Brand new snowleopard - mp3's refuse to import!!

i just unwrapped my brand new imac today, and already i'm having trouble. i have tried dragging .mp3's into i-tunes, double clicking on them, importing them, dragging them into the folder ect ect..... i can't get a single mp3 to import into the library. i've tried with all sorts of mp3's, and restarted the computer several times. I deleted itunes, re-installed, installed all of the software updates and toured all the little tutorials and help pages and i can't find anything that comes remotely close to helping me and it is making me furious. i spent a fortune on this computer and if i had wanted to spend a whole day trying to figure out how to import mp3's, i would have bought a PC.
the mp3's play fine in finder, quicktime, and everything else... but i can't get them into my itunes library. it is completely empty. i get the little green plus sign when i drag something to it, but the nothing happens. this is my fourth mac and i am no stranger to itunes. why is this happening?

New iMac to which I have imported outlook mail files which have set up as individual mailboxes. There are now so many mailboxes that mail will not open so I can't do anything with them. What can I do.

Now new mail is coming to both computer's inboxes but there is no number on the stamp icon on dock to show number of emails on the iMac. Nor is there a number by either email address under MAILBOXES/inbox (sidebar) on the iMac. This number is showing on MacBook Pro.
I also can save drafts now on both computers.
Seems the Pro is fixed and the iMac is only missing the numbers on dock icon and by addresses in inbox.
Now that the problem is less, I feel i am wasting your time but will continue so maybe I can get those numbers back.
Two emails > AT&T email and gmail.
Apple's Mail program for email - yes, and gmail.
IMAP for both accounts.
Did not change mail configuration on MacBook.
The iMac and MacBook Pro have the same mail configuration except in Accounts/mailbox behaviours/store draft messages on the server was not marked on MacBook > it is now.
'Store junk messages on the server' was marked on one computer for gmail, but is unmarked on both now.
On the iMac, Accounts/Accounts info/Outgoing mail for gmail is smtpgmail.
On the MacBook Pro for gmail it is smpt.gmail.com (plus) my email address.
Rules/Add rule window, on the MacBook third line is 'Any Recipient', on the iMac third line is 'From."
The last box on that line has my email address on the MacBook.
The last box on that line has the last address I sent an emil to (last night), on the iMac.
On the last line on iMac, no box was selicted for 'to mailbox' > I choose 'inbox' because it is on the MacBook Pro.
Now I have a Rule #1 and am not sure I should have because there was no rules marked when I took the computer in.

I just bought a brand new Cannon GL2 camcorder and I am trying to import...

I just bought a brand new Cannon GL2 camcorder and I am trying to import some video footage into Final Cut Pro version 5.01. Whenever I put up the Log and Capture screen and turn my camcorder on the computer starts to think(the spinning color wheel) and not let me do anything else not even press play unless I completely turn the camcorder off again which defeats the whole purpose of me even importing footage. I don't understand why the Log and Capture screen won't let me import any video my old Sony Digital Hi8 was importing just fine a day ago, but now that I bumped up to the GL2 for some reason the Log and Capture screen isn't doing it's job so well by the computer starting to think(the spinning color wheel) instead of working. I have used the Cannon GL1 in the past and it worked like a charm. So I don't understand why the GL2 wouldn't be any easier? It is just giving me this problem and I don't know wether it's the firewire bus or what? Can someone please help me with my dilemma?

Ha...ha..very funny...but ah yeah from reading other posts on the "Canon" GL2 I figured out that you can't have multiple devices plugged into the firewire bus at the same time while you're importing video into Final Cut Pro. That's a HUGE bummer...thanks guys for your help you where fast and reliant. But now I have another problem my internal hard drive only has 4 GB out of 75 GB and my applications take up at least 40 GB of space. How am I going to connect my 600 GB external hard drive to the computer and import footage at the same time? Can you guys help me with this now?

Thanks, Ian. Yeah, that's how I do it now...or with the controls in the left side pane. Still, I would have liked that quick on-the-spot edit capability...especially while sketching.

Itunes refuses to import some mp3 files.

Can someone please advise. I have an album of MP3 tracks. For some reason Itunes refuses to import all but 2 of the songs on the ablum. I have the files on the hard drive in my music folder which should be auto sync to Itunes. This does not happen with these mp3's. Also if I try to do it manually nothing happens. Any suggestions?
P.s I am using the latest version of Itunes and the MP3's play fine with media player etc.

Yeah, what stubchain said. If they play in WMP, then you've run into the bug where iTUnes can't read the MP3 tags.
iTunes has problems with v2.4 ID3 tags.

iTunes also has a problem with v2.2 tags and artwork/beats per minutes tags on the same song.
Try setting them to v1 in another program and then see if iTunes can read them.
Then once iTnues can read tehm, I would convert them to v2.3 tags, which seem to be the most stable & have the best features.

Brand new Imac user having trouble importing photos (jpgs)

I am a brand new iMac user and am having trouble importing some of my photos into my new computer.
Here is my dilemma:
* All of my pics are jpgs that were shot using a sony DSC-W50 digital camera.
* All were backed up on my exteral harddrive from my old Sony PC.
* I loaded all of them onto my new iMac into the "Photos" area
* When I try to import them to the iPhoto library, I get a message that either says "already in the iPhoto library" or 'unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data"
* I can open all of the photos that I get this error msg on in other photo programs so I know the files are photos and are good.

iPhoto is not an image viewer, it's a Database with built-in image viewer, lightweight editing and version control, and like any database, data needs to be imported. However, iPhoto will not import from the iPhoto Library Folder.
So, move the photos to the Desktop and then import them from there.
Here's what happens next:
iPhoto will make a copy of them in the iPhoto Library Folder. There they will be put into the Originals Folder. Here's how the iPhoto Library Folder is organised:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.

Usb not seeing mp3 player? brand new s10!

brand new s10, all ok but neither usb port seeing mp3 player.(sandisk clip) mp3 used on other computers, no problem.

USB port does not see MP3 player. I looked at "support & downloads". Nothing there about USB's.
This is crazy, I have never had to download drivers for a NEW computer to make the USB's work.

Brought a Brand new ZEN Vision M MP3 player but it wont cha

Mods please reply urgently I have brought a brand new mp3 player it wont charge using the dc charger supplied, it wont charge using the usb ports I cant get the computer to recongnise the player if i umplug the dc adaptor - the only symbol visable in the corner of the screen is a the mains power symbol - I have tried leabing it on to charge but if doesnot thing - I have looked on the creative support pages and on this forum and everyone suggests downloading the new firmware - But it has been suggested that if i do this i will void my warrenty - could you please confirm whether this is the case and if so what would you suggest i do to solve the problem Please reply asap Thanks Marmite

for new zen vision, u need to charge for at least 5hrs, without enough charge, the PC cannot recognise it. let it charge longer using your DC charger

Import of Brand New CD: Took FOREVER & sounds like GARBAGE

Here's a first for me... A friend bought us a brand new CD as a gift. I played the CD 1 time in our 5 disk changer at home, played it 1 time in the car. After each play, I placed it in the CD case after each time. Not thinking it's a scratched issue.
Took it up to our brand new iMac to import into iTunes... Much to my surprise, it was showing a 0.2x or 0.5x taking over 2 hours to import the entire 10 song cd into iTunes.
Several, if not all of the songs sound like trash. They play perfectly fine, but have "skips" in them.
What on earth could make a CD import go so wrong on a brand new disk?
Earlier this weekend, I imported about 3 of my old CD's that have been abused and they all imported just fine so I'm not thinking it's the drive in our iMac.
Any thoughts?

Checked the CD, it was fine. Tried to re-insert it into the iMac. The iMac takes the CD in holds it for a few seconds, then spits it back out.
I tried this CD in my work HP laptop w/ iTunes and it imported fine.
At this point, I will chawk this up to an unusual instance. I sure hope that future CD's work in the Mac!

