Brand new ipad with passcode set?

Hi there
Just got a new ipad. Have managed to set up and sync but I keep getting the following error message. Itunes could not back up the ipad because it is locked with a passcode. I have not set a passcode - is their a default. Have done a system recover but that has not solved the problem.

Ipad is brand new and was sealed
passcode lock is set to off. It is not stopping me from using it as when I get the message I press cancel and it then goes on to sync. But know it is really going to annoy me. Will post back here if I ever manage to talk to apple support.

  • First of all thank you so much for the answer solution to my having to place card information to download free app games on the App Store which I never had to so many times during my restoring even to brand new my practically brand new iPad with retina d.

Anyways I tried the suggested solution and again reaching the review prompt and opting create new Apple ID doesn't take me to the option none on a card information or any billing account I am not meaning to sign in for. I'm just meaning to download free apps which I have done so many times now, I mean 3x. But still, the first time I had so much downloaded and I didn't have this problem. Please could someone help me? Or will I need to reset my content and settings again? This would be my 4 or 5th time to need to do so. If so, is it better I get my iPad with retina display replaced? Not wait for it's value and brand new value to it go low. I got it for an x'mas gift just this January 19 ,2013 from family and if it's better I avail of the free shipping and handling on apple's returns and exchange, then I will do so. Thank you so much again everyone.

    Brand new iPad 3 out of the box - set up problem. It says my Apple ID (email address) is already being used. I reset the password successfully but still says I need another Apple ID. Why won't the ID recornize me?

    Open current iTunes on your computer. Connect iPhone to the computer with the Lightning USB Cable. Hold both the Home and Power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up Sevice and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

    Looking for an information management solution.  I have three boys that have brand new ipad mini's.  I would like to set them up to manage information the easiest way. 
    My first thought was to use my apple ID for their apps and purchases.  This would give me the advantage of seeing everything downloaded and be able to monitor this closely.  The disadvantage to me, was that they would see all of my contracts, my apps, and my music. 
    My other thought was to create one new apple ID and to share that among the three boys.  This way I would not have to worry about my information being on their ipads. 
    This is a very confusing situation for me.  My goal is seperate my stuff from my kids stuff.  Appreicate input from anyone who has in-depth experience with this as it applies to apple ID, icloud ID, and any detailed explaination of how to do this would be appreiciated.  Thanks. 

    I think I will do this.  I will use my apple ID and set face time and message to work independently.  That solves one problrem.  My other problem and maybe my bigger problem is that if I am using my apple ID, how do I iflter all of this so that my kids don't see my contacts, get my apps, etc. ?

    The iPad was sealed in the box when I got it. It had the plastic screen protector wrapped all around it and when I powered it on for the first time it displayed the "connect to iTunes for setup" message displayed. The only other thing I can think of is if the person I bought it from had ordered it through Verizon on and the iPad was set up on a number on his pre-existing verizon account. My question is should I just keep using it and consider myself lucky? Since there is no way for Verizon to charge me for the usage because I never signed a contract. I realize that if it is on the account belonging to the person I bought it from, they will eventually figure this out and shut it off. But I might as well use it in the meantime right?

    Brand new ipad just out of box starting setting up and now its stuck in recovery mode and keeps giving error 21 - tried turning off firewalls as suggested and another PC... nothing working... is it a complete turkey or is it me?

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
    iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

    I have a similar problem: I switched from mac mail to Outlook 2011 as the default client, and want to switch back. Mailto links (eg from browser etc) default to Mail.  However, when I try to email a Word document as an attachment, it continues to open Outlook.  Outlook has a button in its prefs for making it the default client, but I don't see a way to turn this pref off in either Outlook or in Word.

    Received a "brand new" ipad mini 3 around a week ago.  However, it came with a photo in the Photos folder that was taken on November 23, 2014. The photo looks like a screenshot with the QR code along with the ipad model code and the serial number of the ipad. It also says 99% in the photo. Did anybody run into this?

    Sounds almost like an internal-use image (given the info that was in the image) that was not deleted or mistakenly taken before packaging. Did you try and scan the QR code (with another device that has the capability) and see what the QR code comes up as? (if it's internal use, it may not come up with anything)
    Regardless, that's the first I hear of it.

    There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
    Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
    iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
    For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
    All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

  • Brand new ipad- it won't auto sync with my PC

    I expected to pull out my brand new iPad and plug it into my laptop (windows) and it would be a simple automatic process to make them communicate. The iPad comes with this tiny card that makes it sound completely easy and automatic. That did not happen. I've re-booted my laptop and re-plugged in iPad. I've downloaded newest itunes. Nothing happens in my itunes to detect the iPad like it does when I plug in my ipod. The only thing on the iPad screen is a graphic of the USB cord pointing to and iTunes icon. then it goes black again.
    Help! I'm very disappointed that I'm wasting so much time searching for help on something I've spent so much money to invest in, hoping it would simplify my life. So far, not so good.

    Do you have any other iOS devices like an Iphone of ipod touch that connect to the computer?  Also make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements, and make sure you're connecting to a 2.0 usb port directly on the computer, not on a hub.
