Bridge as a Image Tracking Solution?

I work for a Directory Publishing company and we are looking for a program that will help us track the use of images, photos, artwork, etc. used in ads.
We are basically wanting to be able to look at a image file we have saved in our library of files and know wether or not it is currently being use in one of the various artwork pieces we produce.
Is this something that Bridge can do, and has anyone used Bridge for this same purpose?
If not, do any of you have suggestion of a software that does what I am looking for?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Not quit sure what your needs are but Bridge is (yet) not the best Digital Asset Management (DAM) to use. You could try to create a set of keywords or combinations of labels and ratings but it will need a lot of discipline to keep the use and not used files up to date. On the other hand it is possible to keep the history up to date with adding metadata like keywords or description. Success is all depending on how many files you have to handle and how many people will be involved to fill in the details.
Although Bridge CS4 is reasonably stable I still would not use it for DAM purpose. Ik keep it for selecting, rating, adding metadata, move to other folders and a lot more very useful functions that are between the image ingestion and the final image. For this purpose I really love Bridge a lot, but only for this use.
Maybe you should also look for not very expensive DAM software like Expression Media or Extensis Portfolio (both as trial download available and around 200 dollar). If you have to deal with several 100.000 files you should ask Canto Cumulus for a customized version of their DAM, but that will need some more savings to spend....

  • Can I use Bridge to export image data into a .txt file?

    I have a folder of images and I would like to export the File Name, Resolution, Dimensions and Color Mode for each file into one text file. Can I use Bridge to export image data into a .txt file?

    Hello
    You may try the following AppleScript script. It will ask you to choose a root folder where to start searching for *.map files and then create a CSV file named "out.csv" on desktop which you may import to Excel.
    set f to (choose folder with prompt "Choose the root folder to start searching")'s POSIX path
    if f ends with "/" then set f to f's text 1 thru -2
    do shell script "/usr/bin/perl -CSDA -w <<'EOF' - " & f's quoted form & " > ~/Desktop/out.csv
    use strict;
    use open IN => ':crlf';
    chdir $ARGV[0] or die qq($!);
    local $/ = qq(\\0);
    my @ff = map {chomp; $_} qx(find . -type f -iname '*.map' -print0);
    local $/ = qq(\\n);
    #     CSV spec
    #     - record separator is CRLF
    #     - field separator is comma
    #     - every field is quoted
    #     - text encoding is UTF-8
    local $\\ = qq(\\015\\012);    # CRLF
    local $, = qq(,);            # COMMA
    # print column header row
    my @dd = ('column 1', 'column 2', 'column 3', 'column 4', 'column 5', 'column 6');
    print map { s/\"/\"\"/og; qq(\").$_.qq(\"); } @dd;
    # print data row per each file
    while (@ff) {
        my $f = shift @ff;    # file path
        if ( ! open(IN, '<', $f) ) {
            warn qq(Failed to open $f: $!);
            next;
        $f =~ s%^.*/%%og;    # file name
        @dd = ('', $f, '', '', '', '');
        while (<IN>) {
            chomp;
            $dd[0] = \"$2/$1/$3\" if m%Link Time\\s+=\\s+([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{4})%o;

  • Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?

    Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?
    This drives me bonkers.  Everytime I look for an image I've been working on, I go to Bridge and I'm always presented with the images sorted by rating instead of by date.
    Then I click on the microscopic sized, extremely tiny arrow that allows one to choose 'sort by date modified' and I resort them to find the file I need.  So that's always 3 extra clicks to find the image.
    WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
    Thanks for any help.
    I know I could just keep the recent files rated the highest, but still, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it work the way I'd like it to work?
    jn
    p.s.  Note to Adobe: Please make the selection button for sorting images arrow larger than a fraction of the size of the period at the end of this sentence.  Thanks.

    WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
    By default it does stay at the latest selected sort order so this could mean it is due to your install.
    First of all try to reset the preferences for Bridge, hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences. This sets it all to default. First try if the problem is solved then set prefs again to your own custom wishes.
    Also check and repair permissions for the OSX itself (Apple has disk utility in the utility folder for this job, and there are other 3th party applications)
    And be sure to have the latest update for Bridge. (Bridge CS5 should be 4.0.5.11)
    In addition to the method Tai Lao pointed you already to there is a third option, use right click mouse button in content window and the pop up menu has also the sort option at the bottom of the row

  • Using Bridge to Import Images from Camera to Harddrive. Question inside...

    I have Bridge automatically download images when my camera is connected.
    I was wondering if it was possible to have Bridge ONLY download RAW (nef) and JPEG files. because i also shoot video with one of my cameras, but it downloads my AVI files as well.
    thanks for your help

    Don't know about AVI but if you select the advanced dialog in Photodownloader you can put checkmarks on the files you want to be downloaded or not. You can also set the option create subfolders to a set of names or dates.
    Beside that, it is common knowledge that the use of a separate card reader for downloading images to the computer is preferred above the connection from camera to computer :-)

  • Can Bridge sort my images into folders based on an Exif date?

