Bridge 2 Actiontec Routers

I have a Rev I router and a Rev D router.  The I Router is 80' from the ONT wired with cat5e and coax for the tv. I would like to add the second router about 30' from the ONT in the other direction. My question is, can I use the D router as primary and not use DHCP and keep my I router wired and configured the way it is now? If this will work, how would I configure the two routers?

These are pretty straight forward instructions

  • CALLING ALL EXPERTS - Connected TWO Actiontec Routers to use one as main and second as GUEST

    Hello Experts-
I have TWO Actiontec Routers from Fios. I bought the new N one, and I have an old Actiotec that I was previously not using.  So here is what I am trying to do...
I'd like to leave Router 1 (the New N router) as my primary router (comes from ONT via cat5 wire NOT Coax) and Set-up the second router off the first to be a guest router.  So essentially make it a bridge.
I can't seem to configure it to work correctly.
Can anyone out there give me a step-by-step walkthru on how to configure this second router so I can have them both hooked up, seperate SSID, with one as the Main and the other being the Guest?
    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

I'm basically wondering how to change the routers IP address and where the Disable DHCP is within the menus.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

To change the IP address of the Local Area network choose:
    My Network
    Network Connections
Click edit on the row for "Network (Home/)office"
On the next screen click Settings
On the next screen you can change the LAN (192.168.1.1) address to something different.
On the same screen you can disable DHCP too.
    I hope this helps.

  • Bridge Two Fios Actiontec Routers

    Hello,
I have two actiontec mi424-wr (rev c.) routers.  One is connected to the ONT via coaxial cable.  I purchased the other to put on a different floor of my house because the wireless signal was weak.  At the time I thought that all I had to do was split the coax and ru one to it to get it to receive internet, but I later read that this would not work without paying for the internet service twice.  After testing - it did not work.
So I can a cat-6 cable from one floor to the other.  Now I would like to bridge the two devices so I can get wired & wireless internet via the 2nd router.  I connected the ethernet cable to a lan port on the original router and into the WAN port of the secondary one.  However, the internet light turns orange and is unable to get the internet.
Does anyone know of any settings that need to be employed on either the original router (connected to ONT) or the secondary one (connected with cat6 in the WAN)?
    I appreciate any assistance.
    Thanks,
    C.

Lucidcg, If your first router is coax from ONT that router you should not have to configure. For your 2nd router on the 2nd floor seems like you have it wired correctly from the LAN port on first router to WAN port on 2nd router (upstairs). So the upstairs router WAN port would get configured an IP address of 192.168.1.xxx . You would need to login to the router on the 2nd floor & change the IP address scheme so it wont conflict with the first floor router. So you can try changing the LAN side of the 2nd floor router to 192.168.2.xxx. So any device that connects wired or wireless to the upstairs router would be assigned a local ip of 192.168.2.xxx. Hope this helps Brett

  • Using 2 Actiontec routers

I have 2 actiontec MI424-WR routers.  The previous tenant in my apartment left his here, and when I signed up for FIOS they shipped me a router with the cable box and such.
My place is small but for some reason the wireless connectivity in my bedroom is pretty bad.  Maybe it's the concrete walls, maybe there's a channel conflict, I dunno.
Either way I figure I have the second router, maybe I can just hook it up to the first (wired) and use it as an access point in my bedroom.  Is this feasbile?  I'm guessing I'd have to disable DHCP somehow.

You are going in the right direction, but if you have a working FiOS TV outlet in that area where you want it, then you should try this method.
    [PDF]
    Configure MI424WR as a LAN MoCA Bridge - A
Basically you take it to that room, get a two way tv splitter (5-1000mhz) and then hook the wall coax cable into this splitter.  The splitter will have two outs.  one cable will get connected between the new router, and a 2nd cable will get connected to your set top box.
Use the configuration settings as described.
Then you can plug straight into the router for the best connectivity (always recommended) or use the wireless from that router in that room.

