Bridge applies rating after modifying metadata

Working in Bridge CS3, adding or modifying metadata with File > File Info, after I click okay on the metadata template the thumbnail shows a Label color that wasn't there before. If the file did already have a Label, the color is changed. How can I stop the Lable from being applied when I don't want one?

Thanks, Omke. I just reset Bridge preferences (for the second time since this started happening), but a label is still applied as soon as the changed metadata (Description, Keywords, Copyright Status) shows in the Bridge panel.
What's also strange is that at first the label was yellow, but after I changed the name of the yellow label, what gets automatically applied is a white label. I don't remember, but there's a good chance that this behavior started when I applied the yellow label to a file immediately before or after changing the metadata (and perhaps Bridge wasn't done processing whichever of those actions came first?).
MacBookPro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, OS-X 10.4.11, Bridge 2.1.1.9, Photoshop CS3 10.0.1. I also have InDesign CS3 running at the same time.
I have a similar problem several on my PC (Intel Pentium 4, WinXP Pro SP3, Bridge 2.1.1.9, PSCS3), except that instead of a label, a 2-star rating is applied to the images. I asked about this several months ago on the Bridge Windows forum but nobody was able to solve the problem. I also tried trashing the Bridge prefs on this system, with no effect.

Bridge applies rating after entering metadata

If I enter metadata (description, keywords, title, etc.) to files using Bridge (v2.1.1.9 with PSCS3 on WinXP Pro), a 2 star rating is automatically applied to the photo. I'm entering the metadata by going to File > File Info and either typing in the data, selecting from drop downs for previously entered data, or pasting from another application. This did not happen in previous versions of Bridge that I've used. Is this a bug or do I need to toggle some setting (I don't see anything obvious in Preferences).

The files are Nikon D2X NEF raw files and TIFs processed from same with ACR.
It happens whether I am modifying existing metadata or adding metadata to a new NEF file.
If the files already have a rating, it is superceded by the 2-star rating after adding/modifying metadata.
This is with Bridge v2.1.1.9, Camera Raw v 4.3.1 and Photoshop v 10.0.1 on an Intel P4 PC running Windows XP Pro.
I don't remember when this started happening but it is within the past few months. I'm wondering if it is something in the most recent Bridge update.

Metadata in Bridge CS3 lost after editing NEF file in Capture NX2

Entered keywords and metadata in Bridge CS3, edited NEF file in Capture NX2 and then all metadata in Bridge got lost even if I did not edit any metadata in Capture.
Original Bridge metadata are still saved in XMP file but Bridge does not show them nor can search or sort photos by them.
Is it a Bridge bug or is it connected with any settings?

First I renamed photos in Bridge - sidecar XMP files were created with the new filename already, added some keywords and metadata in Bridge. Edited photo in Capture but not changed the name again - the result was the Bridge does not show edited metadata and keywords anymore even all those info are still saved in sidecar XMP file. Capture apparently does not change XPM in any way.
It looks like all the problems are connected with renaming files in Bridge before editing them in Capture as if Bridge cannot read XMP after Capture added its own info in NEF file.

High processor load after changing Metadata Rating on several photos

Hi,
I have marked about 100 Photos (Nikon RAW) which are in a selection, these have all 5 star rating, then I select 4 star rating for all selected.
After this I get high processor load for about 2 to 3 minutes.
What's goning on, does Aperture need soo many resources for just changing the rating in the Metadata in the Database?

Question about the Before/After/Test metadata tags

i think that i have read all of the appropriate sections on the wiki but i am a little unclear on how/when i need to add extra info to the Before/After/Test metadata tags.
thus far, i have not done any unit tests that require a component to be added to the display list. i was reading the section on how to do that and i see that all of the above mentioned tags have extra info:
[Before( async, ui )], [After( async, ui )] and [Test( async, ui )]
what do those do and when/why do i need to use them?

