Brand New Ipod Touch-Can't Get Music under "music"

This is my very first Apple product EVER!
Got a brand new Ipod touch generation 4.  Downloaded two albums on Itunes, then synced it with my Ipod touch.
When I go to use my Ipod, I got to the "music" icon, but i have NO music.
I go to the "more" option and 9 out of 10 times, I'm only given THREE options there "Compliations, Composers, Genre".  Only once or twice in the last 72 hours, have I had an additional option of "shared".  When i do have the "shared" option, I can see the music that I've downloaded.  I click on it as if to play it, and it sort of seems like it's playing it, but I hear NOTHING.
Please help me, I'm so frustrated!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Brand new Ipod Touch can't been seen in Itunes

    Hi there,
I hope someone can help as this is driving me mad!
I have just received a brand new Ipod TOuch but when I connect it to my PC per the installation instructions I get the following message "Itunes could not connect to the Iphone because an invalid response was received from the device"
I have uninstalled all Apple products from my PC and reinstalled most up to-date version of Itunes.
I have tried different USB ports.
I have stopped and re-started the "Apple mobile device" and "Ipod Service" services.
I have done all of the above in various combinations and re-started my PC numerous times.
None of this makes any difference.
The Ipod does not appear in my "My Computer" but when go into device manager on "My Computer" it is listed there so it would appear that my PC can see the Ipod.
I tried it on another laptop and a brand new installation of Itunes sees the Ipod fine, no problems.
However I have previously used an Ipod Nano on this PC and this I think is what is causing the problems.
I have listed below the content of the Itunes Diagnostics file in the hope that that will help. I see that it does mention the Ipod Nano previously used.

Okay, I had this same issue as soon as I updated to iTune 8.2. Someone gave me an idea about renaming a certain file, which I thought worked for a little bit. The issue came back and I am back in the same boat!
The bad news is to find a version of iTune 8.1. Uninstall everything and then reinstall iTune 8.1. This has worked for some; however, some have even had to restore their iPod Touchs!
I am giving in and doing this tonight. I waited as long as I could for the fix. My wife has an iPhone and we have NOT upgraded her iTunes to 8.2 because I have read iPhone users having a similar issue. If her iPhone died, then that would be ultimate deal breaker.

  • Brand New Ipod touch can't connect to windows.

I bought a brand new ipod touch today and when I connected it to my laptop windows comes up with a message saying that the usb device is not recognised. I have the latest update for itunes and all of the correct drivers are installed. I have tried resetting the iPod but nothing works. Anyone got any ideas? I'm running vista if this makes any difference.

    A Vista
B Apple services are not well tuned for Windows
C USB ports on some computers (don't use a hub, use direct to MB connections)
iOS Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
I have to go into Services with iTunes closed, and restart the three Apple items, Apple Mobile, Bonjour, iPod.
Safari 5.1 Apple Common software support 2.x also seemed to muck around a bit. All Apple software leaves behind reinstall caches of all verions too.
AppData - clean out so that starts fresh
Upgrade to 7 SP1. (I assume you are on SP2+ now for Vista)

  • Previous iPod Touch worked fine, new iPod Touch can't get an IP Address

I had a version 1.1.4 iPod Touch for several days and it worked quite well. I was able to automatically connect to wireless connections at work, at home and at my parents house without meddling with any wireless settings and by just using DHCP.
The other day I exchanged the iPod Touch for a different one, due to a defect in the case manufacturing, and with this iPod Touch, I haven't been able to connect to any of the previously mentioned wireless networks. I noticed that I wasn't able to get an IP address at all at my parents house, but I figured it was because I hadn't upgraded to 1.1.4, and was still at 1.1.3. I upgraded to 1.1.4 though this morning and at the work network, I'm having the same issue. I can easily connect to the wifi networks, but if I look at the DHCP settings, it's all blank. I can't get an IP address.
I looked around the forum here and found a great deal of people who for some reason couldn't connect to their particular wireless setup. This problem however is different in that I could easily connect to many wireless setups, but now that I've seemingly just switched to a different iPod Touch, I can't connect to the same ones at all.
It seems weird to me that the issue could just be that I got a different iPod, and I really think there must be some other reason, but I can't think of one. From all outward appearances they're the exact same. Same networks, same version.
What else could be the issue?

If your new Touch can't get on any network, then does it have a MAC address assigned to it? Go to Settings/General/About and scroll to the bottom to see if you have a "Wi-Fi Address", which is the MAC address assigned to your particular unit.
    See this article for reference:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306067
If you're able to get on some networks but not others (where you had no problem before) then perhaps there is a subtle difference in the new unit's performance. You can try restoring it to see if that helps, but that means erasing everything and starting over.

