Bridge 2.1.1.9 problems with Nikon D300 NEF files

I am getting a few Raw files from my Nikon D300 that will appear properly in Bridge, but the majority either don't show a preview at all or are very pixelated in appearance. The ones that do appear fine can be opened in ACR by right clicking and selecting "open in camera raw". However, the others that don't appear properly don't even show the option to open in camera raw. Yet the files are okay, because I can then open them from within Photoshop and process the files like that. The other odd behavior is that if I right click the thumbnail and rename the file then the thumbnail preview suddenly appears properly. Lastly, the pixel dimensions show incorrectly until the file is renamed.
I am using Windows XP SP2 with Photoshop CS3. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This has been very frustrating because initially it appears that the file may be corrupt.
Thanks!

This might not be helpful as I do not know why but .. I have a D300, and while Bridge is its usual flakey self, it has worked fine with the file formats. I tried all the combinations of compression and 12/14 bit and bridge sees them.
I do have cache weirdness, where it seems to reprocess them repeatedly, as though it is forgetful, but it does process and resolve them.
I've experimented with the "high quality previews" on and off, and when off the quality is definitely lower. Secondly if it is processing (or reprocessing) its cache, I see weirdness in the display where it may not display the quality preview either for a very long time, or not at all. But generally I've had no luck getting bridge to be usable while it processes its cache for a directory, I just let it finish and then use it.
However none of these flaky issues have been D300 specific, and been using it for a couple months now, and also with a D80 from my wife, no difference.

  • Problems importing Nikon D4s NEF files to LR5, Bridge, Photoshop CC / CC2014?

Is anyone having a problem importing Nikon D4s NEF files into Lightroom 5, Bridge or PhotoshopCC / CC2014 or Photoshop5?
I am running the latest updates: LR5.5, RAW 8.4, Photoshop CC latest update which, as far as I am aware, are all supposed to support the D4s NEFs but none will read the files; LR5.5 just shows "Preview unavailable for this file", Bridge just shows a blank and Photoshop shows "Photoshop cannot open this file".
I have tried 14 bit, 12bit uncompressed; but only jpegs show up??
All running on an iMAC 2.93Ghz Core i7 mid 2010; 16GB Ram and also on a Mid 2011 Macbook pro 2.2Ghz core i7 with 16GB Ram.
Is this camera supported fully yet?
Is anyone else having similar problems?
    Any ideas?

You probably used Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer. This causes corruption of the file so taht Adobe Software cannot read it.

  • Will there ever be an upgrade for Lightroom 3 that will work with Nikon d800 NEF files?

Will there ever be an upgrade to Lightroom 3 that will work with Nikon D800 NEF files?

Why not use Lightroom 4 instead?
I mean, assuming you can get it running fast enough, you'll usually get better results with PV2012 - right? And in the cases where you prefer PV2010 (if there are any), it's there too...

  • Some Nikon D300 NEF files don't appear in Bridge CS3 (Mac)

    Hi all,
I'm using a Nikon D300 and just upgraded to CS3 on my MAC in no small part because the D300 was not supported by CS2. I am running into a problem though.
I always shoot in both JPEG and RAW modes. When I open Bridge I always see each JPEG version of a shot.
However, only about 50% of the time can I see the NEF (RAW) version of the thumbnail. The rest of the time I only see a generic "RAW" thumbnail with no image. This sporadic NEF viewability carries over to the preview pane when I select such a NEF file.
Furthermore, Camera Raw cannot open the NEF files that are not visible in Bridge. When I try opening them I get a message saying "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this file type."
I have tried purging the Cache (through Tools) as some indicated in other forums threads but this has not helped. I have also downloaded the ACR 4.4 plugin and installed it in the correct library location.
Has anyone else experienced this (whether on a Nikon or other camera)? Any advice?
    Thanks

I've finally solved the problem with having only some of my NikonD300 NEF files viewable in Bridge/readable by Photoshop! Jon Michael Riley had said he was having similar problems so I wanted to make sure he and anyone else has the info on what worked for me.
The issue does not have anything to do with purging the thumbnail cache or installing the latest version of Camera RAW 4.4.1. While they were good suggestions (offered by Adobe's Technical support people also), they do not resolve this particular issue.
I read that an earlier version of what Jon described as "Nikon's clunky software" had corruption issues when images were first transfered from the camera via Nikon PictureProject Transfer. It looks like the latest incarnation has the same issues. Nikon products can see the transfered images without a problem. HOWEVER, Adobe Bridge/Photoshop cannot rectify the corruption issue caused by transferring photos using Nikon's utility.
So here's the solution: DO NOT use Nikon PictureProject Transfer! It is a piece of garbage! Instead, make ADOBE PHOTO DOWNLOADER the default tool to transfer images from the camera. To make it default do the following:
Open Bridge, pull down the Bridge CS3 Preferences. Select the "General" preferences set. On this screen you will see "Behavior". The first clickable box reads "When a camera is connected launch Adobe Photo Downloader". Select this box to render this the default transfer tool.
If you still have the pictures on your memory cards you can re-transfer them using Adobe Photo Downloader. All your NEF files should now be readable by Bridge/Photoshop. I've told Adobe Tech Support about this problem with Nikon's software. Hopefully they'll be able to check this as an option if others call in with similar problems.
Unfortunately I have not figured out how to repair the corruption in the files I transfered earlier using Nikon's piece of garbage software. Since I don't have the images on memory cards anymore I can't just re-transfer them. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this? Will I ever be able to access my earlier NEF shots?
    Cheers,
    Greg
Thanks to everyone for trying to help resolve these issues.