Okay, so the async modified is used to indicate that the asynchronous statement will be used.
There is a bit of overhead adding async to tests, so, we don't actually instantiate the code that handles Async unless the async attribute is in the Before, After or Test. If you don't place the async in these tags [Test(async)] and attempt to use the async code. Async.whatever... you will get an error.
Regarding the ui, attribute, the same concept was intended to apply for ui elements... in other words we wouldn't build the necessary infrastructure.. that is an optimization and right now is not in play. so you will not see different behavior with or without the ui.
If I copy your code directly from below and paste it in my environment it passes.

Problem with Bridge CS4 reading/editing XMP metadata added in Bridge CS6

Please excuse me if this is a dumb/obvious question. I did try searching the forums for similar problems and didn't find anything that seemed to speak to my issue.
I'm having a problem where Bridge CS4 won't read/edit xmp metadata (specifically, keywords and descriptions in the IPTC panel) that I have entered using CS6. it will read some files, not others. The files are all .mp4s. Of these files, I can read/edit IPTC panel metadata for some of them in Bridge CS4; I can add metadata for all of them in CS6. I see no particular pattern in these files to explain what is and isn't read/editable in CS4.
My question is whether this is a compatibility issue between different versions of CS (in this instance, CS4 and CS6). i know it's a tired refrain to blame software when it could easily be user error, in which case I'd be frankly delighted to know what i'm doing wrong. Please bear with me as I give a few more details.
I'm using macs. I've tried this on multiple systems - for instance, on a mac pro 3 which for some reason has both CS4 and CS6 installed, i can add and edit keywords using CS6, but not when using CS4. Again, in CS4, some .mp4 files read/edit, others do not.
Bridge CS4 blames the files and tells me that the selected file cannot store xmp metadata, and that the properties cannot be modified. To be specific, in the metadata panel it says "this property cannot be modified"; in the keyword panel, it says, "This file (zzz.mp4) cannot store xmp metadata. No changes will occur." This seems odd, because I'm able to add xmp metadata for the same files in CS6 on the same computer, and other computers. I know this problem would disappear if all our computers were using CS6 (or CC), but unfortunately that's not a possibility at the moment. Some of them only have CS4.
Computer details (not an exhaustive list, but two instances): mac pro 3.1 running snow leopard, 16GB memory; macbook pro 4.1 running snow leopard, 4GB memory; adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
Things I have tried:
Permissions - the files are set to read/write for everyone. Given that I can add/edit metadata in CS6, it doesn't seem to be a permission issue.
Purging the cache - other users seem to have had problems adding metadata in Bridge CS4 where purging the cache for affected files solved the problem. Didn't work in this instance.
Upgrading all affected computers to CS6/CC is beyond my control. I need to figure out why CS4 won't let me read/add/edit xmp metadata, if only for the sake of understanding the broader implications for interoperability.
Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.

adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
Without having experience with mp4 files and metadata my observation is that you certainly have not updated Bridge CS6 ( should be 5.0.2.4) and I believe also not the latest version of CS4, can't imaging this also stayed at .0.0 so first try to update both.
And if CS4 can read the data of some files it should be capable of reading them all. Be sure to have the files completely cached first, can take a while.
Other things to try in CS4 is refresh preferences (hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs).
And also check for hidden cache files using menu view/show hidden files. Sometimes those cache files can be troublesome between versions.
If purge cache did not work and reset prefs also failed consider to also delete Bridge plist file and Bridge cache file manual (from user library)

Bridge CS6 rating info

Hi there, using Bridge CS6 (OS X 10.8.4).
I have a large number of .cr2 files and, in order to have a smaller file size to preview, I batch processed them all to .jpg files, while keeping the original .cr2 files on an ext. disk.
The filenames of the .jpegs are the same as the .cr2s.
I previewed the .jpegs and made some ratings using Bridge. Can anyone tell me how I can transfer/copy this ratings info from the .jpegs over to their original .cr2 files, or do I have to duplicate the info by manually rating each of the cr2s?

