Bridge 6.3 and Bridge CC incompatibility (bug?)

I've installed Photoshop CC and Bridge CC.  I already have a licensed copy of CS6.3.
I now find that, when I reboot and open Bridge 6.3, it crashes upon being closed (indicating that Bridge "unexpectedly quit," and it throws up a page of error messages).  Sometimes, after I open Bridge CC, which, at least so far, is working fine, Bridge 6.3 works correctly, closing without crashing.  But it continues crashing upon closing far more often than not.
Bridge 6.3 was working just fine prior to my installing Bridge CC.  So I suspect there is some unfortunate interaction between the two. Whatever error messages are created during the crash have been sent to Adobe via their automatic link.
Has anyone else encountered this anomaly?
thank you,
grampus

Here is the crash as reported by the CS6 Problem Report:  It clearly has to do with Switchboard.

  • Gallery Demo and IE7 Z-Index Bug

What is the workaround that corrects the problem in IE7
whereby Spry's Grow function shows enlarged images behind (not on
top) of their adjacent micro thumbs. Thanks in advance.

I'm confused. The example for Spry gallery DOESN'T use an
anchor tag around the thumbnails... In your article and in some
posts, you say that the structure is:
    <div id="thumbnails">
    <div class="thumbnail">
    <a href="image.jpg"><img src="image.jpg"
    /></a>
    </div>
    </div>
However, I downloaded Spry_1_6_1_022408 and copied the
example thumbnails element & content verbatim:
    <div id="thumbnails" spry:region="dsPhotos dsGalleries
    dsGallery">
    <div spry:repeat="dsPhotos"
    onclick="HandleThumbnailClick('{ds_RowID}');"
    onmouseover="GrowThumbnail(this.getElementsByTagName('img')[0],
    '{@thumbwidth}', '{@thumbheight}');"
    onmouseout="ShrinkThumbnail(this.getElementsByTagName('img')[0]);">
    <img id="tn{ds_RowID}" alt="thumbnail for {@thumbpath}"
    src="galleries/{dsGalleries::@base}{dsGallery::thumbnail/@base}{@thumbpath}"
    width="24" height="24" style="left: 0px; right: 0px;" />
    </div>
    <p class="ClearAll"></p>
    </div>
NO ANCHOR TAG. Even if you look in the generated source,
there's no link surrounding the thumbnail image.
So I guess I am unclear as to how to apply your fix? Using
the 1.6.1 version, the sample function code you show doesn't match,
nor does it seem to reflect your modifications...
Any ideas? I managed to track down your post about the bug in
IE 7 (it exists in IE6, too) [the demo link (
    http://mad.sweepingdesign.com/index.html)
goes to a page that says "It works!"]
The actual article can be found here, though the demo link
    shows nothing:

When i download files , they go into subfolders such as "000000000002" within downloads, why is this behaviour and is this a bug?

Thanks Eric, Most files i download is from a  incident management application developed from my employer.  i use that all day long. I think you are partially correct, The application that i use may be creating these subfolders and using to put files into that.
I will update this thread if i see that some other standard applications like safari / Mail are downloading into subfolders.
Is some one else facing this issue??

  • CS5 Bridge & Photo Downloader Bug/Feature Request

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Hopefully Adobe reads through this forum.
With CS4, my camera download workflow required using Image Capture, DNG Converter, and Bridge. With CS5, I can now perform the same workflow all in Bridge. I love it! Thanks Adobe. There seems to be a couple of bugs though. When importing with the new Photo Downloader, I do a "Rename Files" along with a "Convert To DNG." (part of my workflow has always been to back up the original NEFs and also the converted DNGs. You can never backup too much). Well with CS5, the NEFs get renamed and converted to DNGs but the renamed NEFs disappear. I'm left with the original camera-named NEFs which I then have to rename through Bridge's "Batch Rename" so that I can keep them matched to the DNGs. Adobe, you are missing the "Keep Original Files" for the "Convert to DNG" menu.
Also, the renaming sequence doesn't seem to update itself for the next import like it does in "Batch Rename" (which I always loved).
Anyways, thanks for the Photo Downloader. It saves me several steps.

Well, I have to retract my kudos for the Photo Downloader. I have gone back to my previous workflow of using Image Capture, DNG Converter, and Batch Rename. Photo Downloader has proven to be very unreliable with importing files in sequential order. And its inability to append past numbering is frustrating.

  • Bridge 5 operational bug?

