Brand New Low Cost iMac keeps restarting
I have a brand new low cost iMac running OSX 10.9.4 and it restarts because of a problem at least once a day - I submit the error report to Apple each time, but I don't have one available to copy and paste here right now. Is there a way to get the report after I submit it? Anybody else having the same problem?
It's in warranty. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

My 27' 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 12GB RAM iMac keeps restarting.
My I wonder if anyone on here could help me.
My 27' 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 12GB RAM iMac keeps restarting all the time. It's been happening for months now but has got worse and worse. It started when I was using programmes like adobe Pr & Ae but now it happens when I have only have safari or other small apps open.
What happens is the screen freezes, I can hear a clicking should and then the machine just restarts all of a sudden.
I get the message: 'Your computer was restarted because of a problem. Click report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple' which I have done ever time for about 50+ times now in total. The 'problem details and system configuration' states the below:

I use my iMac daily for work and it happens from 4-10 times a day depending on what applications i'm using. More if I'm trying to render a video. It is really furstrating and keeps me from doing any work at all, I can't keep working like this but I have no choise. I really can't be without my computer for very long as I use it to do everything and I do not have another. Also I have all my files on the hard drive. I have bought a Seagate external HD to back up my files onto so I can make a genus bar appointment but everytime I run time machine or try to copy any of my files over to the external HD the machine restarts and disrupts the file transfer. So I can't even back up my files which are really important to me. I even had to retype this whole message becuase my imac restarted while I was fulling in this question.
What is worse is that I bought the extra warrenty (Apple Care) which is due to expire sometime in March 2014 I'm unsure of the date. Might have expired already I don't know. So I need to get this fixed ASAP.
Extra information on the machine:
iMac
27-inch, Mid 2011
Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB
Software OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)
Can anyone see from the information I have given about what could be wrong with my machine?
Any help or assistance would be much appriciated.
Thanks,
JamesHi. I am currently having the same issue on my 2011 27" 3.1 GHz i5 with 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
For the last couple of months I have been experiencing random restarts, power offs and so on. I have already had this escalated and had my machine taken into Apple to run a Hardware test. They redid the newest OSX version in store and ran the AHT for an hour and got no results. The Genius Bar were asked by Apple Canada to run an all night test. According to Apple they ran the test for 4 hours and got nothing. I was then told to take the machine home and run it with just the memory that was original in the machine. I stressed tested the video card with a benchmark tool called Heaven for 2 hours. 90C was the temp and no failure. I did a Terminal "Yes" loop for a couple of hours and no failure on the CPU. I ran the Apple Hardware Test for 11 minutes and this is the result.
I also have a video of what happened after I restarted the test after about a 5 minute cooldown period. 20 minutes into the test the Imac stalled and made 3 long beeps over and over again like an alarm with a long pause between. I took the memory out of the DIMM 0 & 1 slots and replaced them in the 2&3 slots rand the test and got nothing after 2 hours. I put the memory back in the original spot and ran it again and got no results. Apple contacted the "Genius" techs and they informed them that I had fixed the problem and everything should be good now. I was also told to go ahead and transfer back over my Time Machine Backup. Since this all happened I have had the Imac restart 2 times in the last almost 2 weeks and today got this error message

I would also like to add that The Second High Level tech I spoke to told me to use a program to take an image of what my computer was doing when the fresh install of Mavericks was installed and then again after the Time Machine restore. I sent both and have had no response back. The "Engineers of Apple" would be taking a look at those files. This is what I was told anyway's.
So I would like any advise because Apple hasn't been too helpful. I haven't heard anything back at all. Its been a little while. This seems that it could be an issue. I sat in the store speaking to a gentleman with a brand new iMac 27 inch that was having the same exact issues. I was told his was newer so they were not the same. The owner of the new iMac just rolled his eyes and laughed. James McConville seems to be having the same issue and I have read quite a few others before I saw this post from yesterday.
Help Us Please. -
I used migration assistant and my ethernet cable to move data and apps from my 5-yr old Intel-based iMac to my brand new Intel-based iMac running OS Lion. The old machine was running OS 10.5.8. Not all my files transferred (or I can't find them). I've seen recommendations to select the old computer in System Preferences, but that didn't work. Help. Thanks!
IMO, wrong choice. Start over, using a FireWire cable and following the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

Imac keeps restarting on its own after installing update X?
Imac keeps restarting on its own after installing update X?
What do you mean "update X"? What update are you referring to?

