Breaking in bugs or Faults?

Hi,
first post on the forums so want to say hi to all
i have had a N96 for about a week now (well since Monday and have had a few problems, most of them have disappeared like slowness and lag but i have been faced with a few persistent problems that are really putting me of the cool phone.
first of the big problems is the music side of things, i cant use the NMM at all, hate the multiple connection settings thing, after i put music on the phone in the music folder not the sounds folder it seems to have to update every time i want to listen to music, if i select no refresh or cancel it refuses to show and music so i have to refresh, in fact i am doing it now and it has been refreshing for 1 hour 12 mins and has found 114 songs !!
another problem i have found is images, i have a folder from my last phone (XDA orbit 2) and it contains around 800 plus images that i must have, when i put the folder (that contains around 34 sub folders) on the phone i have to reset for it to even respond, when it loads up it lags badly, and i mean really bad, if i try and open anything, like media player it times out loading and returns to the front screen, if i try to browse images (god forbid) it does the same or even crashes, i thaught it may be a form of loading the images like refreshing the library for music but yesterday i left the phone for 4 hours and came back to it and it still wouldt mve so i had to go into file manager and delete the folder in order to even make a call!
and the last big problem (god am ranting ) is with Bluetooth streaming, i bought a new £60 headset for the music and if i dare connect to it to listen to music the phone goes ballistic i cant even make calls with it because it will just crash and 2 times out of 10 it will allow me to listen to music through it.
i no this looks like a bashing session on the n96 but it is not because i love this brick.....i mean work of art to death and am hoping these problems fade out so do you guys have any idea how to stop these problems from arising ? or do you think i'm just going to have to wait for a firmware update ?
thanks
Adam

Lord Alias,
I too have simiar problem with the pictures. I put about 900 pics on my E:Mass Drive route and the phone is so damn slow cycling the pictures! I was forced to delete the pics.
On the music side, I use my iPod touch for it because I am afraid the battery would just die out like in a few minutes eh. I put about 14 tracks in the folder which has preloaded mp3's on it. I deleted those mp3's that came with the phon and put my 14 tracks on it. The N96 is fast with music for me but then again I only have 14 songs so that is the reason why I assume.
Any luck in finding how to make your unit run faster with all those songs and photos??
I think i may have found a work around but im not sure at this point, i was told by nokia staff that for large files, such as my pictures and music that i should use the "Mass Storage" connection as it is 5 times faster and ensures nothing get corrupted, this time i used the media transfer mode, it did take about 20 mins but it is running exceptionally well now i have given it time to mellow out, it is still laggy but i can now use all media players, surf the web and browse the pictures i put on with no problems ! ill give it some more time and try the rest of the features !
i did actually think that i had hit a digital stump with this phone but i think it is actually a case of letting the phone catch up after you remove the cable?

  • N95 Maps - bug or fault on me???

    I just got my N95 couple of days ago and I must say I just love it:-). I haven´t noticed any bugs or faults on the phone so far. It´s been working very nicely. But when I go to MAPS it sais: "Network usage disabled. You can enable it from application settings."
    I have tried to change settings but I haven´t really found the right settings - I guess. I have been to applications but there isn´t anything to change that would fix my problem. Anyhow, I can start the Map- application although this sentence will pop up every time I will go there.
    If someone could help me with this I would be really greatful.

    Hi,
    If you open maps, get past that message and goto options>settings>network change the option in Network to "when needed"
    Beware though of data transfer though, as depending on what you do or if you have a map already in your phone if will attempt to download maps, voices etc
    Data transfer through the network in most cases means £££, unless you choose wlan...
    Hope this helpsMessage Edited by luckieb on 22-Apr-200703:16 PM

  • Ruby-enterprise 1.8.7-12: timeout.rb:60: [BUG] Segmentation fault

    Something in timeout.rb is making gem segfault.  There's discussion around the Internet about glibc 2.14 giving ruby a hard time, so perhaps this is relavant to the issue, being that we're on 2.15 now?
    $ sudo gem update --system
    /opt/ruby-enterprise/lib/ruby/1.8/timeout.rb:60: [BUG] Segmentation fault

    83 y.join # make sure y is dead.
    84 end

    86 end

    Yeah! Solved!
    Install gcc45 from the AUR, compile and install it, then download the ruby-enterprise from the AUR and compile it like so:
    CC=gcc-4.5 makepkg
    Install the compiled Ruby EE package, and wham, it works.