Problem with my brand new mp3 player Zen Stone Plus 2GB ( with built in speaker )

I have purchased the following Zen Stone Plus 2GB with built in speaker on 24.06.2008.
From day one, it had a charging problem . Initial charging it'snever go beyond 87%.
After using it for 2 days, at the time of recharging , I found my player won`t get dectected in my PC .
I took the set to the vendor for a checkup . He tried to solve it by resetting , formating etc. But he could only able to to format it's sacrificing its 50% of its allocated space.
My vendor then changed the set with a brand new one, againts that faulty one .
Now the new one worked well for 3 - 4 days , but it is now totally dead .
But the set did not give any indication before it become completely dead.
A few dust particles inside the LCD screen was also observed. I can`t understand how come dust particles can enter inside
a player which is sealed box pack .
Next issue is with the battery which CREATIVE promised of giving a backup of approx 20 hrs of continious playback , which with minimal scuffling and with minimal settings lasted for 0 hrs approx ( 50% less than promised ).
Another thing that i must state is the problem of FM Reception . It is simply terrible . In the same area where my mobile's FM reception is fine , Zen Stone's FM failed to give any reception .
I came to know about Zen Stone Plus from of my friend , who is using Zen Stone Plus GB without any problem for long time.
Pls tell me what to do now, since my player is compleately out of order now , and pls suggest me something regarding the issue of battery backup , FM reception ... etc.
Now i am in a total mess . I just dont know what to do with the set that is few days old .
Pls help urgently .

I would suggest getting in touch with support, they might be able to help you with this.
Go to the Support section of the website and select your product. On your right, click on Contact Us. You will be provided with a list of troubleshooting options. Click on the one closes to your issue. Go through the suggestions and if the does not work or you have already tried that, scroll to the bottom and click on No, escalate to email. This should bring you to the email form to contact support.

IMac Refuses to Read Brand New CDs

I've been having intermittent problems with the Mac reading certain CDs, but now I'm getting worried. I have five brand new CDs that I got for Christmas; I just took off the shrink-wrap. When I insert it, it makes some noises, and after a couple seconds, it ejects it back out. I put it back in, and it does the same thing again. I then tried the rest of the CDs, and the same thing happened with all of them. I just tried inserting a CD that I've owned for a while, though, and that one worked just fine. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

I had a couple of new CD's do the same thing. I think they had a light film residue left on them from the manufacturing process and after a light cleaning they worked just fine.

HT1338 As a teacher, I have purchased Gradekeeper and my brand new iMac is refusing to allow it to be opened. Help!

I am a teacher and have purchased Gradekeeper. My brand new (3 months old) iMac Leopard (or Snow Leopard - I am not certain) does not allow me to open my Gradekeeper Installer. Hence, I am unable to enter into my previous gradings.

That's likely the problem, Gatekeeper has to be bypassed.
If you got the version off the AppStore, it's likely a older version as AppStore software is about 4-8 weeks behind as Apple reviews each and every one, every time.
Also it might be the developer no longer wishes to be part of AppStore ecosystem, the 30% Apple cut might be too much.

Same setup, some brand new emacs refuse to login

OSX server 10.4.7, OD master, file serving only. I have 11 emacs (10.4.7)to set up for teachers. The teachers already have accounts and home directories, and have been using them successfully for quite some time, logging in from our computer lab (10.3.9) clients. I go through the setup screens, and can successfully see the network, connect to server while logged in locally, and get on internet, but when I add server to ldap in directory access - as I have before on identical machines - all looks correct, but when I try to login as a network user (doesn't matter which one) I get the dreaded 'you cannot login at this time. The home folder for this account is located on an AFP or SMB server" The weird thing is that I have successfully set up 3 identical machines (new emacs) and they login fine. 4 (so far) won't, and I cannot find any differences between the setups. I have tried adding server using FQDN, adding using IP address, removing various cache files, preference files, re-boots, etc. from searces of forums for this problem. Nothing has helped. I cannot track this down to a software update on the server (recently updated to 10.4.7, and security patch) because some work fine, some don't. Another post said to run the command 'hostname' in terminal, and make sure it was the FQDN of the server. IT IS NOT - the command hostname returns the name of the computer - but I don't know what to do to fix it. on the affected emacs, in terminal, 'hostname' returns computer name, eg "mrs-smiths-emac" on good emacs, 'hostname' returns computer name.local, eg "mrs-jones-emac.local"

As far as I know the TV 40TL963B supports an common USB 2.0 HS interface and the USB memory flash can be formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 files system. So there are no special requirements to the USB flash memory
