Brand new powerbook g4 - never reaches 100% charge

Does that seem normal? Laptop is only a week old and only reaches 99% (it goes roughly 3 hours on battery at 99%). I know its just 1% but seems odd to me that it doesn't reach 100%. Anyone else experience this? I'm hoping its just a quirk rather then an issue that bodes poorly for the life of the batter.

but now i don't use it on battary any more, its continuesly keep plugged. Still, it started decreasing 1% in a couple of days and now its displaying 94%.
Yesturday night i shut down my system and switched off power too . today i opened my m/c its displaying 100%...
This is completely normal. As Apple states in their Knowledge Base Article Battery Does Not Show Full Charge in Mac OS X. The battery is supposed to do exactly what you describe here: after charging to 100% and when still plugged in, the battery is supposed to drain slowly to below 95% (because a battery not in use will lose charge normally) and only then charge back up to 100%. This helps reduce small charge cycles that would shorten the lifespan of your battery.
...but the color of my power cord id orange, i.e. charging. intresting isn't it?
This does happen sometimes, and it's not normal, but it usually straightens out after a while, sometimes after a reboot, or if you drain the battery and charge it up again. (Although I wouldn't recommend doing that just to make it show the right color, since it's not a serious problem and there's no point adding extra battery cycles just to correct it.)

  • Warped / bent brand new PowerBook?

Just bought a brand new PowerBook from an Apple Store in the USA (I'm now back in the UK) an dnoticed on my flat desk that it is warped slightly.
Before I call Apple, has anyone heard of this before?
    It's a 15" G4 PowerBook.

John: Your Powerbook has hardware problems: at the least, a warped case and a dead (and perhaps unrechargeable) or disconnected internal backup battery. You haven't identified your Powerbook G4 model (there have been at least seven PB G4 15" generations, each different from the last), so no one can advise you on replacing the internal battery yourself, now that you've let your warranty lapse or are unwilling to use it. The warped case may also have led to poor or intermittent connections inside that produce some of your other problems in using the computer, notably the lack of wireless functioning.
You also have software problems, which may include a fundamentally faulty installation of the OS caused by your hardware problems. Without fixing the hardware problems, you are unlikely to be able to fix the software problems, or your faulty hardware will cause them to recur. Getting the hardware fixed is step one. Part of what you paid for is a warranty. Use it, if it isn't too late now.
If you bought a new car, and every time you turned left, the right front wheel fell off, would you simply put the wheel back on each time for a year, refuse to take it back to the dealer for warranty repair, and instead look for volunteers to advise you on how to proceed? Your situation with the Powerbook is exactly analogous. Compared to the time you've spent suffering with a problematical PB, how much time would it have taken to get it fixed?
I can't speak to how, or how well, Apple's education channel for sales or its service network operates in Britain. In the USA, AppleCare turnaround time for a Powerbook warranty repair averages under a week, door to door. It has often been reported here by delighted and astonished beneficiaries as three or four days, including shipping both ways.
There is, as you say, a culture that prefaces its "helpful" suggestions with "Hey Dude..." Apple doesn't have a monopoly on it, but it has its exponents on these boards as it does everywhere else. When you see comments here that are semiliterate, incoherent, disorganized or flippant, ignore them, as you would elsewhere. No one is excluded from contributing here by reason of being immature, foolish, misinformed, insane or merely mistaken. You must discriminate between the wheat and the chaff, as you would anywhere else.
Finally, what I was saying about the people who post here is that happy customers usually don't visit tech support forums seeking help with problems. You won't generally see the people here whose Powerbooks work perfectly, except those who donate time to help others. My two-year-old Powerbook (my fourth, and the thirteenth Mac in my household in not quite 21 years) works well, and I've never needed a warranty repair on a Mac in all that time.

  • My iPod Nano will not sync with my brand new Mac Air...will charge

My iPod nano (touch) will not sync with my iTunes on my brand new Macbook Air. It will charge my iPod and give the option to eject the iPod, but it will not recognize my iPod to sync. Any ideas why and how to fix it?

Hey all, I had to call Apple Support to resolve the issue as nothing on the web provided an answer. So for all you out there having the same problem, here's the ituation and full resolution, so you can save time and money (if your product's warranty is expired).
Situation: I bought a brand new Mac Air on 12/7/12 and tried to sync my 6th generation iPod nano (previously configured to a PC) with no sucess. ITunes was only allowing me to charge and eject the nano.
    Solution:
    1. Go to View>sidebar
    2. In the sidebar, click "iPod" under the Devicies category
    3. Click "Music" section next to "Summary" under the status bar
    4. Make sure "Sync" box is checked with your preferred preferences underneath
    5. Click "Sync" in bottom right corner of window
Apparently, iTunes 11 is quite different and the sidebar with usual options and playlists does not appear unless selected in the "View" drop-down.
    FINISHED!

My brand new MacBook Pro retina display not charging the battery any more after 3 weeks...no green or red Led. Any one now about this problem? Thanks

Either the power brick is damaged, or the charging circuit is on the blink, or both. Either way, a trip to the Apple Store or the Apple Authorized Service Provider is in order, as this ain't no bargain basement toy.
In the meantime, can attempt an SMC Reset to see if it helps.

