Brand-new Z77A G45 not booting

Hello all. Just started putting a new build together the other day, using the Z77A G45. When I went to boot it up for the first time, it gave me the "Military Class III" splash screen, with the prompts to switch to POST, start BIOS setup, etc. However, pressing any of the keys doesn't do anything, and it shuts down after about twenty seconds or so. The CPU phase leds all turn on for a few seconds after it's powered on, but after that only the first one remains lit.
I thought it might be because it wasn't recognizing my USB keyboard, but I had the same problem even when I used the PS/2 converter that came with the keyboard. I tried clearing the CMOS, and it gave me a screen showing that it recognized everything plugged into the board, and prompted me to hit F1 to continue setup, which worked, but from there all I got was a black screen with an "underscore" in the upper left hand corner. Rebooting with only one stick of RAM didn't change the problem, and I've tried all the USB ports, with similar results.
I'm thinking that the problem lies in the CPU being damaged during installation, but there don't seem to be any bent pins.
Here's the build:
CPU - Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core
Motherboard - MSI Z77A-G45 ATX LGA1155
Memory - Kingston Blu Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333
Storage - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card - MSI GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB
Case - NZXT Tempest 410 ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply - SeaSonic 520W ATX12V / EPS12V
Operating System - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
Monitor - Asus VS238H-P 23.0"
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try it without any ram, you should get a beep. If not it seems to be RMA time.
This is not true depending on the board and bios version. Not all boards/ bios versions beep at all.

  • Brand new iMac will not boot, just make's funny "bonk" sound.

I have a brand new iMac (Intel, 20-inch flat panel). Just out of the box. Ran through set-up wizard. Used firewire to transfer files from an old CRT iMac. All was good for about an hour.
Tried to empty the trash. Finder says Trash was emptied, but, if I open the Trash, the 50-odd files I just deleted are still visible! If I try to select one, its icon immediately disappears. Hmmm....
I decide it's time to restart.
Upon restart, computer will not boot.
I push the power button. I hear the startup chime as usual. Screen lights up gray. But no apple logo on the screen. There is a long pause. Screen remains gray. Computer then starts making a soft "bonk" sound every 4-5 seconds. (Kind of hard to describe the sound, just imagine clipping the very first fraction of a second of the normal Mac startup chime, and repeating it every couple seconds.) This continues indefinitely.
If someone has experienced this, or has advice, please let me know your thoughts. Feeling rather bummed. Thanks in advance!!!
    iMac Intel 20-inch 2.16 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Boot from the Install Disk 1
I cannot boot at all (see my post above). The
machine just sits there with a blank gray screen.
I appreciate the article link, though. I've already
read it and it will make a great reference for the
future, provided I can get back to a place where this
    iMac actually runs.
Since you're new to Macs, I'm sure you don't realize that while your iMac is sitting there with only a gray screen, you can insert/push in "Install Disc 1" - and it will be accepted. Then press and hold down the power button until iMac shuts down. After waiting a few seconds until everything has settled, press power button and immediately upon hearing the usual Mac startup tone/chime/chord hold down the "c" key until you see the spinning progress indicator below the Apple logo. It will boot to the DVD, you will be able to use (from the Utilties pull-down menu) Disk Utility to "repair" the hard drive directory, then you will be able to quit the installation process, choose Startup Disk from that same Utilities pull-down, and restart your iMac:)

  • New z77a-g45 no boot no video

    I just got a brand new g45 mobo and a 3570k.
I have assembled it and theres no video or activity.
The cpu phase leds only shows one led lit.
The cpu fan kicks in so there is power going into the mobo
I have checked the cpu pins and didnt see any bent ones and I have plugged the right power cables from the power supply.
I have removed all disks, the video card and tried with no memory sticks and with only one stick.
Because nothing happens I dont know how to troubleshoot before deciding to do a Rma.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

I did check the pins in the socket with a magnifying glass. They all looked perfect. The problem was not from there.
I looked at all the board and didnt see anything unusual but I am not an electronics expert so there could be something wrong.
I am sending the board back. Believe me that its not by choice because I bought online and now it will be probably 2 weeks before I get the replacement. Not a happy camper.
Another thing that happened and I am mad as hell, is that to RMA the ask to put the cover plate back over the socket to protect it and I didnt know how the plate was set up so I ended up touching slightly the pins.
I was so mad... I straightened them as best as I could and the tip of the pins are aligned but you can tell it doesnt look smooth as before.
I hope the store will understand and after doing whatever they do the board was really defective.

