Brave new world

the atmosphäre in this forums is not that good as it was some years ago ...
... it takes more time to read the forums and stay informed
... because there are more "you're stupid! <-> no you are!" discussions around
the consequence i'm taking:
untill now i read the forums and tried to help anyone i see with a problem i know (or may guess) a solution. tihs also others did and our community was one of the most friendly around. people spoke around that archers are friendly, fast and competent.
for the next few weeks i will go on distance and use the forum only for my own purposes (e.g. searching for informations) ... then, i will check if the atmosphäre changed to better and if not, i will continue untill unknown ignoring this forums.
what this means for you:
- if you have an interesting PKGBUILD that i might have seen in the forums but didn't because i'm not any more reading the forums, feel free to contact me per email ... especially if these pkgs have to do something about multimedia or science i'm interested in them
- if you have information/kriticism/feedback for any of my pkgs, contact me per email (discussions about amarok or other pkgs that i may miss in the forums ++)
- if you need help about linux and archlinux, you run into a problem or what ever, i hope that there are still enough contributors in this forums to answer your questions. if not (as if the atmosphäre is bad, people will stop spending time in it) then you should think about starting to make the atmospäre better by stopping destructive and unproductive discussions in the roots by explaining the poster (pm or reply to post) that this is not the place for flame or hoax or destructive messages (oppinions are not destructive, as long as they are not against people - they may be against actions people did but they should not be against people per se)
this subject is discussed in other threads ...
... what i see as a bad solution is adding more mods: the reason: if you have more mods you are not doing prevention but trying to keep the illness under control. this strategy never worked and never will ... it is almost a natural law ... e.g. in the usa, everybody has a gun and there are a lot of police and i-don-t-know-what per number of citisens but the problem is not solved (instead the jails are full) ... also it is wrong that citisen do self-justice. the key (european way, canadian way, ...) is prevention by acting as a healthy community (i heared that in canada people do not walk around with guns and are in general more friendly to others). what i mean is difficult to explain: ... but on examples it may be possible:
- if you see a destructive post ("arch is bad" - "arch devs are  ..." ...) where you think that this may end in a bad way, post your observance in this post asking the person who started it what the intention was. in off-topic, you may have "fun" as intention but if it is mischievousness and not fun for all people involved, then it is no fun. use common sense do decide! then, if this person is reasonable, the community then can turn such discussions into productive discussions. if not, pm a mod for help (but not before). --- maybe this is the wrong way, but having 100 mods does not help, that i will guarantee you!
good luck turning this forum back to productivity!

PS
i continued to write on the "survival guide to (arch)linux" and as soon as some chapters are usable, i will put it online.
because i don't want any discussion around this thread to start, i will lock it - do NOT unlock or delete it, please! thank you!

I'm going to just put my 2 cents here..fork it to a new thread if need be.
Essentially, I agree with dp, and observed the same over a much longer course of time. Since December,  I have been bogged down with various work, and was not able to read these forums as often as I usually do, and also not able to do the usual things I do relating to Arch. When I returned to the scene in earnest a few weeks ago, I found something entirly different from what I had left behind. What I found was pretty much what dp describes, and for a while, it really disappointed me, and it still does for that matter.
What I am finding is that there are many threads still here that have been answered in a wiki or docs or google, so in part, it is the poster's fault for not looking in all the obvious places first. Also in part, it is the responder's fault for responding in ways that are not appropriate for maintaining the friendly, efficient, environment we have here. Yet another factor contributing to the problem is, yes, the moderators. I feel that hastily locking flame threads is perhaps not the right option, instead let the fire run out of fuel thouroughly, PM the parties involved letting them know that they are out of bounds, and when the fire dies down, quietly delete the thread so it doesn't leave pollution in our forums. Of course, this needs to be limited to reasonable cases, obviously 8 or 9 pages worth of flame is overkill in any situation and should be brought under control, but I think the smaller fires should be allowed to extinguish themselves as I described.
We need to find a *new* (I don't like any existing solutions that I've seen) and innovative way to balance these various factors and deal with the new (and old) members of our community.
One suggestion that I saw and, with some thought, agree with, would be making it so that there is one portion of the forums where everyone with <X posts may post, they cannot post anywhere else. X would ideally be a medium sized number, I'm thinking 50-75. Or maybe even tier it like 0-20 in one section 20-50, then 50-150 and 150+ would have access to all. I think this approach has a number of advantages as far as controlling the evolution of the forum community in that it provides a slower transition from newcomer to "old-timer" and so as new people come, they get to slowly adjust into the existing arch culture rather than getting thrown right into it, and disturbing the appearantly delicate balance that exists within it. Basically, the idea works a bit like lane lines in a pool do against ripples on the water. Tossing a stone into one lane will disturb the water such that the lane line may bob, and so the other lane is slightly effected, but the largest ripples won't reach any other lanes but the one you tossed the rock into. And the further lanes will get even less, maybe no effects.
Just my thoughts on isolating or containing the turbulent waters that have recently been seen on these forums.

