Bricked ZTE Open C with flame(-kk) image

Hi,
in a state of mental derangement I have flashed my ZTE Open C with FLAME base image v180.zip:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/Flame/Updating_your_Flame
Now, the device is not working anymore (black screen). Any ideas or suggestions how to get my device back to life? I have tried the windows based "Open C Upgrade Tool" from ZTE but Windows (7) do not recognize my phone as USB device (some driver issues, "qhsusb bulk" is missing).

Hi Ralph,
I can not turn on/off my device anymore ("black screen"). I also can not access the device through ADB or fastboot.
The device is recognized from my linux system as a Qualcomm modem:
$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 05c6:9008 Qualcomm, Inc. Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode)
or in more detail:
$ lsusb -v

Device Descriptor:
bLength 18
bDescriptorType 1
bcdUSB 2.00
bDeviceClass 0
bDeviceSubClass 0
bDeviceProtocol 0
bMaxPacketSize0 64
idVendor 0x05c6 Qualcomm, Inc.
idProduct 0x9008 Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode)
bcdDevice 0.00
iManufacturer 1 Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM
iProduct 2 QHSUSB__BULK
If I connect the device to my windows system for trying to use the windows based ZTE tools from here:
http://en.comebuy.com/developer-firefox-os-open-c.html
windows is asking me for the QHSUSB__BULK driver ...
</blockquote>
I get the same under linux but I do get Windows coming up with:
Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM10)
Windows loads this device driver when I plug in the phone.
I don't know if that helps anyone to come up with a solution or not.
I was really enjoying this little phone and hope I haven't killed it.

    hi, i have zte open c with Fos 1.3 and there is no russian keyboard in settings (rus locale working fine), how can i install it? (i do not use linux) may be there is firmware update or something in market?

    To give an update on this issue, here is the latest information I have:
    "Indeed the current eBay Open C doesn't come with root privilege. Now ZTE is going to put an engineering build on their website for users to download and flash."
    I will update this thread as I know more information. Thank you for your patience.

  • How to connect ZTE Open C with Firefox OS 1.3 to a calDAV server of Synology DSM 5.1?

    Hi,
    I am running Firefox OS 1.3 on a ZTE Open C. I am trying to connect the calendar of the phone to a calDAV server of a NAS of Synology running DSM 5.1 (newest release).
    I go into the calendar app of the phone and configure the calDAV account:
    username: testuser
    password: *******
    URL: https://192.168.1.251:5006/testcalendar
    The calendar does not connect and the error message the phone shows is:
    wrong login and/or password
    Some background information:
    1. I am successfully connecting to this calendar from a Windows 8.1 PC (Firefox Lightning), an Apple iPAD (Apple Calendar), and a Linux notebook (Firefox Lightning). So the URL, the login and the calendar work ok.
    2. I am successfully connecting with the firefox browser of the phone using https to the mangagement interface (port 7001) of the NAS (the certificate is flagged as "untrusted" and a permanent exception has been made). So login with https works ok in principle.
    3. I get the same error message "wrong login and/or password" under DSM 5.0. So it is not a problem of the version of the Synology DSM calDAV server
    4. I get the same error "wrong login and/or password) with an unsecure connection using http and the respective URL: http://192.168.1.251:5005/testcalendar (beware of the changed port number using http). So it is not a problem of the ssl-connection.
    I have connected the phone to the linux machine and generated the log by running:
    sudo adb logcat -v time > calendar.log
    Here is are the results of the log (I have made 1 unsuccessful attempt to connect to the calDAV server on 11-16 14:26 and 2 unsuccessful attempts on 11-16 14:27. I am not sure for which message to look for so I just have the sections that contain most probably the bug (If required I can of course provide the full log or even re-test and re-log). my guess for the bug is:
    11-16 14:26:34.448 D/wpa_supplicant( 2965): RX ctrl_iface - hexdump(len=11): 53 49 47 4e 41 4c 5f 50 4f 4c 4c
    or

    Some help is very appreciated!!

