Brand new M201dw Laserjet - nothing but trouble so far

Hello - I just got a new Laserjet M201DW, after reading so many great reviews on Amazon. My trusty HP 1200 lasted more than 15 years, so I wanted to remain loyal to the HP brand. But after a very frustrating afternoon, my loyalty is being shaken. The install was painful and laborious. The installationnCD that was included made my computer freeze 3 times in a row. Finally I gave up and downloaded the necessary software from the web, but the first attempt stalled and killed my browser. Then when I successfully downloaded the software, the phase of the installation where I connected my USB cable to the printer lasted for nearly an hour, then it bombed at the "99% completed" point. So I restarted the installation, and finally completed it, but the printer would only print a line or two of garbled gibberish at the top of the page, and it would spew out multiple pages with just a line or two of gibberish at the top. I've tried printing from different applications with the same results, and when I view the printer queue, it never shows any print jobs being held. And now I don't even get a line of gibberish; it simply doesn't print anything. None of the troubleshooting steps I've found online have yielded any results. I'm very tech-savvy, and am accustomed to being able to set up a printer in minutes, not hours. If this cannot be resolved soon, I'll be forced to return this and buy a different brand. Please help - thank you!

Hello , Welcome to the HP Community.  I'd like to help you with the installation and printing issues you are having with your HP Laserjet Pro M201dw, on your Windows 8.1 operating system. I can certainly understand your frustration, it seems like you have attempted the install multiple times. First, I'd recommend running the Print and Scan Doctor, to see if it can resolve any errors in the software without having to re-install. If it does prompt you to re-install your software, I would suggest uninstalling all M201dw software from the Programs section of your control panel. Once that's done, do a cleanboot of your computer. You can find instructions to complete the cleanboot here: How to perform a clean boot in Windows Note: This will turn off all non-essential startup items, so if it's another program on your computer that is causing the installation to lag, it should resolve the install issue. Rather than installing from the download or the CD that came with the printer, I'd suggest downloading and running the HP Printer Install Wizard. Please respond and let me know if this helped to resolve the issue!Good luck

  • New iPhone.  Nothing but trouble.!  Help.!

Hi, 2 days ago I purchased a 16GB iPhone 3G. I did manage to register it using iTunes 7 and I then updated to iTunes 8, This prompted me to update the software on the phone. I started to do this and part way through I got the 'blue screen of death' and the pc rebooted. This left my iPhone with no software and completely unusable. I tried many times after to update but with no luck (my laptop) now wont boot at all. I tried updating on a friends Mac but it again would not update my phone. I have since tried on 2 other pc's and each say the iTunes update server cannot be reached. Right now I'm wishing I'd stayed with a Nokia. Anyone have any ideas please.?

    Go back to your Nokia..........

my audio is being funny on my mac. It is brand new, and hasn't had trouble since this update. It gets stuck at full blast with a / though it. then no audio comes out. Once I turn it off it fixes it self thouhgh, or if I wait a while it finally fixes it's self. If this happening to anyone else?

I don't think that is normal behavior. The long press is possibly causing the system to force power down, which would then allow it to power back up.
Just to make sure, all drivers are up-to-date? Are there pending BIOS updates? If so, you'll want to make sure it can restart properly before applying the BIOS update
Try an Ubuntu LiveUSB or LiveCD to rule out software issues.
If that doesn't work, try taking out the battery and AC, pressing the power button ten times, then holding it for ten. This is usually the remedy for another issue, but try it anyway.
If that doesn't work, then try resetting the BIOS settings. Then try unplugging the CMOS battery overnight. Otherwise, might have to call for warranty.

I have to agree, fixing something that was working fine and replacing it with the new crap has led me to switch browsers.BIG FAIL MOZILLA

Turn off updating to keep your good working version or you will be forced to use the new version that is missing some well used features.

