Bricked my touchsmart -tx2 1025dx. Cap/Num lock LEDs blinking once.

Bricked my touchsmart-tx2 1025dx.  Cap/Num Lock LEDs blinking once, so I replaced the processor but the LEDs are still giving me a single blink (processor issue).  Any advice?

Hey NikosK,
The one-blink code is indicating an issue related to CPU and/or system board (bent pins, etc.). It's possible that the system board needs to be replaced.
Here's a table of all of the LED codes:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443366&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en
Do you know what caused this issue in the first place, before replacing the processor?
I am an HP employee.

  • HP Pavilion DV7-1428ca _ CAPS + NUM LOCK Continually Blinks + Will not Start up Black Screen

Would appreciate any suggestions on the issue I am encountering.
I have an HP Pavilion DV7-1428ca that was left powered on, so it went into Safe mode (screen goes blank). Once I came back to my Laptop hitting any key would take out of of the Safe mode however this time it did not. It remained with black screen irregardless of buttons pressed.
Had booted and can hear the fan and hdd go for the 2secs then it stops to a Black Screen with the "CAPS + NUM LOCK" Continually Blinking. Tried to Hard Boot several times but the same thing re-occurs.
It does not seem to be blinking in a series a code, just a steady blink (every sec) for both the CAPS + NUM Lock for as long as I leave it on. HP Site provides a chart from 1-6 series of blink codes which does not seem to apply to me.
Being out of Warranty I am hesitant in bringing it to a local repair shop without trying any alternate trouble shooting first.
    Thanks

    Hi,
First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.  Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out ) and see if the notebook will start.

  • Caps Lock/Num Lock LED blinks 5 times on bootup - HP ProBook 6450b

Hi all members/pros, I was tasked to resolve a bootup issue on a HP ProBook 6450b and did managed to get it up and running again without much effort. The notebook Caps Lock/Num Lock LED flashes/blinks 5 times  and then pauses and blinks again 5 times. Seeked assistance on online HP support(link below) and it stated that it was a System board failure. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 So then I opted to swap the hard disk tand LCD monitor hardware with with another HP ProBook 6450b which is functional but display damaged as the user was a senior manager at where I worked - Boroko Motors, Papua New Guinea - and prolong downtime was not an option. Just as I was about to get under the hood, the buggered notebook deciided to spring back to live loading onto the Windows login screen. I noiced also that I was in our server room(with much cooler temperature) that may have aided the componenets on the main borad to function so I presumed the cooling system was at fault. I then got under the hood and confirmed that the fan/vents were clogged up with dust/debris which might have collected over time. Did the cleaning and after that it hasnt failed so far... Thanks all! Get the HP ProBook 6450b service manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02760808.pdf

I, recently, bought a 6735b hp laptop for $100. It does the same thing as your describe. I think the motherboard overheated. So, I ordered a new motherboard from getcomputerparts.com out of China to see if it will solve the no boot problem. I'm hoping this will solve the problem. I noticed that when I first got the laptop, second hand, that the fan wasn't blowing out, and later found a lot of dust that simply blowing it out solved the air circulation problem. I think that the heat destroyed some connections to the video or hard disk drive controller chip which made my hdd light blink on and off every second or so, and also made my Optical Drive seem to blink its LED on and off, and a slight scratching sound every second, as well.
I also, saw on Youtube.com, a video about the nvidia video chip getting connection heat damage at the solder joints, and there was a way of putting a penny with heat sink paste after 'burning' it for a couple of hours with a hot spotlight lamp with aluminum foil around the rest of the board to protect the rest of the board other than the video chip. But, this was on another hp product that failed after 1 year, no screen no POST.
I am hoping a 'new' system board will do the trick though, and I am spending about $153 for the part delivered, and $75 to put it in at a local computer shop.

