Bridge by itself

I'm very new to Bridge, but is seem after reading the forums/FAQs/wishlists/etc that Adobe would have a real winner on it's hands if Bridge was a standalone product.
I can't figure out why it's not! Is there some techie thing holding it back? Or just greed to make people shell out $$$ to get CS3?

  • Bridge Launches itself

When I launch Photoshop, Bridge launches within a few seconds, unbidden. I cannot find any preference in either app that would cause this new behavior. Any suggestions?

I find the applications a tiny little bit better behaved when I launch Bridge FIRST, before Photoshop. In an early version, the cursor in ACR flickered if you had the preference to launch Bridge automatically after Photoshop.
I've been launching BRIDGE FIRST for a long time now.

  • Bridge not opening

I started having this problem on PS CS3 but have recently upgraded to CS4. When I open bridge by itself or through PS, nothing opens at all and I get the box saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close. What could be causing that? Also re-installed CS3 when I was using that, but did not fix error. Now that it's still happening in CS4, I see it's a problem with my computer.

This is an old thread, but I thought I would post a fix that worked for me. The reset procedure did not resolve the issue, and I believe the problem started after an Adobe Creative Suite up-date.
If anyone has a problem where downloading photos stops working, thought I would pass along the fix from Adobe that works.
The error code that appears is "c0000005: Adobe Photo Downloader has encountered a problem and needs to close." In several forums, and the first Tec response, is to start Bridge with the <Control Key> depressed, then reset preferences to default, and eliminate all thumbnails. This did not work.
The fix is to locate the photodownloader.exe file in the Bridge subdirectory, go to "Properties," click the "Compatibility" tab, click the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box, then select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)", then "Apply", and "OK".
I am running Windows 7 on a home made Intel 7 box. The photo download had been working fine. I believe it stopped functioning correctly after an update to Design Premium CS4.

  • Bridge (CS3) MySQL Database

    Hi there,
I am new to this list, and fairly new to Adobe Bridge in general, so please forgive my ignorance. I am attempting to index an entire drive of files for the end result of getting metadata in a database of sorts that I can manipulate with a web application. I have heard that there is an embedded version of MySQL in the Bridge application itself, and I was wondering where that data was, and how I could access it. Is it stored in common MySQL format, or in some proprietary cache-file, or am I coming at this whole thing from a completely wrong angle? Any help and pointers are greatly appreciated.
In the future, I am hoping to integrate Bridge into the process so that when any of my users add a photo, there would be a common database that would get updated so that my web app could access the new data immediately.
If anyone could recommend a different approach or solution, that is fine too. I am not totally stuck on Bridge at this point.
    Thanks!

    Bob,
Am I missing something? I cannot seem to get any of your scripts to show up in the scripts menu. (I placed them all in: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CS3/Adobe Bridge) I do have Bridge CS3 (this version came with Photoshop Elements, so could it be somewhat neutered?), and I get this following error message:

Thanks again for your help; it is much appreciated!

  • Can't open psd files from Bridge CS6

Had both CS4 and CS6 installed, CS4 Bridge added itself when I wanted just CS6 Bridge, so uninstalled CS4.  Now cannot open psd files from SC6 Bridge.  What do I do?.

What is Bridge doing when you try to open the PSD file?  Do you get a warning, does nothing happen?  Did you open the preferences in CS6 bridge and set the file opening preferences to make sure they are set to PS CS6?

  • Bridge CS3 "Open in Camera Raw" unavailable (grayed out)

I am using Bridge CS3 (2.0.0.975; and Photoshop CS3) under Vista Home Premium. I have two accounts on this system (one administrative "root," and my primary limited user account).
My problem: under my primary account (even if I switch it to administrative), unless I open raw files with ACR, I cannot access "Open in Camera Raw..." under the file menu (as it is grayed out and inaccessible while trying to open jpg files, etc.). However, using the administrative account I can access/use the command. I tried uninstalling CS3, switching my primary to administrative and reinstalling using my primary account, but it still appears grayed out and I still cannot open files using the abbrev "Ctrl+R." Note, I can open jpg files in ACR, but this must be the default for all jpg files not ones that I select to open.
Also, under preferences>Labels, I need to uncheck the "Require the Control Key to Apply Labels and Ratings" every time Bridge is restarted as it will not save from startup to startup. Any help is appreciated. --Greg

There are 3 places to check this option, 1 in Bridge preferences itself, 1 in the camera raw preferences via Bridge and the last one in the PS preferences from PSCS3 itself.
They all should have a checkmark. But there are some issues with this option. You might also want to refresh the preferences with restarting Bridge an holding down option key and after doing so again check and set the prefs to your wishes.