    All my Adobe products are pre-CS/CS2 and I don't yet have access to Adobe Bridge. My trial copy has also timed out. However, I would like to know if Bridge has the capability to take a folder of images (Canon Raw) and move them to new folders based on the original exposure date as stored in the Exif metadata (ideally creating the required target folders automatically). I'm thinking in terms of one folder per year, probably with subfolders for each month.
    I'm simply trying to avoid having all my images in a single humongous folder with Bridge re-creating (or at least re-displaying) thousands of thumbnails every time I just want to look at a few images. Sorting them into folders by date just seems a simple solution to that problem. However, I'd be very happy to hear about alternative image filing ideas.
    Once I have used Bridge to create extended metadata for image categories, etc, I'm also assuming that Bridge will let me search for images that match defined criteria no matter how many folders those images are stored in.

    I don't know of any functionality to do that in Bridge now; however, it certainly can be done via scripting.
    Perhaps one of our forum contributors might want to take on a "picture sorter" script...

  • CS3 - Bridge Smart Object image to CS3 & Lab Color

    I open an (NEF) image in Bridge, do some work, and open the smart object in CS3. When I go to Lab Color I get: “Changing modes can affect the appearance of smart objects. Rasterize smart object before mode change?” I don’t want this, correct?
    After I choose “Don’t Rasterize” this dialog window appears: “Merge layers before mode change?” I choose no.
    Within Channels (Lab Color) I go to delete “A” & “B” because I just want the Alpha Channel. However, I get “Flatten Layer?” and when I choose “No” I can’t delete “A” & “B.”
    Solution?
    ~ Much Thanks ~

    I should say I am trying to learn this software and stumbling through Mr. Kelby's 7 Point System book.
    I found my error.  I was highllighting the layers not clicking the eye icons off and on.
    Thanks for all who look.

  • Problem with Adobe BRIDGE getting Photoshop/Image Processor menu

    When I open my drop-down or fly-out menu under TOOLS in Bridge (CS3 version), the entire portion of the menu which is supposed to appear next underneath the Cache line option is missing (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Start Meeting..., Photoshop services).
    What gives?
    I'm trying to get to Image Processor under the Photoshop menu option (which is supposed to appear in the Tools drop-down menu).
    Please tell me what's wrong. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks, but there IS no Photoshop subheading in my Tools menu.
    That exactly describes the problem I'm having!

  • Bridge to PS image processor

    I've done a bit of searching but this is what I'm trying to do:
    I have 9 folders (unit 01, 02, etc.) with CS3 .eps files in them. I want to rasterize these files in PS CS3. I would like to use the tools>photoshop>image processor from Bridge to do so. I was successful at setting it up but the resolution was only 72 dpi. I need a 200 dpi Lambda profile TIFF. I was able to set up an action in PS to flatten and set the Lambda profile, which I could also run from the image processor dialog - but how do I adjust the dpi?
    Thanks

    >I mean View>Actual Pixels.
    Then, of course, you will see side-stepping pixels in your rasterized image that you would not see in a Vector image.
    What does it look like at actual "Print Size"?
    6050 x 3051 pixels would produce a print of 23.8" x 12" at 254 ppi. Is that big enough or should you be creating a larger image?
    Talk to your people to see if they can run from a PDF (which would retain the vectors and only rasterize them on output at the full DPI of the Durst Lambda) but it does seem that you may need to supply a Tiff and this Info. might be helpful from:
    http://www.chromatics.com/Serv-PhotoPrints.htm#PreparingFiles
    >
    Preparing files for Lambda-Direct self-service printing
    >Files for Lambda-Direct prints are imaged "as received" with no adjustments. We accept tiff and JPEG files.
    For predictable results, you must be using full color-management with Photoshop 6, 7 or CS and an accurately profiled monitor using one of our printer profiles for soft-proofing. These are basic tools required for preparing files for this service and we cannot be responsible for poor results if your system is not fully compliant. Sources of good information on monitor profiling and colorimeters are X-Rite , Colorvision and Dry Creek Photo.
    Files should be saved at 254 ppi at the final image size you need, saved in a standard color space, like Adobe1998 RGB, ColorMatch RGB, sRGB, ProPhoto RGB or CMYK (swop2) and tagged accordingly.
    Do not convert your files to our printer profiles and do not tag your files with our printer profiles. Use our printer profiles only for soft-proofing, then save your file in one of the standard color spaces.>
    So, basically:
    Prepare a Tiff file for full output-size at 254 ppi.
    Use the Lambda Profiles (which you can get here):
    http://www.chromatics.com/sidebar-Profiles.htm
    for Soft Proofing ONLY.
    But retain the Tiff in a recognized and tagged RGB space and let your Lambda operator apply the correct Profile in the "Print" dialog.