  • PC Suite 6.83--Nothing But Trouble

I was sent 6.83 over the Internet and anxiously installed the program on Win XP Home SP2 computer. Instead, I have had nothing but trouble. Nokia told me it was a MS problem. MS said it was my computer's manufacuturer's problem (Dell). Dell said that I had to reformat my hard drive (and you know how long that takes!).
I've done all that and have been reloading programs, but PC Suite still doesn't work:
-sometimes the icon keep spinning endlessly and only stops when I restart the computer.
-sometimes it connects once, then not again.
-I have reinstalled it at least twice and now I can't get the program to uninstall.
    Please help!

Thank you for the tip of using the last five digits of the message number.
However, this has not helped. I tried reloading an older version of PC Suite from the CD that I purchased with the cable as told byNokia tech support.
Again, I got the cable driver unloaded but not PC Suite.
Of interest is that when I click to uninstall PC Suite from the Add and Remove Programs site, the program which pops up is the new 6.83 version Installation program--not the uninstall program.
I am about ready to throw in the towel and go to my Pocket PC as my PIM and use the phone only on the 6682 until I can get a Windows Mobile Phone.
This has left a bad taste for me to Nokia and Symbian OS.

  • Just bought a brand new Airport Extreme and having trouble with it being recognized. I have a Mac version 10.5.8. Is my computer compatible?  I have the Airport Express now and it works fine.

Just bought a brand new airport extreme and having trouble with it being recognized.  My mac is version 10.5.8.  What should I do?

The new AirPort Extreme needs the 6.x version of AirPort Utility, which comes packed in with Lion 10.7.5 or Mountain Lion 10.8.x......or......you can also configure the device using an iPhone or iPad running a recent iOS.
    From Apple's Specifications:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    A few options.....
Borrow another Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion for 10-15 minutes and set it up. The Mac running 10.5.8 will be able to connect to the wireless....but it will not be able to make any changes to the configuration of the Extreme.
Update to Lion or Mountain Lion.....but check first to make sure that your Mac will support the operating system first.
Use....or borrow an iPhone or iPad to set up the Extreme

  • K9A2 Platinum - Nothing but Trouble!!!

OK, Well I purchased this board today, and from the off, I had constant blue screens, I fixed that by going into SafeMode (with networking enabled) and deleting 2 copys of the file 'AMDLLD64.SYS' from the system files after reading that this was causing the same issues for other people
and after that I have gotton into my OS fine, but on the odd occation I just get sudden freezes/crashes (the whole OS just pauses on my screen) and sometimes just goes to a black screen and restarts
and the extra software/utillities that come on the disc dont work properly!
I had previously owned an MSI board and even then I had nothing but trouble, but after the reviews I deceided to buy another MSI product, But after this, I believe that MSI pays off the reviewers to get a good review :(
If any of you know a good place to find a guide to loads of workarounds for this board then I will be more than greatful!
    My setup is:
    Windows Vista Ultimate x64
    AMD phenom 9600 Black edition
    Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870
    4GB DDR2 800MHz OCZ Platinum
    MSI Platinum (K9A2)
    Corsair TX750W PSU
    ASUS Xonar D2 (PCI)

    Put XP 32bit on it.
Vista (and special Vista 64bit) is the most unstable and crappy OS M$ has ever produced.
I have tried it on several machines, and never got it stable where XP runs like a charm with no bluescreens or lockups ever.
Vista did BSOD several times a day.
I've been using Vista x64 with my K9A2 P for months now--no blue screens, no problems whatsoever. Stable as a rock--wouldn't consider using anything else at the moment.
The fact that this file, AMDLLD64.SYS, was on his system indicates that he, like me, was running a dual-core Athlon prior to installing a Phenom quad core.  I think this file is installed by the AMD dual-core optimizer software that you should *not* be running with a Phenom.  He should uninstall the dual-core optimizer program.  Better yet, he should do a fresh install of Vista x64 and start from scratch.  That's what I did, and my problems went from a few to none at all as a result.
We get lazy sometimes when we update our hardware and we really don't want to do a fresh install and start from scratch.  But sometimes it's not only desirable to do so, it's a necessity if you want a stable environment.  Too many settings inside the OS are wrong for the new hardware and that causes the newer hardware problems.  Best advice: do a fresh install of Vista x64--and *don't overclock anything*--at least until you get your system 100% stable, first.
That way, if overclocking is a problem you'll know exactly what causes it.