  • BIOS bug - booting fault ?

    I recently discovered my Corsair TWINX 3200XL (2x512MB) is capable of DDR520 @ 2.5-3-3-8 1T, 2.75 or 2.8v and wanted to test 10x260 for a while, but I have a problem with PC not booting.
    Memtest86, Prime95 blend 6hrs, SuperPI few tests, all OK right after OC'ing in Win XP, I'm 99,9% sure rig is rock stable, but the problem is that OC is short-lived...I have to clear CMOS coz PC won't reboot.
    Also, noticed in BIOS that CPU Frequency is miscalculated, maybe this has something to do with the booting problem ? CPU FSB higher than 255, and the freq shows 0MHz or above...
    10 x 255 = 2550MHz
    10 x 256 = 0 MHz
    10 x 260 = 40 MHz
    BIOS CPU FREQ FORMULA = Multi x (FSB MOD 256)
    (not double-checked these values, just what I think I remember from OC'ing)
    Seen ppl with many different modded BIOSes, any of these could solve my problems ?
    PSU is not very good, at (1.4 + 8,33%) 1.5166v it fluctuates 1.50-1.54 - or - if I set vcore fixed, it won't raise much at all..think 1.42v (at fixed 1.52v setting)..but when adding % to vcore from BIOS I get correct values.
    /// EDIT, installed OCCT and posting results
    No C'n'Q enabled, AMD64 driver not showing in "Remove Applications"....but I see vcore is "adjusted" to stress..

    Assuming your sig is correct, then why not try Sideeffects 1.C final bios - even got improved vcore stability ( don´t know how that is done with a biosupdate) :

    or Syar´s EasyBios with good default values :

    업무에 참고하시기 바랍니다.

    David,
    You are right, theer are some changes incorporated in the latest MLR # 16 on the configurations files and on the dehydration store metrics(such as performance, fields,..).
    However, I would not suggest to continue working on olite, even for Development/Test purposes as you might get stuck with strange errors...and the only solution would be to re-install SOA Suite if your olite gets corrupted. There might be ways to gets your olite back to position, but trust me..its not so simple.
    Also, when you develop and stress test all your testcase scenarios in an TEST Adv installation, its simple to mimic the same in actual production box, as you exactly know its behavior.
    So, go for a brand new SOA 10.1.3.4 MLR # 5 (or) 10.1.3.3.1 MLR # 16 SOA Suite Advanced installation with Oracle DB 10.2.0.3 as its dehydration store.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers

  • How to make a page break in numbers

    The only way I found to make a new page in Numbers was to make new rows down to where the page would break, but it's only letting me add a few new rows to the new page.  I'd like to know how to make a page break without just adding rows.

    Hi Yellowbox,
    Still I'm not convinced, it gives you indeed some advantages but this page break is a great fault.
    All the company is working on Apple, we try even to keep Microsoft away but what when you make a quote of several pages and have to make your lay out at the end, it is a pain in your xxx to make it well.
    We cannot make different tables for each page nor I want to make it in Pages with a Numbers table.
    Secondly, what do you do when you get a Excell offer that you want to bring to Numbers.
    It opens well but again, you need to make all the page lay out afterwards!
    Thanks for yoru reply.
    It won't change my mind about Apple and Microsoft but for timing earning I won't changes all Excel offers to Numbers anymore. Even if I do not want, it would take me less time to work it out in Excel.
    Our own offers will remain in Numbers ...
    It is a pity but time is so important nowadays!
    Nice week-end.

  • Yet Another Blank Display Issue!