  • Bridge to Photoshop Image Processor won't run

    I'm using Photoshop CS3 Extended - V 10.0.1 and Bridge V 2.1.1.9
    I'm trying to run some photos through Image Processor via Bridge. After selecting all of the photos, selecting Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor, Photoshop opens, but the Image Processor doesn't run.
    I've tried processing other photos in other folders and it works fine. Then I tried processing the problematic folder on a different computer with no luck. There just seems to be an issue with this group of photos.
    I check the information on the photos and they're not locked or anything. I'm not sure what else to do. Any ideas?

    Try run the Image Processor directly from Photoshop menu File->Scripting. See if you can select the folder and run the processing.
    What is the special with that folder? such as size, permission, special name or special file?

  • Bridge Viewer/Client image rating prog.

    I think I may have mentioned something similar in part of another post regarding how useful distributed cache could be. But a big workflow problem has arisen, so I shall specifically request this 'feature'.
    At the moment I have over 50G of images to be sorted thru. They are all stills from a film I worked just worked on as well as the behind the scenes stuff. All shot in Canon RAW. The various producers and director want to look at images and select what they want further work on.
    I will name, label, keyword [and preselect images I think are best], but still give them everything to choose from. They will then sort out what they want me to process/composite b4 outputting into PSDs, JPEGs, TIFFs etc for various media distributions. They are several hundred miles away so sitting around a computer whilst 3 people argue over which images to select is impractical, nor something I need/have time to partake in.
    For the producers to view files they need a cut down Bridge that simply allows them to look at the various digital image file formats [with new types updated automatically] and rate/label/annotate images, in essence Acrobat Reader but for image folders. Bridge Browser maybe, Extensis I believe has a Browser to go with Portfolio, which seems to be like what I mean. Just had a brief try of Portfolio, yuk.
    There is no way they will buy Bridge as you can only do so as part of PS which they don't want or even have any use/need for. All they need to do is look at images and place a ranked tick or cross next to them, maybe add a note and send just the amended cache/info back. This could then be added to my own sorting and most definitely not replacing it - Photographer Sort, Producer Sort, Director sort. And maybe the sorts could be combined Venn diagram style to quickly see what we all agreed on.
    Many of the people I deal with do not have/need PS, in fact that's why they employ me, hence the need to have some simple, idiot proof way of them viewing images and labelling/annotating them. Being able to view keywords used with all folders to quickly search for say all Tom Cruise but not Jamie Foxx pics they can.
    The only other option is to JPEG everything into separate folders and send them down, they shortlist images and stick them in a folder and send them back. I then have to match them with original RAW files. A couple of tedious unnecessary days wasted file sorting.
    Any workflow suggestions gratefully received.

    You did not mention what version you are using?
    In CS3 use the filterpanel and in top of this panel select the small icon
    with up and down arrow, in this drop down menu choose sort by date created.
    This will give you the natural sort order with date including time in hours
    minute and seconds.
    In CS4 you can also use the filter panel and choose date created from the
    list or use the path bar and click on the sort by line to choose from date
    created.
    One condition is essential for a correct sort order, the time and date set
    on the different camer's should be correct and identical
    Excuse the cross-posting on two forums -- I didn't realize Bridge has a
    separate forum....
    I'd like to sort a large folder full of files by the time of image creation.
    Files were made of an event on several cameras and I'd like to synch them in
    order to create a slideshow that makes sense to the viewer/client.  Many
    thanks in advance for help.

  • Bridge default opens images in After Effects.

    I am working in Bridge CS 5 (4.0.5.11) on a Mac Pro OS X 10.6.8. I am trying to open files (jpg, psd, bmps) in Photoshop CS 5 and the default is set to PS but Bridge is opening the images in After Effects. Where or how do I reset the default for files to open in Photoshop and  not After Effects? When I right-click on the image the default is set to PS but still opening in AE.
    Thanks for the help.

    I forgot to do so and had to recreate from scratch.
    Downside from resetting prefs is indeed you loose some settings, I always recreate them from scratch and have done so often in the past that I almost can dream this. Plus side is in this way you will learn more about Bridge and its prefs and will become more used to it. Maybe even discovering things you never new of
    I rely heavily on the folder panel and have only 4 main folders in the favorites that I also don't use very often. The folder panel gives you so much more overview and options, you should give it a try.
    Anyway, glad it worked out for you :-0

  • Bridge displays incorrect image previews! (Bridge 2.1.1.9)

    Hello,
    I am running Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9 on Windows XP SP2 fully patched. I intermittently see a problem where when browsing directories containing Nikon Raw files (NEF) from the D300, Bridge displays the wrong preview image for the file I select. For example, if I click on an image icon in one directory, the preview displayed is for a file in a different directory.
    I've tried clearing the cache, etc, and nothing seems to change this.
    Is this a known bug and/or is there a workaround I can use?
    Thanks

    p.s. this is in addition to the fact that Bridge crashes every few minutes when I run it, so I find myself needing to restart it routinely during each working session.
