Brand new iPhone 4 earpiece not working

Hi all,
I bought a fully unlocked iPhone 4 a few days back, I din't have a micro sim so I waited till today to activate the phone, I was checking the phone and found that earpiece is not working, I mean, I'm not able to hear anything on call, Calls through speaker phone is working and calls through earphones are also working, but the earpiece doesn't work, My phone is under warranty but the nearest Apple service center is 5hrs away from my place, just wanted to know if it's a software glitch or hardware problem.

If the device is in fact new, it is highly unlikely that it is running iOS 4.3.1.
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore.
Upgrading to the current version of iOS would also be a good thing to try.
If none of that resolves the issue, then it is hardware related.
Either return to the place of purchase for exchange (since you should still be within the return/exchange period) or take it to Apple.

  • Brand new iMac does not work wirelessly

    This is a very strange situation and I don't know how much to be concerned about it.
    6 weeks ago I bought the first of two brand new iMacs. We have two old G4s both wired into a Netgear wireless router, plus the printer. The first new iMac when switched on, immediately found the Netgear and has worked perfectly, wirelessly, ever since. As it should.
    Less than a week ago I bought the second new iMac, which is identical to the first. I put it on the _same desk_ as the Netgear, therefore a distance of only one foot. Straight out of the box, it worked wirelessly to register itself with Apple.
    Since then, it has only worked wirelessly very intermittently, and then very slowly indeed. I was wasting far too much time trying to figure out why the wireless did not work, and eventually wired it into the router too.
    I was attempting to set up a network with 2 old G4s wired in, and 2 new iMacs wireless. Now I have 3 wired in and one wireless.
    Is there something wrong with the second brand new iMac? Or is there some line I should be pursuing with Netgear?
    I have written all the IP addresses down in case anyone responding - and I sure hope SOMEONE responds! - thinks that this may be a clue.

    I phoned the software support which comes free for 90 days with a brand new iMac.
    The bright young man there instantly knew what the problem was, because he'd seen it all before. There's nothing wrong with the iMac and it has nothing to do with IP addresses.
    I have to go into the Netgear configuration screen and Enable MAC filtering. This means I'll give the router the hardware addresses of the two iMacs and it will then allow both of them to communicate wirelessly - but no other devices which might be lurking in the vicinity.
    Sounds good to me.

  • Brand New Digitizer Does NOT work...

    Hello, Im using an old Plam M505 to give me information VIA diagnostics on my car, just simple text. I bought it brand new never turned on flawless, and when I went to turn it on, The digitatizer does not work. Im stuck at the very first screen "use the stylis to tap the screen and continue" I tapped it, nothing, I can power no and off and dim and brighten the screen with the power button when its plugged in, but thats it. I charged it and it doesnt turn on unless plugged in. If the battery was never used and has been sitting there for 8 years its probibaly dead huh? also would that cause my digitizer to not work? Oh also when I push the application buttons it just beeps a little. One more thing the software does not recognise it, so I cant even access it through that.

    Hello dsmcraze, Welcome to the Palm Support Community!
    Always the first thing to try in any PalmOS "hiccup" is a Soft Reset.  Gently press the tiny "Reset" button on the back of the device to reboot it.  No information will be lost.
    Did you fully charge the device for 3 hours before using it?  Try plugging it into the charger and tap the Reset button.  This theoretically should reset the charging circuitry that monitors the "full" level.

  • Brand New iPhone 4 not turning on.

    Basically the title says it all, I've plugged it into iTunes and it recognizes it as an iPhone but it makes a beeping sound every 5 seconds and still doesn't work.

    Try forcing it into recovery mode, as described in this article.  Make sure your iTunes is up to date 11.1.3

  • Brand new ipod touch not working like it should??

    I have a brand new ipod touch that i got last tuesday.and every downloaded app will stop working after i have had it for about a day..like it starts to load the app then just goes back to homescreen..all pre-installed apps work fine.
    but i have tryed restoring my ipod and it doesnt really fix it because all the apps stop working just like before..and i have also tryed deleting and re-installing the apps but is still doing the same thing.
    Is there a way to fix this or should i get it replaced??

    Maybe your using too much Virtual Memory. Try holding the sleep/wake button and the home button until you see the silver apple.

  • TS4148 The sim card for my new iphone is not working and I can't get the sim card 'drawer' open - also can't get a telephone appointment with apple until Monday evening - any ideas?

    The sim card for my new iphone 4, purchased today, is saying the sim card is not installed.  I have followed the directions included on the support page but have two problems.  1.  I can't open my sim card sleeve with the key and  2.  I can't get any apple support until Monday evening - can anyone help please?

  • IPhone Earpiece not working

    My iPhone earpiece doesn't make any sounds. If I have the headphones in, I can hear a phone conversation, or if i have it on speaker, but when it's up to my ear I can't hear a thing. Is there a way to turn this feature on and off, that i accidentally did, or is this a real problem???

    Its a glitch. Try pluging in and unplugging the headphones about 8-10 times and it should clear up.