    Hi Ralph,
    thanks a lot for the quick response. This is very appreciated! I will try to equally give you all the information required as quickly as possible.
    1. CalDAV Log on Synology:
    I have tested the connection between the calDAV client on ZTE Open C (Firefox OS 1.3) and the calDAV server on Synology (DSM 5.1) again and I get the same bug "wrong login and/or password". The logs on the Synology NAS show the following (Synology NAS: Control Panel-> File Services -> webDAV -> Advanced Settings -> View Logs -> Select: Connection)
    User [testuser] from [192.168.1.6] failed to login in via [WebDAV] due to authorization failure
    2. Seperate Folder/Files for calendar on Synolgoy
    I have setup the CalDAV files on Synology NASin a dedicated folder. The calendar ist in https://192.168.1.251:5006/dir_PersonalCalendars/testcalendar . Unfortunately the error on the ZTE Open C is the same as before: "wrong login and/or password" .
    Interesting is, that if I mis-type the folder or the calendar name, then I get on the ZTE Open C the error: "Something is wrong. Try again later".
    This suggests that the folder and files are well recognized when loggin in.
    Hope that helps you to continue. If you need something more, than please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Schaefi

  • How I can report the bugs I've detected in my firefox ZTE OPEN C with OS 1.3?

    1. when I set the alarm this works erratically, is activated at the scheduled time and then comes back on at different times even when it was disabled.
    2.-The consumption meter data is eventually restarted.
    3. Lowering the brightness to the screen, it works while you are using the ZTE OPEN C. When goes to sleep and re-enter the brightness starts and stays full even when I check the control over it and is on low gloss position.

    Hi JGM.,
    This was a question that the support team also had. There is a limitation of what we can do to fix bugs on specific OEM builds, however there is a component in Bugzilla.mozilla.org called "Vendcom" that you can file them in with the tag [ZTE Open C 1.3][Componet] etc/
    ZTE also has a support contact [http://www.ztedevices.com/support/selectproduct.html?type=software] and you can contact them there as well.
    If you have any other questions, we are happy to help.

  • Has anyone successfully used the ZTE Open C with an AT&T microcell?

    I have a ZTE Open C and have had no issues with initial setup w/AT&T. However, like most newer phones the voice signal reception is very weak.
    I've had an AT&T Microcell before, but I don't have one now. For those that are unaware, the microcell allows 3G phones to connect via a 3G signal, but the call is routed through a home broadband internet connection.
    Has anyone successfully used a ZTE Open C w/Firefox OS AND used an AT&T microcell? If yes, did you need to do anything special on the phone or with Firefox OS.

    I don't use a ZTE Open C, however, I do have a ZTE Open (Original) on AT&T and so I'll see if I can help ;D
    I know someone who has a Microcell, and I have used it myself a few times. However, the microcell only works if you have entered in your phone number into settings of the Microcell.
    Check the Microcell settings.
    Check the data connection settings on your FxOS device
    Make sure your Microcell is properly connected to WiFi
    and check the AT&T support page for more info
    For a while, it actually hasn't actually worked for me. I apologize if this doesn't solve your problem :D

  • Adding a panel to an open GUI with a background image

    Dear java programmers,
    I want to add a JPanel with some components on an open(visible) GUI whenever a button is clicked. That JPanel carries a button, a progress bar, a label, and a textarea inside a scrollpane. Whenever the button of the panel is clicked a program starts working, and the progress and output of that program is reflected on the progress bar and textfield respectively. I 'put the code to generate and add the panel in a so called "Progress" class, which is different from the GUI class that contains the code to create and display the main gui.
    My gui also has a background image to make is look fancy, which is added by the following way:
    GUI mygui = new GUI();
    mygui.getContentPane().add(new ImagePanel(new ImageIcon("/home/thomas/Documents/external_placement/Report/presentation4_transp.png").getImage()));
    My problem is that the background image is hiding the panel (whenever added) and only when the cursor passes above the button inside the panel it becomes visible (just the button). However when I click the button and the program starts I can see everything inside the panel.
    Is there an efficient way of making the panel visible at once?
    thanks in advance,
    Tom

    Ok now that I'm certain about how to use code tags I'll try to make myself clear.
    First of all I made it work by removing the ImagePanel , adding the JPanel and re-adding ImagePanel, all from within the Progress.class. But I'm not sure if this is the right way.
    Below I'll make an attempt to provide some SSCCE--code. First of all the classes I'm using are 2, the GUI.class which contains all the components of the gui, and the Progress.class which has the additional panel and adds it to the gui whenever the "submit" button is clicked.
    The code from GUI.class which is relevant to this question is:
    public class GUI extends javax.swing.JFrame{
    //the following are declared as "protected" because they are also used elsewhere
                protected static GUI mygui = new GUI();
                protected static ImagePanel backgroundImagePanel = new ImagePanel(new ImageIcon("/home/thomas/Documents/external_placement/Report/presentation4_transp.png").getImage());
                /* The constructor */
                public GUI() {
            initComponents(); //this method initializes all the components, puts the in a JTabbedPane and packs them the JFrame
            setLayout(new BorderLayout());
        /* the eventlistener of the "submit" button */
        private void submitButtonActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            ProgressBarTest pbt = new ProgressBarTest(mygui);
            pbt.StartProgress();
        public static void main(String args[]) {
            java.awt.EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                public void run() {
                    mygui.getContentPane().add(backgroundImagePanel);
                    mygui.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
                    mygui.pack();
                    mygui.setVisible(true);
    } And then I have my Progress.class:
    public class Progress implements ActionListener, Runnable {
    //the following are declared as "private" because they are also used elsewhere inside the class
        private static javax.swing.JProgressBar progressBar = new JProgressBar(0, 100);
        private static javax.swing.JTextArea progressTextArea = new javax.swing.JTextArea(5,20);
        private static ProgressBarTest _this;
        {color:#0000ff}private static GUI mygui;{color}
        /* the constructor */
        public Progress(GUI gui){
            _this = this;