BACKGROUND:  I have reconstructed the file arrangement of my 8 tera-byte, 630,00 image photographic archive.  All directories had BridgeCache files fully created.  The two master caches (to address the 500,000 image "limit") were constructed on an external esata/usb drive.  The option choses for the "Build Cache for Folders" had the "Export Cache to Folders" disabled under the assumption that it was not necessary since the master cache was being rebuilt from the folder BridgeCache files.   The reconstruction was done on a laptop running Bridge 5 under the Win XP operating system.  This multiple week operation completed successfully and the generated master casche systems work on both the WinXP lap-top as well as my main Win7 64bit workstation - with one excpetion.  This exception (I think) is a bug in Bridge.
DESCRIPTION of OPERATION:  I invoke Bridge in multiple ways.
    1. Start bridge initiated from the desk-top icon.
    2. Start bridge by drag-and-drop of the .BridgeCacheT file onto the desk-top icon.
    3. Start bridge by double clicking on the .BridgeCacheT file (associated with Bridge5)
    4. Start bridge by drag-and-drop of an image file onto the desk-top icon.
    5. Start bridge from another programme using the Win API function "ShellExecute" using the Bridge.exe path name and a path to a selected image (or .BridgeCachet) file as arguments.
    6. Start bridge from the Command Prompt using the Bridge.exe path name and a path to a selected image  (or .BridgeCachet) file as arguments.
If Bridge is started using 1,2,3 or 4 above, the operation is as expected for all rebuilt directories - thumbs are shown "very fast" and are properly constructed with whatever crop and other correction was made in Adobe Camera Raw.  This action is noted on both the Win7 workstation as well as the WinXP laptop.
If bridge is started by method 5 or 6, the operation is varied but identical on both computers.  If I access a directory that was created AFTER the cache rebuild described above (i.e. a new photography project), operation is fast and works rapidly with all thumbs and preview images being displayed properly.
If I access a directory (using 5 or 6) that was created by by the rebuild but has not yet been re-processed the following is noted:
    a. The Build Criteria stage of Bridge takes a long time searching all files in the directory.
    b. Thumnail and preview extraction start immediately after the Build Criteria stage is completed  (in spite of having the images already an properly in the master cache and in the .BridgeCache file);  Initial thumb display seems to be embedded thumbs in the image file - which is "fixed" during the processing.
Both of the above are very noticeable when I view the network activity with Windows Task Manager.
If I terminate Bridge at this point with the caches not reconstructed, I can restart Bridge by methods 1, 2, 3, or 4 above and the fully built thumbs and preview images are "instantly" available.  If I then restart Bridge using methods 5 or 6 above, the thumb/preview images rebuild takes place again - from where it left off in the previous attempt.
If I allow this rebuild for the directory to go to completion, I can restart bridge by any of the above 6 methods and the "reconstructed" images are immediately available.  The only network activity noted is a very low level doing what I assume to be a consistency/currency check for "unexpected" image file changes.
Browsing the master cache 256 and 1024 directories with the FastStone viewer before and after the rebuild yield no identifiable changes to the thumb nor preview files.
THE BUG:  It seems that, if bridge is started from the command prompt or by another programme, it may reprocess the images in a directory unexpectedly - in spite of the fact that starting bridge with normal desk-top icon or drag and drop do not cause the directory to be reprocessed.
My assumption is that ANY of the above 6 methods of invoking Bridge 5 SHOULD BE identical in operation.
I also notice that, if I start Bridge with the WinAPI ShellExecute function with ONLY the path the Bridge.exe (no file is specified), Bridge will start cleanly without an attempt to build any thumb/preview images.
It seems to me that the problem is associated with having a file name passed as an argument when using the Command Prompt or the WinAPI functions.
    Thank you,
    tony

It really would be nice if Adobe could provide a "fixit tool" that would update the cache structure to flag the various constructed cache directories as current and up to date in such a way that a rebuild and data duplication would not be done.  This would go a long way to making cache rebuilds from the .BridgeCache files a useful tool.
P.S.  This file processing problem did not happen when CS5 was released and I migrated from Bridge CS4 to CS5.  Hopefully a fix can be provided.