IMac keeps restarting on its own
My IMac keeps restarting on its own. It never really gets to the desktop when it restarts. Everytime it starts over, it gives me a message stating that it restarted because of a problem. I'm afraid It might be infected with some type of virus (if it's at all possible). Iupdated the OS to Mountain Lion a few days ago could that be the reason? I also tried to download some programs but erased them before installing anything. Could it have been me? Did I get my baby sick?
Much to my dismay I don't have Applecare (that will change soon).
GeekSqad at bestbuy was not able to help, despite the $170 buck I dished out so I'd get help for the next 2 years.
Called applecare anyway (cause bestbuy know very little about Macs) and even though I don't have their service, after hours of trying different things, we couldn't fix the issue anyway. Later, on my own, I went ahead and re-installed Mountain Lion from the restore menu (command+R) and the computer seems to be working fine. Hope this helps someone else.
Thanks again Mr. Boyd -
I messed up badly by trying to restore my brand new macbook pro by doing restart then command R and choose disc utility repair now when I start ,all I get is the white screen with a folder and a question mark,What can I do???help please
Can you still boot to the Recovery partition using Command and R whilst booting? Or did you wipe the Recovery partition as well?
If your Recovery partition is still intact, you can simply boot to it and reinstall the OS via the Internet. If you wiped the Recovery partition, you can hold down Command, option and R keys whilst booting and boot into true Internet Recovery mode. You'll be able to reformat the hard drive, erasing all partitions (format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a dingle GUID partition) and then reinstall the OS that shipped with your machine.
Note that you should use a physical Ethernet connection when restoring over the Internet - it's three times slower if you use wifi.
Try your Recovery partition first and if that doesn't work, use Internet Recovery.

My imac keeps restarting any thoughts?
my imac keeps restarting any thoughts?
Not enough info. Because iMacs have been made without interruption since 1998 in literally hundreds of variants, we need to know more about your Mac before we can even think about helping. People have received bad advice here when they failed to narrow down their iMac model.
At a Minimum, please do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and tell us what that says for your Mac OSX version and your processor type. -
Can anyone help as my Imac keeps restarting. it is only 14 months old.
Try resetting the SMC
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer. -
Does brand new 24 inch Imac come with ilife 08 disc?
just bought a brand new 24 inch imac which had ilife 08 preloaded - but can't seem to find an install disc as backup anywhere. do these new machines come with installation disc?
if not, what do i do in the event of a hard drive crash?
thanksNo wurries! iLife '08 is on the (Mid 2007) iMac install disks. Put Disk #1 in the DVD drive (no need to shut down OS-X), and click on "Read Before You Install.app".
If you just want to reload/recover a lost app, click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" icon, drill down to the "Installation Type" screen, and select "Customize," then expand the "Bundled Applications" thingie, and clear all the checkboxes -- except for the app(s) you want to (re)install. Then click "Update".

Brand new 21.5" iMac, internal microphone gives garbled speech in bootcamp
so, just bought a brand new 21.5" iMac, it is updated w/ most recent OS on both the Mac and Windows side. I was playing DDO and someone said my speech sounded like an Orc. I hit mic test and sure enough my speech sounds like i'm in a tunnel and dragged out.. it's horrible, not understandable and delayed. I've tried almost everything w/ the drivers and whatnot, but nothing seems to be working.
I really need help.Sean,
Probably should re-post this in the Boot Camp forum. It's located at:

My Applications keep Freezing - Brand New Mid-2010 iMac. Please Help
Hello - I am extremely frustrated because I just received my brand new iMac in the mail (27" i7 2.93GHZ / 2 TB HD / 4GB 2x2 SDRAM) and my applications keep freezing.
Let me give an example -
I keep trying to open iPhoto so that I can import and export photos from my other Mac and my iPhone. Just about any time I do any big upload, the whole iPhoto freezes on me and I have to force quit.
Another example (the one that is bugging me most right now): I am trying to paste 3 pages of text into a word document in Microsoft Word, and every time I attempt to do this, Word freezes.
I understand these are both rather minor in the grand scheme of things, but I just got this fricken thing and I'm hoping I can take some measure to avoid my applications freezing... Do I not have enough memory for running these simple day-to-day tasks? I was thinking about buying 2x 4GB OWC memory to make my computer 12GB instead of 4GB. Please help - I'd love to hear any opinions. Should I take it in? Or is it a simple fix? Even when I first booted my computer there was lag getting the introduction information to load.Dang...
I was hopeful that this would have solved the problem. Unfortunately, it must be a software problem of some sort. I reset my PRAM(?) and did the disk utility cleanup or whatever it is called. I do appreciate you giving your 2 cents. Does anybody else have any ideas? Microsoft Office is still freezing up when I try to paste something from the internet -- Oddly enough, it isn't happening when I'm posting text from some websites, but is from others. The firewall is turned off, so I don't think its a security issue. Please help! I need some way to put my academic transcript in a word file so that I can email it for reference, so this is kind of urgent! Thank you.
Should I try a software update?