  • MSI Z77A-G45 not booting

    Hey,
I just built my PC and with the test build everything did it alright, but now when I have it installed in my case it wont boot up. It will only show a little stripe in the upper left corner and it will show 99 all down in the right corner. All the fans are spinning and all the buttons from the case are working. The 4 little blue lights in the upper right corner in the board are on. My specs: i5 3570K, Corsair Vengeance PC14900 CL9, MSI GTX 660 ti, Gelid Solutions Tranquillo rev. 2. Please help me!

Now it just shows the same as before, 99 in the bottom right corner and a stripe in the upper left corner. It wont show that you can acces the BIOS by pressing Delete. When I tested it out of the case it was going on and of (see my last post) But the with the "test build" everything worked. Maybe the motherboard was damaged when I was putting it in the case.
If I am understanding correctly, it is working out of the case but not installed. Sound like you have an extra stand-off installed in the case causing a short.

  • TS1702 My brand new iphone5 will not connect to my home wifi even though my ipad and old iphone do connect with no problem. What can I do?

My brand new iphone5 will not connect to my home wifi even though it recognizes it. My ipad and my old iphone4s connect with no problem. Any thoughts?

Although your other devices connect okay, it would be worth resetting your router by switching if off for disconnecting it from mains power for 2 minutes and then switch it on again.
Good luck and do report back.

  • My brand new PB will not charge when in standby or when on

I played with a number of PB's so far and finally have my own but... My brand new PB will not charge when in standby or when on; as soon as I plug the charger into the USB port it detects it and brings the screen up (if in standby) showing the lighting bolt on the battery but it does not charge; the lighting bolt stays but the % charge does not change (or hopefully increase) at all; it will actually decrease (??); the only way I can charge it is when I attach the charger and the PB is powered off… the PB brings the red (or green can't remember) LED on and starts to flash it on off and charges; tried the hard reset with no change; I am running the latest OS release 1.0.8.6067. Has anyone seen this? Is it h/w or f/w? Any Fix?

Here's a final update on this... the units goes back to its maker or the store sometimes tomorrow... Why? First I tried to understand if this was s/w or h/w related or maybe both before calling support which in the end I did; so I did try a different charger, hard resetting the unit, discharging and recharging etc; nothing helped or fixed the charging in standby; the unit continued to charge only after being turned off and then plugged into the charger. Here's what I learned:
    1. Going through the initial setup and OS update it is quite possible for the unit to NOT load the OS image correctly i.e.  it appears that it loaded the OS and displays the OS version as if it loaded properly when in fact it did not and the image loaded is corrupt. I found this out during a live session with support when they were looking at my PC screen while the PB was connected to the PC only to point out that the Desktop Manager was showing a s/w update being available (1.0.8 bundle 6067) while the unit was reporting 1.0.0 bundle 0. Strange, I thought I already had 1.0.8.6067... after accepting the update, which takes a bit to load, I started more testing, charging, discharging, hard reset (i.e. Volume Up + Power) etc with no positive results to report. This also proved that the USB port is working, both data (PC to PB communication alright) and power (PB displays the plug over the battery bar when the power contact work)
    2. The charger I have works and it is the correct one: P/N PSM09A-050RIM; make sure it is not one of the incorrectly rated chargers some received.
    3. In order to reduce the amount of current the unit consumes when on, you have to run the Video Chat app at least once and acknowledge the (c) page; otherwise this remains as a background app that take more CPU cycles on the battery. After doing this I did notice a slight improvement in the sense that PB did charge some instead of discharging. The problem is that it only charged to about 60% and did not move higher no matter how long I waited (yes I did reset just to make sure it is not the s/w acting up and deciding to not update the power bar)
    4. The way the RIM RMA works is like this: they start the process for you to return the unit back for repair which I understand may take 10 days; you may get a unit to use for this time if so desired, it will be charged to your CC; your unit may get repaired if possible; if not possible to repair, your new unit will be replaced with a refurbished unit; once you get some unit back you need to send the “10 day replacement unit” to RIM to get your CC charge cleared. I find that this program is good for when you can not return the unit to the place you purchased it from. Otherwise it is not good as I do not like getting a refurb for something I consider brand new (not to mention that you may get a unit with a few bright or dark pixels)
    5. Throughout this process I looked at three (3) Playbooks: 2 had bright pixels and were returned immediately; this last one does not charge correctly. No win for me!
    6. The battery lasts approx 4 hours with the unit playing a video clip in a loop and WiFi on with a WEB pulled stop watch running as well (had to allow multi tasking in setup/general).
Finally, my theory about this problem is that it is h/w related and that it is caused by the noise the board or the display is making when the unit is either on or in standby; a component not soldered properly (cold joint) or out of spec may be the culprit; for example a resistor in resistor divider monitoring the battery voltage or a decoupling capacitor missing or not soldered...