  • Bridge 5 operational bug Part 2 UPDATED

This is a follow-up to the note on and may clarify some of the operational observations seen in::
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/794019?tstart=0
Bridge 5 is duplicating directories of thumbs and previews.  Here is a small partial list of duplicated directories:
Volume in drive H is BridgeCache

Many more examples can be provided.
Each pair of directories contain identical 1024 preview images.  In all cases, the only difference in directory names is the hash code appended to the "primary part" of the directory name.  (In the above, the numeric directory names are of the form nnnn-nnnn)
The initial rebuild of the cache was massivly constructed during January 2011.  The more recent directories were constructed when the directories were recently accessed.   Please refer to the above mentioned thread for more details.  This data duplication "explains" some of the operational observations in that thread. Unfortunately, I did not notice this at that time.
The directory duplication shows that Bridge 5 is rebuilding thumbs/previews in a new directory even though it has rebuilt the complete cach "very recently" - in particular, the "madi" directory..
If I were to interpret this, it seems to me that Bridge computes the hash part of the name in different ways and therefor causes a data duplication and it's associated heavy resource overload when it is least expected.
I don't know if this manifestation is work-flow dependent:  I have work-in-progress directories on my workstation and have a master cache associated with these directories.  In all cases, the cache system is built with the export option to generate .BridgCache files. At various times, I copy the work-in-progress directories to my networked storage system.  Subsequently, using an appropriate "archival" master cache, I build the cache for the new directories.  I assume that the initial seed of thumbs/previews is copied from the .BridgeCache files.  The above directory samples are from the "appropriate master cache".
    UPDATE TEST
I did a test that just might be reproduceable
    1. A test directory on the worstation hard drives was created with three image sub-directories using a master cache directory on the workstation.  The caches were build and .BridgeCache files exported.  All viewing was perfectly fine.
    2. The test directory was copied to a network archive drive.
    3. The workstation master cache was deleted and a new master cache created.  A single small directory was added to visually acertain that the cache was properly functioning.
    4. Using the windows "drag and drop" feature, the test directory on the networked archive drive was dropped onto the Bridge 5 desk top icon.  Bridge started immediately with the three sub-directories properly displayed in the "content" panel.
    5. The bridge "tools/cache/Build and Export Cache was selected to 'Build Cache For Folder "9999-today" and All Enclosed Folders".  The "Export Cache To Folders" was unchecked (since there are already .BridgeCache files in each directory and they are the basis for seeding the master cache).  The cache was constructed with the following results in the 1024 directory:
    2011-02-27  21:04    <DIR>          20110219BED18138
    2011-02-27  21:03    <DIR>          20110224EB4DAE46
    2011-02-27  21:02    <DIR>          barasmal0B44C410
    2011-02-27  20:57    <DIR>          empty1E10B2FB
    6.  Clicking on each directory resulted in immediately visible thumbs with no rebuild.
    7. Each directory was open by an external process with a using ShellExecute() that has the bridge programme and image file reference, for example
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS5\Bridge.exe \\P2\Volume_1\ImageArchive\9999-today\barasmall\tf603683.cr2
Two such directories were so opened.  Those directoies has duplicated master cache entries.
    8. The computer was shut down and restarted.  Bridge was restarted alone (not by another process).  The third directory was open and immediately the cache was rebuilt and a duplicate entry resulted.
    9. The final content of the 1024 directory in all accessed directorys being duplicated:
Volume in drive D is extra
    Volume Serial Number is 6CEE-8402
    Directory of D:\Bridge5Cache\1024
    2011-02-27  21:23    <DIR>          .
    2011-02-27  21:23    <DIR>          ..
    2011-02-27  21:04    <DIR>          20110219BED18138
    2011-02-27  21:11    <DIR>          20110219FB819EBF
    2011-02-27  21:23    <DIR>          20110224AE1DB1C1
    2011-02-27  21:03    <DIR>          20110224EB4DAE46
    2011-02-27  21:02    <DIR>          barasmal0B44C410
    2011-02-27  21:09    <DIR>          barasmal78DD828C
    2011-02-27  20:57    <DIR>          empty1E10B2FB
                   0 File(s)              0 bytes
                   9 Dir(s)  313,629,155,328 bytes free
This seems rather strange - even though Bridgie created a set of .BridgeCache directories "within the last hour", simply moving the image directories to a new location for archival purposes (and building the master cache) causes Bridge to reconstruct the master caches a second time.  It does not even have the courtesy of removing the now-obsolete thumbs/previews although it does seem to update the modified time of the .BridgeCache files in the image directoies.
When the "Compact Cache" option is used, only two of the three duplicated directories were removed - a third remained with all images duplicated.
IMHO, this is defeats a significant reason for creating the .BridgeCache files in the image folders.  There is a resource overhead of creating the .BridgeCache files in the first place.  Then, when those files are needed, the image previews and thumbs are copied from the .Bridgecache to the master and  effectively ignored when Bridge 5 completely rebuilds the cache anyway.  I now have a master cache that took weeks of 24 hr per day processing to construct and it is now corrupted with duplicate and useless data - inpinging upon the 500,000 file "limit" for the Bridge master cache.  It also is causing a major time waste while waiting for the rebuild when I need to browse many directories for a number of books I will be publishing over the next year.
    Thank you

  • Bridge Video Play Bug?