Brand new 27'' i5 iMac hangs for ever at the apple screen
After 10 days of normal usage, by brand new iMac 27'' i5 started to hang during startup (rotating cursor at the apple screen). I found unreparable errors with Disk Utility, erased and re-formatted disk with zeros and reinstalled Mac OS X snow leopard. The iMac worked for a short period but soon after restarting gave the same problem of hanging at startup and unreparable disk errors. Resetting SMC and PRAM made the situation only worse since the Mac OS X startup disk refused to eject or operate (pressing C at startup). My only contact with the iMac (the slow DVD player) was now unreachable, too
I contacted Apple Call Center in Greece and asked them if I could return this faulty iMac (Dead On Arrival, DOA) with a new one, since I don't want any Service Center fiddling with a brand new, expensive but faulty iMac, that could soon give the same or worse problems. They told me that it is not Apple's policy in many countries(??) to replace DOA Apple machines.
I was wondering if this is true in other countries and whether Apple would play with it's own reputation by forcing users to "live" with "faulty in the box" Apple computers.
I'm very sad since I paid 2000 euros and the only thing I got is all this aggrevation!!
Any help or information and similar experiences would be appreciated.Hi I posted this reply on another topic today re freezing and hanging imac but it seems to have gone missing so I am posting this copy now so you will see what I have done. I have had the same freezing/hang problems. My imac is ok for a few minutes and then freezes. So after a lot of frustration I brought it to an Apple agent on 16th December. He could not find any obvious problem so he rebuilt directories with disk warrior and it worked perfecttly until the 24th December
and it was turned off until the 31st December. When it was restarted again it was back to the same spinning beach ball of death. I tried verify permissions and disk repair which said no obvious hard disk problem. I too sent screen shots to Apple on the 6th Jan but have heard nothing back from their engineers. So I brought my imac back to Apple agent on the 7th Jan and he has told me he has replaced the hard drive because I really think he could not pinpoint the real problem. My data could not be retrieved. The cost to me is 249euro or $303. Not really impressed with Apple or imac as this is the second big problem with this imac in 3 years and this time it is not covered by warranty. My computer equipment is never abused or worked full belt. So frustrating as I have loss 11 days worktime. If all these problems appear to be an Apple problem I think the least they can do is fix them for free -
My new (late 2013) iMac keeps rebooting due to kernel panic
I just picked up a brand-new iMac and pumped it up with 32Gb of RAM. Kinda surprised to have unexpected restarts twice a day (although it really does reboot FAST) Sorta bad though as I'm a designer and need to keep saving my projects every 30 seconds for fear of crashes.
Anybody else? Here's the report.... Fun part is the BSD process name is different every time

Brand new 27-inch iMac Late 2013 repeatedly crashing with Mavericks
Hi folks,
I have a brand new 27-inch Mac from late 2013 running OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks) with:
3.4 GHz Intel Core i5
32 GB RAM
3 TB Fusion drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
My system is hanging repeatedly, requiring a forced restart by holding down the power button - kernel panic I guess. Can't find a specific trigger, but I might be missing something.
I've tried reinstalling the OS, and a full erase and reinstall, but I'm still getting the problem. I've also run the hardware checker and verified the hard disc - all report the system is OK.
Annoyingly I can't startup in safe mode - think that's to do with having a 3TB Fusion drive.
Any suggestions? If I need to post a crash log can you let me know what bit is needed?
Thanks for your help.
PS All the RAM was installed by Apple btw, so I don't think it's the mismatched voltage thing that others have had. Similarly, Google Drive is installed but not currently running.Hi Etrecheck - thanks for your help. I've run th software - here are the results:

Brand New 2007 24'' IMac need some opinions please
Hi,
I have a 24' I Mac that is a 2007,,,, it was only used for 1 month then put into storage do to a move,,,, I just got it out of storage and set back up again. It only has 1MB of Ram, and I would like to possibly get it upgraded to the 3MB, anyone know how much this would cost, and if it is worth it to do ??? Also what other suggestions for upgrades that can be done to this system to bring it more up to date. This computer is just about brand new. like I said was used for approx 3 weeks and thats it. I read MB or is it GB of Ram is the most this system will take, id this true or can I get more ???
Thank You
MWA1024A 4GB kit will cost you just under $60
see > OWC Apple iMac Memory Upgrades
or > Computer memory upgrades for Apple iMac at Crucial.com
Plus you could/should upgrade to Snow Leopard. Problem is Apple no longer sell Snow Leopard thru the Apple Store, so you will need to call Apple Support and ask for a 10.6 Upgrade DVD.