  • HP Pavilion tx2500 - Caps Lock and Num Lock lights blink once

I turn on my HP Pavilion tx2500 and I hear the fan spinning but nothing else happens.  The lights next to the Caps Lock and above the Num Lock keys blink (a repeating single blink).  According to some HP technical support documents I found online, the repeating single blink indicates a CPU problem.  My laptop is out of warranty and the $400 to send it to HP to have it fixed is practically the same price I paid for the laptop 2 years ago.
Do the blinking lights mean the CPU is fried?  And is there anything I can do to fix the laptop?
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

I have the same problem. I called HP they said the same thing. But, I am BIOS engineer myself and has worked with lot of motherboards, So I felt there is no point in sending a 399$ to find what happend and on top of that fixing charges.
I noticed the problem started when I installed Win 7 Ultimate edition to the board and let tbe board Idle for a long time and it went into sleep mode and when I hit the button for resume it would not resume, the blinking started.
I have seen the same thing happend to my friend laptop, luckily for him it recovered and he removed the Sleep Option. SO his laptop is shutdown or running in full power.
I thought this is not coincidence, there is defenitely a bug in HW or SW that is causing it. remove battery. I replaced the memory and removed the cmos battery and left for a long time (short the battery terminals to discharge quickly). Then I rebooted the machine, Luckuly for me it went to windows, I tht of replacing the BIOS firmware, bcos they ahve some latest on by that time I had a visitor and I was talking to him the system went into sleep mode and will never recover. The system started blinking. I dont see this as a CPU problem.
I still evaluating this. I will try to post my findings. I have aclip to read the BIOS chip but everytime i get different read. SO I am planning to remove the BIOS chip and put a socket so that I can play with the BIOS.

  • Caps/Num lock LED indicators not working in gnome

I have a qPad MK-85 mechanical keyboard, and I can't seem to get the LED status indicators for the lock keys to work.
The CAPS and NUM lock function still works, but I don't have any indication whether they'r'e on or not.
It only seems to be under gnome I have this problem, because they're working just fine in grub, windows, and tty2-6.
I have done a search and it seems a lot of other people with mechanical keyboards have the same problem, but no solutions.
So.. anyone here have any solutions?
Edit: tested in xfce, not working there either

For about 2 weeks now my laptop has refused to display anything. When I turn it on, nothing displays on the screen but the caps lock LED blinks once every 2 seconds. Also the wireless button displays orange light but nothing on the screen.
It managed to display once in this 2 weeks and the error message I was able to see before it came on read something like:
    HP Battery Alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of .....(did not see all the message on this line)
very low. For optimal performance, this battery .... (did not see all the message on this line also)

  • HP Touchsmart tx2 1025dx keyboard not working. Touchscreen does work. Help.

HP  Touchsmart tx2 1025dx keyboard  not working.  Touchscreen does work.  Help.

I am having the exact same problem with the DoS beep that now sounds like screetching upon boot up. It is so bad that I can no longer turn off the computer, or it usually doesnt boot up for hours. I will give the USB keyboard trick a try tho.
The worst of it is that I leave the computer on standby at night to avoid the boot issue, and the computer starts itself up at night, like 2am and starts beeping nonstop until I manually power it down with the power button. Ive been having these problems for 2 years, since I first purchased the computer, and I just recently found out that the battery has failed, even though the computer is ALWAYS plugged in, and has been used on battery mode for all of 10 hours max. I believe this boot problem is a battery related issue. This battery is not on the HP recall list (not surprisingly).
I called HP customer support, and even contacted a case manager. They pretty much dont want to hear about the problem because I am out of warrantee x1 year. They pretty much dismiss it until I pay 330$ for repairs. They laugh at the anguish this night-time awakening is causing. Very disrespectful for HP customer service. Not sure if I will buy an HP again.
Anyways, let's work on this issue together. Can anybody send me a link to that manual? I would like to try resetting the RAM. This computer is in brand new condition, and the keyboard, battery and boot are all malfunctioning for no reason at all.
Best of luck in your search for answers.

  • Repurposing a Caps-lock LED as a Num-lock LED

On my laptop, I recently remapped my Caps lock key to a backspace key. Therefore, I now have a keyboard LED that never lights up. Worse still, despite having a numpad, this laptop does not come with a blasted Num-lock LED!
I am wondering if there is an elegant way to sort of repurpose the Caps-lock light as a Num-lock indicator. I'd like something a little more intelligent than "write a shell script that polls the numlock status every X seconds and set the caps lock light accordingly."

I imagine that this would be dependent on what brand of system you are running, and whether there are proper wmi modules for it (and if these modules provide LED control).