When I select a video clip it starts to play properly in the preveiw window.
If I mouse click ahead of the slider (to see further into clip) the screen freezes, but the slider continues to move forward and the audio plays.
One has to click pause, then play again for the video image to play.  It starts where the slider is.
Tried this with several videos.  THey all freeze frame when you mouse click ahead of the slider, but the slider continues to move.
Tired with .avi and wmv video.
Does not do this with CS5 on same video, but then CS5 was 32 bit.  Did not install 32 bit version.
    Win7 64 bit

Does the same thing with .mov video files.
If I click forward of the cursor the frame freezes and slider moves all the way to the end without unfreezing.

    Hi!

    PREAMBLE:
I was trying to figure out (like many others on the net) the real difference between "standbydelay" and "autopoweroff delay" and I made some test that showed something that could be a SSD-Killer bug for many mac owners. (please note: I still don't fully understand why you need the 14400 delay if the standby one comes firsts and does same thing). (note 2: Mr. pmset man page editor, is very "funny" to read  "For your sake and mine, please don't use anything other 0, 3, or 25." in an official man page but you are not explaining the relevance of bits 3 and 4 with hybernate mode 25 and the use of them combined).
    THE PROBLEM:
Because of "Safe Sleep" even when RAM is still refreshed when mac enters Stanby ( from Sleep mode also called Stop in the GUI - more mess ) the contents of the ram are written to disk in /var/vm/sleepimage. So when a power faiure happens ( low batt, batt is removed, etc.) nothing is lost. In theory if you don't lose your power source you will always resume from RAM.
Problem starts if you enable Power Nap / Darke wake. As you might have noticed when the mac wakes up every hour, every software was running is resumed ( not only apple specific tasks ). So you might find some trace in your syslog of programs not finding the net, for example.
During this period of time the file system will be written by softwares and they internal state will be modified, so every hour the sleepimage file HAS TO be updated and rewritten not to create a dicrepancy between filesystem and memory after wake up from disk.
by issuing this command, before closing my lid, I had the confirmation about that:
    Barfly-i7:~ syd$ while true; do sleep 120; stat /var/vm/sleepimage; date; done > AppleSleepIsMess.log
    that is the output:
    Barfly-i7:~ syd$ cat fuckSleepMess.log

So it confirms that EVERY HOUR, after every wake up,  the content of your ram is written to disk!!! I will try also with AC connected later today.
NOTE3: the stat output is: date of creation, modification, accesstime (no atime mount for me), attributes modification but the output format IS NOT written in the stat command manual making the man page useless. (we have another man ed here!)
Thanks to the hilarious writer of the pmset manpage we know that Hybernate mode 3 is using bits 0 and 1 so without bits 2 and 3 set there should not be any page out for memory footprint before hynernating. My MBPr shoud write 16GB not 1.0 !
    Any comment, please?

    Hi,
We are aware of this problem where the setting for "Battery Health Mode" does not work in the following case:
    1.  the setting is changed while the system is undocked
    2.  then, the system is docked.
The dock battery will not know that the setting for "Battery Health Mode" has been changed.
The work-around is to toggle the setting for "Battery Health Mode" while the system is docked, as you noted.

  • Adobe FP and MySpace vids : a bug story ?

    Hi, there,
First of all, please forgive me if my english is not brilliant, or if explanations are not clear. If you don't understand, just ask, I'll do my best. Thks.
Since a month, more or less, I cannot see anymore MySpace videos. I don't know why, and have been asking to the help team (but maybe... there's "no" help team in MS... ...) so many times without any answer. Asked and looked for, many places. Here is my last chance ! ^^
    Here are the.. "symptoms" :
° I cannot read MS videos. (only these, I can see all other, as youtube, etc). There is a centered logo, turning as a wheel, and nothing starts :
    or, recently :
° when I right -click on the video space, a little window for FP parameters appears, but it is frozen, I cannot change anything :
..impossible to clik on other little icons, nor close.
° I'm on a MAC (Macbook Core2Duo, Leo 10.5.7, using usually Firefox 3.5.2, no viruses detected, all apps & plugins uptaded, regularly cleaned, anti-spyware, enough available space (32 Go), etc...).
° This bug appears also if I use Safari (4.0.2), or Opera (10.00). This is why I think it might be a problem with my configuration, not with the browser itself.
° I have checked in my Internet plugins, thinking there could be an incompatibility ; here are they :
(in "Disabled", there is "NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave" ; why there, I don't know).
° I have checked in the system preferences / security : there is no blocking in the firewall for MySpace (cookies also accepted, etc). Checked also authorizations... Well, I sought nearly everywhere, but... I'm not informatician. v_v
Please, help me, if you think you can. I'll give all further informations you should need. Thank you. Have a good day..
    Chris

