Brand new iPod touch and January update

I need your help to make a decision on iPod touch purchase. If I buy iPod touch now, the day after Macworld, will I get new apps for free? I searched apple.com but haven't been able to find the answer. This is essential, because there's no iTunes store in my country and I won't be able to buy the apps. The only way to get them is download free update.
Anyone has official information on that?

I did see someone say that if you bought your touch in 2008, you can get the update.
I don't know if it's true or not, but it may be worth a phone call to Apple to find out.
Cheers!

  • I have a brand new Ipod touch and it will not sync.

I have a brand new ipod touch and I cannot get it to synch with my itunes.  I have two other Ipod Nano's that will synch up just fine.  The computer has windows XP with the latest service pack on it.  It does not recognize it as a device in windows, but sees my other two ipods.  I have the latest itunes software on it.  I even uninstalled it and reinstalled per the apple web site.  I connected the ipod touch to another cpmputer and the usb port sees it as a device just fine.  What do I need to do to this thing to get this computer to see it?

  • I bought a brand new ipod touch 5th gen, updated the software and now iTunes says "to allow access, please respond on your ipod touch" however the ipod has a black screen and pressing the buttons does nothing. how do i fix this?

As the title says, this is a brand new iPod touch bought from a store, I plugged it in a commenced the "setting up" process through iTunes on may iMac. It got to the stage where it said allow this computer to access the device (or something along those lines), i clicked yes, and then a message came up "to allow access, please respond on your iPod touch. however the ipod screen is black, and pressing the buttons doesn't work. How can i fix this? or do I need to return it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have a brand new ipod touch and it wont connect to itunes or my computer!!??

I have a brand new ipod touch however when I connect it to my computer, itunes does not recognise it and neither does my computer. The drivers have downloaded and are showing working. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes as discussed in support centre however nothing seems to work. The ipod itself just has the connect to the computer on the screen, is fully charged and when plugged in a little lock sign comes up for a second or two above the itunes icon!!! Let me know if you have any further suggestions please.

Thanx for you suggestions, I used my old xp laptop...update software and my ipod connected however the memory is not large enough to hold my itunes library so I could see it was not the cable or the ipod at fault.
I have tried to connect to my vista laptop again and have tried all of the suggestions in troubleshooting again...I have even upgraded to windows 7 to see if that cleared the problem....and....my computer has located my ipod but is only recognising it as a digital camera so back to the drawing board...
Please have you any other suggestions???

  • New iPod Touch with January Update Restore Question

    Hi,
Few days ago i bought new iPod Touch with 1.1.3 software and January Update.
When I restore it I'll lose my January Update programs ? And if that happened what can I do to get them back ?
PS. Sorry for my poor english :P
    Cheers

It was mentioned already in this thread. If you look at the package check the seriel number. If it ends with /B then that is the new model and it has the new applications that were provided in the Jaunary update already programmed into the iPod. If you restore you will not lose them.
If it ends with /A then it is an older model that required the January Update in order to get the applications on your iPod. If you restore then you will lose them but you don't need to purchase them again as your iTunes will keep track of the purchase for you.

  • Brand New iPod Touch will not update or restore.

Ok this is getting really annoying.  I have tried to update my Ipod touch and I keep getting the same message: The iPod "xxx " Could not be updated.  This device isn't eligible for the requested build.  So after all of that i tried to restore my iPod and i recived the message The iPod " " Could not be Restored.  This device isn't eligible for the requested build.  My Ipod is brand new and is not jail broken.  Please can someone tell we what is going on.  this is the most problems i have ever had with a apple product.

    ckoury,
Make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes.

  • Brand new ipod touch without january upgrade features included?!

I just bought my ipod sunday, it has john lennon on the box, model #A1213.
I dont recall what firmware it came with but I updated it to 1.1.4 as instructed by itunes summary page. Also I get an ad on start up of itunes to purchase the january upgrade. Shouldn't it already have the new features like mail, maps, the rearranging of the icons option, etc from the january upgrade?
Should I return the thing to the store and get a new one, or is this normal?

