Bricked after 1.1.2, or Coincidence?

1.1.2 killed miy iPhone - but not right away.
(Of course - it could be wicked coincidence, which is what I'm leaning toward...)
The iPhone worked this morning, after the 1.1.2, and (luckily) I synced after the update.
I went to make a call roughly 5 hours after the update, and the screen FREAKED OUT. It was flickering and bouncing like a bad TV signal.
SO now, iTunes won't see it, it says the SIM is invalid, and there's a lovely error screen on the iPhone that says: "Repair Needed iPhone cannot make or receive calls. www.apple.com/support"
I get different errors in iTunes, and the touch screen won't work to even make an "emergency call."
Anyone else see anything similar??
(I'm pretty savvy with this stuff, and have tried everything under the sun to rectify the problem. I've got an appointment at the Apple Store tonight, and will let all know how it goes.)

**Saturday night before I installed the new update mine had all the same types of messages as you are getting. I had noticed that mine was hot also, & when I pluged it in to charge it didn't seem to be charging... Late that night it went completely off and I couldn't get it to turn on in any way. I had tried the soft reset and turning it off and on. no avail.... Anyway, Monday the Apple store replaced it - he though that it was a bad battery... Good luck**

  • IPad 3 bricked after IOS update, will not restore through iTunes

    Hi,
I have an iPad 3 wifi/3g model that bricked after an IOS update 7.0.6. The update failed at about 70% (Apple Logo with progress line on screen) and rebooted into recovery mode. I've tried doing a restore through iTunes mulitple times and even looked at jailbreaking it but no luck. It always fails during the update and I have tried muliple computers (Windows and Mac) Different networks (Home/Work) but the issue is still there.
The device won't go into DFU mode and in itunes it shows the serial number as n/a like the iPad has no software on it at all. I've tried everything I can thing of and I've had plenty of experiences recoverying and restoring IOS devices in the past. Tinyumberlla and other utils won't get it out of recovery mode and now iTunes won't even try to load the firmware back on the device, it just fails after extracting software.
I'm thinking its now a hardware issue, does anyone have another solution to try?

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

  • IPhone 4 bricked after 7.0.6 update, anyone else have this issue?

During the update to 7.0.6 the iPhone 4 failed to apply the update and booted up in restore mode.  When restoring the iPhone fails during the hardware firmware write and displays an "unknown error" Error 12.  It happens on multiple computers and versions OSX, including the latest version of Mavericks.  Apple support walked through after everything I tried failed and proceded to tell me that the the phone is broken and must be sent in for repair at a cost of $149.  So, unwilling to take responsibility for an update breaking a phone that was working perfectly before 7.0.6 update, that is how Apple's newest security patch bricked one of my phones.  Beware with the install!
I was wondering if this was common with others or not?  Have you had a similar issue, let me know?

Sometimes a hardware issue becomes apparent after a software update, and sometimes its pure coincidence. Most peoples updates will have gone well, forums show the small minority that dont unfortumnately. My 5s and my wifes 5c both worked fine for instance, even though thats no good for you, i'm just saying its not all phones and there is always a flurry of these incidents after software updates. Contact Apple and via the help line, if you have an extended warrranty as you say your phone is 1.5 years old. If there is an issue they will ask you to send your phone in, and an exchange can be made if you live to far from your nearest Apple shop possibly. If you are out of warranty then you can do an out of warranty replacement. As to it being a software issue, have you done a DFU mode restore? Hope it works out.

  • IPod touch 4,1 bricked after upgrading to iOS 6.0 and then 6.0.1.

    Hi all
I have an iPod touch 4th generation, 8GB. The other week I installed the new iOS 6.0 software update, from 5.1.1. after installing and rebooting the iPod just when black, I have assumed that it's been bricked, but how? It just stays black, sometimes it'll reboot, but then go black again, sometimes it'll do the infinite loop of death! Then I force it into Recovery mode, clicked Restore and after iTunes extracing the IPSW, it came back with error -1 ????? So I put it into DFU mode, then iTunes showed that iOS 6.0.1 was released. iTunes downloaded it, i put it into DFU mode and then restore to the new 6.0.1, and then everything goes well, untill it does the same as before, when I upgraded to 6.0?
I know I can't downgrade back to 5.1.1, Apple had stopped signing old ipsws, but I do however have my previously saved SHSH blobs, I can patch them onto my 5.1.1 ipsw, but I don't know weather that's illegal or not. SO, basically, my iPod is unusable.
    Troubleshooting - what I've done:
-I've deleted the 6.0 and 6.0.1 and being promted to download them again in iTunes, still didn't work
-I've tried reinstalling iTunes, current version 10.7, I run weekly Apple Software updates to get the lastest
-I've tried using different USB cords, Apple 30-pin connector cords, don't know if that was necessary
    What Haven't done:
    -Never Jailbroken this iPod
-Never moderated, read, write or execute any iPod software or any of the Raw system files
My iPod was just fine before all this crap happened, I depend on it for everything, although the Capacity isin't great, and the RAM is just ****, please someone help :'(

    Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. Note the article includes :"the device may need service".:

  • E4200v2 bricked after 1 month of use.

I purchased an e4200v2 to replace my old WRT160n which I have been using for years with no issues. Last night the e4200 crashed on me when I went to reset the router I noticed the CISCO light was blinking very slowly and I had no network connection. I power cycled the router and still no connection so I hit factory reset button. Nothing happened. Did a 30/30/30 reset nothing happened. At this point I have a 34 day old plastic brick on my desk and I'm back to using my old WRT160N. Any advice on how to unbrick this router?

Hi. Try the steps below. I found this one online but I cannot remember anymore the link.
Reboot the router three (3)times to restore to its last known working firmware.
Step 1: Reboot the router by pulling the power cable.
Step 2: Power ON the router and observe the Cisco LED until the light becomes solid.
If the light is not stabilized after 60 seconds, repeat Steps 1 and 2.

  • Is my Iphone 4 bricked after updating to IOS 5

Well ive updated my iphone 4 to ios 5 and everything was ok untill a couple of days later. I restarted my phone and was getting the solid apple logo and that was it. After pressing home and on/off buttons it went off.
Now i dont get nothing at all, Not a thing. Ive tried getting it in DFU mode for restore and not getting no signs of life at all. Ive literally been trying to do this all day and hopefully someone can help me here. I cant see how a phone just goes off and shows no sign of life just like that, No water damage or anything else like that has happened.
Ive also left it on charge for a couple of hours even thou the battery was at least 50% charged.
Any help will be great, Thanks

Connect your iPhone to iTunes. If it doesn't come up in the sidebar for a good amount of time, start holding the power and home buttons. Count down from 10. Then, release the power button and coninue holding the home button for up to 30 seconds. If it doesn't come out of recovery or DFU (which can sometimes make it appear bricked), continue this process. KiltedTim's answer is also helpful and can sometimes take care of this problem.

  • ATV2 (720P) Fatal Brick After Update

I attempted to install the ATV 6.0 update yesterday, and encountered the same "brick" issues others here have reported. After the update, the only thing that worked on my ATV was the front panel LED light, as it blinked constantly.
Since I didn't have a micro USB cable handy to connect my device to my Mac, and since I really didn't look forward to fishing behind my A/V cabinet for the power cord, I made an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar, figuring they could fix things quickly and easily......if only this had happened!
My Apple Store tech connected my ATV to his MacBook Air and, after some fiddling, finally got the device to appear in iTunes. He then ran the Restore process, which seemed to go fine until the very end, when it threw an error code on his MacBook. He tried to run the Restore process again, but wasn't able to get my ATV to appear in iTunes. He'd mentioned earlier that if an ATV breaks after the warranty's up, there's a $59 charge to fix it.
Well, after trying everything he could think of, he was never able to get the device to appear in iTunes. So...he excused himself to consult with his manager, and offered to replace my ATV with a new one for $59. I accepted this offer, because I WAS getting an upgrade from 720P to 1080P....but left the store thinking I got "half-screwed" by Apple. I mean, my device was working fine prior to this update, and it was Apple's update that bricked it.
While I was allowed to keep my bricked device, I doubt seriously I'll be able to do anything with it if iTunes can't see it.

I have encounter the same issue with my ATV.  I was hoping to find that Apple was offering FREE replacements since these units were obviously working units to have downloaded their 6.0 software update messed them up. Working ATV 2nd gen are going for $150-200 on ebay because they can be jail broken.  I should have sold it while it was working.