    Hello there. I appear to be having a variant of the screen failure problem. However, I am almost certain it's not the GPU failing. Here's my symptoms:
    In all other respects, the MBP is completely functional. However, when I shut down and restart it, or close the screen, the display is blank when it powers back up. I think the problem is with the hibernation cycle:
    1. The power light remains on when the lid is closed, and the MBP continues to run
    2. When the battery is allowed to drain, the power light blinks on and off as though the computer were asleep
    3. When it's actually working, the only thing abnormal is the power light, which turns off when the display is on, and on when the display is off (default screensaver thing)
    I'm pretty much certain it isn't the NVIDIA problem, because I tried all the fixes up to and including connecting up to another apple and manually deleting the mkext cache and sleepimage file, which eventually worked. However, this proved to be only a temporary solution: as soon as I tried to reset it or let it hibernate, the screen went away and hasn't come back since without this difficult-to-achieve fix (I live near Dundee, and my nearest Apple-owning friend lives in Aylesbury).
    One interesting thing I noted (which has convinced me that the problem is caused by a hibernation fault) is that almost immediately upon its deletion, both the mkext cache and the sleepimage file would be recreated, and I was eventually forced into a ridiculous race with the machine to shut it down and restart it normally before it could break itself again.
    I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this variation of the problem, or if anyone is aware of the particular bug or fault responsible, and of a more permanent solution, short of never turning it off again.
    Thanks.

    (I live near Dundee, and my nearest Apple-owning friend lives in Aylesbury).

  • General 10.6.5 Status Question

    For the first time in perhaps 10 years, I held off installing an OS release with 10.6.4. The issues with 10.6.5 discussed in this forum caused me to delay installing it too.
    Can anyone give a current summary status of 10.6.5? Should I stay with 10.6.3 or upgrade?
    I know this is not a black-and-white question. I'm looking for some general comments. I have a pretty vanilla installation and use Time Machine.

    In my opinion, the issues discussed for the last two updates aren't materially different from the ones mentioned for any earlier updates. OS updates alway "break" some software & reveal faults in the design of a few hardware peripherals. Every update is at least slightly more demanding of the Mac's own hardware than the last (especially true of RAM) so an update sometimes will reveal a failing or out-of-spec part in the Mac itself. Users often do not know that they have some "special" software installed -- a lot of it is included in what appears to be normal or well-regarded software & that is infrequently documented in release notes or promotional literature.
    Of course, Apple does sometimes introduce an obscure bug in an update, & it must be considered serious if affects your Mac's usability, but that happens much less often than it seems from the reports claiming that here & elsewhere on the web. Many users jump to the conclusion that the update is the cause of their problems without considering anything other than that those problems became evident after applying it. (This is a logical flaw so common it has a nickname, +post hoc+, short for +post hoc; ergo propter hoc+, Latin for "after this; therefore because of this.")
    So part of it is that some users never check for any other cause. Another is that they diligently search for post-update reports of problems sounding like their own, which is relatively easy to do, but not for reports of no problems anything like their own, which is harder to do. (It can be done, for instance by wading through thousands of Discussions posts from users running the update asking about some minor issue or just for info about how to do something. Presumably, if they had serious issues, they would mention them.)
    This tends to feed on itself -- when one reads about a similar sounding post-update problem, it is only natural to post a "me, too" comment as well. Once enough of these posts appear, it is tempting to believe it is a widespread problem (& thus must be caused by the update) without considering that all those posts might represent only a very tiny fraction of update users or that there are many common causes that have nothing to do with the update itself that might be responsible for all the posts.

  • Help :S

    i bought a 5800 xpressmusic about 8 days ago, and on the 6th day when i tried to switch the phone on, the nokia screen came then a black screen appeared and the phone repeated this until it went black screen again and wont be turned on unless i took out the battery and put it back in and after i did that the nokia screen came and nothing happened, the nokia screen stayed on for like 10 mins after that i took out battery again and put it back in and the phone switched on. i was very scared so i put the phone on charge for few hours and see whats going to happen. after about 5 hours i took phone off charge and the whole thing just repeated itself also the equaliser seemed not to work i picked different presets and it didnt seem to change the sound. im going to bring phone back to retailer tomorrow or the other day, im just thinking shall i get the 5800 again or just ask for a refund because i have been hearing reports of all kinds of bugs and faulties on the 5800. the main problem is that im probably going abroad for like 5 months soon and i dont want my phone to break down during those times since i wont be able to repair it. is 5800 still worth to get again?

    But.. I went to Apple store, and they said me that I have to go to the Operator Cite(vodafone), there, They'll fix it but not.. :S! When I went there, they said me "without warranty, we can't help you, sorry", I'd like to know how repair my iPhone, if I have to send it to Madrid or in my island (Tenerife) can help me ...