    Welcome to the Forums!
All iPod Touches are model A1213 (including my very early 8 GB model from when they were first released). So, yours was most likely produced before the January upgrade. Check the part number on the box - if it ends in /A (e.g. MA627LL/A), it won't have the upgrade installed. If it ends in /B (e.g. MA627LL/B), then it should have the upgrade installed.
An Apple Store won't sell the old ones, but 3rd party retailers that have them will sell them (rather than take a loss!). Some retailers sell them at a "discount" of $20 off the Apple price. You can certainly complain to the store and ask for a new one, or get your $ back and look for one in another store - just check for the part number ending in /B.
    Hope this helps...

  • IPod Touch and January Update

can anybody help me here is my issue.
Okay so I bought the January update for my iPod touch when it came out in January and a couple weeks ago I had to reinstall windows on my computer. I then had to restore my iPod Touch cause it went all screwy and now it no longer has the January update on it. I read one of the articles that apple posted but they said that it has to be on the exact user account and computer that you purchased the update from. Considering I reloaded windows, its like I got a new computer and don't have the same user account. Can someone help me get the update back

Yeah, those are the first places I would have looked. The data isn't stored in the iTunes library, so even someone who was conscientious enough to back up their iTunes library before reinstalling the OS or moving to a new computer could likely lose that data. Even though it seems (for now) that Apple is more than willingly reauthorizing the downloads, their long history of "back it up or lose it" regarding iTunes purchases makes me wary of the longevity of this solution when, down the line, folks start getting new computers and many more find their iPods are not updating.
Jason: I would like to offer a suggestion if you check back on this thread. Either that data should be in a more obvious place (I know it's the same place as other iPod updates are stored, but I didn't pay for those!) so a user doesn't delete it or at least better instructions should be released in a more conspicuous place. I tried a search of "iPod Touch update move to new computer" and got zero results. Maybe introduce the location with the next go-round? Maybe an entry in notes or an alarm in calendar? I don't know. It just seems less than efficient to have to go begging for a re-download. Especially from Apple. Not very elegant.

I have a brand new, just out of the box, ipod touch that will not connec to my home wifi. The connection works with all other devices.

  • Ipod touch and january update help.

    hi
i just reinstalled windows xp in my computer and i didnt back up the january updates from my itunes folder. when i synced my ipod after the reinstall it said i had to restore the ipod and after that the jan updates were gone.
someone at the apple store suggested going into itunes store and making sure i could see that i had purchased the jan updates and then scncing the ipod which i did...still didnt work.
can anyone help. the updates no longer exsist on my machine so i was hoping i could download them again without having to pay the $24.99 again or even waiting for the july 11 updates.
    help...please

If you didn't back up the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file before you reinstalled your OS, your apps are gone, for now. It's an iTunes Store purchase, just like any music/videos purchased, and if not backed up, it's gone if you lose/wipe your HDD.
Apple has removed the January Upgrade from the iTunes store, so spending the $19.99 to get it back is not even possible.
Your best bet at this point is to wait for the July Upgrade (coming July 11th).
    Hope this helps...