You can't do so in Bridge easily, maybe if you create a custom script or ask for it in the dedicated Bridge Scripting Forum maybe they have a solution for you.
But you can use your external disk itself also with Bridge, just point Bridge to this disk (you must have read and write permissions for this disk to add rating and other metadata)
And the previews are not that big a file, unless you have a very large monitor and have set the option to generate monitor sized preview you can get relatively larger files in your cache folder but you have to use thousands before this gets a problem, and you can always purge the cache to make extra space.

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.

I have written code in u2018ZV_USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENTu2019. The following code is updating incorrectly on the screen for all line items with the last value of xvbap-awert, when I am saving the contract after modifying it like changing PO date :-
loop at xvbfa where posnv ne 0 and rfwrt ne 0.
    move xvbfa-rfwrt to xvbap-awert.
    update vbap set netwr = xvbap-awert " RV45A-AWERT
              where vbeln = xvbap-vbeln
                and posnr = xvbap-posnr.
    commit work.
Endloop.
If the above code is commented, all line items u2018Released valueu2019 field is initialized.
The values of xvbap-awert for all line items are modifying correctly in internal table xvbap. But in the initial screen of Contract field (VA42) u2018Release valueu2019 is displaying last value of xvbap-awert. This screen field is a structure field RV45A-awert.
Please help at earliest.

I assume you missed something when you edit the config file.

As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.

Portal runtime error after modifying masthead par file

Hi experts,
i tried to upload com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par in the portal (productive system) after modifying tooltip text of u201CHelpu201D link. i used Archive uploader.
After upload, status messages are correct.
But now in the masthead area, i have red message :
"Portal runtime error"
"An exception occurred while processing your request"
I cannot also access the Browse Deploymentu2026
So now i cannot log off from the portal (except by restart computer)
In development system where I used the same procedure, everything is OK.

Please ensure that the changes are correct by to upload the orignial par.
The other way of modifying the par is as below,
*Upload the PAR into NWDS and add the jars htmlb.jar, com.sap.portal.htmlb_api.jar and servlet.jar through java build path of your par project and add the jar com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead_core.jar (you can get this by extracting your par and navigate to the folder PORTAL-INF -> lib) in PORTAL-INF -> lib folder of your project.
Make changes
Build project
Export into portal

After several time installed CS6 and a clean Windows 8.1 bridge still pause after selecting a picture or right click with button mouse.

My bridge pause all the time. I have to wait 30 seconds after selecting a picture or click the right button of the mouse. I have installed a new windows 8.1, and a fresh CD6. But still these problems in Bridge. No problems in Photoshop. What to do

What is the problem:
When I choose a picture in Bridge I have to wait 20 till 30 seconds (sometimes more).
When I choose with right click of the mouse. I have to wait the same time.
When I choose the menu. Also
After opening the picture(s) in Camera RAW. There are no problems
In Photoshop there are also no problems. Everything works all right.
Only Bridge have these problems. But I can’t work with it.

I am not able to enter the data into the staging table .
it is also not throwing any error ,only giving warnings.
so as a next step i just took the intermediate result generation and try to run it
but it is giving me an error in that

The error ORA-12838 occurs if you try to issue SELECT/DML immediately after completing parallel DML, within one transaction - it's not permitted.
Start another transaction - issue Commit or Rollback first.

The issue is that you are mapping "Data Value" to amount in the Target Application import format:

V490 is not loging using hyper terminal after modifying hosts file

I am new user of Solaris 10. My Director has given me task to configure Sun fire V490 server. Today I was configuring the Network of the server using vi editor , I had change the ip from /etc/inet/hosts file after modifying the file I had restarted the system but it was not loging into root user. it gives an error "unable to login" , I searched the problem and find out that I missd the netmask file to modify but now I am unable to loging through hyper terminal . I am configuring the server using hyper terminal , is there other way to configure the server , because there is no vga card for the monitor display. How can I modify my server files. Please help me in this regard . I shall remain thankful to you.
