BRARCHIVE Error
Hi
We are running PI 7.1 EHP1 on Windows (VM) / Oracle.
I ran into a error while doing a online consistent backup using Legato Networker.
The database backup part runs fine however the one which has to do with the offline redo logs fails.
The error thrown is "0005 Error during processing"

Prior to running the backup I have copied the backint file to the brtools directory and the INITSID.UTL to the database directory.
backup_dev_type in initsid.sap is set to util_file. Should util_file_online be set instead of util_file?
The value "util_par_file" parameter in initsid.sap is set to the location of INITSID.UTL
One thing that I noticed which was a mismatch between the initsid.sap file and the configuration done on Networker is that
In initsid.sap backup_type = offline is set however in networker this is set to Online consistent backup.
Thoughts?
thanks
ravi
Earlier there was one job configured which would do a consistent backup + offline redo logs
Now,
I created two jobs in EMC Legato Networker (one for the backup and the other for the redo logs). That was i work around i found.
It is a work around that worked

as per above error, at first the redo log file is getting saved, but not able to find the same at the central (target) archive log server. we referred to the BR errors Notes & others in market place & browsed a lot on the topic, but nothing was related & helpful to solve.
Our environment is Win 2003/Oralce/ECC6.0
Suggestions are welcome & Please advice
Regards,
ChaitanyaHello Nick,
Size of 1 archive log is 48.361 MB & total no of archived logs moved to central server are 7 (total size 341.445 MB) from the time of the start of BRarchive run.
When it was processing the 8th Archive log (which it founds, process, then shows as SAVED) to central archive server, it throws the error as mentioned in the post.
#SAVED.... /Developmentserver/ERD/ERDARCHARC00420_0708032176.001 #1/8
When I recheck the location of the archive log, it is sill present in the application server, rather to be in central archive server.
My issue is, when it was able to process the last 7 logs properly, why it is showing an error for 8th log?
Note: when I run the brarchive command again, the log will be moved properly (where the command use to run uninterrupted for more than 8 days before, bcos of this issue it is terminating in 2 days)
Please advice

hello everyone
i am facing the problem in sapcar please provide me the solution
SAPCAR -xvf DBATL700O10_48-20001000.SAR
SAPCAR: processing archive DBATL700O10_48-20001000.SAR (version 2.01)
x brarchive
SAPCAR: could not open for writing brarchive (error 28). Permission denied
thanksHi
First take backup of the existing run folder to oldrun
now, copy the existing SAPCAR file to another location like /home/tmp/SAPCAR
also remane saposcol to saposcol.tmpold
now, extract the SAPEXE file on /home/tmp/SAPCAR from the /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run directory.
I hope this helps..

A new system which was installed with Oracle 11.2.0.2 doesn't have any problems with online backups.
Any help is appreciated!Hi,
did you create the other link according to the upgrade guide (point 5.5) ?
You need to create this link so that BR*Tools
(which is linked to the Oracle 10.2 client)
can use the newer Oracle 11.2 clients.
After the software installation has finished,
create a symbolic link in $ORACLE_HOME/lib as follows:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib
ln u2013s libnnz11.so libnnz10.so
or (HP-UX)
ln u2013s libnnz11.sl libnnz10.sl

Second part: For the DP job, there can be set different environment settings inside the DP job.
Did you check if there are still relicts from the previous release ?
You could integrate a small pre-exec script into the job and let it plot the output of
id
env
set
to a logfile, just to see which values the backup is using.

Brarchive - BR0301W - ORA-00257: archiver error
Hi all,
when calling /usr/sap/B16/SYS/exe/run/brarchive -u / -p initB16.sap -d rman_util -sd and there already is an archiver stuck I get the following error:
BR0002I BRARCHIVE 7.20 (16)
BR0006I Start of offline redolog processing: aehmrvjb.svd 2011-12-23 09.41.11

BR0301W SQL error -257 at location BrDbConnect-2, SQL statement:
'CONNECT /'
ORA-00257: archiver error. Connect internal only, until freed.
brarchive tries to create a pfile from the spfile before calls rman to archive the offline log files.
I assume, that this is done by calling sqlplus with 'CONNECT /'' which fails because connecting as sysdba is necessary in this situation.
Any suggestions how to circumvent this, so that the above error message doesn't show up?
The problem doesen't seem to be critical because brarchive still is able to call RMAN successfully and by this the archiver stuck is resolved. It would be better, though, if brarchive doesn't run into any errors at all.
Thanks for your support.
Best Rgs,
ThorstenHi there,
just to clarify: brarchive has no problem to archive the offline redologs themselves:
The problem doesen't seem to be critical because brarchive still is able to call RMAN successfully and by this the archiver stuck is resolved. It would be better, though, if brarchive doesn't run into any errors at all.
The actual problem is, that brarchive tries to create a pfile from the spfile via a sqlplus call and it tries to do this by "connect /" without the sysdba option. This behavior results in the error message I posted.
What I'd actualy like to know if there's any way to explicitly tell brarchive to connect with the sysdba option?