  • Brand new Ipod Touch, tried to update, stuck in recovery for hours

I just received an iPod Touch today. I hooked it up to itunes, played around with it for a bit, with no problems, and several hours later downloaded the upgrade 2.02 from the itunes store. I followed the directions. In the process of downloading, I noticed that it seemed to be stalled on "Verifying Ipod Software" for over an hour. The screen of the ipod displays the Apple logo and the little circular icon that indicates progress beneath it (which had stopped for some time). After several hours and after searching for answers here, I figured that there must be a problem. I couldn't do anything in itunes and the only thing to stop the downloading was to force the ipod to shut off. I hated doing this, but I knew something was wrong and there was nothing else to do. I discovered that itunes was actually frozen and I had to force quit that, as well.
I started up the ipod again, and of course, it indicated that I needed to plug in the USB cord. I did and it prompted me to restore. I tried to do that and came up with the 1604 error. Tried it again, same thing. Then, when I restarted the ipod, I came up with a white screen, which was quite scary. I shut down my computer and started it back up again. I began the recovery process, which, this time, went smoothly, until I hit the "Verifying iPod Software" section. It's been over an hour and it's still on this. The progress bar isn't moving forward, it's the sort of moving stripes bar, if that makes sense. iPod screen is frozen. I'm afraid to either disconnect/quit again, or leave it. I'll have to disconnect at some point to take it to the Apple Store, but I'm afraid I'm only damaging it further.
I know these questions have been asked here, but I'm not even expecting an answer to the root of the problem (I'm used to this madness, as a frequent Apple customer). I just need to know whether it's better to quit this recovery and disconnect, or just keep leaving it. How long until I KNOW that it's not working?

Well, I figured since I had nothing to lose on the ipod (since I'd already stopped the updating once), I would just do it again, and try to restore it without the firmware upgrade. Because the ipod worked just fine with its original settings. The exact same thing happened - itunes was frozen.
So I went through the process again, only this time I followed some advice from another thread, tracked down the folder where the firmware update was stored, and trashed it. Then I tried to restore the ipod again. Well, it turns out that there's no going back to the old version. It merely downloaded the firmware update yet again. I let it go, figuring that there could have been something wrong with the first download and I'll wait and see. Now, I'm in the "Restoring Ipod Software" section. I have a feeling nothing will change. So, I'll be taking this to the Apple Store tomorrow (and raising ****).

  • Brand New Ipod Touch and already issues

Alright, before I begin, I'm running 32bit Windows Vista Home Premium on an AMD Dual Core 1.9ghz processor with 2gb ram, as well I've had an iPod Nano before getting this iPod Touch without any problems before hand.
I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled with a clean download from the apple website of iTunes (To ensure new drivers, etc), I plug in my iPod Touch to let it charge and to connect to start transferring music. I start up iTunes, plug my iPod Touch, first thing I see on the screen of my iPod is an error from what I've researched before writing this post. A USB cord with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo.
First thing I do, I've already uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, restarted my computer, and ensured that iTunes was up to date. Check, check, and check.
I had also noticed while my iPod was plugged in, was that whenever I would try to connect it to iTunes, I would be presented with was : "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple mobile device service is not started."
Thought to myself, that's odd. I went to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, located "Apple Mobile Device", and next to it was blank. No "Started", no "Stopped", nothing, just blank. I right clicked on the service and went to properties to check and see if it was set to start up, it was set to Automatic. I switch to Manual, tried to start it again but presented with "The Apple Mobile Device service started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs", Switched it back to Automatic, same issue.
Take into consideration, I have my avast! antivirus down. So I have no issues with antivirus/firewall going on right now.
I have checked my drivers for the iPod under Device Manager, Apple Mobile Device has shown up and has been installed correctly, including "USBAAPL.SYS", was showing no problems installing.
I sincerely do not know what to do beyond this point. I figure something is wrong with the Service, either that or iTunes is royally screwing something up. The error on the iPod I know means that it needs to restore itself with the help from iTunes, but iTunes is neglecting its presence (To my knowledge)

not sure, but i think bonjour also has to be running. check it out.
ah, under the startup type, are u saying that field is blank, rather than "manual", "automatic", "automatic (delayed start)" or "disabled"??

  • Hi have brand new ipod touch and the screen has frozen with the apple icon and a blank recharge bar below it any ideas how to fix this please

    u there

Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next connect it to your computer and try to restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.

My Itunes doesn't says its connected or anything. I plugged the usb into the computer, my computer makes the noise saying the ipod is plugged in and I don't know how to fix it. help?

If you mean that the iPod does not appear in iTunes then:
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
    Then try

    I would start with:
