Brand new U410 Freezes while playing Video?

Hi,
So I just received my u410 through the mail (which I'm panicking about because the box came completely dented on one side) and turned it on and decided to test everything out on the computer. I was watching a TV show and in the middle of it, not only did the video freeze but so did my computer and I thought it was going to blue screen! It made the buzzing noise like when a hard drive is going to fail.
I hope this was just a one time thing and that its "normal"???? This is the second laptop I've gotten from lenovo, a week ago I returned the U310 because of the wifi manufacturing failure.
Please help?? Should I return this one too and say screw lenovo.....?

If the problem persist, then do a one key recovery. If onekey recovery doesnt solve then return it.

My Macbook pro keeps freezing while playing videos

experience frequent stalls/hangs, accompanied by the spinning beach ball progress indicator every time I play video's. weither it be on youtube or VLC player or any video player for that matter. It happens during games I have on here and also happens when loading iMovie and Final Cut Pro.

Very great point, so after exhausting all other options (repair disk permissions and booting up with install disc and repairing the disk) with no success, I did just what you recommended and erased the whole hard drive and re-installed the OS.
Ran into this problem a few times while attempting to erase the hard drive: the erasing/formatting would fail when the hard drive would randomly disappear from the list of drives!!!!
And as you can suspect - even with a freshly wiped hard drive, it STILL is freezing!! It's not a hard freeze like everything stops working, or I get the grey screen of death...the beach ball just keeps on spinning, Command+Tab doesn't allow me to switch between apps, but I can move the cursor around, adjust window positions, etc.
So here's what I'm suspecting - there is a hardware problem with the hard drive in that it will suddenly shut off, but leaving the OS still displaying, but of course not allowing the user to do anything. If this is the case, I'm assuming a replacement hard drive would be in order.
Is this likely a hard drive problem, logic board problem, over-heating problem, or what? Any insight would be extremely helpful.

IPod freezes while playing video

I just got a new 60GB iPod video, put an invisible shield on it, and synced it with my computer. I've had an iTunes account for a while, so I downloaded some of the tv shows they have in the store. I also downloaded dvd decoder and videora to convert some of my dvd's.
The Problem: when I play movies on my iPod that I ripped from dvd's (whether the movie is 1 minute long or 2 hours), they freeze 31 seconds in every time. Then they start playing again after about 5 seconds but with no sound. If I let it continue to play, it will not freeze. Then if press menu and click on the movie again, it will start playing with sound from where it left off, but freeze again after 30 seconds. But all the tv shows that I downloaded from iTunes play through without a problem. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Thanks a lot.

I don't know if this is a hardware issue, or software, which I doubt because I did a clean install of Snow Leopard. But anyway, I have this issue when I am watching video podcasts or movies where it would freeze for a couple of seconds, and then would start playing again, but it doesn't startup from where it froze. It would jump a couple of minutes forward, so I have to rewind back to where it left off and it would play fine. Is anyone on here having this issue?

I have this same problem while watching Mad Men episodes purchased from iTunes (while connected to my HDTV using a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter). The video and audio will freeze with no cursor or keyboard input possible for ~15-30 seconds. When it unfreezes, it starts playing not where it froze but with a gap missing similar to the length it froze.

I'm sorry, I didn't explain myself correctly. I was referring to watching a video on the iPod. It is really annoying when the video freezes momentarily, and the audio continues to play smoothly, but by the time the video catches up, you have lost several frames of your video. You know what I mean? Really annoying...

How can you "watch" a video while you are scrolling
around in your menus? There is only one screen on my
iPod and I can only use it to watch videos OR scroll
through menus. When I press the menu button while
watching a video, the iPod goes back to the previous
menu. Then, when I go back to the video, it starts
back exactly where it was when I pressed the menu
button in the first place. Apparently, it pauses
while you are looking through the menu screens. Now
with music, I understand what you're saying but I
haven't had any stuttering or anything while browsing
the menus. The video is a bad example because it
doesn't work like you have explained....

Help: iMac freeze while watching video

Hello,
Since Lion I sometimes have a serious freeze while watching videos.
It does not occur very often, it happens every month or so.
After upgrade to Mountain Lion I thought it would not happen anymore but this problem still persists.
Since Lion I had freezes while watching video on Youtube, with MplayerX, QuickTimePlayer, VLC and so on.
All freezes occured only in Fullscreen mode.
When my iMac is stuck the Display shows the current Video frame and plays a small fraction of the current audio in a loop.
The Keyboard and Mouse is unresponsive.
At this point the only option for me is to force a restart.
Does someone know a solution for this?

First do what whyisitsohard (HUH?) suggests. If that does not resolve the issue take a look at how much free space is available on your Hard drive. I would not recommend running Mac OS X with less than 10% free space remaining on your startup volume. The free space is used for hidden swap files that Mac OS X needs do to virtual memory, and for other temporary files used by the system. Once free space gets low, the remaining free space becomes more and more fragmented into small pieces. That makes it hard for Mac OS X to operate efficiently. This issue is most apparent when watching videos.

Repost: brand new mac won't play/recognise/mount audio-cd's

No idea what's going on here. I posted a question which I will paste below. Someone posted some suggestions for me (Dave Sawyer if I remember the name correctly, thanks again!) which lead me to ask wheter I was or was not supposed to have a file named cd info.cidb in a certain folder.
Now all of a sudden my thread is gone and I find the following mail in my inbox:

You wouldn't have that file unless you used iTunes to get CD metadata from Gracenote. I hate Gracenote, therefore I have never had that file on my system

Hi all!
I am totally new to the macbussines (got one for a month now) and not using cd's much I never tried importing one untill today... and it simply won't. I think it's supposed to show the audio-cd on the desktop and give me an 'import cd' button in itunes whenever I insert an audioCD right?
It won't do... it'll take it in, turn it a few times and slide it right out again.
What I tried so far:
* toying with itunes settings for importing (import cd & eject, show CD, ask to import cd etc)
* toying with the cd&dvd preferences under system preferences
* click the mount 'button' in disk utility as was suggested in all those threads regarding cd's not mounting first time (my cd's won't mount the second or 30th time either)
* resetting the PRAM
Nothing so far.
It does recognise DVD's but no audio cd's whatsoever, originals, burned ones. You name it. As I don't use CD's a lot the newest CD dates from 2003, but that can't be it, can it?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated...

Try to download the application VLC.
It is a media player that should be able to play any audio or video file you may have. If your videos play flawlessly using that application, then the issue is with iTunes and Quicktime, as they are both essentially similar software types when it comes to playing media.
In that case you may need to install a plug-in file called Perian, in order for the videos to play correctly within iTunes or at least Quicktime...

This is my first iphone but have used ipod touch for years. What settings should I have to hear phone call rings while playing videos?

There is no setting for that on the phone. Some carriers provide ringback tones, which play instead of the caller hearing a ring. But I am not aware of an app that would play a message prior to you picking up the phone. The amount of time before you pick up is not a constant, and if it lasts too long, then the call would go to voicemail.

If you ahven't already done so then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

New MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard 10.6) Freezes while playing Portal, WOW, etc,

I have the new macbook pro that came out February 2011 with Mac OS-X 10.6, and I have encountered multiple problems with the computer running sluggish and freezing up in some applications. For example while playing Portal, the computer will get extremely hot and everything will freeze while the fan slows down, then it will come back, and about 5 minutes later it does it again. Same thing happens with WOW and I'm sure with many other applications. Even will run slow while watching tv on Netflix. It's ridiculous and unacceptable. Per your user manual: Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings.