  • A New Worlds Record

    Hello,
I've hit a new world record – Eight Windows Security Shields blinking on my taskbar asking to update Flash.
This is my fourth thread concerning this problem. You can view the other threads here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4714633#4714633
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4583350#4583350
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4563117#4563117
Basically, I had to revert to Flash version 10.3 because version 11 breaks Dragon Naturally Speaking – this is a well-documented problem. I've turned off all the "do not ask for upgrade" options in Flash, but that makes no difference. Several times I have used the Adobe utility to do a clean uninstall. I'm constantly being bothered to upgrade Flash. Sometimes Windows "User Account Control" opens, interrupting whatever I'm doing, and forcing me to respond before I can continue.
The solution to this problem should be absolutely trivial, but I'm afraid the solution will be to just get rid of Flash. There must be some mechanism that Flash uses or other applications use to request Flash to check for updates. Delete this mechanism – problem solved. Problem is, I don't know what that mechanism is.
I have been asking about this problem for months, since June or July. It should not be this complicated.
    Barry.

    Hi,
Copy the URL from the contact create link and pass the values like Account Name etc by adding it to the URL, use & to separate the values.

  • This is a new world

    And am I the first?
What I concern most is  compatibility. I keep myself updating dev settings in order to fetch the new features recenetly including flex sdk, air sdk and ide now.
I never use sdk released by apache community due compatible worrying.
It will be great if anybody gives some key points to upgrade to FB4.7
I'd like to contribute something but stuck by ANE these days

  • Pros vs. Joes  Welcome to the New World Order

    Hello All,
I have been using Final Cut Express for several years and have really enjoyed that program.  I always wanted to step up to FCP, but as I'm not a professional editor I couldn't really spend that kind of money on something that is just a hobby.
Every now and again I would go into the FCP forums to ask a question and I always felt like I was an outsider.  It felt like I had walked into an "old boys club" with lots of expensive wood and 100 dollar cigars.
When I first heard of FCPX and the incredible price of 299.00 almost the first thought that came to my mind was, "there were going to be tons of noobs logging onto the FCP forum asking a lot of "dumb" questions.  I wondered how all those "pros" were going to like having their "club house" invaded by lots of people who were not pros.  I think part of what is going on here is a back lash.
Having said that, for all you pros out there I feel your pain.  If you are making a living off of Final Cut software then this cannot be a very good experience. Certainly not a magical experience.  For me, FCPX has a lot of really fantastic features that make it much, much easier than what I am use to in FCE.  But even for me it is missing some important features (I can only imagine what this feels like for someone who feeds their kids off the money they make with the old program).
I don't work for Apple, I don't get paid by Apple, I'm just a customer who has bought Apple products for over 20 years.  In all of this "storm over FCPX" I don't think you can forget that Apple is a great company.  Perhaps one of the greatest U.S. corporations in history.  However, even the great ones make mistakes. The program isn't a mistake (it's incredible).  It's how the roll out was handled.  I would not have named the program Final Cut Pro X (because it is not).  I think this one factor has lead to most of the problem.  If you had called this program anything else it couldn't help but have hit a major home run.
Last, you can't turn your back on a professional community that has stood by you through thick and thin, even if it wasn't your intention to do so.  Steve Jobs is a great communicator, perhaps one of the best.
Right now Apple's silence is saying all the wrong things.
    Mike