        private static void createAndShowPanel(){

                    progressBar.setValue(i*100/chainArrayLength);
                    progressTextArea.append("Docking chain No "i".\n");
                    System.out.println("actionPerformed sets progressBar value to: "+i);
                    dock.StartDocking(i);
    }Please notice how I use the GUI object (named "mygui") inside the Progress.class to retrieve components from the main gui (particularly the jTabbedPane1), align them with the additional panel (progressPanel) and add them to the main gui again. I tried to color blue the lines where the GUI instance is used but I'm not sure if they will be visible.
    My questions are:
    1. Is this the right way to add a new panel to a jFrame from an external class? Do I add jTabedPane twice in the above code?
    2. Is this the most efficient way of making the additional panel visible at once, meaning by removing the ImagePanel (backgroundImagePanel) adding the panel (progressPanel) and finally adding again the ImagePanel (backgroundImagePanel)?
    Hope I was perspicuous.

  • Updating the ZTE Open C from Mozilla Nightly system images

    I wanted to update my ZTE Open C from 1.4 to 2.1. When I update it from the official Mozilla Nightly system images from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/ everything is good except the font is tiny. I tried to apply the font fix but it doesn't work. Any idea how to fix this ?

    Hi RazorMKD,
    Thank you for your response. I'm sorry to hear that you also have issues when flashing your ZTE Open C with with older versions of the Flame build.
    Can you please explain the steps you are taking to flash your device? Flashing the ZTE Open C device with a Flame image requires a shallow flash, since the Gonk its may not work correctly on the ZTE Open C.
    Where did you purchase the device? Can you also attempt to flash your device with ZTE's commercial rooted build to see if this issue persists? Please follow [http://en.comebuy.com/developer-firefox-os-open-c.html this link] for the files and further instructions.
    Please let us know the results.
    In the meantime, I contacted developers in the dev-b2g mailing list so that others can chime in with possible solutions.

  • How to update apps in a ZTE Open (with FFOS 2.0 custom build)?

    I have a ZTE Open I regularly update trough custom builds. In particular, I updated it to the 2.0 version by:
    BRANCH=v2.0 VARIANT=user ./config.sh inari
    BRANCH=v2.0 VARIANT=user ./build.sh
    The operation has apparently been successful, and by the test apps being missing I guess that I really built and flashed the user variant.
    Now, I do not expect system updates to work, as I heard that the inari update channel has been shut down.
    Though, I would expect it to at least automatically update the third-part apps from the Market store. This does not seem to happen: I have outdated apps (Loqui IM v3.1, in particular) but the "Check now" button from the Settings has no effect (it says "Checking for updates", but nothing else happens).
    Moreover, I do not remember of having ever received an update with previous build, so I guess it may be not a problem with this particular build.
    Is there something I can do about it?

    Are other ZTE Open users with a custom build experiencing the same problem? Do you receive any app update at all?
    I can't tell whether there is a problem in my build, in some setting or in the device.

  • How can I manually upgrade a ZTE Open C to 2.1?

    I have a ZTE Open C with 1.3, I would like to upgrade to 2.1 to play around. Has someone done it? Can I just install the build that I want to try (this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/firefox-os/general/zte-c-2-1-modui-t2853315) by entering recovery mode and selecting the proper .zip file in the SD card or do I have to do something before? if I understand correctly I have to root the phone before, would this upgrade do it? -> http://www.ztedevices.com/support/smart_phone/46d40c52-bed4-4cdc-9df9-01719cdf0a70.html?type=software

    It is up to you if you want to risk flashing your device where the build is not directly from ZTE. There is the possibility of bricking your device as well. Please proceed at your own risk.
    Geeksphone has a set of instructions [http://downloads.geeksphone.com/drivers/Manual_flash_geeksphone-eng.txt here], provided I do NOT know what is inside the .zip.

