  • My brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way.

Hi my brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way. If I try to restart it or shut it down, it will go like it is starting up, but goes to a gray screen and stays there. I can see the mouse and move it, but it won't turn all the way on. What is wrong with it? It had been working fine since I got it, but today it hasn't been.

You may have to see if troubleshooting this issue can help, though the instructions on a process of elimination by symptoms are tedious in the following support article, and are suggested to be performed ahead of trying the process described in the title.
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

For the actual SMC reset, note subsection in above, instructions click-open on blue text:
    >Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
If the computer does not shut down, and just hangs there, try pressing the power button down for 15 seconds. Check the suggestions in the above article to see if any of them can be used, if the computer will power-up.
There is another item that sometimes can help, but the main issue you say could be resolved by the SMC reset; this other thing is involved NVRAM (non-volatile random access memory) so here's an article about it.

You may have to call ahead to the nearest Apple Store for an appointment to see a Genius; or at authorized reseller, their service product specialist who should be trained to understand how to proceed, just in case there is a hardware issue behind the symptoms. When you call, be sure to have the serial number and purchase date available, when you call an official store.
Or use the 'Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support' to start the process...

    Hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My brand new MacBook Pro won't turn on. What's the deal with this?

I got the thing yesterday. Sat down with it last night and everything started up fine. I set up my account and then it was time for updates. Naturally, I said yes to the updates. They downloaded, they installed, and that was the last time my brand new MacBook Pro turned on. I've checked to see that the battery is fully charged. I've tried plugging into other outlets. I've tried removing the battery and the power cord and pressing the power button for 5 seconds. Nothing has worked. When I put my ear up to it while pressing the power button, I can hear it try to start and get about 2-3 seconds in to start up and then a click and nothing. Does anybody have any idea what the heck has happened here?

  • Brand new macbook pro won't turn on

I bought the new macbook pro on May 15 2010 from Best Buy. It has up til now been working great. When i tried to wake it from sleep today it would not turn on. It isn't even charging with the power cord in (the little light on the power cord isn't on). I guess I bought a brand new dud. Any suggestions?

wow thanks guys. So I took it back to best buy today and of course the Geeksquad guy comes back to me and says it was working. Apparently the battery drained down to 0. I have no idea how exactly that happened. I always leave it plugged in and it was the last time i used it before it stopped working. i put it to sleep, and when i tried to wake it the next day i got absolutely nothing. I did try other outlets, and was able to function my PC laptop on those same outlets, but for whatever reason my MAC wouldn't even charge (the little light on the power cord didn't light up when it was plugged in). Ugh. Anyway, so all is well now i guess, cause it's working. I still don't understand how it was able to drain itself all the way to 0 while asleep and then refuse to charge no matter what outlet i tried. Geeksquad guy said the adapter was fine. And my outlets worked when i plugged other things into them. Guess i'll leave well enough alone?

  • Brand New iPod classic won't turn on.

Minutes after getting home with my new iPod I plugged it into my computer and synced my library with it, afterwards it asked me to install an update and I let it, it told me it was going to reboot, it shut off and now it won't turn back on. I know there's some life in it as when I hold down the reset combo i hear windows indicate that I've disconnected and reconnected a USB device however nothing displays on the screen and iTunes tells me that it cannot recognize the iPod. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an additional note now when the I connect the iPod windows lists a "Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver" in device manager.

  • Brand new iPad mini won't turn on

I just got a brand new iPad mini not even 24 hours ago. I've taken absolute perfect care of it and its been working fine, but I was just listening to music on it with the charger plugged in, and all of a sudden it just blacks out. I've tried everything including pressing the on/off and home buttons at the same time but nothing works. Please help!!!!!!!!

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple logo.

  • Brand new 27" iMac won't turn on anymore.

I bought this computer new on Friday last week. I only got it back from a data transfer yesterday.
Everything was fine until my screen grayed out and said I have to shut down the computer. I shut it down and now it won'tturn back on. I can here the hard drive and fan spin but there is nothing happening on the monitor.
    Any ideas?

If the plug is flush inside the back of the machine, and the power outlet you have it connected to works for a lamp, you have a lemon.  Bring it back for an exchange.

  • Brand new iPhone 6 won't turn on

I had my new iPhone 6 yesterday and everythings seems to be fine. It had more than half charge with no open apps on the background when i went to sleep and it was turned off in the morning. The alarm had not ringed. So i have tried everything including hard resetting, charging and reading everything i could find. Yet, there is no response from the device. Can someone please comment if they are able to solve this without having to go to store again.

How long did you try and charge it? Plug the device in and make sure that you have allowed it to charge undisturbed for at least 30 minutes. With it still connected to the charger, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release the buttons. This could take up to 30 seconds. The phone should reboot at that time.
If this does not help, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple store or authorized Apple service provider to have the device looked at.

  • Brand new Iphone 4s won't turn on or reset

I 've upgraded my phone and got the 4s, excited times although It won't charge either on the socket or laptop. It did charge on the first time from laptop but run the battery out so quick, just turned it on, no phone call, nothing and it went dead in 5 hours. Got home the night, plugged it in my laptop and got really hot and frezed the laptop so needed to unpluged it.
    Itunes not recognise it either...
I tried to reset it, nothing. Apple proving that they product are really diferent than the others

Apple will not touch your phone since you changed the screen yourself.  Bring your phone to a 3rd party repair shop and see what they say.