While having a perfectly running iTunes and all programs associated, I was notified of the iTunes 10.4 upgrade. After following typical directions, I have had nothing but trouble. First “iTunesHelper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 5)” occurred. Following directions found at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15087646#15087646, I now get the following “iTunes.exe - System Error The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is still missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”, Along with “iTunesHelper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)” I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit on HP TouchSmart tx2-1275dx. I was one week away from buying an iPad but not if this is what I have to deal with. Please help

I actually managed to resolve this on my own by downloading iTunes from the Apple website and reinstalling iTunes that way. Here's the link: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ That should fix your problem. Good luck!

    Hi
does anyone know how to fix the message on my iMac:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
This is a brand new machine and did not have anything attached to the USB ports"
    Thanks for any help

If you are getting that message on a brand new Mac with nothing connected to the USB ports, take it back. It is broken.

  • Bought brand new Toshiba A500 laptop, but no Windows 7-64 CD/DVD

Bought brand new Toshiba A500 laptop, but no Windows 7-64 CD/DVD's came with it, just the programs installed on the computer. Since I have been a long-time Dell customer, where all programs installed also come with various CDs/DVDs, I am rather surprised, especially when you consider that I bought a complete Win 7 Utl OS. Where are the discs? For me this can be a future deal breaker. Is Toshiba so confident that their machines will never need to see an OS disc?

they havent put the discs in with there products for a few year now. there is a recovery partition on the hard drive you can use for a recovery. they also have a program called recovery media creator on your laptop to make your own recovery media. it is a way that if people dont make the recovery media you have to call and order some and toshiba gets another $25 for the user. there is a section in your users guide( search users guide in start menu) about page 60 shows how to recover from partition.
    hope that helps

  • I  have been having nothing but trouble with OS 10.6.8.  Many of my appliatins will not work..  HOw can I revert back to a previous version of OS x?

I  have been having nothing but trouble with OS 10.6.8.  Many of my applications will not work..  HOw can I revert back to a previous version of OS x?

Before you revert anything try this:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Next time don't post something like "nothing but trouble." Tell us exactly what the trouble is and provide any additional information such as error messages.

I ended up buying an iPhone 6 Plus through Optus about 6 weeks ago but as I was away I did not get it until yesterday.  I only realised this is the larger phone and I require the smaller phone.  Am I able to get this swapped over in the Apple Store?  It is sealed, brand new.

OK thanks.  Was hoping apple would allow a walk in and swap as I need to mail it back to optus and their turnaround is roughly 10 business days... oh well.  Thanks for the reply.

  • Just opened brand new m6-1125dx computer but cant make sytem image discs

Hello, Brand- new laptop been useing it for a couple hours and i was about to make System image discs but it says: "The backup failed." "The drive cannot find the sector requested. (x8007001B)" This is so disappointing, as it's the first laptop ive bought in 7 yrs. It is a windows 8 and like i've said i just opened and used it a 2-3 hours. The only stuff ive done with it is litterally browse the files and uninstalled only these four programs: Hp simple pass -Wild tangent -Ebay -Kindle I needed this computer rather urgently. I'll be grateful for all you who help.

    @gary_V,
If you can't get Windows 7 File Recovery to work, you could try using Clonezilla instead.  I've used Clonezilla before for the same purpose and found it to be useful.
Here is a guide should you decide to try using Clonezilla.  This will require a bootable media such as a USB flash drive or disk to complete the task.
