Bridge aborts when I try to open Preferences

As soon as I click on Edit / Preferences (or hit CTRL-K) Bridge aborts and I get the Windows error box stating, "Adobe Bridge has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and asking if I want to send a report to Microsoft. So far everything else in Bridge seems to work ok.
I'm running the Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9 under Windows XP SP3 on a PC.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6Ghz CPU, 2Gb RAM and ample hard disk space (the smallest free space on any local drive is 27.3Gb.)
I tried using CTRL-ALT-SHIFT when bringing up Bridge and deleting thumbnails. That didn't help. I then repeated the process and reset my preferences (groan!) and reset to the default workspace. That seems to have solved the problem though I now have my work cut out for me to restore all my personal preferences to the way I had them.
Hope that helps someone.

I've had the same problem. Originally I installed CS3 in Jan 2008, and sometime afterwards, couldn't access Br>Edit>Preferences without Bridge crashing. Re-installed CS3 to a new hard drive and all ok for some months. After a particularly hectic day of image sorting, the old Bride Crashes When I Try to Open Preferences problem came back.
I have refrained from trying the Ctrl+Alt+Shift while opening Br. I did find that going to my XP Pro's Control Panel, and setting up a new user in User Accounts, then opening Br from the new user account and all was well with my personal, original settings..... until I played around with it long enough experimenting looking for where preferences files might be hidden and lost the Preferences access again. No help from tech support except the unintentional idea to create a new user account. I suspect that un-install and re-install is the answer, but that's a Saturday project. I'm tempted to just leave it as is and use an administrator type user account to make the infrequent changes to Preferences. I have found several parts of preferences hidden in Application Data>Adobe, but some pages of preferences I can't find at all.
Learning more about Bridge under the hood than I ever wanted to know.

Any ideas how can I fix this. I already tried recreating my preferences file (com.apple.iPhoto.plist) but that didn't work.
    Thanks.

    Hi, Andres.
I already tried recreating my preferences file (com.apple.iPhoto.plist)...
If you mean you trashed it and let a new one be created, that's the first thing I would have suggested. The next is repairing permissions, and the next after that is reinstalling iPhoto, after dragging the current iPhoto Library out of your user account's Pictures folder. Should it come to that, the new copy of iPhoto will create a new iPhoto Library folder in your Pictures folder. If things seem to work OK after a reinstallation of iPhoto, you can trash the new, empty iP LIbrary folder and replace it with your old one, in the same location. Then test again.

Just tried to download new audiobooks to my iPod Touch 3, and noted new iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried to Reset Sync History per Support Article, but it didn't work. My purchased audiobooks are also gone from my iTunes Library.  Any fix, or is my best bet to uninstall new iTunes and reload earlier version??

When I try to open an image by double clicking on it in Bridge, I get a message telling me to log in to Creative Cloud.  I am running CS6, and the default should be to open files in Photoshop 6 or in Adobe Raw (if it's a Raw file).  I don't want to log into CC since I am not a subscriber, and this means that I have to work around, and go  back to Bridge, and tell it to open the file in Adobe RAW.  However, this does not work for older psd files which for some reason cannot be opened in RAW.  How do I return to the process of simply allowing RAW files to open automatically in Adobe RAW, and simply right clicking on the image in Bridge to bring up the option of opening it in Photoshop?

Could you see whether Firefox will start in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    Here's how:
With Firefox closed, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Does that work?

    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • When I try to open "date/time preferences" or "system preferences" they are unresponsive.

My date/time is incorrect and when I try to open it, it is unresponsive.  Also, when I try to open "system preferences" from the apple drop down menu, it is also unresponsive.  How can I fix that?

You might want to try deleting your
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
file in your hidden User/Library folder
Use the Finder Go> Go to menu and paste this to expose the hidden folder
    ~/Library/Preferences
find the file, there will be two of them and Trash the one you can move, reboot and reset your preferences.
You can also use #12 and #13 OnyX routine to find any corrupt .plist files (holds your preferences) and use the same search and delete, reboot and rest preferences steps.

