Brand new (like right out of box) 4g won't update

Just bought a new 32gb iPod 4g (to replace my 3g that was just stolen) and when I try to update it to the latest software. I keep getting error code 3194. Running iTunes 10.4 as well.

Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • Can't access App Store, new iMac right out of box

I hate to start another one of these threads but the only thing I've done since initially booting my Mac was try to access the App Store to download Xcode. Nothing has been installed. I can get to the Internet through our guest wireless. Everything is brand new straight from Apple as of today. No antivirus. We've tried making sure the class 3 public certificates are operating by first trying to set them to "trust always" then followed another threads instructions to get them set back to autos elect. Nothing. There's nothing on the computer, (other than mountain lion and ilife i think) so there's no danger of deleting any data, but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with. Help!

    Ken ...
    Congrats on your new iMac!
Check GateKeeper for downloading apps from the App Store.
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click System Preferences.
Then select Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Select:  Mac App Store and identified developers
If that area is greyed out, click the padlock icon bottom left corner of the window. You may be prompted for the admin password to make changes.
Restart your iMac and try downloading Xcode.

but we have no discs to do any kind of repair with
New Macs no longer come with install discs. If it's necessary to reinstall OS X, repair the startup disk, or reformat, that must be done over the internet. Apple strongly recommends a broadband high speed connection.

  • Brand new iPad dead out of box

I have just bought my hubbie an iPad 2 from Amazon for his birthday, but on taking it out of the box on the day find it is dead. Tried charging, no response. Doesn't respond to on/off button. Any hope?

    1. Charge it for at least 1 hour
    2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Brand new IPad 3 out of the box - set up problem with Apple ID

Brand new iPad 3 out of the box - set up problem. It says my Apple ID (email address) is already being used. I reset the password successfully but still says I need another Apple ID. Why won't the ID recornize me?

Open current iTunes on your computer. Connect iPhone to the computer with the Lightning USB Cable. Hold both the Home and Power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up Sevice and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

Hello welcome to the HP forum. You have two options you can contact HP Direct Support and have them fix or just take it back to the store where you bought it and exchange it for another one. It came with a one year warranty.

  • Brand new Macbook Pro with a nice ding in it right out of box!

I just bought a brand new 15" Macbook Pro the other day from the online store w/ the high res, anti glare display, and it had a nice ding in it right out of the box! It kind of makes you wonder what goes on at Apple's factories as I've read several other stories about people with dings, scratches, dents, chips on their Macs right out of the box. It also makes you wonder how these items get treated during the shipping process? Needless to say I'm gonna exchange it, and if the replacement has any marks on it, I'm getting a refund. I know these are minor cosmetic flaws, but I have no patience for stuff like this when you're paying $2000 for any item. Anyone else have similar experiences?

The reason I had to order mine online was because it was a custom configured 15" with the high res, anti glare screen. I went to my local Apple store and they said the only 15" model with that screen upgrade they had in stock was a top of the line 15" that cost $2600, plus our ******** 14% sales tax we pay here in Canada. Why they would only carry a top of the line model with that particular screen is completely ridiculous to me, they should keep at least a few models on hand with that screen option at all price points. Now I have to another week for them to get this crap straightened out.

  • New 2011 Imac out of box, updated software now wont boot up? Ive had this machine for 24 hours!

Brand new out of box Imac 27" Booted up ok. Downloaded/updated software and prompted restart and now no screen? Makes the boot up noise but screen remains black? Any ideas or others with similar problem? Very dissapointed in product considering Im replacing my older Imac of 3.5yrs (out of warranty) with faulty hard drive.

Unplug it. Wait 2 minutes (don't rush it). Plug it back in. Power it up. Have patience during the first startup.
If the computer hasn't booted to the desktop (or the login screen if you have auto login disabled) within 5 minutes, considering that it's brand-new-out-of-the-box, call Apple and schedule a repair appointment at your nearest Apple Store.
I know it's annoying that you might have a lemon, but it does happen - don't give up on Mac because you got the one bad Apple.

  • 3 brand new x200s, coming out of blank screen powersetting

if the system is locked or the checkbox for the screen saver is set to prompt logon to resume in XP.  when the screen blanks because of the powersetting to blank monitor is set for x number of minutes.  when I press a button or move the mouse to resume, all I get is the background image and a mouse cursor.  no keyboard commands are excepted the only way to get back to the system is to hold the power button down till it turns off.
these are brand new, out of the box, nothing loaded on them yet.
    thank you

I have the same problem with my 7 x200s type 7469 laptops.  Once the screen is blank no other option but to restart.