  • Help with Nikon D600 NEF files, CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta

I have been unable to open NEF files from my Nikon D600 in Photoshop CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta.  Any suggestions/guidance would be much appreciated.
RAW was set to 14 bit color, but I can't see that that would matter?

From discussion with others, it would appear that the files were corrupted during transfer.
I have some suggestions that I will try tomorow.
I have no problems opening old Nikon D700 NEF files in Photoshop CS6, and when ACR opens the file it indicates I'm using ACR 7.3 beta.

  • LR/ACR color mismatch with Nikon D7000 NEF files

I recently purchased the Nikon D7000. The NEF RAW files are not supported in current versions of LR and CS5.
Downloaded and installed LR 3.3RC. Also downloaded and installed ACR 6.3R1.
Both work with the D7000 NEF-files with ONE exception. If I shoot a "Multiple Exposure" (one feature of the D7000)  the resulting image in both LR and ACR displays in strong "pink"/magenta. All other images display correctly.
If I open the pink images in Nikon Capture NX2 2.2.6 they open correctly.
If I use the White Balance tool (pipette) in LR, I can bring the image back to "almost normal" but the WB values then are Temp: 2150, Tint: -138. Conclusion: the Multi Exposure Image from the D7000 is completely mismatched by LR/ACR. But they are correctly matched by Capture NX2.
This obviously needs to be corrected before final release.
Has anyone else expreienced the same? Is there a workaround?

Can you please supply some sample .NEF images? You can use YouSendIt.com with a target email address of [email protected] Thanks.

  • New iMac vs a G5 1.8 with Nikon D2X NEF File Processing

    Hello all,
I've been debating upgrading to a new iMac, and now with the 2.8 Extreme processor, my choice has been muddied a little, but I can't find any data anywhere if/how much faster it will be vs my old G5 processor. I'm probably not looking in the right places, but these forums have helped me in the past, so I thought I would turn to the Apple Illuminati.
I process Nikon D2X NEF files in CS3, and currently the fastest I can do is about three per minute. . which is dreadfully slow, nevermind trying to make adjustments in ACR and seeing the results immediately. Strangely enough, it used to process almost 5 per minute with CS2, before upgrading to CS3, but that is another matter.
Anyway, are there any users out there who can tell me how fast they are processing D2X NEF files with CS3 and using the new Intel processors?
I look forward to hearing from any and every body. .
    Thanks!
    DL

Bought a first gen Aluminum iMac with the 2.8ghz Extreme processor, and it is about four times faster processing Nikon D2x NEF files. . it screams!

  • Edit in Photoshop CS6 doesn't work with Nikon D800E NEF files in LR 4.1 RC

The "Edit in Photoshop CS6" menu item or shortcut (cmd+e) doesn't work for NEF files from a Nikon D800E in Lightroom 4.1 RC.  What happens is that LR looks like it goes through all its normal paces, and launches Photoshop, and the CPU spins, but then nothing happens in Photoshop, the image never opens.
This works fine for NEF files from other cameras.

Set up CS6 as an secondary editor, and then it will use LR's built-in ACR to process the files, instead of the external ACR with CS6. The external ACR 6.7 also processes D800, just not ACR 7 just yet.

  • Problem viewing  Nikon RAW (NEF) files in iphoto 6

    Hi
I just got a new MBP and tried to import images from my Nikon D80. Trouble is these images are neither recognised on import, nor do they show up in the library if I manually copy them into the directory.
Has anyone else managed to view these files in iphoto without first converting them to jpegs in another package. I wouldn't mind but I only have photoshop on my PC desktop and was hoping I could make do with iphoto on the mac for the short/medium term.

Have you installed the RAW update:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/digitalcamerarawsupportupdate101universal .html
    About this update
Mac OS X Tiger provides support for a variety of popular digital camera and image file formats. Applications such as Aperture, iPhoto and Preview utilize this support to work with digital camera RAW files. This update improves RAW file format compatibility for the following digital SLR cameras:
-Canon Digital Rebel XTi / 400D / Kiss X Digital
    -Nikon D80
    -Pentax *ist DS
    Other issues addressed:
-Handling of large Canon RAW files (.CRW)
    -DNG compatibility on Intel-based Macs
-Lines sometimes appearing in images exported from Aperture
... nor do they show up in the library if I manually copy them into the directory.
As a general rule putting files into the iPhoto Library Folder is not a good idea. iPhoto is a database, and the pics have to be imported into the app to be recognised. Further It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss

  • Question: Programs that work with Nikon D600 .NEF files

I recently upgraded to the Nikon D600.  With that, I’m unable to open RAW images in the programs that I currently have (PS Elements 9).  Does Photoshop Elements 11 have the correct software (Camera Raw 7 and higher)?  Or will I need to get the full version Photoshop CS6?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

PSE11 will handle your NEF files but you will need to update immediately after installation using:
    Help >> Updates
Also look at Lightroom 5. Unlike Elements it has all of the raw tools from CS6 in an intuitive interface designed for photographers by photographers.

