Brand new iPod classic 160 gb won't show up in iTunes devices

Brand new iPod classic 160 gb won't show up in iTunes devices. The iPod is fully charged, iTunes reckonises my iPod touch, iPad, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4, but not the iPod classic, although it says the iPod is connected it doesn't register in iTunes.

I purchased a new iPod Classic 160 GB in August 2013 and it (the iPod Classic device) would not show in iTunes though it did show in the Apple Finder. I tried EVERYTHING numerous times including resetting the iPod, updating iTunes and trying everything in the book and in on-line tips. Nothing worked and I was about to give up when I tried using the Apple iPod Classic cable that actually came in the iPod Classic box. It worked!!! Conclusion? Dont just use any old Apple cable eg. from a iPhone or whatever; TRY the USB cable that came with your iPod Classic!!! I have 2009 iMac with the latest Mac OS BTW.

Make sure the volume on the iPod is turned up fully, since this will affect what you hear through the stereo.
Make sure Volume Limit is set to full. (From Main Menu, Settings/Volume Limit)
If you purchased your iPod inside the EU (European Union), then the maximum volume from the headphone jack is lower than elsewhere in the world. If this is the case, buy yourself a 30-pin Dock Connector to 3.5mm jack lead, such as the one linked here...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Decrescent-Connector-Stereo-Auxiliary-iPhone/dp/B007NIE5 EE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386012456&sr=8-1&keywords=30+pin+to+3.5mm
That connector will take a higher volume out (than the European Union's output) and that will be louder (and hopefully loud enough) through your stereo.

  • ITunes 10.6.1 (7) freezes when syncing brand new iPod Classic

In my attempts to sync a brand new iPod Classic (160 GB) with iTunes I only get a freeze up of iTunes, where only a force quit helps to terminate the hang. I have of course done all the usual, i.e. restored the entire iPod Classic, restarted my Mac, made sure all software is the latest software. All to no avail.

Syncing a 160GB iPod Classic, may take a long time, so better to stop all other process or apps, when you do it.
Especially, disconnect all other USB devices and connect the iPod directly to the body of the Mac and not to the Keyboard USB port or any USB hub.
I think you have done all other suggestions, that I can think of.
Except doing a Disk Diagnostic on this new iPod, and send it back to Apple if the DD report is bad, refer to this earlier post by tt2

  • Itunes won't sync to my brand new ipod classic.  It says "The Ipod cannot be synced because it cannot be found.

I have been onto Apple by phone, and into the Apple store where both of them recomended that it gets replaced.  I did, got a brand new ipod classic, and i still have the same problem.
I have attempted to restore, but it won't let me for the same reason.
On a couple of occations it starts to sync!!  however it goes through practicly the whole syncing process (12,000 songs, heaps of videos) and then just freezes up! The little rainbow orb spins forever until i have to force quit.
I have had my old ipod and my partners ipod regestered and used on the one itunes with no complications whatsoever, our old ipods sync perfectly with no problems at all.
    very frustrated.
    Is it my Ipod Box?
    Or is it Itunes?
or does it not like me having more than two ipods registered?
with the last new ipod which was replaced and the current new ipod that's a total of 4 ipods regestered on the one itunes
My partner has a Dell Laptop with Microsoft.  I downloaded Itunes on there, ripped one cd, formatted the current new ipod, and it synced the one cd i ripped with no trouble at all.
Has anyone else had the same problem with their Ipod Classic?
    Mick

Is iTunes up to date (10.7)?  Have you tried plugging the iPod into a different USB or using a different USB cable?
I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread to check your Hard Drive's health.  He always covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

I have a brand new Ipod classic (Christmas 2012-13), a newish laptop (2012) and have just downloaded the latest version of iTunes.  However, despite iTunes working fine on the laptop, the ipod being recognised by the laptop/iTunes, telling me it is synchronising, it actually won't synch.  I have reset the ipod, tried different USB ports, restarted the laptop, and uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes, but still not working.  Can anybody help ?

Well, I don't know if that's a software or hardware problem.  You should take it to Apple Genius Bar or send it to service center.  And one more thing, Its not synch......  Its Sync...  Just saying...  It would help if you send pictures of the problem.  Such as the screen of iTunes saying it's syncing.  It will help everyone and me...

  • New iPod Classic 160 GB not read by MacBook

My new iPod Classic 160 GB is not read by my MacBook.  It doesn't show up in Finder or in iTunes.  What can I do so my computer recognizes it?

Swap to another USB 2.0 port and dont use any USB HUB. (only one of the Macbook USB port can be use for iPod Classic)
If that doesn't work, use another  USB cable.
When you connect to the Macbook USB port, the iPod screen should show this symbol.
    Battery charging (lightning bolt
    or
If you get just the menu screen, it means there is no signal or power coming across the cable from the Macbook to the iPod.

  • Will charger that comes with iPhone 3GS charge my new iPod classic 160?

I have an iPhone 3GS; which comes with a charger. I recently purchased a new iPod classic 160; which doesn't come with a charger.
Will the iPhone charger charge my iPod without damaging it?
It appears to work (shows it's charging), but I want to make sure they're compatible.
    Thanks.

Yes, I have the same question- the old classic came with the charger (the rectangular white one). We travel alot and don't take our laptops with us so we need to charge ipods with chargers. So we can still use the one that works with our old classic or the new one, right?

  • Brand new Ipod touch 5th generation won't charge.

