Breaking a 1080i project into sections

Hi all, it's been a while.  Since I switched to Vista 64 bit, the vast majority of my PE7 issues have receded into the background.  However, I came across a couple items I need advice on.  I'm putting together a wedding video from 1920 X 1080i material from my Canon HF100 camera.  The plan is to output the finished project as both a conventional DVD and a Blu-ray disk.
1.  For PC resource conservation reasons, I have created a slide show and a video sequence as two separate projects and will then combine them into one DVD / Blu-ray output.  However, I'll be danged if I can find an export / share setting that preserves the original quality and resolution of my 1920 X 1080 input footage.  Exporting to DV AVI for example does not allow setting the output to 1920 X 1080 and any of the "share" options seem to be much more compressed.  The only option I could find that was even close was "uncompressed" and a test export of a short clip showed that the actual export of the two projects would probably fill my 1TB drive and then some.  Sorry..... I know this has been covered before but I can't find it.
2.  If you apply a DVD menu template to the project, how the heck do you remove it if you change your mind?  I had to use UNDO.
3.  A simple one that eludes me.... how do I set keyframes so I can dynamically change the audio level within a given clip?  I thought it was a right click on the timeline or the cursor but that doesn't work.  I resorted to adding a fade in/out and moving the resulting fade points but there has to be an easier way.
FWIW, this project intentionally stressed my copy of PE7 and my C2Duo 3GHz PC with 4GB RAM.  For example, the slide show consists of about 500 photos at ORIGINAL (ie., NOT re-sized) resolution (a mix of 8MP and 10MP).  I had absolutely zero problems creating the project, editing it to add some titles and rendering it to a 1920 X 1080 MPEG.  During render, the RAM usage was solid at about 1.8GB.  The video project consists of about 35 minutes of full HD video.  RAM usage never went above 1.85GB and it rendered successfully several times (as I searched for the right output type).  Surprised the heck outa me.
Oh, and I see the forum is still as slow as ever.  Another reason I was unable to find the answers using SEARCH..... each page refresh took FOREVER   Seems to be a PC speed issue.... this machine is a P4 2.6GHz.  My main (ie., home) machine is a C2Duo and the page refresh time is much better.

Thanks, that is how I analyzed it too.  For a while I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I burned it with the NTSC widescreen preset so I burned another copy using the NTSC 4:3 preset, which played OK.  But then the same DVD player played the original NTSC widescreen version this morning.  I'm not sure what the difference is between the 4:3 preset and the widescreen preset and the help system wasn't..... helpful.  The settings I can see appear to be identical between the two presets.
But after that little hurdle I started realizing that the video just didn't look as good as I think it can.  The video looked soft and there were very noticeable compression artifacts and occasional scan line issues.  I got to wondering whether my project settings were correct.... it was the only thing I could think of since the render process reported a bitrate in the 6Mb/S range which should be sufficient for SD video.  Interestingly, the photos in the slide show looked terrific.
I had used the HDV 1920 X 1080i project setting and my video assets were AVCHD from my Canon HF100.  So I did a short test project with the AVCHD full HD 1920 X 1080i setting and the output looked quite a bit better.  No more compression artifacts but it still looked soft.  I re-made the actual project and am rendering it now.  We'll see how good it looks when burned to a DVD.  If it still looks soft, I'm not sure what else to do.

  • Breaking up a project into smaller units for YouTube

    Hi,
I used FCPX and Compressor to export a 55 minute FCPX movie for YouTube. The resulting 720p file, while looking fantastic, was 4.37 gigabytes and failed to upload to YouTube. Rather than compressing to a smaller, lower resolution movie, I think I'd rather break the movie up into four separate movies and upload those smaller files to YouTube. What I am asking is this: What's the easiest way to break up my project into separate movies, using either FCPX or Compressor?
    Thanks!

You can set IN and OUT points in the timeline to export just a section of the movie.
But since you already exported, there is an easier way. Open the exported movie in MPEG Streamclip, set an IN and an OUT point, and do Save As...; repeat with other IN and OUT. This is quick, since it does not recompress the movie.