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
What are you (manually) or the project (automatically) setting as the project preset?
(See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size,
and Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if fields look grayed out).
What are the properties of these source media, including file extension? The brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the

When the source media hit the Timeline for the first time, is there an orange line over their content? Or is there
no colored line and an orange line appears over them only after you have edited them?
Please elaborate on "poof" after rendering the Timeline content by pressing the Render button above the Timeline content with the orange line over it.

  • Brand new machines are not able to boot to Disk or Network

    Hi all,
Ok so I have several new iMac's and MacBook Pro's that I am trying to get to boot to the network so that I can run DeployStudio to image with a dual boot OS. I keep running into a problem in which the machine will boot to the HD but will not boot to the network (N key) this also happens when i try to boot to disk (C key) instead the machine just hangs at the white screen. Even when I try options, they system recognizes the CD and network, but when selected will just hang again at the white screen. It seems that the only thing I can get the systems to boot is the HD and target mode (T key).
I had this happen a couple weeks ago with a MacBook Pro and Apple has said it may be a bad logic board and ended up replacing it (still waiting on the replacement). I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue and has found a solution. This problem has been going on for about a month now and is becoming more evident closer the new semester comes. Any help would be appreciated.

My guess is that the upper level IT drones need to create an image that will boot the newest Macs & have not yet done so. See Mac OS X Server: Creating a single NetBoot or NetInstall image for multiple Mac models for more about this. From that source:
"When Apple releases newer hardware and there is not a newer retail installation disc available yet, you should use the disc that shipped with the computer to create a separate image."

  • Brand new iMac won't boot :-(

    Hi All,
I just got a brand new iMac. I did a clean install of Leopard, imported a couple of CDs into iTunes, and then thought I'd give Bootcamp a go.
I created the disk and the machine duly rebooted into Windows setup. As the installer couldn't see the Bootcamp partition (I was using XP without SP2). I told the installer to quit and reboot.
Now all I get is a hanging white screen when I power up my iMac. If i hold down the Alt key I get a mouse pointer which locks up after a couple of seconds and that's it.
    I've tried:
    - Holding down alt on bootup - this brings up a pointer which locks after about 2 seconds
    - Holding down alt+C - with Leopard in the drive - nothing happens
    - Zapping the PVRAM - AltCMD+PR" - this had no effect
    - Resetting the SMU - hold down power whilst plugging in - now all the fans are running at maximum speed
    - An open firmware update as per this post:

    Is the machine completely toast?

The same thing happened to me this last week. After talking to Apple on the phone for hours they decided that it was dead and declared it doa (even though it was working for a few hours before boot camp). I am getting my new one this week. I can promise you that boot camp will not be put used on this one.