  • New iPod Touch, Can't get iTunes to work, extra headaches

    Hello,
This is my first day in the Apple world: I caved and thought it would be good to get a new mp3/video player after my last one died. I ended up getting a 4th Gen Black iPod Touch - not sure if the color matters, but why not?
Anyway, my second problem (first being the weird packaging, of tape through plastic then stuck on) started with iTunes: the thing just would NOT download. Every time I tried, the website kept saying "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to completecould not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." That's just great: I can't get any music or video ONTO my iTouch without iTunes...right?
After browsing around I found an older version of iTunes that seemed to work. Yay! But not really. Nobody ever mentioned that .flac and .avi files can't be imported into iTunes at all...so I had to go hunting online for third party converters. This took care of THAT problem...
However, now that conversion is up, the older version of iTunes won't pick up my iPod Touch and Sync it. There is actually a "Sync iPod" button under "File" tab, but it's grayed out and I can't use it.
Not entirely sure if this is why, but according to a few people, when a new iTunes comes out, the older one stops functioning as fully as it originally did, forcing people to upgrade their iTunes in order to make it work like normal.
I tried to find a third party program to pick up my iPod Touch so I could upload files, but no luck. I feel like an idiot for not knowing how to turn source code into a program, and the binary installers I did find were user-hostile (ie. Right clicking to bring up a menu actually plays the movie and there's no stop button, you have to end task from the task manager). Windows Explorer only shows one folder in my iPod Touch, which is empty and four letters long, which gives no clue as to what it is.
So here's my big question: now that I finally am fully ready to upload my files to my iPod Touch, I can't. Why?
Is it my version of iTunes? Why can't I download iTunes' newest version? Why does updating from the older version yield the same result (though I'm sure both installers are the same)? Is there another way to get all my media onto my device?
Thanks in advance...talk about a four hour headache...

I've used the Reset Network Settings feature in my iPod Touch after every failed attempt to connect to my wireless network. I've also reset the wireless access point and router after making changes to them.
It appears that my Touch is finding the wireless network, accepting the security password/key, and connecting to the wireless access point and router (I get a full signal on the strength indicator). However, the Touch appears to be acquiring the IP Address automatically, right? Thus, it gets the IP Address starting with "169". If I can manually set up the TCP/IP settings, I believe I can get it to connect. Is there a way to set up the TCP/IP settings manually?

  • Brand new ipod touch, $10 to get 2.0!

Ordered Monday (on my son's AppleID as part of buy a mac, get an ipod free). Delivered yesterday, registered this morning (using my AppleID). Had it laser engraved and my son tracked it from China->Alaska->... so we can be somewhat certain it isn't month old stock that was sitting in shrinkwrap somewhere.
Now Apple wants $10 to upgrade it to 2.0! QCC?
Why didn't it come with 2.0 already installed?
Apple/iTunes is apparently smart enough to figure that his six month old ipod touch wasn't eligible for upgrade based on this new purchase, but not smart enough to tell that the new one should be free?

    Hi,
It is easy to understand your annoyance and hindsight is 20/20 but had I been ordering a new Touch I would have checked and double checked the firmware situation. Contacting Apple by both Email and phoning an Apple store.
At the online store it does not say anywhwere (that I can find) what firmware is on new Touches. The fact that the 2.0 upgrade is so heavily advertised along side the Touch might have been a clue.
Updating a Touch during shipping would be totally impractical, you require the update file on your own HD. Also, putting what is now appearing to be a not quite 100% solid software update on a brand new item may have been a good move for both parties.
As it appears the Touch is not yet shipped with 2.0 and no one out there is getting a better deal, I don't think you have been that hard done by.
    Dud.

  • Brand new ipod touch (4th gen) no longer plays music. is there a way to fix it by myself?

I just bought the 4th gen ipod touch on tuesday. I downloaded some music from my brothers itunes account and purchased songs thru the ipod itself as well.  I also have downloaded a few free apps as well.  tuesday and wednesday morning the ipod worked perfectly fine, however last night i was listening to music and playing the free solitaire app i got and it would play a few songs then stop. id restart the song, it would play a few and then stop. finally i stopped playing solitaire thinking you cant play a game and listen to music (im new to ipods and mp3s so i have no idea how to work it).  Now, my ipod works with everything but music. When i click music it is frozen on a black screen whenever i try to do anything in music and no music plays. Is there a quick fix or do i need to take it back to bestbuy where I got it?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next restore from backup va iTunes
    - Then restore to factory defaults/new iPod.  For how to restore see:

I have looked at the "More" part but again radio is not an option.
    Can you help?

