Brand new iPad (bought today) stuck in restore mode.

I just purchased a brand new iPad 32gb Wifi. I had it working great and was loving it. I put it down on the couch next to me in sleep mode and a minute later I look down and it is on the "connect to iTunes" screen. I tried to do a restore multiple times and keep getting errors 9 or 28 during the restore process. Is my iPad a lemon???

After about 20 attempts last night, letting it charge overnight, and then another 5 attempts this morning (no exaggeration!), it finally restored. In the process of syncing all the data (which I'd already loaded yesterday) but it appears to be working normally again.
I'd just like to know if there is anything to be worried about. The iPad was asleep when the "connect to iTunes" message first appeared. I'd really like to know the root cause of this issue to be sure it won't happen again. I travel alot and the whole point of buying this $600 toy was to enjoy it while traveling. If this is going to happen again while I'm away from a computer, I might as well return it.

why dose my new iPad (bought today) alway lock up when i use the acoustic guitar when I use  GarageBand???
it locks up so bad If I turn it off nothing happens, the only fix is to hooking it up to my iMac
    really ******* me off
    anyone else have this problem?
its the new 32 Gb wifi (NOT the G3)

Airplay needs to be enabled on ATV. Both need to be on the same network. Then you double tap (or swipe up) to bring up the multi-task bar and swipe (left to right motion) to get to the volume/brightness and airplay controls. Select ATV and toggle ON mirroring.

  • Cannot restore my brand new iphone 4s ,got stuck in DFU mode and itunes shows error code (-1) please help?

Cannot restore my brand new iphone 4s ,got stuck in DFU mode and itunes shows error code (-1) please help?
repeatedly tried from diffierent computers and the same error code pops up (error -1)

That's a hardware problem which will require a trip to the Apple store for evaluation, unless your phone has been jailbroken, then it's a corrupt hosts file (and we can't help you with that here as it is against the forum's terms of use).

  • Brand new iphone wont update, stuck in recovery mode

So I just bought a brand new iPhone 5S today, and when I plugged it into iTunes I saw that there was an update for iOS 7.1.2. When I tried to update my phone, iTunes downloaded the update but wouldn't apply it to the phone, instead giving me a "waiting for iPhone" message.  After a while I tried reconnecting the phone but iTunes stopped recognizing it and my phone was stuck with the iTunes logo and charger on-screen.  I then put my phone in recovery mode - no results.  I tried syncing it with another computer, but I can't restore the phone without it also installing 7.1.2, which doesn't work and just gets stuck on "preparing to restore iPhone."  Is there anything I can possibly do to make my new phone work again? Did 7.1.2 actually just kill my phone?

    Hello rph30,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
First, since your iPhone is not being recognized by iTunes, even though it is in recovery mode, please follow the appropriate link below for the computer you own:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Then ultimately go through the recovery process:

  • New iPad Air 2 stuck in recovery mode, won't restore

My mother recently bought a new iPad Air 2 and found that the Touch I.D wasn't working, so she called support and they told her to restore the iPad, which she tried. When she tried to restore the iPad it says an unknown error has occurred and the iPad can't be restored. Now the iPad is stuck in recovery mode and only showing the connect to iTunes screen. I've tried restoring from different computers and restoring from a downloaded IPSW. At the moment the iPad is a very shiny paperweight that can't even turn on
    Please help!

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Why do I have other people I cloud on a brand new iPad bought direct from Apple

    hi
i bought my husband a new ipad direct from Apple and when we go to set it up it has 2 other peoples iCloud details on it. We don't know who they are and considering its brand new it doesn't make any sense. Has anyone else had this issue? if so how did you resolve it please. I have tried to get in contact with my supposed contact person at Apple but he has not replied. When I ordered them he told me to contact him for support
    thank you

as I said something is NOT right
your iPad is NOT new if it already has an Apple  id attached to it
try putting the serial # into this genuine Apple Tool

  • Brand new iPad 2 got scratches how to claim?

I just bought a brand new iPad 2 today. I open the box on the spot and found out deep scratches. Would Apple responsible to replace a new? I complaint on the spot with Apple Premium Reseller. I from Malaysia, please give me your advise. Many thanks

This should be the responsibility of the reseller to handle. If you opened the iPad in the store and found scratches, you should have refused the unit and made them give you a different one. I would suggest you talk to the store management/owner and calmly and politely insist on an exchange.
If the store refuses to exchange your iPad, you can try calling Apple Malaysia at 1-800 803-638 and asking to speak with someone in Customer Relations, and if you can contact a Customer Relations representative, explain the situation and ask if there's anything he or she can do to help.
    Good luck and regards.