  • My iMac thinks my brand new iPod is out of date!

HI - on my new imac, i have transfered my old itunes library via a portable hard drive. This went fine, with all my tunes now appearing on the new i.mac. To play them i was prompted to enter my old apple id (FROM 2002) that i set up with my old nano years ago.
Now, when i plug in the brand new i5.1 IPOD TOUCH which was bought with the imac last week, it says to me - "you need to update your itunes to 5" - yet its already 10!
I think it sees the new ipod as the old ipod - and i cant sync it - it just dosnt give mne the option.
I have registered my new id on all the devices / computers - the old one cant be entered asits not an email address

Thanks - I know, thats why I decided to get all upgraded. Its just that now that I have put my old library on the NEW i.mac, the NEW ipod touch isnt properly recognised. Like I said initially - now when I plug in the BRAND NEW IPOD TOUCH into the BRAND NEW IMAC, the imac tells me I need i,tunes 5 and to download it from the store - YET it already have itunes 10
gosh this is complicated isnt it?
anyone else got similar experience and solved it?

  • HELP! brand new iMac froze during firewire transfer and won't start!!!

During my setup for my brand new iMac I follwed the directions and connected my iBook via firewire to transfer my files. I noticed after a while that my iMac was frozen on "45 minutes remaining" and the blue line wasn't wavering a bit, and after over half an hour it hadn't moved. I powered off the iBook, and still nothing happened to the iMac screen--it remained frozen. I went to the guidebook and nothing seemed to work, so I powered off and on again, only to get a flashing question mark. All this and I just bought the darn thing tonight!
Help! Anyone know what happened and more importantly how to fix it?
    Thanks.
    Lindsay

it sounds like the iBook went to sleep during the transfer or at least it's hard drive spun down.
what you need to know is hope that simply booting from your install DVD will let you repair the iMac's hard drive. You could also try booting holding down the Command S keys on startup and when you get to the Single User Mode command line prompt follow the directions there for running fsck to repair your hard drive.
Do you have a FW hard drive? Can you copy files from iBook to FW and then from there to iMac?
And, it is always nice to have a FW emergency/backup hard drive. The iMac needs a different partition scheme to be bootable from FW than the iBook does, but you can create the proper partition type etc from a Tiger Installer and put OS X on FireWire, then see if you can backup and repair your iMac's hard drive.
MicroMat's TechTool Pro 4.5.1 is now shipping and is compatible, Universal Binary and bootable. Always good to have some 3rd party utility handy.
If you are just starting out, you probably don't have much if anything installed yet, so you may want to just erase your iMac drive and restore to what it was. That would be the easiest if Disk Utility won't repair it.
Instead of powering off the iBook, I would have tried to force quit whatever was running, like Migration Assistant.

  • Brand New IPod Mini - Can't mount iPod from IPod Updater

Just bought a brand new IPOD mini. When I try to use the IPod Updater, I get an error message "Can't mount iPod".
Windows XP Services shows IPOD services is started.
The IPOD appears in My computer as "Removalable Disk".
Also, my IPOD does not appear in iTunes.

This is a very reasonable strategy. It has been previously used for USB problems with battery charging.
See this link: The iPod Battery Unplugged..
A synopsis of it is as follows:
"For best results, try not to use computer ports to charge your iPod. USB is especially sensitive to how many devices are on it and what the resulting bus voltage is. It may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery. USB versions prior to 2.0 will not charge your iPod (and probably be too slow for its other functions). Even USB 2.0 is limited to 700 milliamps and an iPod "likes" to see one full amp for charging, plus some to spin the HD while mounted. Some (early) iPod models will not charge from USB, period. Some PCs use 4-pin Firewire cables (all Macs are 6-pin) which carry no charging voltage, so they won't work at all for recharging and can allow your iPod to run down and cause serious problems while updating firmware, restoring, or loading songs. Both USB and Firewire require the iPod to be mounted by your computer as an external drive, which means the iPod's HD is spinning, using some of the juice that the battery might like to have. And if the computer sleeps or is turned off, the battery won't charge and in some cases will actually drain through the port circuits. Bottom line: if your ports are not doing a good job of charging your battery, use the wall adapter to charge for several cycles before questioning the battery's credentials. If you have a new iPod which only comes with USB, don't panic; it can work fine. But if you do experience problems, either take everything else off the USB bus (except mouse & keyboard) and/or get an AC adapter."