  • Brand new Airport Express not working

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I just bought my first Apple (mac book) and got the airport express. Hooked it up, set up my network, etc., and everything was working fine for the first 24 hours. Now, the Airport Express is not working. It is flashing the amber light which seems to indicate no internet connection....when I plug the ethernet wire directly to my laptop from the modem, the internet works. AND, the airport express seems to be working with the laptop (because I see my wireless network name in the menu of networks). Problem is, I can't get on the internet wirelessly anymore....so it seems the airport express is not getting the signal from the modem...but again, the modem is working fine when connected to the computer directly. I tried to reset the airport express and then go through the set up again, to no avail...still that flashing amber light. UGH.

    You're very welcome! The key is that DSL/Cable modems tend to "remember" the devices connected to them. The rationale of doing the power recycle is to give the modem an opportunity to "recognize" the newly connected device. Most of the time this re-recognition phase takes just a few minutes, but it's not unusual for it to take hours, and thus, why I recommend overnight to rule out any other issues.

    I'll lay odds there's a piece of lint or something stuck in the headphone jack. Take a look and try to get it out with a pin or something. Happens occasionally, pretty much always to men as opposed to women. Mainly because we tend to carry our phones in our pants pockets instead of a purse.

    I know you are impatient but better to wait until you get home and take your time thus eliminating mistakes.
    Connect the iPhone to your computer and follow the onscreen instructions. If you connect the iPhone to another computer first, you will have to re authorize your home computer. You don't want to do that.

  • Brand new ipod nano not working

    so i JUST received an ipod nano second generation today and i tried to hook it up to my computer and it seemed to work at first. and then my computer said that there was some sort of connection difficulty. so i unplugged it when it said it was ok to do so, but the screen still says "do not disconnect"
    i've tried to reconnect the ipod, turn it off, but nothing is working. the screen still says the same messgae. it looks like it's frozen or something. i dont know what to do

  • New iPhone 4 not working

    Hi.
    I have very upset situation here.
    I'm from Russia, i was in Spain so i bought simfree iPhone 4.
    When i got back i opened iphone 4. turned it on, connected it to iTunes on my mac, then screen goes black and nothing appeared on the screen then it started vibrating. all the buttons weren't working, i couldn't turn off my phone. In 4 hours it stopped. it doesn't work at all, no charge, no poweron. nothing.
    I'm very upset about it. And because i bought in Spain i can't go to local operators.
    What can i do in this situation?

    You won't get any support for this with the local operators in Russia including an exchange under warranty which sounds like will be needed.
    You must return to Spain with the iPhone for an exchange under warranty if needed. If Spain is in the EU, I understand it is now possible to get an iPhone exchange under warranty in any EU country as long as the iPhone was purchased in a EU country.

  • Brand new apple tv not working.  when i turn it on, the apple symbol shows up for a few seconds and then signal is lost but power on the apple tv stays on.  i've reset and unplugged several times but same thing happens.

    i hooked it up with hdmi cable - doubled checked all connections - connected power cord - set tv to HDMI input - the apple tv comes on and the apple logo shows up - after about 2 seconds signal is lost from the apple tv - the tv screen displays "no signal" - the power light on the apple tv remains on - i've reset and restarted but the same thing keeps happen - the logo shows up then disappears and all signal is lost to the tv

    I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
    In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
    When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
    Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

  • Brand new iPhone 4 not vibrating

    On Sunday 2nd I got my first ever iPhone yipee! Got it from t-mobile on a 2 year contract. However, as I came to use the phone in silent mode today I realised it wasn't vibrating at all. It is checked as on to vibrate both in silent mode and whenever I recieve a message or call in normal mode and yet I have never felt it vibrate. I downloaded the ibrate app and sure enough this didn't vibrate. From reading around I've tried leaving the app running, tapping the back of the phone all to no avail
    Even though I didn't buy my iPhone from apple should I still be booking an appointment at the genius bar or should I speak to someone at t-mobile first? If I go to apple is it likely to need to be repaired/replaced and how long should I expect these processes to take?

    hi could any one assist on this I just bought a P55T-A5202 laptop which has backlit feature, I have tried to turn it on but it doesnt seem to work. I have enable a keyboard function key to show in the monitor everytime I enable the back light, pressing FN +Z and it shows Back light ON, OFF and timer .. but the keyboard back light never turns ON. does anyone have any idea.. perhaps the BIOS.  everything else is working OK

    I have a p55t-a5202 that has a backlit keyboard.  I purchased it used about a week ago.  Initially the keyboard's backlight didn't work.  I simply powered down, the up again, and it began to work.  However, I can't toggle it off and on with the Fn + Z key.  Any thoughts?  I have  upgraded all drivers including the Fn key driver for the touch pad and keyboard.  I can toggle the touchpad on and off, but not the keyboard's backlite. Also, I have noticed the following about the keyboard: 1. On the top row of keys, the upper functions only are illuminated.  The lower functions (F1, F2, ........ Pause) are not. Is this normal?2. I also noticed that the Fn key, and the spacebar do not illuminate.  Is this normal?