I agree, apple is a great company, but what Apple is doing any time recently  isn't really acceptable anymore.
    - delivering something like Final Cut X as "PRO" is .. there is no word for it! shaming? Mike, you say, they just named it wrong, why should they? Apple delivered a iMovie pro as Final Cut Pro, and it was intended so. They wouldn't have deleted FCStudio and FCExpress if it was so...
    - Killing XServe and everything that has to do with Sever ("Final Cut Pro X Sever" haha) just because the "users don't give em Feedback" is ridiculous...
    - Just focusing on "Noobware" like iOS and making everything so easy that even my dead grandmother could use it but forgetting people like me, who know how to use a more difficult system and who WANT this and  that setting or feature.
    - and finally: I liked Apple, I loved it and always was proud of what and how easy i could do something compared to friends with PCs, but there is nothing to be "proud" of anymore. Apple isn't updating there programs. Aperture, Final cut Studio, Logic, all Apps that cost a few hundred € but Apple is only focused on developing "completely new Bull$**t" (FCPX) instead of focussing on improving the already so awesome apps.
This may seem a bit overreacted, indeed it is supposed to be so, to show where everything will go if apple isn't changing the direction their heading to…
    Greetings
    Ronny

From the Microsoft Office 365 advertising:
Do more with your docs: Pop in an online video, open a PDF and edit the content, align pictures and diagrams with minimal fuss. The new Read Mode is clean and distraction-free—and it works great on tablets. Teaming-up is better too, with direct connections to your online spaces and streamlined review features like Simple Markup and comments.
I cannot wait for my copy.

Glad I am still using Office 2011. I don't create Forms in Word or exceL and I use the Print menu > PDF > Save as Adobe PDF  (Adobe's Print Driver)  OR either Drop directly on Acrobat.  And allow Acrobat to create the PDF then I add the for fields in Acrobat.
I do it I get around a 15 year old problem Of URL and MailTo links not working.  Still have issue with if use Word to make a Word or Phrase in Word a Link By use of Insert menu > URL it still hasn't been fixed after 15 years.

  • New World Map for Apex services: Consultants, Developers, Hosting Services

As Matt suggested in this recent thread: " ApEx / HTML DB - are there actually any developers in the Marketplace (UK) " ApEx / HTML DB - are there actually any developers in the Marketplace (UK)
we might need an overview of available consultants, developers, hosting providers, available products and additional services.
Thus I have started a new group on Frappr: http://www.frappr.com/oracleapplicationexpressservices
Since each "service provider" (can also be a person) may fit into several of the described categories, I have chosen to provide only one category (marker).
We can use the shoutouts to make clear which service will be provided.
Please put yourself on the map!
    Cheers,

Maybe new users of APEX would like to join the map of APEX users?

  • Whole New World!

    Hi there
I'm new the Macs but I'm enjoying the learning curve.
When I was a Wiindows user I could connect my Nokia 6610i Navigator (USB or bluetooth) to Nokia PC Suite. I could then:
type and save SMSs using a full sized keyboard
update Outlook 2003 calendar with they phone (I prefer one way Sync - Outlook to phone only)
    Add contacts to my phone
Transfer music and create playlists on the 'big screen'
Of course, Nokia PC suite doesn't work on a Mac, so can anyone suggest how to do this in the Macworld?
    Cheers

Try the "Missing Sync for Symbian" at www.markspace.com. I haven't used it but the one for my Palm worked very well.

  • MSI 8600GTS' in SLI-New World Records in 3DMarks 03-05-06

Well, finally buckled down and did it.  Tonight I finished my personal quest.  Have set world records in 3DMark with the 8600's in all 3DMark benchmarks.  I'd like to thank MSI, OCZ, Swiftech, Ultra, the Academy...... And I'd especially like to thank all the tweakers for all the info they have shared in this forum!  Had to beat out a QX9650..that was tough, but the good old 8600's clocked to 955mhz core did the trick.
    Screenshot of 06 score below:

Did you use any aftermarket cooling for the video cards?  I was looking at the Thermalright HR-03 GTs but they cost like 60 bucks a piece.  I might as well like save the movey and get like two 9800GX2's.
I used no extra cooling on the MSI 8600GTS'..I did remove the heatsink/cooler and substituted OCZ freeZe heatsink compound on them.  The factory cooling is very good, the cards ran 59-61c throughout the benchmarks with a 955mhz core!  Good job MSI.
Oh and congrats on beating out the Core 2 Extreme   You know you got the world record probably because most people who dish out $1200 for a Core 2 Extreme won't have two 8600GTS's in their computer.  I mean why would they?  They probably have two 9800GX2's.  :D  But I'll bet it still feels cool to set a world record though.
You are exactly right...I didnt feel like using Liquid Nitrogen on the CPU and 2 9800GXT's to try and beat a benchtop system.  I use my PC every day and it looks like "AnyPC" except for the Swiftech radiator attached to the rear of the case.  The next goal I'm going to set is to beat the "Team Palit" scores in 3DMark06 and set the world record for 9600GT's in 03/05 and 06.  Just waiting for the opportunity ($$) to purchase a couple of MSI 9600GT 512M OC cards.  If anybody from MSI corporate reads in here and would like to send me a couple for "testing", I'd really appreciate it..lol.
@Gamin..thanks, I did it for the MSI community

  • Lost in a new world

They tell me this task should be easy..CS4, 27" iMac
Trying to create an image with a border..image is a jpg file and "border" is PNG file from recent event.
Not sure how to open two images at once....I do the commnand click thing and only one image appears although I did select both...
    Help..please..
    Nick

    Then unlock them already.
The Layers Panel has several options for locking a Layer (see attachment).
But I suspect that You might benefit from going through the Help, possibly »How to Work with Layers and Selections« could help, because quite frankly I am not sure I understand what Your problem is.
You could also try opening one image and then using File – Place to import the other image into it.

  • Oh lordy......another new world

OK...I can't believe I've had this computer for several months and had never ventured into 'Homepage'.
I've spent the past week or so sitting in front of this computer trying to learn about imovie and iweb, its a lot to take in, so before I get totally discabobulated spending days trying to learn about all you can do in 'hompage'....can someone quickly explain the difference (pros/cons) between linking a customer to a movie stored in my public folder or linking them to a password protected 'homepage' page that contains the movie?

iWeb is "software" based where Homepage is "Web" (browser) based.
You create pages in iWeb and they are kept on your computer until you "publish". Homepage created files are made using a browser and are nearly instantly available (click a button).
One trouble with Homepage is that it only looks for "Movies" stored (previously uploaded) in your iDisk Movies folder. Makes it hard to link to those stored in your Public folder.
iWeb "pages" (and all data) is stored inside your iDisk Web folder.
Homepage only stores an html file inside your iDisk Sites folder and the other page elements (Pictures, Movies or Music) are stored in other iDisk folder.
This makes moving and copying iWeb "folders" (complete) much easier than Homepage (scattered).
Files stored in your Public folder will be available to anyone that can mount it unless you place a password on it (.Mac System Preferences). They can also be accessed via Web browsers. But you can "link" to them in any "custom" made page.
You can make your own custom pages using any plain text editor and some simple copy/paste html code. Most of my pages are custom made as I don't like the restrictions placed by iWeb or Homepage.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/RedneckTexasXmas/index.html
A "custom" html page using a file stored in my iDisk Public folder. Look at the page source for clues as to how it's done.

  • Final Cut Pro - does it come with a DVD Authoring Software

    Hey guys!
I'm just planning to change my Windows to a Mac.
I was looking around for a DVD Authoring Software and everyone was suggesting DVD Studio Pro. So I looked it up to get it's price but I couldn't find it at all. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me where DVD Studio Pro is available. It would also be great if you could suggest any other DVD Authoring Software compatible with Mac OS.
    Thanks very much!

You either have not drunk the kool aid or did not get Apple's version of the future memo.
The DVD is dead according to Apple corp. And, they are doing everything possible to sweep it away. DVDSP has been discontinued.
If you want to stay with Apple apps, your options are iDVD or  Compressor 4 ( limited menus). Otherwise, start looking at the Adobe CS suite (particularly Encore).
Welcome to the brave new world.