    Hello Tafu and BWolfe,
In the meantime I did some other things. But nothing worked realy.
-I destalled completley from the adobe flashplayer and adobe shockwave player.
-Reinstalled Flash 10 but not the shockwave player, don't know if or whenever I will need that. Checked, but nothing helped.
-I saw in the adobe flashplayer 10 that I needed at least 2.33 Mhz Pentium 4 for that.
Somewhere else in the Adobe specs. 0.45 Mhz was demanded....  No need to follow that trail.
-I changed the codex to K-Lite complete edition. Nothing changed but left it that way.
-I changed my IE8 security settings for mediaplaying, a tip from a Myspace user. Did not help but I left it that way.
-I installed Chrome, the Google browser and got a message at playing time that Java was not running and flash was not loaded.
I was sure both were loaded and active. Chrome offered me an option to display the java script whitch showed 2 errors for
direct adressing url's. I learned from the script statements that the flashplayer was installed and ready. It was waiting
for content or the stream, confirmed by what I saw on my screen on Myspace.
At this moment I started thinking of my hardware and drivers. Because I had a YouTube full screen display problem 2 years ago.
-I looked for the Intel Graphics Express 965 Chipset driver and downloaded latest version.
Windows updates my system, but not this time.
Than I logged in for myspace and YES! There were the video's.
I logged in for an other site with suspected display problems, surrounding text suggested video's there, but not even a player showed.
Nothing had changed there yet... I unloaded the browsers and started IE8 again and the players showed there and video's started!
The graphics driver for my system I downloaded from:
    http://http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17407&ProdId=2800&la ng=eng
Thanks for your questions and suggestions you helped me to get courage to digg in this for an other time.

  • What are the options if one iPad was stolen last week and Apple created a bug which the burglar can turn off "Find My Phone"?

Last week, my gf was stolen and lost her iPad. I thought that everything was lost because "Find My Phone" didn't manage to track the iPad location so the police could do something.
Today, I ended up reading this article (http://9to5mac.com/2014/04/03/ios-7-bug-allows-anyone-to-disable-find-my-iphone- and-bypass-activation-lock-without-a-password/) which tells me that the iOS 7.1 presents a bug where someone can deactivate the "Find My Phone" function without the password.
What are the options here so I can rehave the stolen iPad, which Apple helped the burglar to keep it or even sell it?
    Appreciate your cooperation

Apple didn't "help the burgler" do anything. Did she have a passcode on the device? If so, the thief would not have been able to access any of the functions needed to disable Find My Phone. Also, if the device doesn't show up in iCloud's Find My Phone, it may be that it is simply turned off, or not connected to a network.

  • Intel IMac System Crash and Loss of Info bug on OSX 10.4.11....

I believe there is a bug (or perhaps is just my ignorance about unix OSs').
It has happened to me twice now since I got my IMac last year.
The thing is that I love the way my IMac Looks and I always try to customize the looks and to trick a little bit the performance by using Parallels, Garage Band, Photoshop, and running them perfectly with my 2Ghz Intel core duo. 1.5Gb RAM, and 512Mb only allocated for Parallels desktops memory.
I Usually change the Icons, folders Names and Backgrounds... you know, all the tricks you can do with these things... BUT... (The 1st time this happened to me, was about a year ago, one month after I changed from PC when I first configured my IMac. I had to reinstall Mac OSX, and I lost all the Info.)
I renamed the home folder from a finder window: pablozuluaga-giraldo > to > ZuLu...
and Boom... It Crashes, You reboot the computer and it does not remeber anything...
Folder views, Icons, Nothing... Even the mouse and Dock configurations changed drastically.
Maybe its my ignorance, like I said, and you cannot change the name of the home folder in finder because the disk suddenly gets lost and does not find nor remembers your information...
Is my Information Lost? I would not think so because the volume values have not changed, and I have not erased anything...
Therefore, I believe they are "displaced" from where they Should be....
Could anybody help me find them please?
I've managed to see the hidden files in OSX, but this is gonna take way more unix than that.
There is Invaluable information imperative for University projects in there....
    Please...!

Hello & Welcome to Apple Discussions...