  • Brand new iPad 2 won't turn on

I literally just bought my iPad 2 about 4 hours ago. It worked at the Apple store, and then when I turned it on at home, it worked for a grand total of 5 minutes before the screen went black. I haven't been able to turn it on since. I've already tried holding the sleep and home buttons for 10 - 15 seconds about 10 separate times and the apple logo never comes up. I've even held both buttons for over 2 minutes and still nothing. I  tried this without the charger, then I did try to with the adapter plugged in. It's not even recognizing that it's being charged. That aside, the battery should already BE fully charged because when it was working an hour ago the battery sign said I had 76% left. I'm a little irritated since I just got it, but any suggestions, or did I just get a lemon?

You actually sound as though you're doing everything about right, with the following one suggestion: Plug it in to the Power Adapter and leave it plugged in for a good 20-30 minutes or until you see and hear it come back to life.
The iPad does go dark and silent when the battery goes completely flat and you really should confirm that that's not what's going on, regardless of whether or not you think that should be happening. For example, it's possible that your battery's metering was, is, out of whack.
Anyway, if that doesn't bring it back to life and you can't make it react at all, view it as a lemon and cart it back. It's rare to have that happen, but they are machines, built by men, and ...... you got lucky.

  • My brand new Zen player br

So I bought myself a shiny new Zen player December 23 as a nice Christmas gift. I carried it with me on a skiing trip a couple of days after that and used it while going down the mountains. I liked the cool features it had, like really good sound quality, a bright screen and a neat user interface. Also the battery life was impressi've and good software came bundled with the player. My Zen player made my skiing trip something special.
Fast forward to December 3 and new years eve. I had decided to hang out at a friends house and with a bunch of people to celebrate the new year. He li'ves across town so I rocked some tunes on my Zen on the subway to his place. The ride felt a lot shorter than it is, thanks to all the good music. When I well arri'ved I carefully put the player in my jacket pocket, hoping to use my little buddy while taking the subway home, after the new years party.
A half an hour into the party I realize that my friends playlist for the night consists of the downloaded ITunes music on his sisters MacBook. I quickly decide that we're gonna have the Zen DJ a little session and run upstairs to go fetch it. But upon turning it on the screen looks all white and flickering, I had heard of some players needing to be reset if this occurs, but nothing could help my little buddy! I tried resetting it and even reformatting it back home, nothing helped.
I finally returned it to the place where I got it to see why it had suddenly broken down like that. The guy stared at me and said that it looked like the had been pressure applied to it, causing the screen to break. I concurred that it in fact looked brand new and had no visible marks on it - so they decided to send it off to the repair service to get it checked out.
A couple of days later the store calls me and says the repair service confirmed their suspicions that some pressure had been applied to the screen. Very odd since I only left it in my jacket pocket for 30 minutes before returning to go get it on new years eve. Also he says that it isn't covered by Creatives product guarantee, but they've offered to replace the screen for 90$. I decide to let my little buddy go and tell the store to do whatever they want to do with it (I would hope they cremate it, but you never know).
I am sad that my little buddy is gone now... but I will always remember our ski trip together.
Thank you and I wish you have more luck with your Zen players!

    Hello all,
Am new and this is my first post. I have just receive my brand-new Zen x-fi 6gb. Only two days old and it has gone completely "dead". It will not switch on and ofcourse the computer cannot "see" it either. Before i return it, am wondering if someone can advise me on this matter, or if you have experienced this problem before.

There are things you can do however since it is only 2 days since you got it return it. If it's not working properly now it may just be the start of more issues.

  • My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.

My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.  I put in my password and then get a screen that says "Download Now".  I can't press the okay button to start the download.  What should I do?  All of the other buttons on the screen work, so I don't think it is broken.

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.

  • Brand New Samsung s4 Won't Install Apps

My Samsung S4 (brand new last night) won't install any apps. I click install, and it highlights like it's going to, but then it does nothing.

That's odd mmchenry, let's get to the bottom of this. Are you trying this on 4G LTE or wi-fi? Launch your Play Store, select the Menu icon on the top left>Settings>Is the option to require a password enabled? If so, disable it. You can also try Settings>Application Manager>Playstore>Stop. Let me know if this works.

  • My Zen Touch won't turn on or char

My Zen Touch won't turn on, nor will it charge.
    Here's what happened:
    . I hadn't used it for about a week
    2. I try to turn it on, and nothing happens. It's not locked.
    3. I plug it into the charger and nothing happens.
    4. I reset it, and the title screen appears. I wait for the title screen to disappear, but it doesn't. It doesn't charge either.
    5. I take out the charger and it turns off! I try to turn it back on and still nothing happens.
    6. I plug the charger back in and, yet again, the title screen appears but doesn't change or charge.
It seems like the battery life has run out, but it won't charge.
    WHAT CAN I DO!?

Nevermind, I just went and checked my mp3 player (I left it on the charger) and now it is charging. I conclude that the battery was dead and I was just impatient :P
    Thanks anyway.

  • Brand New Zen Neeon Froz

I recieved a brand new Zen Neeon for Christmas. While i was listening to it, it just froze up. I wasn't even touching the MP3 player, so i don' think i did anything to it to make it freeze up. Is there anything
I can do to unfreeze it's

I believe the Neeon has a reset button, have a look for it and then use something like a bent paperclip to press it. Don't use anything sharp.