  • ZTE Open 1.1 : STILL error downloading updates

    So after 4 months (!), there is finally an update for the ZTE Open to 1.1
    After bricking devices, withholding updates and a generally sucky experience, we now finally receive the update that will deliver us!
    Right..?
    ...oh no, wait. Sorry, my bad.
    "There was an error when checking for updates"
    "Error while downloading the updates"
    So after all this time, the best Mozilla and ZTE could manage was, apparently, to have the same @#$%ing problems in the new update that were there in the previous version.
    Screw you guys, I'm going home (to Android*, which, y'know, actually works).
    *: Because the moderators asked us to compare to Android, if I remember correctly.

    I got the download for the official 1.1 update from ZTE. I have followed the instructions, but when the phone rebooted it goes to a blank screen after playing the firefox boot animation. I let it sit there for about 10 min and it wouldn't respond. Finally had to pull the battery.
    I tried the md5 check, and I get the following error:
    Finding file_list package...
    Opening file_list package...
    Verifying file_list package...
    E:failed to open /system/etc/verify.zip (No such file or directory)
    E:signature verification failed
    I tried to reinstall the update and got this:
    -- Install /sdcard...
    Finding update package...
    Opening update package...
    Verifying update package...
    E:failed to verify whole-file signature
    E:signature verification failed
    Installation aborted.
    Is there a way to restore my phone? I've been searching the internet and I keep getting linked back to the ZTE Open site, but the old images seem to have been removed.
    Right now, when I boot the phone I get the FireFox OS logo, then the fox animation, then I get a quick bright flash of white before the screen goes out.
    If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

  • How do I correctly update ZTE Open C

    Hello.
    I have a ZTE Open C with unlocked bootloader and a 1.4 build installed. I re-flashed to 1.4 instantly after the phone was delivered.
    My question is, how do I correctly update it from source without loosing my data?
    Currently, I'm pulling the latest source from git, doing this:
    git pull
    ./repo sync -d
    And then flash it to the phone using.
    ./build.sh gecko
    ./flash.sh gecko
    Than a change directory to gaia and build/flash it using:
    make clean && make install-gaia
    All flashes okay, without any errors but I still got old build identified in More Information:
    20140703092209
    instead, the Git commit info is updated:
    2014-07-07
    f2c11876
    Does this mean I'm correctly updating if the git commit info changes? Or something is wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi svnpenn,
    The point of my comment was to express my excitement that ANTONBORODA was able to manually update his device, and to show my appreciation that he shared his findings in the forums.
    These support forums are geared towards user-facing issues. This means that development, manual updates, and porting of devices is not usually supported.
    This was the second reason for my comment: to set the correct expectations for users with developer-related questions who may come to this thread through Google searches. Users looking for this type of support are more likely to find help in developer-related pages like [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS MDN] or [http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/firefox-os StackOverflow].
    However, the main reason for replying was to welcome ANTONBORODA to the community and recognize his contribution to the support forums (by sharing his findings). I hope this helps you understand my reasoning.

    I am using a Photoshop cs2, and I wonder if it is possible to keep the settings of the guidelines when closing an image, with the actual document ? It would be nice to have the guidelines locked down, I find it than when opening the same or another image, the guidelines are not locked, it is annoying to have to lock them down again. and it would actually be nice, to ba able to give specific directions when placing the guidelines. Thanks

    Then why are the guides unlocked when I reopen a document that I saved with the guides locked ?
    Thanks.

    Hi jholzworth,
    It sounds like you might have accidentally hit the zoom button. Try hitting ''CTRL + 0'' to return it to normal size. Just so you are aware, ''CTRL'' and ''+'' will zoom in and ''CTRL'' and ''-'' will zoom out.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I can only sync once a day with Hotmail on ZTE Open phone

    1. Each morning when I fire up my ZTE Open phone I can sync with my Hotmail account. Anytime after that it simply will NOT sync again for the rest of the day
    2. I have yet to actually read an email on my Firefox ZTE Open phone, once I choose any email it appears to start to open it up but I then just get the spinning icon, I've let it spin for 1 hour and still nothing appears.

    Thanks for response, but this is an issue with the app that is on the ZTE Open phone when I got it. So when I mention sync, I'm talking about the app syncing with Hotmail or Gmail for that matter. Has anyone managed to get this Email app working with their email account?