SAP DB13 BRARCHIVE with UNC path causes an Error
Hi,
i try to start brarchive with "backup_dev_type = disk", "archive_function = save_delete" and "archive_copy_dir =
isrmsw109\SAP_Backup\SM1\Archive". From DB13 I get an error that the Directory was not found:

When I execute brarchive from brtools with the same init<???>.sap file it works fine.
Has anybody an idea???
Thx for reply.
JoachimI´ve found the solution.
Alle Servers are Standalone. I´ve create on the Share Server a User calles "SAPService" and granted to this user admin rights.
Now it works. -
BR0051 BRARCHIVE Terminated withn errors
Hi Experts,
I have a scheduled Whole Database online + redo log backup in DB13, it is running smoothly until the color status for the process turned red in db13. When I looked at the action details it says "Finished with error" then I looked at the job log and I Got "BR0051 BRARCHIVE terminated with errors". I checked the action log but no red line which specifies the problem.
What should I do to fix this one? I suspect an earlier error which says "BR0398E detected corrupted blocks in G:\oracle\PRD\SAPDATA4\SR3_16\SR3.DATA16
Please help me on this one thanks! My whole database online + redo log backup is scheduled at 21:00 and with finishing time 23:00 which is scheduled via db13.
I have another online + redolog backup scheduled at 21:00 also
You should be able to find this ..delete your current schedule from DB13 and check if still backup is running , also any third party software you are using ?
About the data corruption, how can I actually fix this? and is my wholedatabase online backup safe even if it is successful with this kind of error?
Read Note provided above and also you can run DBVERIFY to confirm the about objects.

I have already checked
1) The permissions of SIDADM for the directory SAPARCH etc. and it has 'full control'.
2) Permissions of SIDPADM and SAPServiceSID are similar.
3) R3trans -d gives return code 0. So does R3trans -x.
4) The initSID.utl, initSID.sap and initSID.ora files are fine and similar to rest of the systems.
Please advice.

Kunal.Hi All,
Thanks for your reply. I found that SAPDATA_HOME was not set and setting that solved the problem.
But I can still see the following error in the log:
BR0301W SQL error -1031 at location BraDbLogOpen-5

BR0324W Insertion of database log header failed
Tho the archive log backups are running fine now.
What can we do for this error ? I have already executed sapdba_role.sql but that didnt help.
Once again, its Oracle 9.2 on Windows 2003 server. No ORASID only SIDADM. -

Job finishedHi,
not sure if the recommendations given will address this issue.
You are getting this error:
BR0301E SQL error -1017 at location BrDbConnect-2, SQL statement:
'CONNECT /'
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
the log file indicates:
> No application server found on database host - rsh/gateway will be used
This indicated that the user that is connecting from the AS to the DB server is not properly configured to perform the DB tasks on it.
So, first question would be to know if you have configured a gateway on the DB server and how, or if you are using remote shell.
Second question, you can do backups on the DB server.
> I can run backupjob sucessfully directly from BRtools on database server
How did you run exactly the backup job (what is the exact command line, what is the exact OS user that executed it)?
What is the OS of the DB server?
I have reread your post, your OS is windows therefore you fall in the "typical" error in Windows.
You have executed your backup as <sid>ADM and it works. Unfortunatelly, in windows, SAP is exectuted by SAPSERVICE<sid>, and this is the user who should be connecting to your DB server, and this is the user who cannot execute the backup.
The fact that you can run the backup with <sid>ADM in Windows does not means that you have SAPService<sid> properly configured.
For the error (see before) I think your ops$ user for this user is not properly configured in the DB server. take a look at the note mentioned by KT and pay attention to the SAPSERVICE<sid> configuration

Veda KumarHi,
It seems to be a new installation and if you have not activated archive logs then follow below steps :
Log in to your database server and issue the following commands:
db2 update db cfg for SID using LOGARCHMETH1 DISK:/db2/SID/log_archive
take a offline backup
Afterwards you have to restart the instance through db2stop force and db2start.
During the restart the log files are copied by DB2 to the log_archive

Error while executing the table statistics using Brtools
Dear Team,
We are getting ORA-01031: insufficient privileges error whenever we have tried to execute the update or table statistics using brtools on our SAP development server. I have checked the permissions of sapcheck directory and changed it to 775 still error remains the same. I have observed, it is failing to create the sta or chk files in sapcheck directory after executing update statistics using Brtools.

Thanks for your responses.
Permissions are set as below for br* files.

-rwxrwxr-x 1 oradev sapsys 3437688 Oct 31 2008 brarchive
-rwxrwxr-x 1 oradev sapsys 3547760 Oct 31 2008 brbackup

I guess it is fine because with these set of permissions, it is working absolutely fine in my quality system.
QAS Permissions are as belows for your information
sap-qas:qa1adm 22> ls -ltr br*