Hi! So i just got my brand new ipod touch 5th generation in the mail. I went to turn it on but there was no power, so then i plugged it in to charge, but now every time i try to turn it on, the red battery charge symbol shows up, and its been charging for an hour now. I have used many apple products before and they usually dont take that long to charge. Does anyone know what the problem is?
    PLEASE HELP!
    thanks.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Classic 80-gig won't transfer purchases to iTunes Library, nor will it sync. Please help!

My iPod Classic 80gb will not transfer purchases to my iTunes library. When I click the "Transfer Purchase" button, it says it's working, but then I get a pop-up which reads 'Attempting to copy the disk "OS" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)', and following that pop-up is another pop-up, which reads 'The iPod "William's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-69).
I need to transfer the purchases, because I had to restore my laptop (Which is a PC, by the way) to the original factory settings, and I had to re-download iTunes. When I re-downloaded it, I logged in and everything, but all my music was missing. I clicked the "Purchase History" button in the account part, and I clicked the "Download" button in order to regain my lost music, and I waited about 45 minutes or so, only to come back to iTunes saying it had finished, when it had only re-downloaded 75 of my 279 songs.
After this, I went into the help section of iTunes. In that, I clicked "Manage your media files," and from there, I clicked on "Find iTunes files." So, I did what it told me to do, which was to run a full scan on my PC, and I looked everywhere I could think of, and everywhere iTunes suggested my missing music might be located, only to find that I wasted my time.
I am a musician, I CRAVE the music I listen to, and I'm constantly finding new stuff to listen to and research, and if I can't transfer my purchases or sync my device to my library, then that means I can't get new music to listen to on the go, and for me, that is an extreme issue. Obviously, restoring my device is not  an option, because I have nothing to sync it to to get my music back.
Please, if anyone can help me with my situation, I'd be forever grateful.

  • I bought a brand new ipod touch 5th gen, updated the software and now iTunes says "to allow access, please respond on your ipod touch" however the ipod has a black screen and pressing the buttons does nothing. how do i fix this?

As the title says, this is a brand new iPod touch bought from a store, I plugged it in a commenced the "setting up" process through iTunes on may iMac. It got to the stage where it said allow this computer to access the device (or something along those lines), i clicked yes, and then a message came up "to allow access, please respond on your iPod touch. however the ipod screen is black, and pressing the buttons doesn't work. How can i fix this? or do I need to return it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Brand new ipod classic won't sync to itunes 11.

I just got a brand new 160gb ipod classic for Christmas, and when I tried to sync it with itunes it wouldn't work. I ran the diagnostics and it failed the sync tests, and apple's help/troubleshooting page does not give any solutions to this problem. I have the latest version of iTunes and my computer is a Windows XP. What do I have to do so I can sync my ipod?

I posted as other have that there is something wrong in iTunes going on with the syncing of these classics. First my wifes stopped being recognized in the diagnostics. It says there is no phone, ipod or ipad attached, but iTunes shows its attached. then I called my daught up and had her check her iTunes version and she is also at the latest version online. I asked her how long has it been since she knows she has synced her music...she said a week or so.
I asked her to download any podcast or free music and try to sync. Her Classic 160 did the exact same thing 200 miles apart. Both iPods previously worked with no problems for years. Now neither is detecable in the iTunes diagnostocs. I unloaded and reinstalled a clean iTunes on my wifes win 7 x64 laptop that she has used since the ipod was new (years). No good.
I know Apple is going to find a problem either with the mobile service or something else that is going to be the cause of this syncing or not syncing issue.

  • Brand New iPod classic won't turn on.

Minutes after getting home with my new iPod I plugged it into my computer and synced my library with it, afterwards it asked me to install an update and I let it, it told me it was going to reboot, it shut off and now it won't turn back on. I know there's some life in it as when I hold down the reset combo i hear windows indicate that I've disconnected and reconnected a USB device however nothing displays on the screen and iTunes tells me that it cannot recognize the iPod. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an additional note now when the I connect the iPod windows lists a "Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver" in device manager.

  • Silly noise on brand new ipod classic????

Hi .... I have recently bought an ipod classic 160gb. I was looking forward to finally getting an apple gadget - everyone always says they're so good.
The first thing that I noticed is that it makes this high pitched noise every time you select a song.... It doesn't do it every time, but if you selected 100 songs ... it would probably do it 50 - 60 times out of that 100....
I took it to the genius bar and they told me that all ipod classics do this, that it was the hard drive working and that it was nothing to worry about. I have never had any gadget, mp3 player or even phone make this noise when scrolling through music... In a loud environment you would never hear it, but in a quiet room - say a library, study or an office it can be heard from a few feet.
I accept that hard drives make noises sometimes, but I've never had a device do this before - it's like a little laser sound every time you change track. It's quite annoying and not a very good start for something that was brand new for the price of £190.
Has anyone else experienced this? I tried to exchange it, but the shop said they could see nothing wrong. Do they all make this sound or was I just being fobbed off a bit?
Thanks if anyone has any thoughts.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply. A lot of people seem to say that which sounds good, so at least it's not broken. Thanks... But it still means it will always make that little beep sound every time it's used... A bit annoying in quiet places like when studying...

  • Brand new iPod Classic will not sync with iTunes.  All my older devices are fine, but as soon as this is connected, iTunes stops responding when it says it's "determining tracks to sync."

Also, the iMac I'm connecting it to is brand new as well - replacing a slightly older one.  My complete library got imported during setup and, like I mentioned, my older iPod classic synced fine, as did our iPhones.  Thoughts??

Is the Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?  If so disable this feature and then try resyncing the device.