  • Breaking up one project into multiple projects

I have a question that I hope can be answered (Using Captivate 5.5).
I have a seemingly large project now (433 slides with no quizzes added at this point) that is broken down as follows:
There are 9 chapters.  The first is a quick "how to" which has a menu that links to the 8 chapters.  All the chapters are accessed by the "jump to page" link with buttons i created at the top, a home button that links back to the main menu buttons, and each chapter contains 4 sub-chapters.
When this whole deal started, I was told it would just be a run through start to finish in one day with a quiz at the end, but now I am told they like the individual chapters so much that they want chapters with their own quiz and summary and they want it to be able to be "bookmarked" so that they can work at it in half hour sections over the course of a few days.
The down side is I'm pretty much done the whole thing as one project file.  I have looked into how to break it up, or how to just have various quizzes (more importantly quiz summary for each chapter that stops the user from proceeding to the next chapter until complete) within one project but its clear that I need to break it up and have 9 .exe files (.exe being the requested format) in the end all linked to one another.  The problem I have is that I have no idea how to go about this.
Anyone with any ideas for me?  Please?
    Thank you once again!

    Thanks Anjaneai,
This was pretty much much idea as well and I think it makes the most sense.
There is really only one page in each module that links back to the main page so it shouldn't take too long to implement.
The only question I have is with something like this where I will essentially have a breakdown of one "main" exe that links to the 8 other chapters, how do I go about saving these?  Is there something that I need to do (ie file structure or a certain click box during the export)?  Do I just export/publish each of them as their own exe and Captivate is smart enough to recognize this?
Right now what my vision is of this is that I would publish all 9 exe's into one directory where the main exe is in the root and the other exe's are in their own directories so that when the file is sent, unzipped, it will only show the one exe to click on so it isn't confusing to the end users.

  • Breaking a large project into pieces

Long time user, first time poster.
We have created a long movie (310 slides) and current any
operation is quite sluggish which I learned recently is expected (I
saw in the Export forum that avg expected size is between 60-70
    slides? Woops)
I was curious if there is a good way to break this movie into
pieces and keep the cohesion? The way the movie is laid out now is
it starts off with a Title slide showing the 5 things we are going
to talk about, then talks about them in that order with very clear
start/end slides to each of the 5 sections... so I think it would
lend itself well to being broken into portions.
Also on the bottom of *every* slide are Jump-To links
(buttons) to the other sections so if you are getting bored, you
    can skip ahead or backward.
So what I'm asking is there a way to break a movie into say 5
pieces (5 separate files) while still keeping them linked together
sufficiently well that you can sit and watch the entire thing play
through from start to finish and jump around between the files, or
is that only going to happen with a single giant movie?
    Thank you for the help.
    Best,
    Riyad

    Hi Riyad,
We are breaking our training videos up as well, but not
because of size. We are trying to make tiny videos so that they are
very easily updateable if our product changes (which it does). What
    I did was this:
    1. I created a template for Captivate (you can dowload some
sweet ones on the Exchange Adobe site). Where I created a menu
structure on the left hand side.
    2. Next, I created a new captivate video for each small chunk
I wanted to display (ten in all). I kept these brief (under 5
minutes in lenght and by subject). Hopefully, your video can easily
be parsed by topic. For example, Introduction to Widgets, Why
Widgets, How to Buy Widgets, etc. I published these in the normal
    way (SWF files for me).
    3. Next, I created a new captivate video using the template I
created in step 1. This is the main project that will call all the
other projects. IMPORTANT - you must change the options for all
elements on your page to run the entire length of the slide and you
must also change your slide length to the maximum (I believe it's
    600 or 3600 seconds).
    4. In the left hand menu structure, I created transparent
text boxes with my menu titles (Introduction to Widgets, What are
Widgets, Buying Widgets, etc.) and then I created a click box over
each of these. The click box action jumps to the appropriate slide
that corresponds to the video I want to display.
    5. On the first slide I have a Welcome page that's just text
explaining how to use the menu structure on the left, the intended
audience, the length of the entire class, etc.
    6. On the 2nd slide, I copy the menu structure from the first
slide text and click boxes and paste them here. I also insert an
Animation and choose my SWF file. Resize so it will fit in the
    screen appropriately.
    7. I do the same thing for the remaining slides.
    8. Next, I publish the file and voila! I have a master
    project that calls mini projects.

  • Can I break a JSX project into several files?

I'm developing a large javascript project for InDesign and would like to be able to break it up into separate files and have my main program include them at runtime.

    Hello Bob.
I've posted an inquiry about a different topic on the InDesign Scripting & SDK forums, but have not gotten a reply.
I thought I'd ping you to see if you nkow anything.
When I installed Creative Suite 4, InDesign 6.0 installed a COM typelib for Visual Basic.
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\InDesign\Version 6.0\en_US\Scripting Support\6.0\Resources for Visual Basic.tlb
I am able to reference this from VB.NET Visual Studio 2010 and program against the InDesign scritping API like a charm - with full IntelliSense.
With Creative Suite 5 InDesign 7.0 I am unable to establish this reference from Visual Studio.
Visual Studio can't find the reference.
    Any ideas?