Just wait a bit.  Turn it off, then back on.
I don't know why, but after the update it doesn't show up right away.
When it finally does, you will find a red icon on the bottom of the screen, on the left side.

    Try here:

You said you restored the iPod. Was the restore successful, that is, it went though all the steps without errors?
Try a restore to factory settings/new iPod if yuhave not doe so so far.
Are you  using the headphones that came with the iPod? Are you inserting the plug fully
Have you tried another set of headphones in the iPod?
The speaker is not that loud.

  • My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.

My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.  I put in my password and then get a screen that says "Download Now".  I can't press the okay button to start the download.  What should I do?  All of the other buttons on the screen work, so I don't think it is broken.

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.

  • Charging for software on a BRAND NEW iPod Touch?

Glad to hear people are now getting the 2.2 download to work. Has anyone gotten anywhere asking Apple for justification for a $10 software upgrade on a brand new iTouch purchased within 30 days and given as a Christmas gift? (I gave 2!) This is even crazier than "Microsoft think".
There was another post comparing this to an upgrade from Windows XP to Vista - NOT SO. You would know a PC's OS in advance and you could weigh the cost of the PC PLUS an OS upgrade against whatever features you might miss by not having the latest OS. If you bought a PC back during the pre-Vista release you either received a coupon for an OS upgrade when Vista came out or you knew that the PC came with XP and you were OK with it. There was no disclosure of any kind when I was researching or purchasing the Touch.
So, I ask again, does anyone have any words from Apple justifying this charge for their brand new iPod Touch? We're not talking about units purchased months ago, just BRAND NEW devices that are effectively 4 days old for the gift recipients.

Your iPods may be 'new' as opposed to 'used', but they were clearly not the latest models.
Any iPod that do not have the 2.2 software installed have to pay for it. This is because that the time they were manufactured by Apple and released the 2.2 software was not available. Apple sold those devices to the retailer before the 2.2 software was released and therefore you bought an 'old' model that is NOT entitled to the 2.2 software. It is not about when the device was sold it is about when it was manufactured. Apple do not know when the devices you have were sold to you anyway.
Apple does know the serial numbers of your devices and it does check to see if they are entitled to the update and clearly they are not as they were manufactured before the new software was released.
These are user support forums and are not manned by Apple. If you want Apple support then use the 90 day telephone support that came with your Apple product or the 12 month warranty which can be used in any Apple retail store.
You have not been 'flamed' in these forums we are just giving you the truth.
Just because you have a strange view or reality does not mean it is correct.

  • My brand-new iPod touch (5th Gen) battery takes a very long time to fully charge, even while not in use. Why is this and what should I do?

Just recently bought a brand-new iPod touch, 5th generation. To be exact, got it two days ago, this past Saturday, on 12/13/2014. Initially, when I first turned it on, it had a fully charge and I didn't need to charge it. I also didn't see anything in the very small and limited start-up guide you receive with it to charge it for a certain amount of time before use, or to use it until the battery dies, then charge all the way, like a lot of electronic devices have you do when you first purchase them.
So I was assuming I didn't need to do anything like that. First question, should I have charged it for a period of time before use? Should I have used it until the battery died, then plugged it in and charged it fully before use? Or is none of this necessary initially and iPod batteries are good to go from the start?
Please excuse me if this is an obvious question, as this is my first ever iPod. Anyways, like I said, nothing in the "instructions" said anything about that, so I didn't do it, I just used it until it got below 20% battery left, then I plugged it in.
Now for the battery itself, it takes literally a day or so to fully charge, even while not in use. Even if I use it for a while, turn off the iPod to make sure it shuts off all background data and apps, and then plug it in to charge, it still charges extremely slowly. I've never seen a device take this long to charge. As for the battery life itself, I'd say at full charge it lasts about 4-5 hrs, maybe 6, and then I have to charge it again. Meanwhile it takes around 24 hours, without me using it, to fully charge. If I use it while its charging, the battery decreases faster than it charges, and eventually I'll get the typical "20% battery remaining" message pop up.
I know it is charging, as the lightning symbol is next to the battery symbol. Specifically, right now, I plugged it in about 1 hr 30 minutes ago, and it has barely gone up. Also, whenever I press the home button to check the battery, I can see it jump down from about 50% to somewhere around 25%-30%. What is that about?
This is really frustrating, and I'm seriously contemplating either taking it back and trying my luck with a different iPod, or just taking it back and getting my money back. Any help and clarification on this matter would be greatly appreciated, and I'll answer any questions I can to shed more light on this.

It will take longer to charge the 5G's battery than either the 3G or 4G's battery.