  • Problem with vinyl recording

    I specifically purchased the Soundblaster x-fi HD for vinyl recording to my computer. The problem is as the signal runs through the unit into my computer, i am unable to designate the different special effects available with this unit. I can record the record just fine but I was counting on being able to record vinyl and adding in the effects into the actual recorded file, but no matter what I do, i cannot get this to happen. Is it possible to do this with this particular unit, or if not, can you direct me to something that will? My email address is [email protected] Any info anybody can give me on this is deeply appreciated.

    Jord, when I called it a "phenomenon" I did not mean to describe it as a bug or fault - you're right, it is a desireable feature of cycle recording.
    As far as your question goes: Suppose you are recording track-by-track a song with two parts, an acoustic guitar and vocals, and the acoustic guitar part has an intricate eight-bar solo that needs to be redone. The advantage of using cycle recording and autodrop here is that you could define a cycle region giving you a two-bar intro (say) to the part you need to rerecord and a couple of bars of outro, making it easier to accomplish a musical phrasing. For example, say you're a vocalist trying to record a one-octave scale, and your pitch is off on the "fa-so." With cycle recording and autodrop, you could sing along with the "do-re-mi" and settle your pitch before rerecording the notes you flubbed, whereas (as I understand it) if you're just rerecording the "fa-so" in cycle mode, you won't get the "do-re-mi" as an intro after the first pass and would then just hope that you're nailing the notes you need to rerecord cold.
    You can combine cycle recording with autodrop in Midi - why not in audio? It's a desireable feature in both.

  • Unable to finally close blanket purchase agreement

    Hello,
    I am unable to final close the blanket agreement due to error: "Open releases exist against the purchase document." I checked and all the releases status are closed, the amount billed matched amount received. Does anyone know how to fix this? I researched on METALINK and it doesn't help much.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I understand, the current system functionality does not support the feature that you are looking for:
    The following ER's have been filed for this issue:

  • Copy/Move Files preserving all metadata

    Hi,
    Silly question, but how do I copy or move files on an OES11 sp1 NSS volume (source and destination are on the same server) in such a way that all the metadata and data structure is preserved? In particular I want to preserve ownership, trustee's, timestamps, and namespaces. Thus I cannot use for example a Windows client since it does not understand the Mac namespace among other things. If the data were on NetWare NSS volumes (as both source and destination) then I would use SCMT. But of course SCMT does not work with OES11. I tried using the Miggui tool, but it does not work either - it does not support the source and destination being on the same server.
    My use case is that I want to move a user's homedirectory to a new volume (on either the same or a different server) and then create a junction from the original location to the new thus eliminating the two hassles of updating the user object homedirectory attribute in eDir and/or revising the shortcut/alias on their desktop (typically an OSX client).
    Thanks,
    Ron

    All accounts I am testing with are LUMified and 'id' on the server is copacetic too, so that is not it. I thought that maybe it was some "bad info" in one of the miggui xml project files so I blew them all away (/var/opt/novell/migration/). Tried with the bad account - and it still failed. So I looked at the log file and found this bug reported there:
    2013-09-27 12:28:37,718 ERROR - FILESYSTEM:volmount.rb:Command to mount source: ruby /opt/novell/migration/sbin/volmount.rb -s 0.1.2.3 -a "cn=badaccount,ou=x,o=y" -c Not Applicable -f "/var/opt/novell/migration/NewProj0/fs/mnt/source" -m -t OES20

    Clearly the attempt to mount the volumes as sources is causing a segmentation fault - says so right there! But it has no problem with the exact same volumes as targets. Likely this is because the target is the local server and nothing special needs to be done to mount the target file systems since they are arleady mounted. But the source could be anything so it is going to try to identify and mount the source filesystems via that volmount.rb script.
    I decided to try the offending command from the command-line to see if I could get better feedback on the error and to quickly/easily try different parameters. Right away I could see that the miggui was either not passing the password on the command-line or it was but was hiding it in the log file. Also it passes an incorrect type with the '-t OES20' parameter. It should be '-t OES2'. However looking at the volmount.rb script it turns out that it only tests for 'NW' / not 'NW'. Thus if you pass it '-t popo' it will still work just fine!
    The long story made short is that I have no idea what is causing this bug. At one point I thought that it was an error in handling certain characters in the password, such as &. But that turned out to be a red herring. After a lot of password testing, eDir object rights futzing and filesystem trustee assignment poking I've come up with... "it is working now - no idea what was wrong earlier". Sigh I hate these kind of problems.
    Cheers,
    Ron