  • All page breaks are converted into section breaks

    Hi,
In my template in ms word 2007 I have page breaks and section breaks. When I generate the output what I see is that all the page breaks are automatically converted into section breaks. Is this a bug ? Or is there a way to solve it.?
    Thanks

    Hi elic elico,
Are your page breaks created by inserting multiple returns? If so, then the script will certainly remove them. You can "fix" this by deleting the relevant line from the text file. In general, however, it's better to control page breaks by other means.
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • Breaking SSHR SIT into sections

Hi, I have a special information type which I have deployed to Self Service (SSHR). The thing is, I want to divide some of the fields into sections with headers even though I am using just one S.I.T to save the data.
For example say I have an SIT that contains name, age, job, position, location. I might want to group name and age into Personal Details with a header, then job, position and location into another section called Assignment Details. Something like that.
Is it possible to create sections with headers using personalization when the self service page is based on an S.I.T

ah cool thanks, that works. ive changed the code slightly so it takes an expression entered by a user, but the program seems to stop if a divide symbol (/) is entered, any ideas?

  • How to break a long project in 3 smaller timelines and assembling them back

    Hi,
I'm presently working on a big project (a 90 min long documentary). I took advantage of tips from other user to speed up FCPX but now I'm at a point where I fell in need of a radical switch to give breath to my mac (btw I just switched to a new iMac with 16gb of Ram)
I've been wondering about an advice which was gave me from Russ H on this forum: I'm presently at minute 60, he suggested me to create another timeline for the last 30 min.
I think I have to go further ahed, I need to break the exisiting timeline in two, so to have two 30min long TL. And then I have to create a third TL with the last 30 min.
Here we go with my questions: 1) to have new timelines I need to create/duplicate projects? Or I can just associate more timelines to the same one?
    2) If not I think I have to duplicate my project three time and then cutting the 30'min segment which I don't need to be in that project...and then of course I have to start building my third edit in the third 30min TL
    3) Here is the point which make me worried the most...At the end of my work how can I put everything back togheter? Is there any "merge TL" function? I should just export 3 masterfile and then assemble them? I should just put the 3 file on XDCAM disc as clip to be playied in a row?
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Nico

As I recall, the suggestion to create separate projects was one of several to address increasingly sluggish performance as your project grew in length. The idea was that by opening and working on shorter timelines, you would place less of a processing burden on your machine.
Now that you have a newer, more powerful  iMac, it may not be necessary to break up that project.
If you still think it is desirable to break up the project, I would stay within the existing library and create a new project for the last part of the doc.  If you are still working on the first 60 minutes section and you want to work in smaller projects, create two more empty projects. Then select two sections of the original and paste them to the new projects' timelines. When you have finished all three sections, create a fourth project and paste copies of the three into it.
There is no merge timeline command, but copy paste is pretty bullet proof. Click in the timeline window to make it active. Hit Command-A to select all; Command -C to copy, Open the empty project and hit Command-V to copy. Just make sure that your playhead is at the last frame of the sequence before you paste any more sections into the "omnibus" timeline and it should go quite smoothly.

  • I Movie 09 can I combine projects into one project?

Can I combine 3 seperate IMovie projects into one so I can burn a short film to DVD?
I had three different people shoot 3 different sections of a short for me, now I want to put them in one project together in order and burn a DVD.

you can copy (copy all) the clips from one project and paste them into another clip, but music and titles will not come with that. If you export one project as a .mov file and then reimport it into iMovie as suggested, that will easily work, but you wont be able to edit that movie's music or titles.

  • Import package from one project into another

    Hello everyone,
    I have some projects.
An enterprise and war project created in netbeans.
I would like to use some files from one project to another. when I import
the package I get the error-
    'package x does not exist'
I have added the package to the project but I still get the error.
I have also added the project to import to my glasspath but still.
    E.g.
    set classpath
    .;c:\enterpriseA;
My next idea is to create a war project into my enterprise project and copy the files
from the war project into it in order to use it. But I'm sure there is a better way.
    THanking you in advance.

One mistake I keep making is that I don't add the package to the
Dependencies of the plugin I'm writing. You have to go to plugin.xml,
and add the package you depend on to the Dependencies section. Maybe you
    didn't do this?