    Hi all,
Here is the info from the Apple>About This Mac>More Info > System Report > Hardware > Power tab on an early 2011 13" MBP with UNDER 25 cycles :
    Model Information:
      Serial Number:          W020XXXXXXXXXXXXX

      Device Name:          bq20XXXXXXX
      Pack Lot Code:          0
      PCB Lot Code:          0
      Firmware Version:          201
      Hardware Revision:          000a
      Cell Revision:          158
      Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          5621

Accordin to iStatPro, battery health is at 98% and battery charge at 99%.
I also have BOTH Cocunut Battery and Battery Health installed.
Battery Health says it is holding 98.4% (5680 mAh out of a possible total of 5770 mAh).
I have NEVER, ever had the battery reach 100% capacity (5770 mAh).  I took this to AppleCare and they replaced my battery with this model and unit about 2 months (60-75 days) ago.
Has anyone else had this occur? Is this typical? Appreciate an answer from those with knowledge and/or first-hand experience.  Would also like tips to know if it is possible to "regain" the lost capacity (from 98.4% to the full 100%) and if so, how?
    Thanks again!

  • HT1212 my daughter has a brand new ipod touch - never used - she entered a passcode then immediately forgot it and now she has tried to enter one too many times and ipod is locked for 1 hour - she has never synced with itunes HELP

my daughter has a brand new ipod touch - latest one - she started to input a passcode then didn't finish the process then turned off ipod. she turned it back on and it is asking for a passcode - she doesn't remember what she typed. Ipod is now disabled for one hour. Can we override the disable. How do we reset passcode when we don't klnow the original. It has never been synced to Itunes. I am completely lost.

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.

  • Brand New iPod Touch 4G will not charge, or turn on

    Hello.
    I have a brand new iPod Touch 4G, and when I plug it into my computer, nothing happens. My computer for some reason is not reading this iPod Touch;
I have no other way to charge it.
No damage has been done to the product from my observation.
I have tried to restore it, reset it, and other things like that, but iTunes still isn't picking it up, as well as my computer..
I am on a Windows 7 Starter Notebook, with 3 USB ports (that probably are not high-powered), and for some reason it just doesn't want to charge.
I'm going to take it to school with me later to see if it will charge, but in the mean time, do you guys have anything that could possibly get my computer to start reading this iDevice?
    thanks,
    Matt

I have tried a different machine, and it is not my computer.
I have plugged a different iPod into this charger and it charges just fine.
So, it's the iPod its self.
I read an article somewhere and it said that
If your iPod is formatted to work with Macintosh, windows will not read it.
So, I'm thinking my iPod is formatted for Macintosh, (I cannot format it for windows), because it is completely dead, and it won't turn on.
So, should I try a wall charger as my last resort to try and get it to turn on?!
    Thanks,
    Matt

I just purchase a brand new ipod touch 5th generation, and it doesn´t charge and doesn´t turn on etheir. Has I sad, is a brand new ipod that a bought at a dutty free. What can I do?

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Brand new iPad Mini Retina won't charge when its connected to my PC

I just opened up my brand new iPad Mini Retina and attempted to plug it into my PC and set it up. The iPad quickly recognizes my PC, briefly displays the charge symbol then immediately displays "not charging." I have attempted to plug the iPad into the wall, and it charges just fine. All the cables I'm using are straight out of the box which I bought right from the Apple Store so I know its not any of those. My laptop is fully charged and also plugged into the wall, so I know its not my computer. I also double checked everything by plugging my iPhone 5 into my computer (with the new iPad lightening cable) and it charges/syncs just fine. Im stumped, please help me fix my brand new iPad Mini Retina.

I know you said PC, for for others that have an iMac with USB 3 ports, they can put out extra power to charge an iPad.  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4049?viewlocale=en_US)

I have a brand new Ipod nano that has never been opened. It was a gift.  Could I exchange it and get money off for an ipad at an apple store?

No.  The most you can do is turn it in your a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one.  You would be much better off selling the Nano on Craigslist or eBay and using the profits from that towards the purchase of an iPad.

  • My brand-new ipad mini NEVER start up , NEVER get charged , NEVER connect to USB

I have bought an ipad mini from canada but i travelled to use it in Egypt , but after i opened the box and trying to start up the device , i was shocked that the device is not responding at all...
i thought it might be out of charge , i pluged the device to the wall source and waited for more than 4 hours , but in vain ...
the device keeps showing apple logo for like 5 minutes , then the screen goes black and repeat again.
that got me mad , and i tried to plug the ipad on the labtop at first to connect it to itunes , and the great shock again...the labtop doesn't even notice a "Thing" plugged in the USB port..
Tried to switch to PC instead and its the same issue...
I also tried to push home button with on/off button while connected to both the charger to wall and the pc and it only shows "Connect to itunes" on the wall source .
Am i just a bad lucker or i bought a bad product?
P.S : It's impossible to change the device from the provider because i bought the device from other country.
    I hope i'm not a bad lucker!

  • MacBook Pro never reaches full charge

Six month old MacBook Pro. I plug in the power adaptor and the laptop charges to 99%, but then no further. ADDITIONALLY, the light on the power adaptor never goes green, it stays orange. The CPU can't compute the amount of life remaining in the battery.
I assume this constant charging is ruining the battery and that i have a problem. Any solutions, or will this require new parts?

I had a similar problem happen with my Macbook.
My power adapter would blink orange and then green when it got to
99%,. The battery would only charge to 99%.
I went to the Apple store with my MB and the Genius first said the power supply was bad, then the power adapter was bad. However after she put my battery in another MB she determined that battery was defective, and replaced it with a new one. Thanks Apple.....
If I were you I would try resetting the PSU....(thats what Applecare will have you do anyway). Unplug the power adapter from the laptop, turn off the computer, and remove the battery. Open the lid and press and hold the power button for 5-6 seconds.....Re-assemble and restart. Good luck.