  • Problem with NIKON D600 RAW files

I have had a new NIKON D600 for 6 months. The RAW files have worked well all this time. However, I recently took the camera in for repair. Upon its return the Adobe Essentials 11 catalague and editor no longer recognizes the RAW files created by the camera. However, those files are still recognized by the Nikon software ViewNX2. Since I use the Adobe program all the time for manipulating the files I need RAW access.
I called Nikon and they told me it must be an Adobe software problem. But the Adobe software recognized the files up the time of the camera repair.
What can I do about this?

    Hi,
How do you get the images from the card to the PSE catalog?
There are known problems when using older version of the Nikon software to download the images. Have you tried updating the Nikon software?
The D600 needs ACR 7.3. You haven't recently re-installed PSE 11 and not done the updates have you?
What version of camera raw is installed (Editor -> Help -> About Plug-in -> Camera Raw)?
Can you still open the older D600 images that you took before the camera was repaired?
What operating system are you using?

  • Quallity problems with Nikon D2Hs files, example files

    Hi,
I converted some Nikon D2Hs NEF files yesturday with Aperture 1.0.1 under OS X 10.4.4.
I got some bad results with funny artefacts. I can't use those.
You can download the results and take a look from my website.
In the light blue part of the small.jpg photo you migth see some red artefacts like lines but in the 400_percent.jpg zoom you can see it even better:
    http://www.motivio.de/tmp/small.jpg
    http://www.motivio.de/tmp/400_percent.jpg
In these example you can see bad artefacts in the light hole. I also added a conversion out of Nikon capture software to compare:
    http://www.motivio.de/tmp/aperture.jpg
    http://www.motivio.de/tmp/nikon_capture.jpg
Anybody having similar results with Nikon D2Hs NEF files out of Aperture?
    JO

Aperture made some slight improvements to RAW conversions with the 1.01 release. Ever so slight improvements.
Output from D1X conversions are chock full of artifacts and aliasing.
OK! President's day has come and gone marking the comeplete end to the holidays... so let us have that 1.0?? or 1.?? release!!

  • Bridge won 't recognize nikon d300 raw files

What is it with Adobe?  Every time I attempt to use their product I hit another road block.  First it was using LR and PS on a high resolution screen.  Then I purchased their monthly subscription and got multiple versions of PS, not knowing which is the newest and correct version to use.  Is Photoshop CC or Photoshop CS5 the newest version. Now I can't get Bridge CS5 to recognize my Nikon D300 raw files.  Has Adobe lost it's footing?   I am extemely frustrated with Adobe products and apparently so are thousands, if not million of other customers

  • Lightroom changes colour in my RAW files captured with NIKON D300

Dear All! Lightroom changes colour in my RAW files captured with NIKON D300. Some of the images are completely ruined. I am sure Adobe must be aware of this problem. What could be done? Is there a solution? Many thanks for your help. Regards, Stanislav

You want "something different" but this "something different" is quite hard to define.
I want a result which reflects the result on the camera. Have the feeling the display
of the D800 is not the greatest, at least (not only the color issue which is often discussed)
but also the exposure. Often I think I would need to compensate it, but then afterwards
on the computer the non corrected version looks most of the time better.
I think its interesting to see how allergic people react when the word jpeg comes up.
This is also just a rendered result, just by the camera. There are many options in my cam.
I like the vivid setting with some modifications. And that gives me a result I like.
And if I like the result, why shall I spend way more time to replicate it?
I do not talk about that I would want the jpeg, I only say that what I get color wise out of the
box is how I would like to look at it. I still want the capability to fix for example exposure  in image,
but I want the base the version I got from the jpeg view (or how the Nikon raw software could do).
On Lightroom I did not manage to have a profile that looked as appealing to me.
It also consumes way more time in my workflow to fix all pictures manually and results might differ.
To work on an image you need a starting point, I do not say the jpeg look is always perfect and
what I want all the time, but most of the time it is.
You say yourself you use profiles. So why should there not be a profile which automatically adjusts to the camera settings.
Its so frustrating to see a look which you like (the preview image when the pic is first accessed) and
then Lightroom switches to its own rendering which is flat and which I do not like.
For me its clearly something Adobe and/or Nikon should fix, like the mentioned "auto correct to preview look",
Nikon profiles/settings/raw-details in Lightroom or for example a Nikon import module.