  • Is it possible to import a project into an existing project - PRE 8

Hi. The last time I did much with Video editing was a couple of years back using the full version of Premiere 6.5
Back then you could create a number of projects as pices of the complete solution. Then when you where ready to create the full movie you would import the various projects into the time line.
Is this possible in Premiere Elements V8 ? I have looked around but can't find anything.
If not, how do you deal with very long projects ? Move sections onto a track of their own ?
    Thanks

    deimosphobos
The ways that SG and Hunt just described are the conventional ways and get the job done. There is much merit to it being a method of choice.
However, there is a way to copy and paste a Timeline from one Premiere Elements project.prel to another, using the software called Clipmate.
You may want to check it out.
There have been some issues reported for Clipmate's use for this purpose, namely, problems in the copying of the transitions and audio in the process. But I have use this successfully and described that experience.

If you do try it, I would be interested in your results.

  • Incorporate existing iMovie project into new, longer one

I have an 8-minute iMovie project, with lost of careful editing (multiple sounds tracks, transitions, etc.)
I need to incorporate it as one section in a longer iMovie project I'm now working on. But when it becomes the one section of a larger project, I have to shorten it in half, to be only 4 minutes.
    Two questions:
    1) How do you insert an existing iMovie project into a new one -- bring over all the pieces at once, with everything in tact (music, transitions, etc.)?
    2) This is a little more complicated. Since I have to boil down the 8 minute piece to 4 minutes, I'd rather not have to go back into the original and do painstaking editing -- which would involve rejiggering transitions, music fades, and all kinds of things. I'd rather export it to Quicktime, bring that into the new, larger iMovie project, where I can crop out parts I don't want and tie togehter the remaining pieces with transitions.
My concern: when I export original 8 minute project to Quicktime, doesn't that compress it? If so, and I bring that already-compressed Quicktime into new, longer iMovie project, when the new one is finished and I export it out to a DVD (end product) -- won't that be re-compressing the already compressed portion?
    Thanks for any insights.

  • Way to break up published file into several SWFs?

I really really want to use Captivate to develop training for
my organization but one aspect of it is in our way - the size of
the published SWF file. We're going a lot of system simulation and
Captivate would be a great fit - but our LMS IT dept. has a fit
when they see the files we need to post are 6MB+. Is there a way to
have Captivate break each slide up into it's own SWF? Like Breeze
does to Powerpoint slides. We're looking to publish this training
to bank branches and bandwidth is tight. You don't want a bunch of
steaming SWFs disrupting ATM and other branch traffic.
If not, this is a much need feature to add in version
    3.

    Hi nudoru,
I use a similar approach to get around the all-or-nothing
background audio looping. For each project I have three
    sub-projects.
    1. The first is the intro project - a corporate
marketing/branding-provided AVI converted into SWF with overlaid
title Text Animation at the end.
    2. That branches into the main "body" project which contains
the looped background audio and main presentation content.
    3. When the body reaches the end it branches into the closing
project consisting of a video (another AVI converted into SWF) and
    copyright notice slide.
At the end of the closing project I can then branch back to a
main menu/project, a website, or just stop. None of my individual
presentations are longer than three to four minutes though, and I
try to limit the quantity of full-motion capture that comes from
excessive window moving and resizing. As a result, the bulk of the
body project swf file size comes from the audio track, ~1MB/minute.
    Hope this helps!
    Andrew.

How do I break up a string into a bunch of String arrays after the line ends.
    For example,
    JTextArea area = new JTextArea();
this is a string that i have entered in the area declared above
now here is another sting that is in the same string/text area
this is all being placed in one text field
    Sting input = area.getText();
now how do I break that up into an array of strings after each line ends?

Ok I tested it out and it works.
So for future refrence to those that come by the same problem I had:
To split up a string when using a textfield or textarea so that you can store seperate sections of the string based on sperate lines, using the following code:
    String text = area.getText() ;
    String[] lines = text.split("\n") ;
    This will store the following

  • How do i import an iMovie 08 project into Imovie 11?

How do i import an iMovie 08 project into Imovie 11?

I don't still have iMovie 08, but this method works in iMovie 11.
Go to...Home, movies, iMovie projects, find the project you want and right click and click "show package contents".
That will show a movie file and some other files. Drag the file to the desktop and rename it .mp4.
then go to iMovie, import, navigate to the mp4 file on your desktop and it will let you import to the events section and then you can add it to your movie.
Takes a lot longer to describe than to do. The quality seems to be preserved though I don't know if titles etc get transferred over, kind of doubt it.
