Bridge between airport card and ethernet port

My son wants to access the internet through the ethernet port to connect his xbox 360. My airport extreme base station is upstairs and my powermac g5 is in the basement and connects to the internet through the airport network (airport extreme card to base station). One of his friends says he can configure a bridge between his wireless card and his ethernet port on his windows computer and was trying to do it on my mac. Can a bridge be configured between the airport extreme card and the ethernet port on the g5 which will allow an ethernet device to connect to the internet? Any advice will greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Larry

I have used an external ethernet bridge in the past. What I am wondering is: How can the airport card be configured to create a bridge to the ethernet port on the computer, so the game console could be connected to the back of the g5 with an ethernet cable and then connected to the tv with a/v cables. Do I have to use some external device to provide an internet connection to the game console or is there some way to share the connection from the airport card to the ethernet port?

  • Airport card and ethernet show connection but I cannot connect to network

I have an iMac where I can connect to the internet within 10-15 seconds of turning on airport or plugging in cat-5 wire to use the ethernet connection. After this time frame I must turn airport off and then on to regain the connection. Or, if hard wired, I must remove the cat-5 and plug it back in. I have seen many posts similar to this on forums. However, all of the posts pertain to a wireless connection only. I have tried most all of the solutions people have offered including zapping my PRAM. Unfortunately, I have had no luck with any of them.
    Three things to note:
    1. I believe this problem occurred after a power loss at my home. No power surge - just lost power. I can't be certain on the timing but thought this should be mentioned.
    2. I have upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 to try to rectify the issue - didn't work.
    3. I have switched from comcast to AT&T - different router/different connection/different network preference - and nothing changed.
So, the problem is not with the connection itself as I am able to connect for a few seconds. It doesn't pertain to the OS as I have upgraded and still no fix.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You have not detailed the router being used..
Please tell us if you are using an apple router and which one.. exact model will help.
Is the modem also a router? And wireless?
Try clearing out all the old settings from the wireless.
Reboot and do a clean setup.. certainly if there is an apple router it should have a factory reset and a new clean setup.
For ethernet it doesn't work like wireless.. it is based usually on dhcp.. things can go wrong though.. test with a static ip set on the computer.
Sometimes just age catches up.. old computers and routers and cables.. you need to test with new routers, new cables and new computers.. to locate where a problem is actually occuring.

  • Difference between airport id and ethernet id?

I'm trying to assign static IP's to 3 Airport Extremes. Which is the MAC address? The Airport ID or the Ethernet ID?
    thanks.

If you are connecting to the Extremes using ethernet, you would use the Ethernet ID, which is also known as the wired MAC address.

  • Share Airport Connection to Ethernet port in BRIDGE mode?

I've been trying to do this for a while now, but I haven't been able.
I have the modem form my ISP hooked to a Airport Express configured in BRIDGE mode, thus creating a wireless network for my home with "live" IPs for all the computers (yes... I know the security risks...).
My G4 (across the room) gets Internet from it's Airport Card and I configured the Share Internet preference pane to "Share the Internet Connection from the Airport to the Ethernet Port", so I can create (...extend, really) a WIRED network from my G4's Ethernet Port.
The thing is that I want this wired network to have also "live" IPs, but the Airport Card always has the "Distribute IP Addresses" (or it's equivalent, from the Airport Admin Setup) activated, so it provides a 192.168.X.X network and I can't find a way to turn that off.
In other words, I want it to acts as a BRIDGE and not as DHCP Server.
    Anyone?
    TIA

I was trying to use IPNetShareX to configure it, but I didn't find a way. I'll keep looking...

  • Airport card vs ethernet vs 3rd party usb adapter.

Hello, I hope someone here can help. I have a G4 tower 8493 and purchased Airport Extreme so I can connect an iPad. After reading tons of support questions it looks like I have 3 options. Purchase an airport card and give up some speed, connect G4 directly to airport exteme with ethernet or purchase a 3rd party usb adapter.
First - are those options correct?
    Second - which is better/stable?
Third - if ehernet is chosen, what exactly would I buy and where would this cable go?
Thanks so much in advance, I really have no idea what I should do.

    Hello,
The Airport 802.11b card & the USB Wifi adapter limited by USB1.1 speeds will have about the same theoretical limit of speed, but I get far better range & speed using the USB adapters, & the USB adapters can do WPA2, which Airport cannot.

Another option is a PCI card, more expensive, but more speed...

Not sure if this cheaper one works on G4s, I'd ask them...

You have a built-in Ethernet port, but make sure it works before going that route.
I'd chose the USB Wifi myself.

  • Is there a real benefit between airport express and extreme if you do not have the platforms with ac norm?

Is there a real benefit between airport extreme vs express if your pc is not in the same ac norm?

Not a lot, unless you plan to connect to the AirPort using a wired Ethernet connection, or connect a hard drive to the AirPort.
The Ethernet ports on the AirPort Extreme are 10 times faster than the ports on an Express. You can connect a hard drive to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. You can't on the AirPort Express.
There are more wireless antennas in the "new" AirPort Extreme and they are located up at the top of the "tower". That might improve things a bit as well.