  • How do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them?

how do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them as opposed to it scattering copies of my files into a myriad different folders based on the albums they came from when i'm not even interested in keeping whole albums?
I recently converted myself to mac after having been a windows formatted person since the beginning of time. I use last.fm and the client scrobbler only supports iTunes on the mac (scobbling since Nov 06 and i'm now heavily dependant upon it as a means of discovering new music) - if you don't know what that means then take it for granted i have no option other than to use iTunes as my media player whn using the mac. And almost immediately upon using iTunes i was filled with horror.
My tale of woe as follows: I copy all my mp3 files to folder X on my new mac. I copy my simple playlist in to that same folder X. The simple playlist simply lists all the files in folder X in the order i want to hear them in... simple right? And what happens the moment i start playing my simple list? Well you probably all ready know; itunes throws copies of all those files in to the air, scatters them to the four winds so each of them fall into a little folder of their own representing the album they might once have come from. I don't keep whole albums. For me the 'album experience' is a ruse to trick one into listening to weaker material. I only keep the concentrated goodness. I only put up with albums in a previous lifetime because in the days of vinyl i had no other choice apart from spending hours compiling mix tapes. Now i am liberated from these restrictions and have been for the 15 or so years i've been using a computer to listen to music. Until along comes iTunes forcing me backwards in time, frog marching me back into the past.
That simple list i mentioned is my one and only playlist. This single playlist has been evolving for 15 years as tracks are added and removed and their position in the list changes because that song sounds amazing when heard after that other song whereas hearing this song after that song would be like pouring custard over your sausages (for me shuffling is an abomination). And so here is how i've managed this list and managed synchronization of said list and listed files with my mp3 player (currently a Zen).
Adding a new file: After deciding that song is a keeper i will copy it into that simple folder that holds all my music and drop it in to a position on the list i deem most suited for it. Incidentally over this entire 15 year (i'm pretty sure it's been around that long) my media player has been winamp but for the reason previously mentioned i am unable to use winamp in mac world.
Removing a file: fortunately winamp has an option to simultaneously remove a file from the list and the hard drive. And naturally so because after all if i no longer like a song then i want it expunged completely from life or at least from my hard drive and playlist. In the brave new world of iTunes i have to remove from the list there then delete the file from where iTunes copied it from and then the place iTunes copied it to.
Editing the list: drag an item in the list to it's preferred location and select to save it as i would for any other file using any other application... well desktop type application as opposed to one that uses a database as its primary means of storage.
Syncing with the mp3 player: copy drag drop playlist file from the simple folder on the hard drive to the simple folder on the mp3 player as i would for any other file. And then also copy drag drop the most recently created files from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on player after having ordered them by creation date so as to make it easier to select the most recently created. After a while the mp3 player will fill up with the files no longer on the list so i will delete all files from player then re-copy all flies from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on mp3 player.
I do not make changes to the list on the mp3 player so synchronization needs only to go one way: from laptop to player.
So all very simple. Apart from editing the positions of files in the list everything is managed by copy drag dropping and deleting files using windows explorer.
But i'm in a mac and circumstances have forced me in to the corner of using iTunes. And this whole iTunes situation is terrifying for me as over the years i've heard horror stories about it deleting all of someone's music files. Perhaps this may have been by using the software incorrectly but even so, the very fact that it appears possible for this to happen simply by using the software incorrectly and the fact that it happens with some degree of frequency given the number of reports of this happening that i have heard of over the years on music discussion forums fills me with dread that i have to now use this software. And given the software's blatant disregard for the user's choice as to where to store his/her files it's no surprise that this happens. The software is pointlessly doing dangerous things with my data. Please make it stop.
Please can i just at the very least make iTunes play the music from the folder i have chosen to put my files in and not copy those files here there and everywhere without my say so? Thankyou.

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Thanks for the support.

  • Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

    Apple is great!
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).
I compose an iMessage with the destination as my email address and I attach 2 photos I want on my PC.  I send them several times from my iPhone 5C but they never arrive. I look at my ipad later and realize that it's iMessage app is getting ( and swallowing) these emails. I then turn the ipad off.  Still can't get the photos through because iphone is now getting them on it's iMessage.  I turn off the iMessage feature and try to send photos from text msging.  Phone tells me it can't send photos unless iMessage it turned on.  What happened to regular MMS text messaging?  I go and try to send photos as an email attachment and see that there is no option to attach from the stupid email program.  I look up online to learn about the brave new world of apple attachments and send them.
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?
The email program on my iphone is not configured to remove messages from the server.
If iMessage is turned off I don't have the issue.
Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

Did not work. I've selected iMessage to ON and left it. After a few hours I recieved a message "activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again". This has been going on for the past 3 days.