    I believe my it guys have php on their server. When I look on the internet
    to try and use the form to test it, I get the error:
    The website cannot display the page
    HTTP 500
    Most likely causes:
    The website is under maintenance.
    The website has a programming error.
    What you can try:
    Refresh the page.
    Go back to the previous page.
    Here's one php code I have linked to one of my documents:

    * QVCS Version: $Revision: 1.4 $
    * Read This First
    * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *  This script is very well documented and quite large!  It looks daunting,
    *  but really isn't.
    *  If you have experience with PHP or other scripting languages,
    *  here's what you *need* to read:
    *      - Configuration (TARGET_EMAIL & DEF_ALERT)
    *      - Creating Forms
    *  That's it!  (Alternatively, just read the Quick Start and/or
    *  Quicker Start section below).
    *  Full configuration documentation is here:
    *      http://www.tectite.com/fmdoc/index.php
    * Purpose:
    * ~~~~~~~~
    *  To accept information from an HTML form via HTTP and mail it to recipients.
    * What does this PHP script do?
    * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *  On your web site, you may have one or more HTML forms that accept
    *  information from people visiting your website.  Your aim is for your
    *  website to email that information to you and/or add it to a database.
    *  FormMail performs those functions.
    * Quick Start
    * ~~~~~~~~~~~
    *  1. Edit this file and set TARGET_EMAIL for your requirements (near
    *      line 235 in this file - replace "yourhost\.com" with your mail server's
    *      name).  We also strongly recommend you set DEF_ALERT (the next
    *      configuration below TARGET_EMAIL).
    *  2. Install this file as formmail.php (or other name ending in .php)
    *     on your web server.
    *  3. Create an HTML form and:
    *      - specify a hidden field called "recipients" with the email address
    *        of the person to receive the form's results.
    *      - in the your form tag set the action attribute to
    *        the formmail.php you uploaded to your web server
    *  Once you have FormMail working, you may be interested in some advanced
    *  usage and features.  We have HOW-TO guides at www.tectite.com which
    *  describe many of the advanced processing you can do with FormMail.
    *      http://www.tectite.com/fmhowto/guides.php
    * Quicker Start
    * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *  Use the FormMail Configuration Wizard here:
    *      http://www.tectite.com/wizards/fmconf.php
    *  By answering a few questions you'll get a configured FormMail and
    *  a sample HTML form ready to upload and use on your server.
    * Features
    * ~~~~~~~~
    *  For a list of features go to: http://www.tectite.com/formmailpage.php
    * Security
    * ~~~~~~~~
    *  Security is the primary concern in accepting data from your website
    *  visitors.
    *  Tectite FormMail has several security features designed into it.  Note,
    *  however, it requires configuration for your particular web site.
    * Configuration
    * ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *  To configure this script, go to the section titled "CONFIGURATION"
    *  (after reading the legal stuff below).
    *  There is only one mandatory setting: TARGET_EMAIL
    *  and one strongly recommended setting: DEF_ALERT
    *  Full configuration information is available here:
    *      http://www.tectite.com/fmdoc/index.php

  • WebLogic Server installation Crashing with a fatal error - SIGSEGV

    Hello WLS Gurus,
    I am in the process of installing Discoverer 11 and I am facing problems with launching wls1036_generic.jar installer.
    I have installed installed Java 7 as follows:
    cd /u02/appldisc/11.1.1/Middleware

    JAVA_HOME=/u02/appldisc/11.1.1/Middleware/jdk1.7.0_25
    I then excuted:
    $JAVA_HOME/bin/java -Xmx1024m -jar wls1036_generic.jar
    and the installer crashed with this error output:

    See
    “Generic WebLogic Server Installer generates a Crash immediately after opening GUI on ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 Library (Doc ID 1570688.1)” which states that
    “ This is an issue with AVX support appearing on newer hardware. Default glibc is incompatible with it. This problem happens due to a Red Hat Bug: Segmentation fault in dynamic loader on AVX enabled CPU “
    Solution:
    1. Set the following Environment Property on your active Shell.
      - open a bash terminal and type in:
    $ export LD_BIND_NOW=1
    2. Re-Run the installer as bellow example.
      $JAVA_HOME/bin ./java -jar wls1036_generic.jar
