Breaking up a big project

Hi
I read in a posting some time back that a neat way of 'breaking up' a big project would be to export sections as avi movie clips and then re-assemble the movie clips to burn a DVD. Would there be a degredation of the quality or loss of video resolution in going about a project in this way? Thanks, John Mathias

There might be a slight (negligable) degradation in clips which have had content changed (eg subtitle added, brightness or contrast changed, etc.), but if you start with DV AVI and export to DV AVI with the recompress flag unchecked (checked by default), then unaltered frames should pass through exactly the same.

    Dear Gurus,
I am in a project of implantation SAP ECC in a company of the mining segment.
In this company has Big Projects of CAPEX, today is used the Software Primavera.
The premise is to try to substitute "Primavera" with the component PS, the projects can have around 50.000 item between WBS´s, Activities...
We will have problems in the operation of the ECC and performance...
    Somebody already lived this problem?

    Hi,
In this regard, it advised you refer SAP Notes no.206264 on limit in size of projects.
As per SAP, it is recommended that you may try to break your huge project into small projects, if possible, keeping prescribed limits of max. of 10,000 WBS Elements and 10,000 Activities (incl. Act.elements).
With huge project sizes, performance may be affected not only in PS area but also may lead to the performance issues for other areas which have direct link with the Project elements.

  • How can I deploy only one package out of a big project?

Does any one know how can I only deploy one package out of a big project?
We have a project which includes about 12 differenct packages. Is there a way in Jdeveloper for me to create a deploy profile to only deploy one package to a *.jar file?
Do I have to re-create a new project ( that's what I am doing currently) simply for deployment purpose?
By the way, click and pick class from more than 100 classes is too much of work. In addition, you don't really know exactly which class you are picking if two classes (in different packages) have the same name.
    Thanks a lot.

Rename your LCA file extention into .ZIP
Open the ZIP file in any of the compressing utility (e.g. WinZip, WinRar etc.)
Extract the desired process and deploy it manually to your server.

  • Several small projects under one big project

    Dear Gurus,
Can several small projects be created under a big project?
Similar like what we do WBS under the WBS or activities for that matter?

  • Handling a big project - advice needed

    Hi
I am using Premiere Pro CS4 to edit 1920*1080 AVCHD footage (3 hours in total) shot with a Canon HF10 camera. In that matter I have a three questions:
    1) Since I don't have a Blu-Ray burner in my PC yet, I am chopping my movie up into several parts each with a length of approximately 30 minutes, so I can burn some DVD's with the movie. My question is then: How do I do this the easiest way? Do I make 6 different projects and edit the movie as if it was 6 independent movies, or is there any better way of doing this?
    2) And how do I merge these 6 parts in one, which I will need when I get a Blu-Ray burner?
    3) Would you think it is a bad idea to make such a huge project? I have tried several other programs to edit AVCHD with no luck - the programs always crashed at some point, so I am a bit nervous if a 3 hour project would be too huge to be handled properly even though Premiere Pro CS4 looks to be working good. So far I have been able to transcode 30 minutes footage to a DVD with success using Encore (haven't tried more yet). Then I burnt the ISO to a DVD with some freeware program and it looked amazing when I played it with my BD player.
In case you want info on my hardware I give it to you here:
    Intel Core2Quad Q9450 2.6Ghz, 4 GB Memory, 1000GB Samsung F1 HD, GF8800GTS 512MB, Windows Vista Ultimate 32Bit
Please tell me if I am unclear about something or need to give you more information.
    Thanks in advance :)

That AVCHD footage must be ***** to edit.
My P2 dvcprohd files are a gig a minute yet I get realtime playback with video's on 2 channels fullscreen uncompressed using a computer with just slightly higher - but almost the same - specs as yours. Using just a single SATA 640gb WD and my files are 4 times the size of your AVCHD files.
Hell now I can even playback the footage in After Effects realtime fullframe with now FX (something that comes in handy because I can use AE as my NLE if there isn't to much sound involved)
With big projects you need to split it down to 10-17 minutes parts. Once they get longer than that Premiere becomes sluggish. It's no problem putting all the 'projects' in to a feature length timeline just don't expect to do much editing when it's put together because it'll be real sluggish.
Render to an uncompressed still sequence because you can always restart where the render stopped if it crashes (and it's more likely to the bigger the project).
I'm finishing a feature that way and it's worked great all on CS4 (not that I'm happy with Adobe about Premiere CS4 at all). But I had around 20 hours of rough footage and with duplicates it's 4 terabytes or so.