  • Bridge CS3 - "Open in Camera Raw..." no longer working

The "Open in Camera Raw..." feature for JPG is no longer available in Bridge CS3. It was just working last week but now it does not appear when I right click on an image, it's grayed out in the menu and Command-R is disabled. Anyone know what's up? Doesn't work from Photoshop CS3 either.

  • Windows 7 64bit Bridge CS3 problem.

I just purchased a new PC. I am running Windows 7 64 bit Pro. I have installed Adobe Photoshop CS3. One minor annoyance is that whenever I exit Photoshop it won't simply close. It hangs until it says "not responding" and then if I exit again at that time it does close.
The BIG problem though is that I can't even open Bridge CS3. I have no idea why or how. I need help on this asap. Without Bridge I'm in trouble.
    Thank you,
    Tom K.

Did you run CS3 as admin the first time you started it?
Did you update CS3 to 10.0.1?
    Hope this makes sense:
You have selected CS3 to run as admin but your not running it (closed): if you try to open bridge by itself with cs3 closed bridge won't open unless you run bridge as admin.
If CS3 is run as admin and you open bridge from CS3 it will open.
Ya, i know it is weird but CS4 did the same under windows 7 64 bit for me so I figured this may help you.

  • My Bridge update 5.2.0.4 has wrecked previews for all DNG files. They appear only sideways and small and I can't open Camera Raw in Bridge. Anyone else have the same problem?

    I updated Bridge yesterday. CS6 5.2.0.4. Mac OS 10.9.5
Now all previews (DNG files) in Bridge appear sideways and only small thumbnail size.
Also Camera Raw has been disabled.
I have tried purging cache for the folders as well as purging entire cache.
I have also spent over an hour on the phone to tech support which mainly involved being switched between departments and trying to understand anyone on the phone.
    Can anyone help?

Your Performance preferences screen capture reveals you have a single hard drive with little available space to accommodate both the Photoshop scratch file and the swap files of the OS.
It's obvious that Bridge finds itself at times with insufficient space to build its cache.
However, it's unclear why that should affect only DNG files and not other type of image files.  Puzzling, unless the DNG files are the only large image files you have.
Parts of the following may illustrate what happens when the scratch file is on your boot drive:
The rule of thumb I follow to figure out scratch space says to figure on 50 to 100 times the size of your largest file ever multiplied by the number of files you have open.  I have seen the scratch file exceed 800 GB once, an admittedly rare occurrence, but it often exceeds 200 GB when stitching large panoramas and the like.
As an example—and stressing that I'm aware that others have even more scratch space than I do—I keep two dedicated, physically separate hard drives as my primary and secondary Photoshop scratch disks and a lot of GB free on my boot drive for the OS.  I also have 16 GB of RAM installed.
Additionally, if you only have a single HD, i.e. your boot drive, you'd need it to be large enough to accommodate both the swap files of the OS as well as Photoshop's scratch.

  • Alternative of Bridge table in data Modelling.

    Hello Gurus,
while doing the data modeling, we found one place where we have Many to Many joins between One Fact and 3 Dim.
where in Dim., we mostly have only one attribute/ Dim, which relates Many to Many with Fact.
so as in obiee we have to build the bridge table to take care of the issue.
is there any alternative method of data modeling that can eliminate the Bridge table itself?
I was thinking to add the dim attribute in fact itself. though it's with diff grain it should work??

If you really have a many-to-many relationship from fact to dimension, which attribute value (which of the many) would you put on the fact?
What is the issue you are having with a bridge table?

  • Bridge File Open in camer raw, is grayed out. Camera raw works in PS.

  • Bridge CS5 preview / slideshow not working on 27" Apple Cinema Display

I'm using my 2009 (black key) MacBookPro and Mac OS X 10.6.7 running Snow Leopard.
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Adobe Bridge CS5 works beautifully on my MBP, my photography workflow depends on Bridge.
However, when I attach my 27" Apple Cinema Display and try to preview images by hitting the space bar I get a gray screen. Likewise, the slideshow renders only gray.
It's not the "black out other monitor". I've cleared the cache to re-render all the previews.
I've scoured these forums as well as the Apple ones, and the helpful folks currently at Photoshop World in Orlando advised me that, collectively, the kind people here know everything.   I know I can't be the only photographer who uses this configuration. I'd like to use the display for client previews/ordering.
I would so appreciate any tips you may have for me; thank you in advance for your time.
    Warmly,
    Darcy

