all the set up stuff), then, using the same Apple ID you used to activate the iPad, go to the App store and search for Pages, etc. When you download them you should see them for free.
Being free is tied to the Apple ID used to activate a device. For example, I bought my iPod in June, so I'd need to pay for the apps, which is why they're not universally free in the app store.
After you activate the iPad it may take a little time for the app store to realize 'yeah, just got a new device, this purchase is free'. I've seen people say they go right in, see it for cost, then go back in a little bit and the apps are now free.

  • My brand new iPad Air 2 is making a random popping sound.

My brand new iPad Air 2 is making a random popping sound and there are crackling sounds when I have the earphones plugged in and browsing with no music. Guy at Apple store could not replicate it when I walked in. Is this normal?
Should I get it replaced and what are the chances that its going to happen again?

Around here I've seen many posters that have renamed the ipad air 2 the "Ipop". You should read some of the older posts by clicking on View More at the bottom of the page until you come across it or do a search for Ipad air 2 popping noise. Last I saw it was hit or miss.  Good luck.

  • TS3274 brand new ipad. trying to charge it but keeps saying "not charging"  - am at 3%!

Brand new IPad - will not take a charge?  Am at 3%!  Any ideas?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • How do I transfer all my data from an iPad Air wifi 32 GB to a brand new iPad Air 2 64GB?

I received right now a brand new iPad Air2 wifi 64 GB. How do I transfer ALL MY DATA from another iPad Air wifi 32 GB ?

Back up your old one. I use and prefer iTunes, but back up all the data, etc.
Then unplug it. Plug your new one in and go through the setup steps. When you see the option to set up as new or restore from the backup you just made, choose that and your new iPad will be a near clone of the old one.

  • TS3274 My brand new iPad will not charge. What is wrong? What should I do?

Just took it out of the box. It's the best one. It remains at 41% after being plugged in overnight.

  • TS3899 My old iPad let me have 1000 emails, why does my new iPad Air only allow 200?  How do I change this?

I want the 1K emails I could have on my iPad 2. Can't figure out how to do this on my new Air.

I had an iPad 2 with iOS 5.1.1.  In the Mail, Contacts, Calendars selection and within it a Mail section.  Within the Mail section i could choose to show anywhere from 50 - 1!000 messages.  In my new iPad Air with iOS 7.1 i have no such option and it seems to max out at 240 meassages.
I have 1,209 earhlink emails on my old iPad dating back to Novemeber, on my new iPad i have 250 going back through March.
Is ther a setting i can chane to got the others?   Do they live in the cloud somewhere and i just dont know how to use it?
Thank you for you reply and your hekp.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would check to make sure Rotation Lock is not engaged.  The article below will walk you through that process and has some helpful troubleshooting steps if that does not resolve the issue.  In regard to your battery concerns, I would need more information regarding usage patterns and how you connect to a data network.  The best option for that would be to contact us here.

  • My brand new iPad air has been completely unresponsive and needed to be "hard restarted" twice.  What's up with that?

3 days ago, I purchased a new iPad air.  I've installed a few apps on it and have generally just been playing with it and figuring out the OS.  Yesterday, while trying to wake it up, I noticed the device was completely unresponsive, the screen would not even turn on.  I executed a hard restart (held down home and power for 10 sec).  That seemed to remedy it for the time being but it just happened again.  I'm concerned that this will be a recurring issue and will possibly degenerate into a bigger problem for my new iPad.  Is this a known issue?  If so is it a hardware or software related problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    My first reaction is, "Yuck!"
I participated not too long ago in this forum in a discussion about music on web pages. All people with any real experience were pretty much against it, unless there was some control that would allow someone to turn it off and on, with the default being set to "off." And, of course, I don't know how it would play with assistive technolology for blind persons (were I to add sounds to one of my web pages, my sister, who is blind, would kill me, I think).
You would need Ogg Vorbis audio in order for it to be playable in all browsers and I should mention that I had a real nightmare dealing with video on this website because I had not told Apache that Ogg is a supported MIME type. Firefox would not play the Ogg video until I edited the .htaccess file thusly:
    AddType audio/ogg .oga
    AddType video/ogg .ogv
    AddType application/ogg .ogg
I would imagine you would have to do that on any Apache server. Until you did this, your audio might be playable in some browsers and not playable in others, like Firefox.
But be careful to not totally distract people with your audio files. Audio on a website brought up in the workplace is usually a clue to others nearby that the person is not working for the company. The first thing that happens is that the page is immediately closed when audio starts coming out of the speakers.