  • I am working on big project and in accidentally flatten the file and i saved it as PSD in then I exited Photoshop. the next time when i open the file it is merged on one page. please help!

I am working on big project and in accidentally flatten the file and i saved it as PSD in then I exited Photoshop. the next time when i open the file it is merged on one page. please help!

Flattening and merging are very similar. The main difference is merging keeps the transparent areas, whereas flattening removes all transparent areas by giving it a white background. A good example of flattening is a jpg image.
Since you have closed the file by closing photoshop, that means that the history is now gone, no way of undoing.
So that leaves you with two choices.
You can either recreate the whole document.
Or you can make selections of areas you are keeping and moving them one at a time to new layers. Keep each object on a separate layer. Then redo the area behind those objects.

  • IMovie only show background music after connecting to my external iMovie Mediathek, no video!!! desperat, i potentially lost a big project...

I work with an external iMovie-Mediathek so my big project don't mess up my macbook. I was working on a big project (45 min.) after the program crashed. Now, when I try to connect again to the external Mediathek, it will only show the background music I used, no video material at all... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But in the "events"-section, it looks normal with the preview just like always during the last couple of days... It even shows the size of the file with 146GB (which is correct), but still only the music is displayed (about 7 tracks).
I need urgent help. Same thing happened to the security-backup I make regularly...

Here's a picture of the iM window. 3 Projects available but only 2 desplayed? HOW I GET MY 3rd PROJECT BACK????

  • Getting a very big project into one DVD

    Hi,
I got a really big project which according to encore needs 8.5 GB.
I want to put it on a 4.5 GB DVD.
I tried transcoding it different and do "fit" but nothing helps.
I don't really mind the quality, I just want it to get into one DVD.
    What do I do?
    Thanks.

    >2nd is they use multi-pass encoders that cost WAY more than what you have invested in your entire computer hardware and software... there was a recent message somewhere (I'm not going to look) that mentioned a NINE pass encoder
Cinemacraft CCE-SP. Their basic version is cheap, at $79. The next one is around $2,000 and has up to 99-pass encoding available as well as a feature that will allow you to set timecodes and encode the sections between each timecode reference with different settings too. It uses what they call "Adaptive Quantize Matrix" encoding, which creates a reference file, and begins to encode and after the third pass, it will continually refine the process on a sub-pixel level until it gets the finest possible quality. It's awesome, and takes a LOT of learning.
    See http://www.cinemacraft.com/eng/sp2.html
This version is small potatoes indeed to what they call their "serious" encoder, which is unpriced unless you contact them directly.
    http://www.omni-cinemacraft.com/products_cinemacraftxtream.shtml
If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
Sonic Solutions also do an HD/SD encoder called CineVision, which is a wallet-busting $50,000 a go.
MPEG encoding is an art - even more so than cutting & editing film in the first place, and the big players employ encodists who just do this - all day, every day. You are never going to get the same quality from a sub-$500 2-pass encoder.

  • Rendering big projects

In FCP,is it possible render big project using more then one mac? (share render)
    thx

    Rendering the Timeline - no.
Transcoding to other formats (often mistakenly called rendering) using Compressor and Qmaster -yes.
Read the "Distributed Processing Setup" manual that accompanies Qmaster. Depending on which version of FCS you have, you might have a printed version. In any case there is an identical pdf in the application's Help menu bar item.

  • Can I break up a video project into smaller projects using prel 10?

I've created a large video project in prel 10 ( the 0s is win7). I want to break it up into smaller new video projects so I don't lose all my existing assembly and editing work. Can I do this and if so how? Thanks

Keep the original project and  do a "save as" with a different name for each individual project and just delete what you don't want from each smaller project.

  • Too Big Project Size?

How big is too big for projects? What are your average project sizes?
Having very sticky and sluggish movement in current project and noticed it was over 40MB. Didn't seem so huge at first but then I noticed most other projects I have are under and around 10. Is the project just too big? Nothing extraordinary or strange about the project. The sluggishness is primarily when scrubbing through primary cut/sequence. Only a 2 min sequence. If Premiere can't handle two minute sequence how are they cutting features with it?
Anyone else have this problem or notice anything like this with larger projects?

I was referring the preview file format.  Currently, we're editing with ProRes LT Quicktimes and setting the preview file format to reflect that (attached).  However, the MPEG I-Frame seems to be the default in Premiere.  Is that more stable?
However, is there a better format/codec for Premiere?  We always cut in ProRes on FCP 7, but I'm not opposed to something different (we run on Mac).
Also, I removed all warp stabilizers from my project and it significantly decreased project size.  Unfortunately, the project is still sluggish.  Feeling there is some type of corruption.
    Thanks Mark!