  • (workflow question) - What is the best way to handle audio in a large Premiere project?

    Hey all,
This might probably be suitable for any version of Premiere, but just in case, I use CS4 (Master Collection)
I am wrestling in my brain about the best way to handle audio in my project to cut down on the time I am working on it.
This project I just finished was a 10 minute video for a customer shot on miniDV (HVX-200) cut down from 3 hours of tape.
I edited my whole project down to what looked good, and then I decided I needed to clean up all the Audio using Soundbooth, So I had to go in clip by clip, using the Edit in SoundBooth --> Render and Replace method on every clip. I couldn't find a way to batch edit any audio in Soundbooth.
For every clip, I performed similar actions---
    1) both tracks of audio were recorded with 2 different microphones (2 mono tracks), so I needed only audio from 1 track - I used SB to cut and paste the good track over the other track.
    2) amplified the audio
    3) cleaned up the background noise with the noise filter
I am sure there has to be a better workflow option than what I just did (going clip by clip), Can someone give me some advice on how best to handle audio in a situation like this?
Should I have just rendered out new audio for the whole tape I was using, and then edit from that?
Should I have rendered out the audio after I edited the clips into one long track and performed the actions I needed on it? or something entirely different? It was a very slow, tedious process.
    Thanks,
    Aza

    Hi, Aza.
Given that my background is audio and I'm just coming into the brave new world of visual bits and bytes, I would second Hunt's recommendation regarding exporting the entire video's audio as one wav file, working on it, and then reimporting. I do this as one of the last stages, when I know I have the editing done, with an ear towards consistency from beginning to end.
One of the benefits of this approach is that you can manage all audio in the same context. For example, if you want to normalize, compress or limit your audio, doing it a clip at a time will make it difficult for you to match levels consistently or find a compression setting that works smoothly across the board. It's likely that there will instead be subtle or obvious differences between each clip you worked on.
When all your audio is in one file you can, for instance, look at the entire wave form, see that limiting to -6 db would trim off most of the unnecessary peaks, triim it down, and then normalize it all. You may still have to do some tweaking here and there, but it gets you much farther down the road, much more easily.Same goes for reverb, EQ or other effects where you want the same feel throughout the entire video.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • Captivate 7 course published to html5 not working

I recently created an elearning course and published to both SWF and HTML5 for SCORM 1.2. However, in doing so, I could not get it to play on my iphone, and on the Mac only some browsers worked.
I separated the two outputs in two different versions and published them to SCORMCloud with the following results:
Published to SWF - works fine across all browsers.
Published to HTML5 - does not work on any browser,  or iphone/ipad. I can't even get the "Preview HTML5 output in web browser" to work.
In all cases, we simply see a blank screen. The HTML5 tracker does not show that there are any incompatibilities. The options under externalized resources are left unchecked. I have included a screen shot of the html5 settings, just in case. They seem pretty cut and dry, but is there something somewhere--here or on another screen--that I am missing?
I am really in a bind at this point since this course was supposed to be up and running a couple days ago. Any help you can offer is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Best,
    Arthur

They're all in the same boat with you.  It's not working reliably for them either.
You need to go back to the drawing board and ask yourself (or your client) some hard questions about your target audience and your target course content.
Is is REALLY the kind of content that you want people to view on a tiny smart phone screen?  E.g. is it desktop software training?  If not, then why bother with trying to support tiny screens?
Are the people in your target audience REALLY likely to be viewing this content ONLY on their phones, or could they just as easily view it in their web browser on their computer? If so, tell them so.
The truth is that most clients have no idea about the technical limitations of this brave new world we call Mobile Learning, and many are now picking up HTML5 as the latest technological buzzword they trot out to show how "with it" they are:
"We need our content to be HTML5-compatible to accommodate the m-learning landscape and maximize shareholder expectations bulldust bulldust bulldust...ad nauseum."
While I agree that HTML5 is probably the future of e-learning, it's causing more than it's fair share of headaches in the present.