  • Airport Card and Pismo

    Hello!
Picked up a used Pismo in great shape. I have a spare working Airport card and installed it. It did not work. So I erased the drive that had 10.2.3 and installed 10.4 with all updates to 10.4.8. Still does not work. I took the PowerBook apart and examined the card dock pins, cable and mobo connection. Physically they all look fine.
I am pretty avid and mac hardware repair. I have a couple Pismo motherboards and stuff in storage. Before I go taking all this apart again and swapping stuff out, could I be doing something wrong here?
I see only two sources of potential fault. The motherboard or the card. Any experts hear of Pismos having Airport issues? (all other buses are fine, firewire, UBS, etc) Any report of Airport cards dying? (I dont have another spare to test)
    Thanks!

    marco,
Did you select AirPort in System Prefs > Network > Network Port Configurations?
If you have the Hardware Test CD that came with Pismos or have another Mac that can burn the AHT, download it here and see what it says about AirPort.

  • Airport card and memory

hi im looking into puttin an airport card in to my mac g4 the lamp desktop and was wondering if i need extra memory and what osx it would run on
    hope someone ca

    Hello Aldric, welcome to discussions.
It's quite suspicious that your Airport card and one of your memory modules have suddenly "disappeared" at the same time.
This could certainly indicate a hardware issue, but I won't speculate as to what caused it. Sure, a power surge could do this... have you had one recently?
I would try taking the memory module, and the airport card out of your system, and then re-install them.
If your situation does not improve, then you should probably take your machine to an authorized Apple service center.

but how i can i acquire image with IP camera and fpga ???
The Ethernet hardware interface in the cRIO is not directly connected to the FPGA backplane in a way that you could directly access it. Even if you could it would be a pretty bad idea to try to do. A fully operational TCP/IP network stack implementation in the FPGA would not leave much resources for anything else even on the biggest FPGAs available. That doesn't include support for the typical image compression algorithmes which are even more complicated to implement on FPGA. Even if you would go to highly optimized VHDL code directly it would be a pretty difficult thing to do!
In fact implemenintg the MAC and PHY of an ethernet interface on the FPGA is totally trivial in comparison. The IP level could also be implemented fairly easily in the FPGA but anything above that is going to give you bad headaches and still will be very limited in number of connections and packet sizes it can support.

  • Need technically the linkage between Shopping Card and PO (SRM).....

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I am using SAP SRM 7.0 and wanted to find out:
    1) Technically the linkage between Shopping Card and PO (SRM). (Basically looking for required table names and the fields)
    2) Technically the linkage between Shopping Card and Reservation (SRM) . (looking for required table names and the fields)
    Thanks....

    Hi Siobhan
thanks. but every customer wants to know what happened to his cart if the status is COMPLETED or not. Why SAP missed this small piece of functionality to show COMPLETED status via WEb transaction. I can see only this via REDISTRIBUTION WORKLOAD transcation status. right hand side green tick mark. this green mark totally mislead every body. mixuter of status shows green tick mark (COMPLETED + FOLLOW ON DOCUMENT CREATED etc) in redistribution mark.
    Appreciate your reply .
I tell you in detail .
for ex CART went to ERROR IN PROCESS but no where the requestor can see his cart and he got dismayed and admin can see his cart . ok. if i go see in redistribution menu it shows COMPLETED logo. it mislead whole business.

  • Broken airport card and hard drive on MacBook Pro and can't go to recovery with LAN.

    Hi.
My MacBook Pro 13" (early-2011)'s hard drive has broken, and I bought a Kingston 120GB SSDNow instead.
Earlier, the airport card and cable has been broken too.
Are there other ways I can use LAN to recover my mac? It wants me to use wifi, but the airport card is broken...
If so, why does it only want to use Wifi instead of LAN?
LAN is like the extra parachute just in case, or the extra octopus regulator in scuba diving.

Is your model on the list? Did you ever upgrade its firmware? If not, then all you can do is start by booting from your Snow Leopard DVD and installing Snow Leopard on your SSD. Be sure to first partition and format the SSD for use with OS X. Once you install Snow Leopard you can download and install the firmware update for future needs.

  • How can collect the data from laptop sound card and serial port at the same time?

I'm working on a project, I need to collect the data from laptop sound card, and also from serial port at the same time.

  • Macbook airport card and antenna

i have 2 macbook c2d,one has the 2 antenna airport card and the wifi is very slow, the other with 3 i presume is n version, but i had to swap the screens over, now the mabook i use has a 3 antenna card but only 2 antenna from the monitor, would i be better of using the 3 antenna version but ust plugging 2 in and which 2?

I can't help with tracking down the "T" shaped antenna that plugs into the back of the G5, or an equivalent, but I can tell you that the wire that connects to the Airport card in my G5 disappears around the back of the motherboard.
It may have a metal ring on the other end but I can't see it.
I'm assuming you didn't buy the G5 new, because you are missing of the "T" shaped antenna which is supplied with the computer, so I'm guessing whoever had the G5 before you pulled the airport card out before disconnecting the antenna cable and ripped it from its mounting.
My guess is the metal ring is used to attach it somehow.

  • Difference between Airport Extreme and Airport Express

What is the difference between Airport Extreme and Airport Express? My son is home from college and would like to use his Macbook for an online class. So I need a wireless router and I would also like to be able to play our iTunes over multiple speaker locations with my home stereo. Which one of these could accomplish this. Thanks in advance.

If you can use just one device to both set up a WiFi network and connect to your stereo you have to use an Airport Express. If you have to use separate devices, for instance because your internet connection device and your stereo are not in the same location, you have to use an Express to stream to and you can use either an Express or an Extreme to set up the WiFi.
By the way you have to use an Express for each stereo you would like to connect.
