Break of database restoring proces
Hi,
The restore database process was broken and after that I can repeat restore and recovery of database successfully. I get the following message:
restore not done; all files readonly, offline, or already restored
Oracle database is 9.2.0.5.
Backup is done using rman. Day before I try restoring I created full database backup and backup all archivelog files with controlfile autobackup option.
I try to execute the following workflow for restoring process:
startup nomount;
set DBID
restore controlfile from autobackup;
alter database open;
restore database;
Does anybody have idea how to restore my database?
startup nomount;
set DBID
restore controlfile from autobackup;
alter database mount;
restore database;
recover database;
alter database open;
You can use SET UNTIL logseg to recover to a particular log sequence before doing recover database.
After this Add Datafile to the Temporary Tablespace because it will nto be recovered

SAP failed to start after database restore
SAP Version: SAP R/3 Enterprise
Database: MSSQL Server 2000
OS: Windows
We had performed a database restore from the backup which was taken before the system rebuilt. The SAP failed to bring up as the dispatcher stopped due to the work processes died. After the database restore, we had run the SAP Tools for MSSQL Server but still did not manage to bring up the system. Please find below the logs for the developer trace and the dev_w0.

in the instance profile that are pointing to D:\. It's now up and
running, but the dispatcher is in yellow colour. The status
is "Running, Message Server connection ok, Dialog Queue time: 0.00 sec,
J2EE status info unavailable". I did not select Java during the
installation. Only ABAP was selected.
I am able to login to the R/3 system now. I notice that there are some
parameters in the instance profile are related to the Java like
rdisp/j2ee_start, login/accept_sso2_ticket and etc. Is it possible that
database backup that I used to restore was from a ABAP + JAVA system?
Please see below for the dev_disp

9i Database - Restore to a new host, validating RMAN backup
Hi all,
I could use your help, for any of you who remember how to do this in 9i. On one of my production databases, running 9.2.0.6.0, I have a nightly RMAN script that writes the backup to a large shared drive (this is on a Windows 2003 server). This backup uses a recovery catalog.
I have a test server, and I want to try and restore last night's backup on this test server, without touching the recovery catalog - purely as a means to go through the recovery process, and to validate our backups (this is also for SOX compliance, as this database is for the financial system).
I have been looking through the 9i documentation, and was hoping to have some detailed steps here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmrecov.htm#1007514
but I don't see a lot of information there.
I believe that this should be a rather simple process. On the test server, I have installed the 9.2.0.6 software, and created the Oracle Service using the same name as production. The test server can also see the shared drive that houses the backup files from the production system.
Here are the steps I am trying, please let me know what I need to change. Thanks all!!

I have made some progress, I am able to restore the control file now - what I am doing, is copying the autobackup controlfile from the network drive over onto the server locally (E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA), then I am able to restore the controlfile with this:
restore controlfile from 'E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA';
And I can see that it restores all 3 of my controlfiles.
The next step would be to do the database restore. When I issue the "restore database;" command, I can see that it lists out all of the datafiles that it needs to restore from the backup set, but then after about a minute, I see these error messages pop up:
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

When I looked up those last 2 error codes on Metalink, I see document ID 213858.1 that looks like this normally happens when the backup piece that has Read-Only permissions. I have confirmed that the backup files on the network drive are not Read-Only, I have full Read/Write privileges on them. So once again, I am stumped.
Any thoughts? I might go ahead and log an SR for this, to try and get it resolved.
Thanks! -

PREEMPTIVE_OS_GETPROCADDRESS SQL database restoration hangs
Hi,
We are using SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 in our production environment and Litespeed tool for SQL database backup.
Today we are facing an issue in database restoration. while the database restore is 100% done, it hungs and the database in the restoring status itself. We checked the wait-type and found out "PREEMPTIVE_OS_GETPROCADDRESS" for Query type xp_restore_database.
It was working fine till yesterday and today suddenly we got this error. We restarted the restore job and again we are facing the same issue.
Can you please help on this.Hello,
Try the workaround posted on the following resource:
http://commweb-ps3.us.dell.com/techcenter/data-protection/f/4786/p/19555044/20552862.aspx
This error has been documented on other third-party backup tools. Please read the following post and the comments:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/psssql/archive/2010/07/21/why-does-preemptive-os-getprocaddress-show-a-large-accumulation.aspx
Hope this helps.

hi team,
we are doing one database restorations, but database restorations fail after 40% complete of restorations .[backup file size is 160 gb ]
RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM DISK ='PATH' [back upset 1 is valid]
below are the error message:
Msg 3204, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The backup or restore was aborted.
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.Looks critical. If you look in the SQL Server error, you will find a stackdump. Not that it is likely to make that wiser.
There are three possible causes for this error:
1) A bad memory board on the machine you are running the restore on.
2) A plain bug in SQL Server.
3) The backup is damaged.
I would find a different server (which is not on the same VM host) to run the restore on. If the same problem occurs, we can rule out the first. If possible I would try an instance of a later version of SQL Server.
I would then try to back up the database to a different destination. I would also run DBCC CHECKDB on the database.
The key here is that you should work on finding the root cause for this error, because it does not happen out of the blue. When it comes to the possibility of a bug in SQL Server, I like to add that the likelihood that SQL Server would crash on a good back
is small. It's much more likely that it crashes on a corrupt backup.