Yes, thank you. I found that post - among others when researching before I asked. I tried all the suggestions in that one and in the others.
My issue isn't low quality rendering in the preview and slideshow - my issue is NO rendering at all in slideshow and preview. It's just blank. Gray.
I deleted the cache in my library and through the Bridge program itself to rebuild the previews. I tried the various options of "software rendering" on and off, and different configurations in the preferences and none seem to make the preview or slideshow work. I have all the updates from Adobe and from Mac.
I tried importing the photos I need to show my clients (who are coming to my studio this evening!) into Lightroom 3, and the LR slideshow works. But using LR and having to import photos into it is an extra step not in my workflow.
Ideally, I can make Bridge work instead of making yet another resource-consuming copy of these photos on this computer via the Lr library.
So - current state is unsolved.
Lightroom 3 slideshow and preview works, but isn't ideal since it involves importing the images into Lr. Since that works - would that mean my video card is acceptable?
Bridge can show thumbnails on the 27" display but no preview or slideshow.
Bridge preview and slideshow works perfectly on my 15" MacBook Pro.
I'm so disappointed since I bought the 27" Apple Cinema Display this week and was told it would work with my computer "out of the box" - I was sure to ask several times, "so there's nothing else I need to buy or do to make this work with my programs? Just plugin and go?" and several times I was assured, "Yes... plugin and go."
I sure would appreciate anyone who's made Adobe Bridge work with a 27" display. Thank you!

  • How do I reinstall Bridge CS4?

I was cleaning up my hard drive and deleted a large Bridge archive/temp file, among other things. In doing so I seem to have broken Bridge CS4, though Bridge CS3 still works.
Our work computers are running CS3 for the most part, though I upgraded just Flash to CS4, which is where Bridge CS4 came from. I've been looking for the Flash installer but can't find it. Is there a way to download and install just Bridge by itself?

Deleting a temp file should not have any effect on program.  In case you deleted something more that broke the system you need to unistall CS4 and reinstall.  The save bet is to use Adobe CleanSweep for CS4 before install.
Bridge is not a seperate program so can not be installed seperately.

  • Closing Bridge CC with Photoshop CC

Why doesn't Bridge CC close with Photoshop CC as Bridge closes with Photoshop CS6?  When I close Photoshop CC I now have to also close Bridge CC - just another steip but I'd like it to close automatically with Photoshop CC.  Thanks

To explain a bit more because I think you are confusing some things: PS CS6 uses Bridge CS6 and PSCC uses Bridge CC. Bridge is version specific and uses dedicated start up scripts per version.
In CS5 (I believe, can't check myself) there was an option bar with a bridge icon to start Bridge from PS. The command 'Browse in Bridge' in PS file menu has been there as long as I can remember. It either switches to the Bridge application itself or if it was not active already this starts Bridge also.
While you can have multiple versions of Bridge installed on your systems you can have only version active and open at the time. Yet you are able to have both PSCS6 and PSCC open and working as you can with other Adobe apps like LR (e.g. both LR4 and LR5 can open and active at the same time) yet Bridge allows you to have only one version open.
I don't know why this is (can't think of a valid reason other then 'as designed') but it is a fact. You can try your self, have Bridge CC open and try to start BridgeCS6, the focus switches to the already open Bridge CC
MiniBridge is a panel in PS designed for a shortcut to Bridge itself so you don't need to switch between applications to reach your content. However the panel only works when Bridge itself is also active. MInd you, CS6 connects with BridgeCS6 and so on.
It works more or less like the other panels, you can change its size and location (dock it to others or use it floating) like you can with panels like layers, history etc. You can also create your own workspace with or without the MB panel. Like other panels you can select it in the PS menu Window, only it is under the submenu 'extensions'.
Mini Bridge could be a great feature but they screwed it in CS5 and beyond, it is hard to use nowadays (only as a floating panel you can have multiple rows and columns for the thumbs to name an important flaw). If you want to use the combination of LR, Bridge and PS for your own reasons then I would suggest to start with LR and export those files to a particular folder.
Then open Bridge to point it to this folder and take a few moments to let Bridge cache its content. Meanwhile create a collection of those files (select them all, click on the new collection button in the collection panel and name it properly.
Then in PS open MB panel and choose collections and select your newly saved collection name. just my 2 cts btw

  • How to reinstall bridge CS2

My computer went down last week and I had to get a new hard drive. I made a mess trying to put everything back on the new hard drive. I had to reinstall Photoshop and ImageReady from the disk. As I am having trouble with Bridge I would like to reinstall that as well. I have thrown away the Bridge folder, however I do not see where on the CD I can reinstall Bridge? I have Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium and run Mac 10.4.

Unfortunately, you can't install Bridge by itself.