  • Caps-lock and scoll-lock LEDs blinking

Ok so a friend gave me 2 dv7-1245dx laptops. When I turn them on both screens do nothing, and the caps and scroll lock LEDs blink every 3 sec apart. On one of them the dvd drive also acts like it is trying to read a disc. External monitor didn't owkr, nor did changing ram to a set that know works, and swapped CMOS batterys between the 2 didn't help either. Also did a hard reset which also didn't help. Any suggestions?

It sounds like they may be experiencing a processor failure if it blinks only once with a 3-4 second pause between each blink.
Review this document as it has the decoding table for the blink codes.
One blink indicates that the processor has failed.  While it is is unlikely to happen on two notebooks simultaneously, it's not impossible.
The steps listed in the document is to reseat the processor or to have the unit serviced.
Normally, HP has a guide for most of the notebooks on how to reseat/replace the processor.  However, this particular system does not list the maintenance and service guide here.

  • Satellite A660 - Num Lock LED not on

    Hi everyone!
I've a problem with the Num Lock LED. Although the num lock is on, LEDs do not indicate this. This interferes me at work, a bit.
    Any Ideas?
    Regards, G.

    Hi buddy,
So you can use the number pad but just the LED is not on?!
Well, theoretically the LED could be faulty so its not on. Thats the only explanation I have. I mean if the num pad works its no hardware malfunction of keyboard itself so it must the LED
Do you use the preinstalled Windows version?
If your notebook is under warranty you can get a new keyboard for free. Just get in contact with an authorized service provider and explain the situation. The guys will help you to get rid of this :)

  • Failure to Boot Up, HP dv4-1225dx BLACK SCREEN Blinking Caps/Num Lock

    HP,
Since yesterday, my laptop has been unable to start up, at all. When I turn on the power button, the fans start to run, but there is no backlight on the monitor at all, just the audio system on the keyboard with continous blinking lights on both Caps Lock and Num Lock. These lights continue to blink forever until I am forced to shut the computer off.
The HP model is Dv4-1225dx, was running Vista.
Could I get some help to resolve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Although I hope you already resolved this issue I do have a temporary; possibly perminate solution. I read an article that sounds ridiculous, but it worked for me. Cover your pc with towels to block all air flow. Just leave the screen open so you can see it. MONITER THIS CLOSELY!! After 20 minutes or so it should turn on. Log in and back up what you can just in case. You also want to let the pc run a while to cool down. Shut down and let cool for at least an hour. Try to boot up. If you cant now repeat the above. It may take more than 1 try.
Hope this helps someone. Please also remember, this isnt a perminate fix but its better than junking your pc!

  • HP Pavillion dv6446 caps/num lock lights won't light

i had my laptop screen replaced and when i got it back the caps lock/num lock lights wern't working. i took it back to the guy who fixed it and he told me it he couldn't replace the LED's because they needed to be replaced and he didn't know how to replace LED's mounted to the motherboard. i found it a bit funny that both LED's blew at the exact same time, especially since i had several other problems that appeared after he replaced the screen (those problems have since been fixed by myself). is there some controller that has been messed with that would cause the LED's to not light up?

I am facing the same problem with my dv6500 and never had a so big issue as yours. I believe leds are ok (when I press "fn" + num lock) this led lights up. I would really appreciate a help from HP in this issue.

  • 12/27/07 update and Caps/Num Lock

I'm not positive that the update came out today, but it's when I found it and downloaded it. Upon the restart, my Num Lock light was on and so was Caps Lock. I thought it was odd, but I turned them off and didn't think about it.
Gee. Big surprise. The update managed to reverse the functions of these two buttons. If they turned OFF, i.e., the lights are OFF ... then the lock function is on. So if the caps lock light is OFF, caps lock is ON. Same thing for Num Lock.
Now, I like the little green lights myself, but I'm afraid to find out what else is reversed and screwed up.
I so regret paying for a family license pack. Particularly since I have not upgraded the other computers in the house after all the troubles I've had with Leopard.
    sigh

and you did the recent security update, too?
    EDIT:
Well, after the third restart, the issue seems to have resolved. Bizarre.