  • New IPhone is a Brick - after new Software Update

Last night I synced my new IPhone 3G that I got this past July after lining up for 2 hours. Love it! However, it's been turned into a brick.
I synced with iTunes 7, using the correct cable with no dock, and it mentioned that there is an update for the iPhone software (2.1). So, duh, I applied it.
When it was done, the phone was dark, so I started it and got the image of the usb cable and a iTunes image, and iTunes said:
"iTunes must check the iPhone software update server to identify this device..."
    I clicked "check"
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes"
I clicked "ok" - then clicked "restore".
"Automatically checking for iTunes and iPhone updates is disabled. Would you like iTunes to check for a new iPhone software update?"
    I clicked "check".
"Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone "iPhone" to his factory settings?...."
    I clicked "Restore and Update"
    "extracting software....preparing iPhone for restore...."
"the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (13)."
    TOAST
I loved this phone, and now it's a brick!
    Will apple help?

I had a similiar issue last night when upgrading my just purchased iPhone to 2.01. Itunes downloaded the new update but during the install I received a message stating "the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." I tried this 4 times and got the same results. My iPhone had a dark screen with icons of a cable and itunes on it. Well I called apple support waited for 30 minutes to get to a techinican. After explaining my issue he put me on hold for another 15 minutes then I mysteriously was transfered to AT&T. I was hot to say the least. I WAS able to fix this on my own. I originally was using an imac with iTunes 7.71 on it. I had a PC laptop with iTunes 7.70 (not 7.71). I plugged the iPhone directly to the PC (Not a USB hub). I was successful with the upgrade doing this. I upgraded 2 other iPhones that day and received the error 6 code. But after a second try they went through. I think there is an issue with iTunes 7.71 causing the failures during updates. Try to get your hands on a copy of iTunes pre 7.71. And ensure you are connecting the phone directly to the computer.

  • Help!!! 3G bricked after software upgrade

I have a 3G 16GB which I *updated to the newest OS release today* (after being asked by iTunes). Now the phone is kind of *bricked showing changing/moving grey lines on a white background* whenever started. I have put the phone in recovery mode with success and iTunes then asks me to restore the phone which however *fails with an error 1611*. Same result on multiple attempts. Has anyone seen the same or can advise on how to restore the phone?

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275 has info on how to fix error 1611.

  • IPhone bricked after trying to upgrade

Ok so I had 1st gen iPhone that was updated to v2.0. It worked ok, but last night my machine says there is an update. I click to install and I didn't pay attention to it because I was packing. Anyway I come back and it says my install failed and I have to restore my phone. I click to restore my phone and it attempts to update but then fails with a "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)". Now I have a bricked phone but after work the next day I take it to the Apple store, one of the specialists was kind enough to restore it back to normal. I am thinking back in business I just need to restore my old settings, etc.
Unfortunately I get home and I try to restore again and it gives me the exact same error as last night. I tried uninstalling/resintalling itunes and quicktime but it still has the same problem. I need help! I would try the phone support but I don't have a phone now because this one is a paperweight. Please tell me it is fixable!

I have had the exact thing happening the past 2 days, but I have not been to the Apple Store.. that was my plan tomorrow. But it sounds like it will be a wasted trip! I have spent hours and hours searching for anything online with my issue, and your's is the ONLY one I have found. So thank you. My phone is recognized in iTunes as "in recovery mode.." and I click the Restore and it comes up with the same error message. Have tried it on two different Macs with exact results, each separately downloading the update (thought the download might be corrupt, but no).

  • Nokia X6 Bricked after Software Update :(

I have nokia X6 8gb. Yesterday i decided to update its software by connecting it to pc via usb and ovi suite. Every thing worked perfectly and update started installing. Then after it finished. Phone turned off. I thought that it was usual as phone would need a restart after installation. I waited... Waited and then waited 15 minutes and it didnt turned on automatically. So i pressed the power button and phone just gave a vibration and did nothing else. No even the red/green light blinked when i pressed power button.
It is really ridiculous stuff. Firmware updates are not meant to brick the phone.
Before anyone ask, i'll make it clear that i havent installed any cracked/unsigned stuff on my phone. Everything was legit.
My phone is just 4 months old so nokia should either repair or replace the phone free of cost. Am i right? I need a conformation from someone legit.
Another thing i would like to ask, is it necessary to bring the purchase bill to the service center? Wont they know by checking the imei number who is the buyer and then they could check my driving license to confirm ? I'm on vacation so can go back in between just to get the bill.

Have you looked at this post on forum?
    /t5/Pool-of-Knowledge/Recovering-from-a-failed-firmware-update/m-p/398147/highlight/true#M112
Nokia Care Point won't necessarily have to verify ownership as if sold in EU it will be recorded as eligible for 24 months warranty and you're not asking them to reset "lock code" which can be suspicious.
Unfortunately firmware updates can fail and your X6 probably just needs to be re-flashed.