  • Bridging Actiontec WI424WR to a DLink DGL-4500

I received a DLink DGL-4500 router today and would like to use the Actiontec modem as a bridge.
I'm not very familar with the process to set it up but have found several helpful instructions online, however, I have some questions:
    1.  When I look at the variouls instructions online, they do not specify whether or not I should actually install my new router prior to following the bridging instructions.  Should I install the new router BEFORE following the instructions online or can I do that afterwards?
    2.  How do I ensure that the instructions I'm following will still allow me to use my FIOS DVR and TV Guide?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Well there are a number of ways you can configure it to work in general.   Most FiOS customers have Coax as the primary internet connection from the FiOS equipment.  which means they simply can't replace the actiontec altogether.     The easiest way to do all of this doesn't involve any bridging at all,  and simply places the two routers on different subnets, and this is a 2-5 min configuration and retains all VOD styled functionality.   actiontec swears you can't do it, I have seen some people insist that they have done it succesfully but have yet seen it myself.  If you bridge the router then make sure to look at the below configurations to make sure your VOD works afterwards.  there are different ways to do it, and you want to make sure you are doing yours that way
This website will give you all the different configurations that you should need.

  • Two actiontec routers for WIRELESS use

    Hi-
I have read the other threads that I could find re: two routers but they all seem to pertain to something other than what I am looking for.
My problem: I have the FIOS big white box (is this the ONT?)  in my basement. I have the Actiontec router on the 1st floor in a room that is an extension (no basement access). I have an office in my basement and use the wireless from the 1st floor for interntet. The wireless signal from the actiontec used to be full blast in the basement but since I had the basement "redone" I now have literally no signal. My contractor thinks that maybe it is the double thickness drywall (soundproofing).
I called VZ and they offered me a new router, so that is coming in the mail. However, I am pretty certain it is not the router as my signal in the rest of the house is excellent.
Question 1) Can I hook ANYTHING to that big white box? Either my Mac that is down there via ethernet or a second Actiontec?
Question 2) I would love to have wireless down there. Can I have a second Actiontec down there that has either the same or a different wireless network?
Note: I do have a tv connection in my living room on the first floor. If it were possible to move my router to there and split the coax between the tv box and the router, I could possibly run a hardwire through the floor into the basement if that was the best way to get wireless down there again.

I don't have much to add as far as solutions. (Looks like the others pretty much have that covered anyway.)
I am curious though. Why did you put "redone" in quotes and why does it need to be soundproof? What exactly are you planning on dong in your, uh, office?

  • BRIDGE ACTIONTEC

HOW DO I BRIDGE A ACTIONTEC MI424-WR ROUTER WITH A LINKSYS E4200 ROUTER, I NEED THE LINKSYS TO BE THE MAIN ROUTER FOR OUR SYSTEM AND THE ACTIONTEC OPEN FOR ONLY THE TV'S.  I HAVE A STATIC IP IF THAT MEAKES A DIFFERENCE.  THANKS AND HOPE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE

If you have static ip, and fios tv service then you really need more than one ip. You need one for the tv device (vod, widgets guide) and one for your servers. Best way to do that is for verizon to do ethernet at their main box, a switch next, and then you would use the lan ports to each router.
This is a great link, there are eight different bridging methods, so if you are going to bridge, then you should take a quick look at the trade off take and make sure you are using the right method for your needs

  • Bridging two routers wirelessly

I am new to this and searched the forum and couldn't quite find what I was looking for.
A neighbor and I are trying to share internet access to both our networks and split the internet cost.  We both have the newest wrt54g so I 'm guessing firmware is out of the queston.  So i was thinking about getting a wireless bridge like a gaming bridge you can get at any electronics store, and put it at his house and hooking the ethernet connection to his internet hook up in the router.   Is that possible, will his router get my internet connection like my other computers and share it with his?  We want to keep the equipment we have up and running seeing how we have multiple wired connections on each router.  Any help would be much appreciated.  I also appologize if something similiar has been asked and if so can someone point me to it.

Remember: with a wireless bridge you create a single private network. All computers will be in the same network. Your neighbor will be able to access your computers (or at least try to).
Also: if you are using the wireless for clients (e.g. you have a wireless laptop) this will probably split throughput on the wireless in half as all traffic must be transmitted twice. Plus depending on the distance and the obstacles in the line of sight between the routers you may get a very slow unreliable connection.
Thus, if the houses are next to each other and you trust your neighbor I would simply run a cable (if this is possible). This way you have full speed internet access in your house, too.

  • Wireless bridging two routers

I have two routers. an airport express base station bought this earlier this year and a linksys WRT160N router. I am looking to bridge them wirelessly with the airport acting as the main router. It is upstairs with the broadband modem. The linksys router I have I would like to use downstairs and connect the bluray drive, directtv wireless box and xbox to the system. I have looked on the internet to help however I am still stuck on trying to have the linksys router "connect" to the airport and relay that signal.
I think the thing that gets me is not being able to correctly label the static IP address inputs. Under internet settings It asks for Internt IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS1 ( 2 and 3) are optional. In addition there is an option for network setup and that asks for Router IP address and subnet mask and DHCP server setting (which i assumed is disabled). Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

The issue is that most non-Apple routers are not compatible with Apple routers when it comes to extending their Wi-Fi range via a wireless connection ... and this is true the other way around.
The only option to extend your Linksys with the AirPort Express is to interconnect them by Ethernet and configure them for a roaming network.