  • IPad 1 stuck in restore mode

    Hi,
After numerous attempts and remedies across the net my ipad is still stuck in restore mode, each time returning the follwing error code: The iPad 'iPad' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1). This is not the usual timing out error, or so I think, and must be something else. Is anyone able to help. Putting in DFU mode, trying to re-set just isn't working sop at the moment it's stuck not doing anything and all data has been lost on the face of it if I can't get to a backup. I've tried downloading the update and manually retoring but still nothing.
I've tried 3 different PC's, removing anit-virus, spyware and firewalls etc to no avail, so any other support welcome or it's out of the window!!!

My wife had a problem that sounds exactly like what you're describing.  She has OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.5 and tried to put the new system on her 3G iPad 1.  The backup went fine, but she got an unknown error 1 during the install of the new system.  We weren't using this iPad for development and it was never jailbroken.
We tried putting the iPad into recovery mode, switching cables, restarting the computer, salt over the left shoulder and everything else we could think of and discover via google.  My wife finally took the iPad to the "genius" at the Corte Madera Apple Store and he claimed it was a hardware failure and offered to sell her a refurbished iPad for $499. He wouldn't admit that there was any chance the problem was a result of the upgrade process.
Since we didn't believe that this "hardware failure" was a coincidence that just happened to occur during the system update, we persisted with our own attempts to solve the problem and ended up with a solution.
With the iPad in recovery mode, we turned AirPort off (and disconnected ethernet) on the Mac and restarted the update process in iTunes.  When iTunes said it couldn't connect to the Apple server, we turned AirPort back on for just long enough to get the update process to resume, then we turned AirPort off again.  After a while, iTunes tried to reach the server again and failed, so we turned AirPort back on for just a few seconds and then turned it off again.  After that, the update continued just fine and the iPad is no longer a brick.  We're pretty sure this wasn't just because the Apple servers were less busy.  We had the same error moments before doing the no-WiFi trick.

  • HT4437 I bought a brand new iPad 3 and an Apple TV, both connected to the same wpa protected wifi network from home. It worked for a day, but when I woke up, the Apple TV couldn't be found anymore by neither iPad, MacBook or iPhone. Any clue? Thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • Bought Brand new iPad 05/16/11 got broke yesterday Apple don't wanna honor the warranty...

My sister bought a brand new iPad last year at Verizon Wireless. It was purchased on 05/16/11. Yesterday, her iPad got broke. I checked the serial number and it says warranty expired already. We bought at Verizonwireless by phone and we a verizon wireless e-mail receipt that showing it was purchased on 05/16/11. However, e-mail receipt didn't have any serial number of the iPad, It's only a model number and how much we paid for it. Apple customer support don't want to honor the receipt or don't want to fix it. We were told to call Verizon Wireless and ask why our iPad says on their end it was purchased way back 2010. I bought it brand new and received it brand new sealed with match serial number on the box. Can someone here can help me how to resolve this problem? The standard warranty is supposed to be 1 year from the date it was purchase. Please help! I would really appciate it! Thanks!

Warranty will cover manufacturer's defects, but I doubt it will cover a situation where the iPad "got broke".  What happened to it?

  • HT4623 I bought a brand new ipad air, but I am not allowed to download ie. pages and keynotes for free, as promised?

I bought a brand new ipad air, but I am not allowed to download ie. pages and keynotes for free, as promised?

The free only counts for devices activated after September. So first you need to activate the iPad (go through all the set up stuff), then, using the same Apple ID you used to activate the iPad, go to the App store and search for Pages, etc. When you download them you should see them for free.
Being free is tied to the Apple ID used to activate a device. For example, I bought my iPod in June, so I'd need to pay for the apps, which is why they're not universally free in the app store.
After you activate the iPad it may take a little time for the app store to realize 'yeah, just got a new device, this purchase is free'. I've seen people say they go right in, see it for cost, then go back in a little bit and the apps are now free.

  • Brand new ipad stuck in recovery mode with error 21

Brand new ipad just out of box starting setting up and now its stuck in recovery mode and keeps giving error 21 - tried turning off firewalls as suggested and another PC... nothing working... is it a complete turkey or is it me?

Sorry I can't help with your issue. Just wanted to point out that it's not a good idea creating multiple posts on the same topic as it only serves to cause confusion, duplicate answers and divides responses between threads.

Posting in all caps is considered to be shouting at someone here in the Apple Support Communities and a very poor lack of manners. It will also likely bring about folks ignoring you.

  • What is the white horizontal line and red vertical line on my brand new ipad mini?

Bought a brand new ipad mini 2 for my sons Christmas, took it out the box and it was during the set up process, ie entering his iTunes and icloud account, a white horizontal line and a red vertical line appeared on the screen and is there all the time now.  Have tried switching off and on and resetting, but it is still there.  Any ideas??

    Hi Tolmivooz,
So the lines didn't appear until you were into the setup?
Does the orientation of the lines change when you rotate the screen?
Thanks for trying the restart and reset. Please see if a restore helps.