I have Photoshop CS3 which I have used successfully for a number of years.  I now shoot pics with a Nikon DSLR D7100. When I try to open NEF files the following flag appears: "Could not complete your request because PS does not recognize this file".  What do I need to do to open my NEF files??  Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, CP
FYI, the file is a photographic panorama based on several .CR2 photos taken in July, 2012 and processed in CS5's camera RAW/Photoshop.  Beyond the metadata, here are no fonts or text in the file.
    1.  I changed Maximize ...File Capability from "Never" to "Always" and the flattened file saved and loaded OK, though I can't figure why given Adobe's description of this option. "If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file...".  The file saved in this manner is ~8% larger and is not my preference as a routine since I've TB's of photo files.  By the way, out of thousands of .psd/.psb files, the one being discussed is the first to give me the error.
    2.  I've tried saving/reloading the file on another computer with Win XP Sp3/CS5...again with Maximize Capability OFF.  Same problem.  Turn ON Maximize Capability and it works.  As with the Win 8 machine, Bridge could neither create a thumbnail or read Metadata.
    3.  I've purged the Bridge Cache, made sure there were no old PS page files, reset PS preferences, and disabled my 2 plugins with no change in the problem.  Windows and Adobe progs are all updated.  Saving to a different HDD has no effect.
The problem occurs on 2 computers (Win XP/Win 8), two versioins of Photoshop (CS5/CS6), and "Maximize" On/Off togles the problem.  My guess it is a bug in PSD processing routines.
If I can't find a fix, will keep with Maximize ON and deal with the larger files that result...the cost of insurance, I suppose.
    Thanks again

  • Previews of files are wrong when I try to open them

My Mac (Grey/Blue Power PC G4) is 10.3.9 using Photoshop CS version 8. The problem is when I try to open files from a card reader. When I try to go to File Open then select on a preview icon, the preview image is totally different from the actual file. It seems like the preview icons were taken from past files. For example, If I took a picture of chair, the preview might be a shoe, but it will open up in photoshop as a chair. I've tried the card reader on two other macs, thinking it might be the card reader itself, but the preview images were fine on the other two computers. I've created a seperate user account on this Mac thinking it might be the preferences. It showed up correctly on this new user account. I threw away the old preferences on the user account that I am having problems with and restarted. Tried it again and the previews are still wrong. I have also reinstalled Photoshop on this Mac but I still received the same problem.

I don't think that one is the cause of the problem.
I am pretty sure that the trouble must be coming from your User's Library so have another look in there. Check each entry fully in Column view including:
    User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge/cache.
Or you could just abandon your old user account; or pull a copy of the whole User/Library to your Desktop; trash the contents of the original and reboot.
Then put the contents of the copied folder back into your new Library folder a few items at the time as you find that you need them.

  • Hi when i open my application folder, all the application is shown in trash folder. when i click the application it says this app is in trash first move it out. and when i try to open through finder go it says this file doesn't exist. can some1 plz help?

hi when i open my application folder, all the application is shown in trash folder. when i click the application it says this app is in trash first move it out. and when i try to open through finder> go it says this file doesn't exist. can some1 plz help? how can i put all my application through application folder?

Something really odd is going on. In your first screen shot, I noticed that the Applications folder does not have the proper icon displayed in the side bar. Also, in the title bar it lists it as Applications 08-59-29-909.
Not sure where it's picking up that odd name, unless it's because it's still truly within the Trash folder.
Try this. In the Finder > Preferences > General > turn on "Always open folders in a new window". (I have a feeling you have the default setting with this off).
Now, in Finder > Go > move down and open the Applications Folder from there. Now open the folder where you see all your applications that you show in your screen shot, select all, and move them to this true appliactions folder.
This is what you should properly seeing (but with different apps listed):
See how the Applications folder has the icon of the letter A shaped with a pencil, ruler & pen.