SAP failed to start after database restored to a new machine
Hi,
We have a SAp BW 3.5 running on a SQL 2000, recently our server is degraded and become unstable to host our BW server.
So we build another box with the same OS and DB version and patches, ran sapinst from the SAP DVD, upgraded the kernel to the same level as our current setup.
SAP started Ok with the kernel upgraded, however when we restored the backup to it, if fails.
I have attached the developer trace log, and hope someone can give us some help on diagnosing the issues

S.You are at the wrong site.
Ora-600's are untrapped errors in Oracle. As such there as 1000s of ora-600s.
They can only be dealt with by Metalink.
As you have 10.2.0.3 you have support.
Metalink has an ora-600 lookup tool available.
Please visit Metalink yourself and lookup the error and/or submit a SR.
Please do NOT ask about ora-600 here.

Database Restore & Recovery from tape
Hi Fellows
I'm about to attempt a recovery from backup tape to a test server, as a 'tape recovery' test. The files I've marked for recovery include (directories including all sub-tree);
Datafiles directory
$ORACLE_HOME/sid/ directory where the sid is the database sid
Control Files
adump, Bdump, cdump and udump directories
Archivelogs directory
Flashrecovery area directory
Redo logs directory
initfile and spfile
With these files recovered (from one point in time), and the dbconsole shut down prior to restore (for the sid) should the database be able to startup afterwards? Is there any other actions I should make? Thanks, DavidThanks for your responses Alok and Santosh
I'm pretty sure the files I have selected should be able to recover the database. The recovery, I think is rightly said, can only be done within Oracle. I'll look into a test of RMAN (I know it should be better) recovery once I've tested this as a 'straight from tape' recovery.
Thanks again, David
Alok and Santosh
I thought I'd put this in as 'aftermath' of the attempted recovery;
I had the server team restore the files stated (basically everything - redo, archivelogs, datafile, controlfiles, init and sp files, even the dump files) - and repalced them into directories made the same as the other server. When I started it, I was able to go into a 'Oracle Suggested' full database recovery, which was successful. I then checked the expdp dump files, 1 taken at the same time of backup as rman - and one directly after the restore), and compared rows - exactly the same. So appears to have worked.
Many thanks, David

Oracle 10.2.0.3 Databases - Restore to New Server
We will soon be replacing an old server with a new server and I need to restore all Oracle 10.2.0.3 databases to the new server
and ensure Oracle functionality/connectivity with all databases.
I am in the process of testing and need advice and hopefully a 'Step by Step' process I can follow.
I am a systems admin - not an Oracle db admin - so please explain details of any commands I may have to run.
I have already tested once:
ran command prompt: sqplus / as sysdba
SQL>shutdown immediate;
Stopped all Oracle services:
Oracle Database
Oracle Listener
Oracle DBConsole
Installed Oracle 10.2.0.3 on new server
Ensured that the SID and all other Oracle services information matched the old server during installation on the new server.
Stopped all Oracle services on the new server (used the steps above).
Backed-up and test restored to new server.
Enterprise Manager shows: Listener Up Database Instance Down Agent Down
Any help would be appreciatedIt would be good to know your operation system. I hope both new and old match or similar.
You can use RMAN to dumplicate you DB so you can follow [Creating a Duplicate Database on a New Host. Doc ID: 388431.1|https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=388431.1]
but a simple file system copy based manual duplication is also possible if new and old OS system is similar... -
DBConsole says 'Agent Unreachable' after database restore & recovery
Hi,
Last week our server crashed and I had to completely re-install oracle and then restore/recover our database. Now everything is back up, but when I try to access the online DBConsole (http://localhost:5500/em), the status says 'Agent Unreachable'.
I checked the status of the agent and it said Agent is Running and Ready.
I was told that if the agent was not restored, it may be out of sync -- but I don't know how to sync it.
Does anybody know how I can resolve this problem?
Thanks in advance,
NoraAs per note_id:430805.1
3. We now need to focus also on the monitored database side. This section takes place in the monitored RDBMS Oracle Home:
If the monitored database is 10gR1 (10.1.x):
10.1.0.4: you need to apply Patch 5868695 on the RDBMS Oracle Home, otherwise the Healthcheck metric will still fail, despite the code fix applied on the Agent side.
10.1.0.5: At this moment, this specific one-off patch is not available on top of RDBMS 10.1.0.5. Please contact support if you need this fix for RDBMS 10.1.0.5 on HP-UX.
10.1.0.3, 10.1.0.2: consider patching / upgrading
If the monitored database is 10gR2 (10.2.x):
10.2.0.3 (and above): nothing to be done. The fix is already included.
10.2.0.2: Apply the Patch 4559294 in the RDBMS Oracle Home by following instructions given in the README.
My concern is what if we have 8i and 9i monitored databases?Please let me know. -
Database Restore in SQL Server
Hello,
I have a Server in SQL Server 2012 which have two Databases called DB1 and DB2 . I have taken full backup of DB1 and want to restore in DB2 without Modifying its name,logical name and physical name. how can i do it ?
Prem ShahThen apparently you are not using the Restore command correctly. We cannot read your mind nor see your desktop, so telling us that something doesn't work without specifying exactly what you are doing is not much help. And while I'm at it, the
term "server" is not particularly meaningful since it might refer to your physical machine or it might refer to an instance of sql server (and there can be multiple instances running on a physical machine). The best way to get answers and useful responses
is to post the query you are using. And the best way to learn sql server is to write your tsql commands rather than use the SSMS GUI.
And I'll point out that your original "requirements" are impossible to meet - 2 (or more) databases cannot share the same physical file names.