  • My new MacBookPro will not boot after an upgrade to Yosemite

I upgraded my brand-new (month old) MacBook Pro to Yosemite tonight, giving it plenty of time to reboot itself -- twice -- finally putting up the login screen.
After logging in, I noticed that the WiFI was off, and even worse, it would not turn on, so I rebooted it again.
After rebooting, it went through another long boot, with a thin slider showing progress, and then it showed the login screen.
I logged in, and then was able to manually enable the WiFi.
However, the system fan was spinning quite loudly.  I checked for any 100% or more processes, but the system was actually quite un-busy.  There was no reason for the fan to be spinning full speed.  The office temperature is a very mild 71 degrees.
So, I did a Shutdown from the Apple menu and left for dinner.
A couple of hours later, came back to boot it, hit the power button, and .. no response.  The MBP was plugged in with power, so it should not be out of battery. I tried holding down the power button for 10s and then 20s of seconds: no joy.
Does anyone know of a way to power up the system?  I tried CMD-OPT P R with power button, 10s and 20s, but still no joy.  The system appears to be completely, utterly dead.
At this point, it's looking like a "bricked" MBP, and I'll have to take it to the Apple store.
Very disappointed in this OS upgrade experience, and Apple's apparent decline in quality control since Steve has passed on.  I guess no one is holding production's virtual toes to the fire anymore, eh?

    Hey aks_sba,
Thanks for the question. There are a few more troubleshooting steps you can attempt before visiting an Apple Store, including resetting the SMC:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Pairing with brand new 2008 bluetooth keyboard, Boot Camp 2.0

I have a very simple question. I've searched the forums and seen a lot of information about older versions of Boot Camp, old drivers, and a lot of problems. However, none of these answers have really helped.
I have a brand new Bluetooth keyboard - brand new, as in bought it last week.
I have a relatively new MacBook Pro. Relatively new, as in bought it six months ago.
The Bluetooth keyboard works stunningly well under OS X 10.5.4. I'm using it right now. It works. I don't want that to stop.
So the question: can I have the keyboard work under BOTH Windows XP (under boot camp) AND OS X?
I did try to see if I could make it work....
    1. Reboot under XP (boot camp whatever the latest version is, I installed boot camp two weeks ago).
    2. Select Control Panel - Bluetooth Devices
    3. Check the box
    4. Press button on right side of keyboard
    5. Quickly press "next" button.
The first time I did this, the keyboard came up in the dialog box. It then asked me for a pass key, which I typed on my laptop's keyboard. I then tried typing the same pass key (my phone #) on the bluetooth keyboard and pressing Enter. The dialog box closed.
The keyboard did not work. At all.
Rebooted Windows. Keyboard still did not work. "Did not work" means did not register any key presses at all in the Notepad application.
The second time I tried steps 1-5 I got a different result. Instead of listing my keyboard, the Bluetooth wizard couldn't find a keyboard, or any nearby bluetooth devices.
So, if I 'un pair' the keyboard under OS X, and then 're pair' the keyboard under Windows, will I then need to 'un pair' the keyboard under Windows and then 're pair' it under OS X to make it work?

I paired my brand new Bluetooth keyboard (3 days old) with both the OSX and WinXP sides of my Mac Pro without a problem. I did OSX first and then Windows. On the Windows side it displayed a passkey but never gave me a chance to enter it on the keyboard. It just moved on to the next dialog screen and from then on it worked.

  • Brand new MBP will only boot to blue screen

    Help!
Worked fine for about an hour or two and then completely locked up. I had to do a forced shutdown to get it to turn off.. But now it will only boot to this weird blue screen with just a cursor.
    Any ideas?

Actually, for a brand new machine a clean install is not a bad idea.
The original disc images are copied in bulk. The tiniest little glitch can cause later problems. It really doesn't add that much time to the initial setup process and you can also discount it as a cause if the problem re-occurs.
You should not have to do a clean install again.

Has the VGA been tested in another machine to verify it works? Do you have access to other VGA's you can test in the primary graphics PCI-E 16X33 slot? If nothing works, then it can be a troubleshooting extravaganza! First recommendation would be to test outside the case on a plain piece of cardboard or untreated wood surface, barebones configuration. Inspect the case for any errant standoffs that may be shorting/grounding the PCI-E slot. The primary graphics PCI-E slot not working can also be caused by a pin problem in the CPU socket. A bright light and magnifier will be needed for socket pin inspection.

Ooops, my mistake.  Thanks for pointing it out.
Another idea is to make sure the firmware is updated on the router.
Also, from the control panel of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Network Test.  It will self-test the printer radio.