  • Organising a big project with sub-projects

So ,I'm laying out my project now, very large. Easily over 1000 topics, about 1000 images, some embedded, some not, variables all over the place etc., and this is for our generic help file.
I'm thinking of how to proceed with the other versions of this that will come in the future, i.e client specific help files with some sections removed that aren't relevent, images changed etc.
    Just wondering what people think.
    a) create a new project for each client iteration of the help file and share topics, variables etc using the resource manager? (this is what it is used for correct?)
    b) leave everything in one large project, remove topic in each TOC before publishing and maintain everything in one place.
Both are good ideas, maybe. if I have different projects, then I manage things individually and keep prject sizes low and organised. If I keep each topic in one place I don't have issues with importanting resources, keeping them all shared properly and potentially losing things and everything is centralized, though things could become very big and maybe RH will start to slow down......
I also worry about the Resource manager and where its storing things that I import into it, and if they are lost/corrupted then other links etc might die also....
    cheers.
    Nick

"ah ok then, so to achieve output where I want some topics in and some not  I need to use the conditional tags, and basically I have to apply conditional tags to every topic..."
    Not exactly.
To control "some topics in and some not," different TOCs and different layouts can each be used, in addition to conditional tags.
And no, you do not "have to apply conditional tags to every topic." As Peter said, topics with no conditional build tag will be included in every output. You might find variables to be more useful if you're looking at branding or versioning issues (the rest of the topic is identical for every output, and would not need conditionalizing).
Your best bet is to investigate what the output demands are currently, and what they might morph into in the near term and long term, such as whether context-sensitive help will be needed, whether print versions will be supplied, etc. You might find that the largest percentage of topics will appear in every output, with each of them containing a smattering of variables, snippets, and conditionalized segments of content (different screenshots, tables, etc.). You might even structure a merged help project so that certain outputs would eliminate entire project folders.
Bottom line: one solution is usually never the way to go...be good to yourself, and use all the features that RH offers. But again, do your homework now, to save yourself untold grief later on.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Need some advice on this big project

    Hello there!
Let me introduce myself. My name is Wisse and I have been working with Adobe products since I was a child at the age of 8 (10 years ago). Well, then it was called Macromedia Flash but you understand what I mean.
I have always been using flash for making animations and small simple applications (for presentations and games) in my spare time. I also use photoshop and dreamweaver for making sites and other things. So I will soon order the new CS5 web design collection.
I have a big (biggest so far) project coming up and before I really started I thought it'd be best to orient on what Flash application(s) to use and how I will make this project. So here is the plan:
I am making a dutch driving exam site where people can take practice exams for a small text message fee. The application will have to look slick and work smoothly. I made this to clarify what the application has to do.
I have never worked with Flash Builder and Catalyst but I kind of like the idea of making nice looking interfaces using Catalyst and then export them to Flash Builder. But as I just said, I have never worked with Flash builder and so I don't know whether  I will be able to make this on Flash Builder (due to it's complexity). Flash builder also has some nice options for accessing external data (the XML, HTTP API and PHP in this case). Catalyst's data list designer and transition animator will save a lot of time and effort when compared to doing it manually in Flash Pro. The big issue here is that I have no idea how to script the rest in Flash builder. the 5 day course might help, but I want to make to be sure that Builder is the best way to go before doing so.
But on the other hand, I am quite familiar with flash and that could also save time. Flash is a bit harder to use when I want to make a good UI and Flash builder wins when you look at the server communication and the debugging tools.
So I would like some advice from some fellow Adobe users. What would you do? What would be the best way for me to go, according to you?
    Thanks in advance,
    Wisse Jelgersma.

    Just to elaborate,
The shape and look of the outside of a car is defined by A) its colour and B) the reflections of the light sources on its surface.
It's relatively easy to change the colour of the shell of the turtle, but making it look reflective is much harder (I didn't do a very good job myself), especially if you also want to keep the textures of the shell somewhat intact.
To light the shell you need to consider what the light sources are that are hitting the shell when it is outside. Reflections of the sky and clouds should be brighter, reflections of the ground should be darker.
In my attempt, I overlaid a landscape picture, warped to roughly follow the shape of the car, then played around with blend modes and opacity and colouration to achieve the above effect. (Although the "specular" highlights could stand to be brought up a bit more). In practice, making this look realistic is probably beyond my skill set.
Then I added the lightning bolt and wheels for fun.
    Mike