  • How can I use two VERIZON ACTIONTEC routers with my home internet?

    Hi,
I currently have one Verizon Actiontec router (newest model) that is connected as my primary router that handles all the internet stuff and MoCA for the TV's. It is connected via Coaxial cable into the wall on the first floor of my house. My house is 4 floors - Basement - 1st floor - 2nd floor- loft.
Now, I have a second identical Verizon Actiontec router that I want to put into good use but not sure how. I assume the only thing I can accomplish with it is to extend the wireless network, or make it faster, etc. I'm not exactly sure.
My house doesn't have any ethernet wall jacks, only coax. But there is a coax jack in every room on every floor.
I do not want to drill any holes into any walls, or run long cables that go up to other levels.
My experience with this tech is not too advanced (I know how to reset the router, go into the config page, change security, some IP stuff), but my knowledge is not technical enough to understand how to configure this manually without instructions/assistance/guidance.
I hope I have provided enough information, if there is anything else I am missing or you need to know please inform me.
Thank you in advance, and I appreciate any advice.

You can use the extra router to provide ethernet and a Wireless Access Point (WAP) anyplace you have an active coax connection.

  • Using two Actiontec routers with two coax lines

    Hello all-
I currently have one Actiontec router with coax plugged in near my TV (best wifi distribution in house) and my PC in my home office using wireless. A while back the router had been installed in my home office, and another coax cable was put in. I currently have two coax cables coming into the house.
What I want to do is purchase another Actiontec router and plug my office's coax cable into it, and use the new router for a wired connection to my PC. Is there an easy way I can do this? Is itt as simple as buying the new router and plugging it in?
    Thanks.

It's easy, but not quite as simple as just plugging it in.
    Follow the directions here:
Can I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax?

  • Can I use two ActionTec routers with Verizon FiOS if they have two different revisions?

I want to add a second router to my coax cable and I know about configuring them already. But my main router is Rev. I and the second is Rev. G. Can I still use the second one? If not is there a way around it? My main router has been lower letters before but I've just gotten replacements and now it's at Rev. I. If that matters lol... Thank you.

You can connect the second Actiontec router via coax.  This link explains how to do it:
    http://www.dslreports.com/faq/15984
Note that there is less configuring that needs to be done if you use an Actiontec ECB2500C or WCB3000N.  Both of those devices are plug-and-play.

  • Bridging Actiontec MI424-WR Rev E Router to NETGEAR WGR614 v9 Router

I would like any information on how to succesfully bridge the MI424-WR Rev E router to the NETGEAR WGR614 V9 ROUTER.
I would also like it to keep On DEMAND features, as every time I attempt to fix this bridge, I lose all widgets and on demand.
The reason for my switchover is because the router provided with the verizon fios, is just awful. The signal strength is terrible, and although it is a G class WiFi router, the NETGEAR router which I am switching over to, is also a G CLASS router and can keep FULL SIGNAL throughout the entire house, where as the VERIZON PROVIDED router, loses a bar as soon as I step out of the bedroom door. That is LITERALLY 6 feet away.
If I can't switch it over succesfully now, the only other option is to switch to cablevision, due to their competitive internet speeds and the fact they supply you with a free N GRADE router.
Please help, it's an utter pain.
IT IS CONNECTED VIA COAX to the Verizon BOX downstairs

  • 2nd Actiontec MI424WR having internet problem (bridged)

I currently have 2 Actiontec routers, 1st one was installed by Verizon tech (Rev. F).  I bought another one off eBay (Rev. E) to set it up in my living room so I can have wired connections (printer, ps3 media server and 1 desktop).
I followed this guide from dslreport http://www.dslreports.com/faq/12506  but i'm still having problem

I see this on the Main Page
    Broadband Connection
         Coax Status:            Connecting...
         Connection Type:    Connecting...
the "Internet" light on the router is also solid amber.
When I go to Network Connections -> Full Status
    I see this
    Broadband Connection (Coax)
    Waiting for DHCP Lease
I setup the 2nd router to handle the wireless, and every morning the wireless is gone, i have to reboot the router in order for it to work again.
