"Bread-Crumb" Links

Once I generate my WinHelp project and open it in a browser,
the topic windows show across the top of the window what I've heard
called a "bread-crumb" navigation trail (for example, one such
trail would be
Home >
Introduction >
Overview. I would like to know how to remove these
navigation links. I've looked through all the windows and through
Help, but I'm not really sure what topic to look under.
Any help would be appreciated. It's a cosmetic thing but it
would make the final product, which will include page-specific
help, look much better.
Thanks.

Hi SGarriott and welcome to the RH forum.
Why are you opening WinHelp output in a browser. It's like
putting a Ferrari engine into a Ford Focus and expecting things to
work like clockwork?

  • How do I create bread crumbs if I don't want to put all of the topics in the TOC?

    Good Morning
I am trying to figure out how I can create bread crumbs for topics that I do not have in the Table of Contents.  The reason is that if I put all of my topics in the TOC, it will end up a mile long!
I created an alphabet bar, where each of the letters is a hyperlink to a main page with addtional topics on each main page.  For example, if the user clicks 'A' on the alphabet bar, the A List appears with a list of topics that begin with the letter A, like Active Directory.  When user clicks on the Active Directory link, the Active Directory topic appears.  However, when I look in the upper righthand corner for the bread crumb, it goes Home<Active Directory, and skips over the A LIst.  What I want it to look like is Home>Passwords A-Z>A List>Active Directory.
So, in thinking about this, I thought I could somehow manually create the bread crumbs.  But, everything I've read so far has referred to automatic creation of bread crumbs from the TOC, which as I mentioned, would end up making the TOC huge.
I've also looked for other ways to create the navigation bar (rather than using the method I've described above) in the event there is no way to manually create the breadcrumbs.  I have seen what I wanted in another help database but I am completely unable to figure out how they did it.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Karen

    Hi Karen
Unfortunately you will likely end up implementing either a totally manual system (meaning you just add a line at the top of your topic with your breadcrumb trail as you wish to display it, then link as needed) or you will have to resort to some third party solution that isn't part of RoboHelp's features.
You might also take a moment and suggest to the RoboHelp development team that we need some flexibility with this aspect. (Link is in my sig)
    Cheers... Rick

  • Bread crumb Navigation full path

    Hi..
How to show Bread Crumb full navigation path in SP 2013
    Ravindranath

    Hi,
According to your description, you might want to show the Breadcrumb in SharePoint 2013 as what it is in SharePoint 2010.
Here are two links about adding breadcrumb in SharePoint 2013 would be helpful:

  • Unable to see view in drop down list at end of bread crumb

    Hello,
I've a saved view in a List in SharePoint 2010
the View used to display in the drop down list at the end of the breadcrumb but is no longer displayed. It disapeared one day after editing the page layout of the view)
The view still exists and is accessible from a saved hyperlink.
the view contains multiple web parts and three separate lists in the same site, filter from a forth (or master list) all in the same site.
how can I get the view to re-appear in the drop down list at the end of the bread crumb?

Yes, meant to pop that in the original post, Had a look in the per-location element. Nothing there either! It's disappeared from the site, but as I say a legacy Hyperlink stored in favourites
still brings it out - I can edit the page when I get there etc...
    Apreciate you assistance BTW :-)

  • Question about bread crumb.

    Hello,
Can somebody will tell me how to get the current area from the bom and display a bread crumb for that area? Which bom has that method? Is it isacorebom?
    I need it for b2b & b2c. I am working in ISA 4.0
    Thanks,
    Harsha

    Hi Harsha,
What i unserstood by your requirement that you want to display the current area in ISA to be displayed.
You can use the showmodulename parameter. It is provided in ISA by default.
    For example: for B2B
    http://host:50000/b2b/b2b/init.do?showmodulename=true

  • Import from Word- all links linking too low down so that bread crumbs don't display

When I import from Word, all the links being created are linking to the topic title, instead of just to the topic:
    e.g. href="CreateLineOfSight.htm #CreateLineOfSight">CreateLineOfSight</a></p></td>
As a result, whenever the topic is longish, opening the topic from the link displays it with the title at the top of the screen and the breadcrumbs hidden.
If I change the link to: href="CreateLineOfSight.htm">CreateLineOfSight</a></p></td> - without the #link , it opens properly.
Does anyone know how to import from Word so that it links as I require. And/or how to replace all these links to the topic title with just a link to the (top of the) topic?
    I'm using RoboHelp 8
    Thanks.
    Ayelet

    Hi Ayelet,
are you converting the TOC generated inside word document itself and is the TOC generated at the TOP of the document ?
In such a scenario the TOC generated in Word document itself is the reason for this issue as the TOC itself point to that location!
One more thing to talk about, and that is my personal opninion is that when we move to online medium or even document for any hand held device we should keep our topics short, the reason is that even if we have bread crums those will get autoomatically hidden when we scroll down the topic if the topic is long.
    So I would suggest you
    1. Better do some style mapping to sute your online needs
    2. Paginate the topic on the basis of style (like the one that has been used to generate the TOC) so that you have smaller and manageable/viewable topics
    3. and after pagination Auto-generate the TOC inside RoboHelp after import
    4. Can also generate mini TOC for better navigation, if you map your style to Headings style of RoboHelp and create mini TOC in the topic if it is long in place of the TOC generated in word