  • WRT110 Bricked after fw update to 1.0.07

My wrt110 started disconnecting twice and even three times a day for the past week or so.  After getting tired of it I decided to look for a fw update.  Hold and behold there was, from 1.0.05 I was going to upgrade to 1.0.07.  Well halfway through the process using the web-console connected via ethernet & ie8 the freaking upgrade stopped at 80% and the browser page went blank.  Immediately I knew I was probably out of luck, looked at the wrt110 to see a blinking power light.  I've done all the resets in the world inluding the so called 30-30-30 to no avail.

As the power light on the router is blinking, the router seems to be bricked.Try this link to Unbrick the router and try to upgrade the firmware again on the router.

  • PC completely crashed after installing latest iTunes update-coincidence?

I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes upgrade yesterday. After doing so it asked me to restart my PC which I did. However, my PC would not then start, I get a black screen with the message:- "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt - \windows\system32\config\system "
I have tried rebooting from the "last known good configuration" in "safe mode" and have also tried restoring the system with the cdrom that came with the PC.
Is this problem connected to the iTunes download or is it just a coincidence that my PC has crashed immediately after this?? It seems very starnge as I have never had any problems like this before. I am now using my work laptop to post this message as my home PC seems to be completely kaput.
Has anyone any advice or has anyone suffered the same problem?

This error is often due to a corrupted registry. I am afraid I can not help you myself, but this Miscrosoft article seems to cover it:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
If you google: missing corrupt \windows\system32\config\system
you will find quite a few other hits about the problem.
PS I noticed that the Microsoft method does not aply if you have an OEM installed Windows:
+Warning Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM installations creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist previously. If you use the procedure that is described in this article, you may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the original registry hives.+

  • IPhone 4 Bricked after updating to iOS5

So, the day iOS5 update came out for the iPhones/iPods/iPads I was egar to get it downloaded to update my software on my iPhone 4. I noticed they had an update for iTunes so I went ahead and updated my iTunes before I started updating my iPhone 4.  After waiting for my iTunes to update, I then downloaded the new iOS5 update...ran a backup on my iPhone 4. After I updated iTunes, downloaded the new iOS5 and backed my phone up, I then plugged my iPhone 4 to my computer to run the iOS5 update...the update successfully updated. I used it for 2 days working perfectly. When I was traveling last Saturday, I pulled the notification center down to check all my notifications and my screen turned off.  I've tried to hard-reboot it...everthing, it had completely bricked on me! I noticed that my screen was still on, but it was black. I then plugged my iPhone 4 in to iTunes and iTunes recognized my phone for about seconds then an error message popped up saying that iTunes can't recieve any data on my iphone becasue there is an error. I called apple and they said bring it in...I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem? Or does anyone know a solution besided taking it to apple? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you, Justin!

  • L540 bricked after installing Linux

I bought a demo unit with no OS on it. Suited me just fine. Did my research and it seemed to have good Linux support. So I thought...
Installed Kubutu 13.10, which worked fine running from usb stick. Since the SSD was empty, I let the installer partition it for me. Rebooted. And, that was that.
It wouldn't boot, I couldn't enter BIOS and none of the F-keys worked.
I then tried removing the SSD, same thing, nothing after the ThinkPad logo. I also tried with another SSD just for fun, but that didn't do much difference either.
Talked to support, and they said it was bricked, and they had to replace the mainboard. First time in since I started using Linux in 1996 I've totalled a computer just by installing a proper OS =).
Anyway, my question(s): should I have set some magic settings in BIOS prior to installing? If so, which ones, so it doesn't happen again when I get my computer back. And what could have happened? Or did I just have bad luck (beeing that it was a demo unit, and that).
All this UEFI, secureboot and whatnot is all new to me. Never had a computer with it before.
Since it was a new computer, and I only ran it for 15-20 minutes before sending it for repairs, I have no idea what BIOS version I had, so maybe it was a BIOS bug, any ideas?

Hi, thank you for the advise, but maybe you don't understand me correctly.
The problem was that I couldn't go to BIOS. I had only a black screen and when I started the laptop it didn't appear even the Thinkpad's logo. And when I installed Fedora I had used only the descrete graphics.
Now, my problem was fixed by service, but I couldn't understand what was happening. So now I am a little bit uneasy to try to install some linux distro on my T500. Can anyone give advise what friendly-user distro is good for this model?
